America’s got a fee-vah and the only prescription is more Palin merchandise

Alternative headline: Lucrative new natural resource discovered in Alaska.

Call it “Palin-mania.”

Companies are cashing in on a new craze sweeping the country sparked by the sudden fame of John McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, reports CBS News correspondent John Blackstone.

The new cottage industry involves anything carrying her name…

From t-shirts to thong underwear, from the flattering to the not-so-flattering, sales of just about everything related to the McCain-Palin ticket have been flying off shelves, at the just-concluded GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn., on the Internet, and other settings, Blackstone says…

Pain’s leap to fame is also benefiting such Web sites as CafePress.com, which now has an inventory of 137,000 Palin-related items.

5,950 designs to choose from, and naturally Karol’s still not satisfied. Why Maverick’s campaign and the RNC aren’t doing more to make a buck off this, I’ll never know: The McCain store has only standard Mc/P items and the RNC is stuck with generic party crap. I get that they don’t want number two to upstage the nominee, but they can fig-leaf that by offering separate items for both McCain and Palin; the latter will outsell the former two or three to one, but only the RNC will know and after all a buck’s a buck. Exit question: Should Hot Air hop on this gravy train? I’ve been known to do a photoshop or two in my time so designing them is no great shakes. It’s all a question of what you guys are looking for — and of course copyright limitations, which is why designs with images in them, as opposed to just slogans, are dicey. Treacher’s off on the right foot. If you have ideas, chime in below.

Update: I stand corrected. Looks like there is some official Palin merchandise after all.

Some of the PUMAS have found a way to make some money – maybe if anyone will pay up for failed leadership. Excellent rant, btw:

I say we SELL THEM ON EBAY.

If you have an EBay account (and I know zillions of Puma PAC members do — we are after all working class and many of us are women, and that means we know EBay), will you please offer for sale today:

The DONC! Yes, it’s a failed leadership and ineffective bunch of incoherent political hacks, but hey — the price is right! Absolutely FREE! In fact we’ll even ship them to you for free. Here’s what you get when you take the DONC off our hands:

Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Donna Brazile, Joe Biden, AND Barack Obama! The DO-NOTHING Congress is also included at no extra charge. Heck, we’ll even throw in Markos Moulitsas and the Daily KOS as a special incentive, but watch out! his bite is vicious and has been known to transmit disease.

Take our “leaders” home today — Please!

OT-

Listening to a local radio talk show here in Seattle, which is fairly down the middle. The DJ asked for impressions of the McCain speech. Several LIFE LONG democrats called in saying they were very, very moved by McCain’s speech, and will probably vote for him.

Considering this is Liberal Seattle, this could be big news re: the swing states!

I think McCain should have Sarah Palin do a commercial about the new catering system to be implemented upon their election.

Food would now be not only served by the kitchen staff, but also, they would hunt, kill, clean, dress, prepare and serve the meals. Of course, this would drive the vegans and the PETA folks bonkers.

Maxx on September 5, 2008 at 8:05 PM

Plus the shoes, the hair, the dress (no pant suits), the smile, the voice, …

More than anything, it’s her character and her beliefs. We can’t discount the fact that she’s a total babe. We can’t. We live in a very visual world and that’s just the way that it is. When I first heard her name bandied about here a month or two ago, I went and did some research on her. First thing I see is a picture. Wow! That wasn’t enough, though, so I started going through the background. That’s when I started swooning. She’s got it all.

My mother used to give me a lot of grief when I bashed Hillary Clinton. “You just won’t vote for a woman,” she used to say. Actually, gender had nothing to do with it. I always responded that I’d gladly vote for a woman who shared the same beliefs I had. Unfortunately, my mother passed away two years ago. If she was here, I’d be pointing at Sarah on television and saying, “Where’s my ballot?”

I hope Sarah understands that millions of Americans are taking her into their hearts. She’s a special person, the likes of which we don’t see more than once every two or three generations.

. I went down to my local Republican HQ at lunch for a yard sign and stickers, and all I can say is if we win, it will be in spite of rather than because of the party infrastructure. No McCain/Palin signs, stickers, etc. for about 3 or so more weeks. Not like the election is only 8 weeks away or anything. Not like there aren’t ten print shops within two miles of the office.

. Oh well. Planted a McCain sign in my yard and volunteered to organize some intersection sign-waving, as long as they are McC/P signs.

. The sign in sheet didn’t even ask for an email address. Good grief.

. I’m in a mid-sized Florida town, and in the 15 minutes I was standing talking to them, another 4 people came in, all asking for the McCain/Palin versions. Two took the McCain only signs, two passed and said they’d come back when they included Palin. Hmmmm.

. Strike while the iron is hot. Make hay while the sun shines. Carpe the Diem. Whatever. If you can’t lead, at least keep up!

McCain should make a poster of the body surfing picture that Hot Air sometimes shows for Obama. The caption could be “When the going gets tough, Obama goes surfing.”

Sorry, but last night I saw three TV spots showing Obama, responding to Russia’s invasion of Georgia. Obama looked so incompetent it was scary. He wasn’t answering gotcha questions. Rather, in each case, Obama’s campaign had called press conferences to allow Obama to make his pronouncement. Still, he needed three shots before finally getting it right by agreeing with McCain. The best part was that in his last press conference he looked like a fourth grader reading a book report that a classmate wrote for him. He was pathetic.

And his command of economics is worse. Oy.

Queen0fCups on September 5, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Let’s put this on some t-shirts and mugs…

“Well, it’s always, though, safer in politics to avoid risk, to just kind of go along with the status quo. But I didn’t get into government to do the safe and easy things. A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not why the ship is built.

Politics isn’t just a game of competing interests and clashing parties. The people of America expect us to seek public office and to serve for the right reasons.

And the right reason is to challenge the status quo and to serve the common good. Now, no one expects us to agree on everything, whether in Juneau or in Washington. But we are expected to govern with integrity, and goodwill, and clear convictions, and a servant’s heart.”

(Bold is where a trim would do nicely.)

“I’m not voting McCain. I’m voting Palin”
uptight on September 5, 2008 at 9:52 PM

“The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.”
“If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President.”
“In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.”
Wouldn’t voting for the VP moreover the President be like voting for a backup quarterback who has no choice as to what goes in the playbook unless there’s a tie among the other players?
It’s a shame she’s taking this role: she had much more influence as a Governor than she could as Vice President, not to mention she’ll now carry the millstone of being one of that guy’s people anytime she ever runs for office again.

This just in from the Al Gore Team:

FOUND: SOURCE OF POLAR ICE MELTING

Al Gore’s crack-team of environmental researchers and scientist have determined that the cause of the polar ice melt was in fact, Sarah Palin, Govenor of Alaska. The Goracle’s Lead scientist exclaimed, “A woman as hot as Palin should not be anywhere near a polar ice cap! She’s just too damed hot!”

It’s no coincidence that, since Palin’s rise to power in Alaska, the of the ice caps have been melting a similar rate. The correlation between these two events is uncanny.

Gore’s team suggests moving Palin to someplace like Washington DC in order to prevent further polar ice cap melting. Further, Gore’s team recommends moving Senator Clinton to Alaska reverse the affects of Palin’s “hotness”
on the Arctic region. Former President Clinton concurs with this recommendation.

Sending Palin to Washington DC will, in essence, put the earth back into balance.

Palamainia Rules!!!
