I was going to save it for morning but it’s simply too sweet. Listen for the cheers at the beginning as the crowd recognizes the track. Exit question: When do the Wilson sisters file the copyright suit? Tomorrow or next week?

Update: Correct answer: Tonight!

Ah, heck with them. It was great. The crowd loved it and so did I.

AAS…..all about Sarah

sven10077 on September 5, 2008 at 12:11 AM

Forty States.

Yeah, I said it.

Elizabetty on September 5, 2008 at 12:12 AM

They won’t. They get their royalties paid. And if the McCain/Palin ticket wins…I can guarantee they’re getting the call to the Inaugural Ball.

Sakaki on September 5, 2008 at 12:12 AM

First DUDE on Greta. Sweet.

SouthernGent on September 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM

Note Sarah even brings a smile to eeyore’s face

William Amos on September 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM

Yeah, that was awesome. Reminded me of Obama being kind enough to play Bill off with ‘Addicted to Love’.

BadgerHawk on September 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM

Can you please link First dude video tomorrow? I gotta get up in 6 hours. Much appreciated.

I did worry about the copyright issues! I hope they sorted that out in advance. It’s a great song to use if they got permission.

Forty States.

Yeah, I said it.

Elizabetty on September 5, 2008 at 12:12 AM

I am thinking like you are…I don’t think it will be that close, and am taking all my friends’ money that care to bet with me. McCain understands strategy and timing.

Best. Democrat. Convention. Moment. Evah. The Obama campaign never misses an opportunity for revenge. I guess Hillary should be grateful there isn’t a song about cankles.

Exit question: When do the Wilson sisters file the copyright suit? Tomorrow or next week?

Let me just say that I kind of predicted this (in my head)…

I threw this up in another thread earlier:
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/04/cbs-poll-mccain-now-tied-with-obama-after-trailing-by-eight-points-three-days-ago/comment-page-2/#comment-1383314

As I did so, I debated making a comment about “why don’t they trot that song out…” and before I added that text, I thought “well, we’ve seen the ridiculous lawsuits, so they’ll never do it”.

RightWinged on September 5, 2008 at 12:21 AM

Wow!! I guess I was asleep a long time, cuz I missed all of this!

nickj116 on September 5, 2008 at 12:22 AM

And, Shaner5000, I can rock this out on Guitar Hero too!

Heart moved to Vancouver in the early/mid 70’s because the male members of the band wanted to avoid being drafted and sent to Viet Nam.

It’s a little ironic that Mr. War Hero McCain would allow one of that draft dodging band’s songs to be used in a campaign that gets lots of mileage out of McCain’s Viet Nam experience.

John McCain was nowhere near the decision to play that song.

Besides, the grown ups are too busy thinking about important things rather than stupid rock band trivia.

Elizabetty on September 5, 2008 at 12:26 AM

It already says in the “Barracuda” article in Wiki that the GOP played the song during the convention today.

jgapinoy on September 5, 2008 at 12:26 AM

…and the song was written out of frustration at the rumors that Ann & Nancy were lesbian partners.

jgapinoy on September 5, 2008 at 12:28 AM

Elizabetty – John Mellencamp already kicked McCain’s ass for trying to use one of his songs and – well, you don’t get it. That’s okay.

Hey maybe they could play that horribly crass and offensive 9/11 video and throw Barracuda on top of it to save time.

What, Hotair folks don’t believe artists should have control over their own material? How unAmerican.

Yes – the lawyers are working as we speak. It’s easy to figure out the band would not be in McCain’s corner. So bye bye to using Barracuda.

Dave Rywall on September 5, 2008 at 12:35 AM

Seattle lawyer right now.

Hey! I live in Seattle! But you’re right, plenty of kooky, far-left lawyers out here.

nickj116 on September 5, 2008 at 12:36 AM

It’s sad to see how too many artists are so eager to sue Republicans for playing their songs in the campaign trail.

Maybe Reps should shove royalty checks up their rear-ends and tell them to shut the heck up!

newton on September 5, 2008 at 12:36 AM

Anybody can play the song as long as you’ve paid your dues to ASCAP and BMI. For a one day event with that many people it would probably cost around $10,000 for the licenses. To have live music once a week (actually the option is up to twice a week) it costs me $3,500 for my bar/restaurant.

Capitalist Infidel on September 5, 2008 at 12:36 AM

How nice of them to extend an olive branch to the MSM and play their theme song:

“And if the real thing don’t do the trick, you better make up something quick….”

Here’s something to ponder here. The Wilson sisters sing Barracuda. Sarah Palin IS Barracuda.

The sisters can sue for money. Sarah can kick their a**es into the Arctic Ocean, to be part of the next Deadliest Catch season.

newton on September 5, 2008 at 12:38 AM

Yay for war songs by peaceniks! The Wilson sisters do “The Battle of Evermore” http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-708480147581134260.

I got what I wanted. BarraCUda.

Paul-Cincy on September 5, 2008 at 12:38 AM

Eh, they’re not gonna sue. They’ll send a Cease/Desist letter, and the campaign will deal with that by following along. BUT, if the campaign DID send their check to ASCAP/BMI (which I believe they did), then they cannot sue for damages.

I should know this. I used to be a Disc Jockey.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic “Barracuda” as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart’s rep, who says “The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission.”

freedomplow on September 5, 2008 at 12:41 AM

Nancy is married to Cameron Crowe who was hanging out with Sean Penn and J.J. Abrams at the Denver convention. On the other hand, I don’t know J.J. Abrams’s politics.

Ann recently released a version of “The Immigrant Song.”

I am withholding all my enthusiam though until she’s been around a couple of weeks at least!

If you do not fall in love with Sarah and whatshisname you are going to be engaged to Barack Obama’s socialism for the next 4 or 8 years.

Elizabetty on September 5, 2008 at 12:48 AM

I’m getting tired of the “artistic class.” If they don’t want their songs to be played, then why do they play them in the first place?

I for one want nothing to do with them. If I want theme songs for my political party, I’d rather compose them myself. Or buy the universal rights to a song, no matter how much it costs, and keep the royalties to myself.

The best example I can think of right now is “My City is Gone.” Who owns now the universal rights to it, and for how much did he buy them?

Heh, heh, heh, heh…

Used to be bands, especially bands that nobody have thought about in years, appreciated having their music played to such a large audience.

Songs played at liberal events rarely get such letters.

The Dems don’t have this problem because most artists are liberals who don’t care about the Dems actually asking first. It advances their political cause. The Republicans try to do the same exact thing and get a C&D order.

Heart has no problem letting a multinational electronics company make millions of dollars while using their licensed music, with the games and guitar-joysticks themselves being manufactored in 3rd world countries by workers getting paid pennies on the dollar. They do, however, have SERIOUS issues with a working mother of 5 using that same music.

amerpundit on September 5, 2008 at 12:55 AM

Every time I see Sarah Palin I think of Goody Two-Shoes. I’ve been trying to find a way to get this vibe going, but I can’t figure out how to avoid the obvious charges of shallowness and sexism. And it probably wouldn’t play well with the very social conservatives that McCain is trying to attract with the Palin pick. Still, the song has a lot of energy and Adam Ant does have a kind of Maverick-y quality, though in a different direction from McCain.

Could this sell as a “new wave is coming to Washington” theme? Eh, probably not. *sigh*

JackOfClubs on September 5, 2008 at 12:55 AM

petunia on September 5, 2008 at 12:45 AM

The enthusiasm that you see from other people is their ‘less than a week’ enthusiasm.

It’s simply a fact that we have been wanting to root for a conservative person that shows a lot of promise … for quite some time. While we feel quite good that Bush is in the whitehouse, not Al Gore or John Kerry, it’s not excitable. McCain is a good man, and has some things we agree with, some we don’t, but we feel safe with the prospect of him as president. And not so with Obama. Sarah Palin is a great potential. We like what we see so far. We want to see more. Most everything we have seen and feel as we listen makes us so very optimistic about this seemingly genuine person.

When people say Reagan, or Thatcher, it’s in a way to suggest that this person, might possibly go there. Not that she is there yet.

Please don’t confuse everyone’s ‘less than a week’ enthusiasm of Palin with anything beyond what it is at this point.
