Video: The RNC Palin biography clip you didn’t get to see; Update: Ratings blowout — 37 million watched; Update: Palin’s speech was carried on six networks, Obama’s on ten

Rudy did well enough that we can forgive him for running long and getting this bumped from the program, especially since they’re going to capitalize on the fee-vah and air it tonight. What do the Nielsen ratings look like, you say? Why, like this. For the moment, at least, with curiosity peaking, the Barracuda is an even bigger draw than The One.
They really like the moose-hunting meme, huh? Exit quotation from a former Bush official, citing panic among his lefty friends: “[T]he same reporter who first told me that ’she’d be toast by Friday’ told me after tonight’s speech that Obama must be wishing that McCcain [sic] had picked Pawlenty.”
Update: Drudge has the numbers: 38.3 million watched Obama’s speech, 37.2 million watched Palin — which is roughly 54 times the population of Alaska. Supah-stah!
Update: Via TLOMB, it’s even more impressive than we thought. Imagine what the numbers would have been like if the media was fair:
The Sarah Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just 1.1 million viewers short of Barack Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).

I know. Poor planning by the RNC. What am I supposed to do now?!
Akzed on September 4, 2008 at 3:44 PM
That was a nice video, but count me too as one of the ones that was glad it did not play last night. Rudy did such a great job igniting the audience, no intro was needed.

No. He’s too much gun control.

Do you think Linda Carter would butcher a Moose though?

Rudy was relaxed and on fire. Was a bit worried that he set the bar too high for Palin, then she pushed it higher.

So now Obama and Palin are 1 and 1. She has almost as big a following as he does and he has almost as much experience as she does!

THAT would be genius! Call McCain headquarters immediately.

I’m actually kind of glad that it didn’t run. It made many of the same points that Palin made in her bio about herself. And, honestly, it sounded better coming out of her mouth than the pre-packaged video.
Queasy on September 4, 2008 at 3:49 PM
All of Obama’s questions at his presser today were about Palin. So Obama is running against 2 people now.
CanadianGuy on September 4, 2008 at 3:50 PM
Good point. Linda would be building the fire to roast the flesh while Sarah’Cuda butchered the moose and carved it up into female-friendy chunks.
By the way, Upinak, I saw a picture somewhere that referened “Eskimo Ice Cream” made from slamon roe. I love caviar and this sounds intriguing. Have you ever had this delicacy?

Salmon Roe?
I have had, what people call, Eskimo Ice Cream, but it wasn’t Salmon Roe. It is Rendered Whle Fat with Blue Berries. It isn’t bad, but you can’t eat a lot of it.
upinak on September 4, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Me too, but VPILF won’t fly in family publications – unless you qualified it by saying that the acronym means Vice President I’d Love to Follow.
But then, it doesn’t have the same panache as SARAH’CUDA or ARCTIC FOX.
ManlyRash on September 4, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Look, I really think she’s incredible, and I’ll be genuinely heartbroken if it turns out she isn’t the real deal, but please don’t go that far. It was always creepy when they did it with him. We can’t make it uncreepy by making it our own.

How we have waited for you, we must confess
And the powers you possess
You’re such a glorious sight
Fighting for our rights
And for the old Red, White and Blue
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman
How we are so ready for you
And the wonders you can do
Turn a moose into a stew
Send a fancy jet off into the blue
Make a leftest liar tell the truth
Wonder Woman
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman
All our hopes are pinned on you
And the magic that you can do
Stop a moose cold
Make Obama worship old
Change their minds, and change the world
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman
You’re a wonder, Wonder Woman

Good film bio — except for the ending. The world didn’t shake when Gov. Palin was nominated, any more than the oceans stopped rising or the world stopped cooling when Obama was nominated. The Republicans ridiculed Obama (and rightly so) for his silly hyperbole; there’s no need for the Republicans to be engaging in the same kind of nonsense.
A frugal state governor with a record of fighting corruption is impressive enough on its own. I’d prefer to see them just stick to the facts; embellishments are not necessary here.

Has anyone see this in the Headlines section?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26539124/
Way to go with the race baiting, CNN. I wonder how long it took them to find a camera angle without a minority prominently visible.
Funny how they tend to ignore the rainbow of speakers, the fact that Republicans ended slavery and the fact that Republicans have appointed the first African American first Afican American SecState (Powell) and African Amercian female SecState, etc.
If the RNC does not jump all over this, I will be disappointed.
Damiano on September 4, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Biden shouldn’t sit with his back to the door, either. ZERObama was rattled. He was belittling his own precious community organizing to get away from the question of what a community organizer does. Too funny.
progressoverpeace on September 4, 2008 at 4:00 PM
You’re right, and I completely agree about your point. Let’s not turn her into “The One.”
Though I have less a problem with it here since I’m just taking it as though he’s saying the world was shaken up by her nomination, which while an exaggeration isn’t too far from the truth, especially after seeing the ratings.
Esthier on September 4, 2008 at 4:02 PM
Hannity is saying that her speech was carried on fewer netwoks than Obama’s.
Anyone have the details on where his aired that hers didn’t?

Gimme some details or links.
(Sorry but whats OODA?)
BTW- I couldnt believe Fox didnt air Mitt and Huck so I switched it over to CNNHD- awesome coverage of Rudy and Sarah… and I have it saved for posterity on the DVR for whenever I feel down.
Chuck Schick on September 4, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Interesting, but probably not relevant. The apt comparison would be between how many networks showed Biden’s speach, and then how many show McCain’s.
Immolate on September 4, 2008 at 4:04 PM
It would be nice if the biased MSM would
tell the American voters that Sarah is
Governor of Alaska, and not just a small
town mayor,that she once was!
Hannity, just mentioned the numbers on the
speeches,apparently,Hopey and Changey was
covered on 4 more networks!
That would mean that SaraCuda would be ahead
in the numbers,very interesting,me thinks!

CanadianGuy on September 4, 2008 at 4:05 PM
I can’t believe how far this RNC convention has gone off script, with such fantastic results.
*Hurricane Gustav forces cancellation of first night — no President Bush speech for Dems to beat up on, Republicans look compassionate, GOP governors in LA and MS look uber-competent, press looks stupid for hyping another Katrina that doesn’t happen
*media feeding frenzy of Gov. Palin gets GOP delegates and rank and file fired up and drives Obama-level TV ratings for her speech, press looks stupid for piling on and adding to viewer interest
*Rudy goes overtime and knocks out Palin film; crowd stays fired up, Palin looks Presidential walking out alone with no introduction, media has no time to slam Rudy or set up negatives about Palin’s speech (I actually think this was likely a last minute decision by the McCain camp for precisely this reason), press looks stupid for belitting Palin as she gives awesome speech
rockmom on September 4, 2008 at 4:05 PM
That thought about putting her on CNN against O’Reilly is excellent! Someone should send it to the people who could make it happen!
I’m really irritated by Obama’s rudeness in light of McCain’s commercial congratulating him.
I heard O’Reilly explain that he had to do it because, what was he suppose to say not after all the begging he’s done.
Okay I get that but… he said people who were unhappy about it were the right wing crazies! I emailed him when I heard. He is allowing his show to be used! I’m not a right wing crazy thank you very much!!!! And Obama is being rude.

Nice little video, but they were actually fortunate that Rudy ran a little long. Palin simply walking out sans-intro was (maybe unintentionally) PERFECT. It gave the aura of confidence that she didn’t need one of these puff pieces. It turned out better than they could have planned.

Re; Obama presser
There was a bit of a feeding frenzy (as much of one as you will ever see from the kneepad reporters covering Obama) with reporters asking him about Gov. Palin’s speech and if he can explain what a comnunity orgainzer does. He was extremely defensive and pissed. Some folks at FR thought he looked stressed because he has just finished taping his O’Reilly interview, and maybe O’Reilly took it to him, but I didn’t see that so much as I saw him just not used to being on the defensive and not having very good answers prepared. He whined about the speeches being negative and not having anything to offer America on the economy, yadda yadda. No attempt at being classy on the day of McCain’s speech the way McCain was last week with his ad.
I think he knows the game’s over. He’s not getting any more free rides and he is not going to be handed this election, he is going to have to go out there and win it.
rockmom on September 4, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Drudge has a thing up saying Palin’s speech is raising money for Obama, says he should have $10M by the time McCain speaks.
Darksean on September 4, 2008 at 4:14 PM
I didn’t see all of her, but I saw her earlier in an interview, and she was great. She seems to like Palin a great deal. And besides, I thought she had a few zingers at Biden. For example, paraphrasing, “the last time I checked, Palin is governor of a state with the same number of electoral votes as the state where Biden comes from.” But the crusher was when she said that Palin is governor of a state that is large enough to fit 250 Delawares in it. I thought that was effective.
I’m not trying to pick a fight. I thought she was pretty good. At a minimum, I didn’t think she was that bad.
BuckeyeSam on September 4, 2008 at 4:15 PM
We must be careful not to turn her into a celeberty. I’m sure the Obama folks would start cranking out celeberty ads.

By definition ALL foxes fit that description. To most people, the image of a fox is not a creature outside the ninth level of hell (that’s reserved for Hillary)but a sly, quick, agile little carnivore. And the moment anyone googles an image of the Arctic Fox (the actual creature, not our lovely Sarah’cuda)they will say…yeah.
I’LL GO WITH…ARCTIC FOX
ManlyRash on September 4, 2008 at 4:16 PM
Folks, this story is much bigger than just 37 million viewers.
Palin actually reached 37 million compared to O’s 38 million, yet she did it WITH FOUR FEWER NETWORKS broadcasting the speech.
Obama had 10 networks. Palin had only 6.

Obama’s speech aired on two African-American cable networks (for obvious reasons), BET and TV One, as well as a couple of Spanish language networks.

Crucial difference:
The One is an empty suit and at his rallies his mindless followers chant “O-Bah-Mah, O-Bah-Ma, O-Bah-Mah.”
Sarah’Cuda is an experienced executive and at her rallies loyal Americans chant “U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A.”

TheSitRep on September 4, 2008 at 4:21 PM
I would guess he means ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX? I thing the major networks left it up to the cable news networks – which was their way of influencing the viewership.
Mr_Magoo on September 4, 2008 at 4:22 PM
Some more facts:
* The Sarah Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just a 1.1 million viewers short of Barack Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).
* Palin attracted a large female audience (19.5 million women, or 4.9 million more than Day 3 of the Democratic Convention).
* Ratings for viewers 55+ (25.2) continue to be about ten times higher than for teens (2.2)
* Day 3 for the GOP attracted more Hispanic viewers (1.4 million) than Day 3 of the Democratic Convention (1.2 million), even though Univision and Telemundo did not carry the speech.

An ultra-left friend just emailed to say she’s convinced Palin is “a sociopath.” “I would bet my house on it,” she says – adducing as evidence the fact that Palin was so poised during her speech.
Only a sociopath could be that cool and composed under fire!
I don’t know if this is a new meme from DU or dKos, but thought I would pass it along for entertainment value.
Incidentally, my friend also believes Bush, Cheney, and Rove are sociopaths, and the entire Bush administration is a “sociopathic entity.”
