Guess which card Obama pulled out of the deck today?

posted at 3:30 pm on September 5, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

With both Rasmussen and Gallup showing Barack Obama moving backwards even before the Republican Convention dropped its balloons on Andrea Mitchell, one can excuse the Democratic nominee for hearing footsteps.   How desperate has he gotten?  Looks like he’s playing the race card once again:

“I know that I’m not your typical presidential candidate,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told executives and employees of the Schott glass company Friday afternoon, “and I just want to be honest with you. I know that.”

“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington.,’ You know, ‘he’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about him,’” Obama continued. “And that’s what the Republicans, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’

Once again, Obama has resorted to a smear campaign against the McCain campaign.  They have never –never — even hinted that Obama has “Muslim connections”.  They have never made even a slight attempt to make his race an issue, despite this fourth repeat of this particular smear.  Neither has the RNC nor any mainstream Republicans.  In fact, the McCain campaign let go one staffer who only Twittered a link to a Jeremiah Wright video earlier this year.

If Obama wants to argue that some misdirected bloggers have made these kind of attacks, he might have a point.  But by that standard, the Democrats have attacked Bristol Palin, smeared Sarah Palin about the maternity of her youngest child, and questioned the mental capacity of John McCain.  If Obama wants to start making these kinds of accusations, then maybe he ought to get his own house in order first.

That’s not the only data point of desperation today, either:

Sen. Barack Obama ditched his normal languid cool today, punching back at Gov. Sarah Palin as he spoke with reporters in York, Pa, hotly defending his work as a community organizer. He said he assumes Palin “wants to be treated same way guys want to be treated, which means their records are under scrutinty. I’ve been through this for 19 months. She’s been through it, what four days?”

Obama’s hackles were clearly raised by Palin’s dismissal of his community organizing –a response to his earlier dismissal of her record as a small-town mayor. “Why would that kind of work be ridiculed?” Obama said. “Who are they fighting for?” The idea that community organizing is not relevant to the presidency, he said, just shows why Republicans “are out of touch and don’t get it.”

The Obama campaign was clearly on the defensive today, acknowledging how appealing Palin came across, and sending out surrogates hitting their talking points that Republicans have spent their time on attacks rather than substance.

Says the man who keeps calling John McCain the same as George Bush.  There’s a word for a man who can dish it out but can’t take it.  I’ll leave it to you to reach your own conclusions.

*crackes knuckles*

And here we go…

Ed, you know what’s funny? People have mocked his name (Osama Hussein Obama anyone?) and made patently false claims that he’s Muslim.

Barack Hussein Obama IS his name. Since when is calling someone by their name an insult?

As previously stated, yes- bloggers have insulted him by calling him Bambi, O’BlahBlah and numerous other creative, yet admittedly demeaning, things. But you cannot show even one instance of anyone official doing these things.

Next, the Muslim thing. Is he a Muslim now? No. He is a Black Liberation Theologist Christian. I would prefer that he were a Muslim, since most Muslims are decent people with an extremely high sense of moral and ethical values. Black Liberation Theologist Christians hate white people and preach about perceived repression and injustice, hatred and patently false conspiracy theories. Also, back to the blog vs. official or MSM wagon… we can compare idiot blogs all day…

So, by your logic, can’t state the truth about the tactics being used against him without playing the race card. Does that make people making fun of his name and claiming he’s Muslim racist? I’d honestly like to know.

Go read up on Black Liberation Theology. Skip over Rev. Wright. Fact: Obama chose that church because it showed him his “cultural and religious roots” and maintained a consistent 20 year association. I wouldn’t sign up for the KKK because there are nice people who participate and I enjoy poker night there. If you join the KKK, you are a racist. Period. He went to that church because he, by his own statements, felt that it helped him find his core beliefs and he could “no more disown them than disown the black community”. Calling him a racist is not slander, it is fact; just as calling a KKK member a racist is fact no mater how “clean” and “articulate” the KKK member many be.

And, besides, at least he’s not playing the gender card.

Oh no? Read here:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/05/us/politics/05dems.html?_r=2&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Now- shut up and sit down. Adults are talking here.

A little newsflash for Obama:

Running for President doesn’t count as qualification for office but it is a good test for whether you should be President or not.

You campaigned too long and all it took was a week for someone new to figure you out and expose you.

We can’t have that kind of weakness in office. Also now we know you made a big strategic blunder with the 19 month epic campaign ending in an epic fail. You shoulda had an exit strategy when a badass woman entered the battle.

Democrat Barack Obama called Republican rival John McCain’s acceptance speech the final piece of an out-of-touch convention that focused on its nominee’s biography instead of the struggles of the middle class.

Biographies are soooo yesterday – Obama, heh.

Here’s something that will never be reported because Sarah’cuda will say it on the stump:

“I know that I’m not your typical vice-presidential candidate,” said Governor Sarah Palin, “and I just want to be honest with you. I know that.”

“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The gal hasn’t been there that long in the Governor’s chair., You know, ‘she’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about her,’” Palin continued. “And that’s what the Democrats, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Sarah. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe she’s got small town evangelical connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with hunters and she’s a bad mom, she doesn’t take care of her kids.’

“Who are they fighting for?” The idea that community organizing is not relevant to the presidency, he said, just shows why Republicans “are out of touch and don’t get it.”

Most communities in the USA and around the world organize themselves. They do not need someone coming around telling them they are victims and teaching them how to manipulate the system.

I notice that the media is still going after Palin today. This is strange even with an “over the edge” liberal media. As far as BO is concerned, how many times can you play the same overused race card? It may have worked the first several times but it has limited shelf life. It looks like both the Obama people and the MSM are in total panic mode.

Evidently Barry didn’t have a prepared speech on a nearby teleprompter today. He strikes a rather discordant note about Governor Palin; wondering if she wanted ‘to be treated like one of the boys’. Hell, after what she and her family have been thru with the MSM (courtesy of DNC direction), being ‘treated like one of the guys’ would be a cake walk. Maybe the MSM can put together the same outstanding reporters and support staff that ‘vetted’ Barry.

Most communities in the USA and around the world organize themselves.

Yeah, like they set up town councils and elect mayors, who need to serve the community and deliver results if they want to get re-elected, like a certain Sarah Palin did, twice! Her zinger about a mayor being “like a community organizer except with real responsibilities” was a killer!

Steve Z on September 5, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Does anyone remember a Notre Dame-USC game from 1973 or so at the LA Collesium? Ara Parseghian was coaching ND, and ND went into halftime winning 24-6. USC’s Anthony Davis took the second half kickoff back for a TD, and the roof caved in and the floor collapsed on ND. USC won 59-24. Here, Palin just ran the second half kickoff back, and McCain just got them another score with his speech. Obama’s playing the race card suggests that he knows he’s lost all his mojo, and McCain-Palin are, not the media darlings, but the people’s darlings.

On top of that problem, I think, Obama’s going back to the race card because he’s in terrible shape and the 527s and AIP have not even begun to queue up the Reverend Wright, Ayers, and Rezko sound bites. Try selling Obama’s community organizing in Ohio, PA, Michigan, and elsewhere with Reverend Wright following around. I don’t know about the Muslim thing, but I do know about Wright, and that’s all I need to know.

On a key issue, a really effective ad would be to splice together Obama’s Friday, Saturday, and Monday foreign-policy responses to the Russian invasion of Georgia. He was so bad it was scary. And in the Monday response, he looked like a a awkward 4th grader reading a book report that he didn’t write. He was so unfamiliar with the content of the message that it was clear someone else wrote if for him and told him to read it and then get the hell out of there. I’m not sure that Midwesterners fully appreciate radical Islam, but I think that many of them (certainly the older ones) understand Russian tanks rolling into neighboring countries. McCain new exactly what he was doing, and we are crazy not to elect him for that show of strength alone.

Gee, maybe Obama is talking about this vile smear that McCain included in his speech last night:

“And, finally, a word to Senator Obama and his supporters. We’ll go at it — we’ll go at it over the next two months — you know that’s the nature of this business — and there are big differences between us. But you have my respect and my admiration. Despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us. We are fellow Americans, and that’s an association that means more to me than any other. We’re dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal and endowed by our creator with inalienable rights. No country — no country ever had a greater cause than that. And I wouldn’t be an American worthy of the name if I didn’t honor Senator Obama and his supporters for their achievement.”

FiveWays on September 5, 2008 at 5:17 PM

Has anyone noticed we have someone really strange running for Vice President? First, she has a really funny name…. Sarah Palin (Pal-in…Pay-lin)… that’s certainly not like any name of any other President. And, boy oh boy, she certainly doesn’t look like the guy on the dollar bill!

Are you a little confused? Biden is a proven plagiarist and is on camera flat out lying about his resume.

Did Obama not vet this guy?

I am amazed that I was so wrong about Sarah Palin.

I thought that Palin’s lack of experienced weakened McCain’s experience arguement.

But instead it spotlights Obama’s inexperience because he’s not even a heartbeat away–just an election.

Here is another issue that Palin takes away from Obama.

Sarah Palin doesn’t look like anyone on my paper money either! So, who is it that is trying to scare us about her?

Yep another hypocracy exposed. Thanks–Sarah–sweetie.

sven10077 on September 5, 2008 at 5:29 PM

And I wouldn’t be an American worthy of the name if I didn’t honor Senator Obama and his supporters for their achievement.”

sven10077 on September 5, 2008 at 5:42 PM

Let us see.

Barack the horse that took Monammad on his juorney

Hussin a very famous and popular muslim name

Obama another common muslim name

II named after his father who practiced pologamy and claimed to be muslim to all but supposedly his son. His step father was also muslim and he himself in his book said he would side with the muslims if America broke down.

Shria law calls for the death penalty for any muslim (determined by birth) that changes to christian (but is Wrights church christian not by real christians that know what it teaches Wright was a declared Muslim he has now substituted Jesus for Mohammad and the bible for the Koran but his Black Power teachings are basically the same). They have carried this out in several countries. So he is Muslim whether he likes it or not. Albeit in disguise.

His wife is either proud of her country for the first time or prouder. Real Americans are always proud of the greatest country on earth. Barack feels he has to constantly remind everyone of Americas “sins” while his wife is honest calling America a downright mean country.

These statements about him are made because they are true not as an attack per se.

J_Gocht on September 5, 2008 at 5:45 PM

Wrong move again “Duh 1″. Let me help you out….

1. Pull white hanky from coat pocket.
2. Vigorously wave hanky back and forth in plain sight.
3. Keep your hands visible at all times.
4. Once you surrendered all you have to provide is your name, rank, social security number, and date of birth.

And then this will all come to a peaceful and blissful end. You can go back to not holding hearings on your committees, go back to your church, go back to writing books about yourself, and as a bonus you can go back to hanging out with Ayers and no one outside of Illinois will care.
