Another Palin smear bites the dust

Nutcase bloggers will have to find another smear against Sarah Palin … again.  Did you hear that Todd Palin’s former business partner tried to get his divorce records sealed?  Conspiracy theorists immediately began speculating on line that Sarah Palin — that vixen! — must have had an affair and broken up the marriage.  Why else would the partner suddenly act to seal his records?

As the Smoking Gun discovered, Scott Richter wanted them sealed — to protect himself from conspiracy theorists (h/t: William Amos):

So when the blogosphere discovered today (via an online court docket) that Scott Richter, a Palin associate, personally filed a sealing motion in Alaska Superior Court, well, conclusions were jumped to. Was Sarah Palin named as the other woman in a messy divorce action? Well, since Richter’s September 3 motion, a copy of which you’ll find below, was denied yesterday, his divorce filings remain open to the public. And a TSG review of the 98-page file shows that the Palins are only mentioned in Richter’s sealing request.

According to the filing, Richter wanted the documents deemed confidential in a bid to cloak details about his home, workplace, and phone numbers because “reporters and news agencies” were using that information to contact him. Richter, a 39-year-old contractor, noted that he is “friends and land owners in a remote cabin” with the Palins and, as a result, journalists were intruding on the “cabin life and private life” of him and his 11-year-old son.

Isn’t that an extra dollop of irony?  Mr. Richter wants to protect his son from lunatics.  What happens?  The lunatics use that as “evidence” that Palin had an affair with Richter and descend on him to get the dirt.

The desperation of Obama supporters keeps becoming ever more clear.  We’ve now had them smear Palin and her daughter as sluts, notably Conan O’Brien and his crude “crease” reference on his show last night.  Palin’s mothering quality has also been slandered, and her decision to have a successful career derided by those who would normally sneer at stay-at-home moms.

Keep it up — please.  Keep informing the public that women have to stay on the ideological reservation or they have to stay in the kitchen, and that they’re not really free to have their own minds.  Keep punishing those who express their own opinions and defy the media with despicable slurs and innuendo and by all means keep attacking their children.  None of that will have any effect on Palin’s credibility — but it will strip her critics of theirs.

Update: Charles Martin at Explorations has the list of debunked slurs and innuendo, and it’s getting pretty lengthy.  Coming up next: Sarah Palin is an extraterrestrial looking to infiltrate human society!  Where’s the Weekly World News when you need it?

Update II: Just spitballing here, but what stereotypes of naughty women have the media and the lunatics missed?  So far, they’ve made her out to be a slut, a b***h, a beauty-queen airhead, and an unfit mother.  She’s obviously not frigid, so that smear won’t work.  How many other demeaning gender-based slurs can they throw her way?

There is no stopping the career of Sarah Heath Palin now. This train will not derail. Mark my words.
I think she could even get away with a “macaca” utterance.
Good post Ed. As usual.

Grasping at straws…rabidly grasping at straws…and doing the work for the GOP along the way. The McCain/Palin campaign can save an awful lot of money by letting the Left spend a lot of money making the Left, and the Dem ticket, look amateurish, petty, desperate.

“In July 2007, Palin fired her legislative liaison, John Bitney, after learning he had been sexually involved with Deborah Richter, the wife of a good friend of Todd Palin. Richter, also from Wasilla, where the governor had been mayor, was appointed as director of the Permanent Fund Dividend Division after Palin’s election. She was not sanctioned and remains in her job as manager of the agency that sends the annual checks from oil revenue to Alaska residents each fall.”

Psst, one of the space aliens at Area 51 got loose and started a rampage. They had to call in Governor Palin to shoot it. Why won’t Sarah come clean on what happened in Area 51.

Many years ago, shortly after discovering Rush Limbaugh, I found myself screaming at the radio, “when will journalist ask themselves if the work they are doing is bringing disgrace to themselves personally, their employers, and their professions.”

Many years later, I’m still waiting for a journalist to ask that question.

I mean, I visit leftie blogs from time to time, and there are plenty of folks there who will say, “We should not be doing this because it’s going to come back to bite us,” but that’s a very different thing. But why are there none who are dismayed at the sheer, desperate immorality of it?

There is a difference between that director position and the Governor’s own legislative liaison. If I understand the references, the liaison would represent the Governor in a slightly more personal way. Plus, those directors might not be removable by executive order. Either way, I can understand — even without details — an argument justifying the different treatment.

So when the jackasses at NBC (and CNN) tell us this stuff is coming from irresponsible blogs, they need to be asked if that means Andrew Sullivan — a frequent pundit on The Chris Matthews Show. Actually, it is a definite phenomenon. Conservatives tend to argue over ideas, liberals argue over how to acquire power.

Go to conservative forums and they will argue voraciously over what government and society should and should not do. Go to their liberal equivalents, and they take their positions from above and then argue voraciously over how to implement those positions.

Consider Clarence Thomas and Bill Clinton. Liberals argued that the former should be bared from the Supreme Court because he flirted with a coworker. Then the same liberals turned around and argued a few years later that sexually harassing your coworker and having a sexual relationship with an underling were at worst a minor foible for the President of the United States.

Certainly, if liberals took feminist principles seriously they would have opposed Clinton, just as they opposed Thomas…but they didn’t did they? Why? Because it would have cost them political power, at least in the short term.

The drive-by media still hasn’t accused her of being from Mars. That should be coming up very soon.

scrubjay on September 5, 2008 at 9:30 PM

Doesn’t matter – the drive-by media already thinks she has Michael Valentine Smith’s powers.

She is but an egg but she sure can grok.

platypus on September 5, 2008 at 9:59 PM

He can’t open his mouth without lying (as everyone would know if the MSM could stir itself to do a little fact-checking). Why should we buy his denials of complicity here?

MrScribbler on September 5, 2008 at 9:20 PM

I don’t buy anything he says for a second. But, whether he means it or not, he did say the right thing about these attacks. I won’t trash someone for something they didn’t say (unlike Obama and Biden on the campaign trail this entire week of “what you did not hear at the RNC” nonsense).

As far as the “crease” comment goes, I agree that it does not bear repeating and will only serve to make blood shoot out of your eyes. But, I am not 100% on this. Imus was canned for a FAR less controversial and innocuous comment. Not that I support Imus, but it does highlight the liberal media double standard even further. Say “uppity” about anyone and every outlet in America will brand you a racist. Talk about a 17 yr. old in in manner we’ve seen and you are an “aggressive reporter” or “late night comedian”.

Our side of the fence, notably, does NOT engage in actively combating these types of slurs as much as we should.

Damiano on September 5, 2008 at 10:00 PM

You know, this is surely naive of me, but… why are there no Democrats who look at this and say, “Something’s wrong when we’re willing to make stuff up to attack the Republicans. Why is our party so immoral?”

I mean, I visit leftie blogs from time to time, and there are plenty of folks there who will say, “We should not be doing this because it’s going to come back to bite us,” but that’s a very different thing. But why are there none who are dismayed at the sheer, desperate immorality of it?

I know there are liberals who believe in personal morals. Where are they?

philwynk on September 5, 2008 at 9:18 PM

Not niave, you are just applying common sense and your own moral compass, and what you see confuses you. It’s just the way it is, and that’s not being anything but sincere.

Why did Ayers bomb the things he did? Why did Ayers wife think the Manson Family was cool? Why did Obama feel the need to seek the support of such people and why is Obama so popular after doing so?

The simple answer is “I don’t know”. It boggles my mind too.

Latest unhinged BDS joke I’ve heard going around is that McCain wanted Palin for impeachment insurance when it comes out that he is implicated in Bush’s war crimes. No, I am not making this up. Some of them have already concdeded that we are going to steal the election – Diebold and all that, getting Kwame Kilpatrick removed to suppress turnout in Detroit, you name it, it’s all a conspiracy
to keep Obama from assuming the throne and ending the Bushitler war machine.

How many other demeaning gender-based slurs can they throw her way?

She’s a known public masticator and she’s rumored to be a thespian.

Well, Comcast has been running a headline that she has been to 6 colleges in 6 years.

I’m sure dozens of members of the media and team Obama(wait, that’s the same team) have descended on all of those institutions, looking for any old roomates, classmates, professors, etc.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing a loser or two looking to cash in by announcing some sort of college antics.

“yeah you’re right, I have a cousin who is having an affair with a woman who is dating a man who works for Diebold at their HQ at Canton and this election you won’t believe it but they have established a protocol that is going to combine Barry and Bob’o'Barr’s vote totals for McCain …..”

or

“the man is holding Kwame down and just can’t stand his power…like he would be whack enough to try to assault corrections persons twice MAN!”

yeah fun with moonbats…

These people are unhinged. You have ti undertsnsad their worldview. They seriously believe that (a)Bush stole the election in 2000 and again in 2004, (b)his minions are still around working on stealing this election, (c)they are all working for some diabolical conspiracy involving Halliburton and God knows who else to divert America’s resources and most of the federal budget to the war machine that makes them billionaires. Obama is a “threat” to their war/money machine so they are using “all means necessary” to stop him; therefore they are entitled to use “all means becessary” to stop the Rethuglicans.

The less batshit crazy ones still think that Republicans have used all knids of “dog-whistle” rhetoric and sleazy campaign tactics (i.e. “Swiftboating”) to hoodwink voters and outright steal votes in some areas, so they feel entitled to use any sleazy campaign tactics against Repubicans. They especially enjoy spreading lies about conservatives’ private lives that they think will turn off social-conservative voters. They think this is as much fun as giving people wedgies was when they were in elementary school. Just “high jinks” to them.
