Video: The RNC Palin biography clip you didn’t get to see; Update: Ratings blowout — 37 million watched; Update: Palin’s speech was carried on six networks, Obama’s on ten

Rudy did well enough that we can forgive him for running long and getting this bumped from the program, especially since they’re going to capitalize on the fee-vah and air it tonight. What do the Nielsen ratings look like, you say? Why, like this. For the moment, at least, with curiosity peaking, the Barracuda is an even bigger draw than The One.

They really like the moose-hunting meme, huh? Exit quotation from a former Bush official, citing panic among his lefty friends: “[T]he same reporter who first told me that ’she’d be toast by Friday’ told me after tonight’s speech that Obama must be wishing that McCcain [sic] had picked Pawlenty.”

Update: Drudge has the numbers: 38.3 million watched Obama’s speech, 37.2 million watched Palin — which is roughly 54 times the population of Alaska. Supah-stah!

Update: Via TLOMB, it’s even more impressive than we thought. Imagine what the numbers would have been like if the media was fair:

The Sarah Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just 1.1 million viewers short of Barack Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).

Don’t forget, Univision has the highest viewership in the country thanks to those who fail to seal the border.

They are both ruthless neocon killing machines. This speaks to the Palin convention “narrative” which the media sees through their lens.

I’d like to see PROOF that Sarah Palin is the daughter of Chuck & Sally Heath and not the secret love child of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.

She is unstoppable now. And Obambi nearly came unglued when barraged with questions about her. Lovin’ the spectacle. Lovin’ it. Yesssss…

Actually, the lack of Univision and Telemundo (over-the-air tv) is telling. Any viewers of TVOne or BET (both on cable) who wanted to see Palin had alternatives… However, UV and TM translate the speech for their viewers to spanish, meaning any spanish-only viewers had no other options. Did they broadcast Biden’s speech?

AverageJoe on September 4, 2008 at 5:12 PM

The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).

TV One???
Does Barack “The One” Obama have his own television station now?

Here you go: Margaret Thatcher supported very liberal abortion rights, fully supported science such as stem cell research, and never showed any interest in creationism. Case closed.

foreverright on September 4, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Agreed, but she isn’t running for President; she’s running for the second spot. And even if she loses, then she’ll have enough experience the next time around.

Not only was she a governor, she’s a principled woman who resigned over corruption. She’s awesome. I like Fred, but he’s no Sarah. No way, no how. And Rudy just doesn’t match up – no pro-gun control, pro-choice. He’s a great guy, but not going to rally the base.

Palin’s speech was carried on six networks

That awesome speech written for Sarah Palin’s BIG début was made by a most wonderful person–Matt Scully!

As a right-leaning independent, it’s so nice to see that there are some Republicans that care about animals. Most Repubs are fond of calling animal-welfare types loonies.

I wonder if it felt strange at all to Palin, a hunter, having an animal-welfare-anti-hunting advocate writing her BIG speech?

I saw that last night. They had that pop up during the entire convention. Notice how they left out that he has less than a 10% chance of it returning… about the same as anyone else getting melanoma for the 1st time.

And yet, still no talk about Biden’s 2 aneurysms.

Damiano on September 4, 2008 at 5:43 PM

I just received a call from a Democratic person trying to convince me to vote for the Democrat candidate in my congressional district which includes Huntsville, AL.

I told him that although I had no plans to vote on the congressional district candidates due to not spending any time to examine the candidates (only been in AL for five years for work only), once he told me his party, I told him I will not vote for his candidate because his party is affiliated with the DailyKOS, DU, MoveOn.Org and the MSM and their disgusting evil attacks on Sarah Palin’s family including their vicious attack of Bristol. Then hung up.

Definitely let them know that being linked to the MSM and the HateBlogs of the left has made me vote now Republican even not even knowing who that candidate is.

And being a community organizer and voting “present” instead of yes or no gets you excited. How about being a chairman of a sub committee:

MR. RUSSERT: Senator Obama, I want you to respond to not holding oversight for your subcommittee. But also, do you reserve a right as American president to go back into Iraq, once you have withdrawn, with sizable troops in order to quell any kind of insurrection or civil war?

SEN. OBAMA: Well, first of all, I became chairman of this committee at the beginning of this campaign, at the beginning of 2007. So it is true that we haven’t had oversight hearings on Afghanistan.

Gee, chairman of an important sub-committee but never held a meeting.
Is that why you are voting for him???

I agree, Obama isn’t qualified. But that fact doesn’t meant that Palin is qualified. Literally, that’s the argument we’ve seen emerge and it’s absurd. Sure, 2 years as governor of a very small state is good, but it’s not exactly a resume for succeess in DC. It’s the same experience that GW Bush had.

And I never said that I’m voting for Obama, not at all.

I’m not huge on hunting myself, but I think a lot of people fail to realize that without sport hunting, a HUGE population of animals would die a much crueler death via starvation.

The simple fact is there aren’t enough predators in the wild to maintain the balance required between prey and predator. There never has been. But it’s much better to have hundreds of deer\birds etc starve to death over the course of weeks during the winter rather than a rather quick death via hunting…. ok then.

Personally, I’ve never hunted and never really felt an urge. I’d be the guy out there that couldn’t finish off an animal I wounded after looking into it’s big eyes. But that doesn’t mean I don’t see the necessity in it or that I plan on turning vegan anytime soon.

BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo.

Aaaahhhh, yes. So, once again, if you’re black or hispanic, the Democrats who control the media will filter what you see to make certain that the only opinions you hear are liberal ones.

This is a favorite theme of mine. I have been pointing this out about the Chicago Tribune for years – if you’re a black or hispanic Chicagoan, you’ll not read a single word in the Tribune from a black or hispanic conservative.

They exist, but the Trib will never publish their opinions. Gotta keep the minorities down on the plantation, don’t ya know.

As Obama falls in the polls, the Liberal Media is going to literally implode. John McCain has lived through the worst torture a human could possibly take; Sarah Palin is also one tough woman, and will not be swallowed up by these Liberal ass wipes. However, we need to do our part on our end. Obama is also going to come apart at the seams as he watches reality take place before his eyes.

What a bunch of elitist thug punks; the whole lot of them. Disgusting breed of humans!

Keemo on September 4, 2008 at 7:24 PM

Also, PBS just chimed in to say 3.2 million watched on their network, which brings Palin’s total viewership on ad-supported and public airwaves to more than 40 million.

and 4 stations that carried the Zero’s speech did not carry the RNC.

TheSitRep on September 4, 2008 at 7:29 PM

(with apologies to the gems who have recently begun to post)

Bob's Kid on September 4, 2008 at 7:59 PM

It’s sad to consider the implications of BET and Univision carrying the Dem convention, but not all of the RNC. Stations ostensibly dedicated to the interests of two large minorities are telling them there is no reason to listen to the other side – their only choices are Obama and staying home. Doubtless many engaged voters in those demographics will have sought out the RNC and gotten the information they need to consider both sides on their own, but I feel sad for the ones that don’t, the ones that are told their political options are an absolute dead end: obey and vote as you’re told, or stay home.

If the Confederacy had won the Civil War, and somehow kept slavery legal to the present day, I suppose they would have kept their slaves penned up in substandard housing, providing the bare necessities of life, and making sure they were poorly educated and easy to lead. No doubt there would have been slave stations on TV, designed to feed them exactly what they needed to reinforce their obedience. Disobedience would have been punished, and the general population would have been indoctrinated to hate and fear renegade slaves. How is any of that different from what we have today, other than the food being more fattening, and the only labor expected of the underclass being to vote for the duly designated Democrat candidates?

Michael Steele, Clarence Thomas, and the other brave renegades are the future. Obama is so last century.

Yeah and she is running for VP not POTUS. She is running to be the person who warms a seat in the Senate in case they need a tiebreaker vote for 4 years. Obama, who has no more experience, is running to be ‘the Man’ ’round these parts. That scares me FAR more than any real or perceived lack of experience a VP candidate has (or I suppose more appropriately, ‘doesn’t have’).

If you are truly voting based on experience I don’t see how you have any choice but McCain. He has an actual record of public service unlike Obama’s non-experience.

Community Organizer doesn’t mean ready to become president. Biased Media lust doesn’t mean ready to become president. Hatred for unborn children (AKA punishment) doesn’t mean ready to become president. 20 years of absorbing the racist, hateful, anti-American statements from some insane jew-hating, white-hating, gun-hating fake pastor doesn’t mean ready to become president.

And moreover, a lack of decisiveness in the face of important topic after important topic while you represent REAL people with REAL lives DISqualifies a person to be president. Earmarking 1 million dollars of taxpayer money to a hospital that your wife is the vice president of disqualifies you to be president.

Understand now, Marxist?

And for the record, Some Republicans choose Jesus Christ as a hero to imitate and revere. Some of us chose a man that actually had a solid record of inspiring miracles of life, and healing others. Your savior, a man that has a record of not only being an elitist that can’t meet with the people, supports and inspires others to commit murder on unborn and partially born children.

If you can’t accept these solid facts about your hero, like many liberals, you’re an idiot that’s been disillusioned by evil men and women that only have the intention to destroy capitalism and morality.

Furthermore, get out of my country. You’re neither wanted, nor welcome here by the bulk of the citizens that demand capitalism, and demand freedom. I hear Russia needs more stormtroopers to invade democratic nations.

Before you dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard, consider this:

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit
that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska , Palin is briefed on highly classified Military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified
material may rival even Biden’s and certainly by far exceeds Obama’s.

She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s
counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the
entire country’s defense. Given Alaska ’s proximity to Russia , she may have security clearances we don’t even know about. According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

meoky on September 5, 2008 at 1:22 PM

Fox News Channel led the way Wednesday, with 9.2 million people watching Palin’s speech on the cable channel. It was the third-largest audience in its history, behind only President Bush’s speech on Iraq in March 2003 and a Bush-Kerry presidential debate in 2004.

Hey, that’s not counting all of us without cable who dumped PBS network to get online FOXNEWS.com and watch live streaming the GOP Convention. Thank you, FOX, since our local affiliates didn’t cover it, for letting us view online.

So Palin’s speech beat American Idol Finale and the Olympic festivities as well. It would have surpassed Nada Obama’s but for the neglect in networks covering it. NO PROBLEM!
