Nuance: Matthews and Pat Buchanan scream at each other about sexism

Via Ben Smith. After two hard weeks of convention coverage I’m too spent to care, but it still beats watching Grahamnesty speechify. The best part comes about a minute in; skip ahead to 8:00 or so for the Fox News exchange before you give up on it. This is like watching Rosie O’Donnell and Alex Jones argue over who’s thinner.

Stay classy Chrissy, and remember you are undermining Hillary’s future narrative.
Judo friends, judo…

I saw this live. It was hilarious. I was surprised that somehow regained their composure. Michelle Bernard looked a little worried for a minute.

I’ll watch when it erupts into a drunken poolroom bar brawl.
I’d bet on Pitchfork Pat. He wouldn’t hesitate to kick Matthews in the area where Chris’ testicles would normally be.

‘Sister Sarah,’ huh?
Well, I guess Obama and Biden can be her two mules.

I’ve watched Megyn Kelly and Chrissy-poo, you’re no Megyn Kelly!
Matthews needs to stop getting those blood transfusions from Olby.
Damn. I can’t even watch all this. This country is going down the drain if people like Matthews, his sidekick (didn’t get her name) and the rest of the MS-as-Obama-shills are given any credence.

Nervous laughter from Chris…priceless.

(1)MS in MSNBC stands for Misogyny? Wow. Just, wow.
And (2) “Just as Barack Obama had to take these questions…” Funny, I missed the who’s-gonna-take-care-of-Obama’s-kids-when-he’s-campaigning question. Palin, on the other hand, got it from John Roberts.

Chris, you moron. No one’s asking you to stfu about questions regarding her experience or qualifications, that’s fine.
Idiot – questions about her f-ing family are NOT appropriate.
Clintons? Give me a break – no one gave them crap about their daughter, but Hillary and Bill were fair game because they were both in the game. The moment Palin’s husband starts campaign speeches and trying to chair his own programs (eg: Hillary and health care), then you can go after HIM.
MORON.

Buchanan: “…its not PR Chris they (most of America) just don’t like the press”.
Mathews: “…haha…hehe”.
MSM just don’t get it. They doesn’t look at the newspapers losing subscribers by the 1000’s? Mathews doesn’t look at his own lackluster ratings. The MSM just doesn’t get it.
Time for the new media…bloggers…to take over.

Both Chrissy and Buchanan are useless. Too bad they didn’t kill each other. Buchanan gives conservatives a bad name and appearing as a token on MSLSD doesn’t change that.

Not defend Republican nominees.
He’ll be gone by the end of the year after the election is over.

True. Two turds who both suck.
Chwissy Matthews talking about asking tough questions is hilarious considering his “tingling up his leg” comment.

Chrissy is such a smirking Liberal f*cking prick.
I can’t wait till that cesspool of a network self-destructs.
FiveWays on September 4, 2008 at 9:55 PM
I really love the way Hardball has kept having the loonie lefties in the background throughout the whole convention. The other day it was truthers and this episode featured the big sign saying “this party is so over” and the crowd cheering Chrissy on every time he slammed the Repubs.
Big John on September 4, 2008 at 9:55 PM
That was my takeaway too. It’s clear, as much as Chris tried to laugh, it was clearly nervous… as well as phony. I will give him that Buchanan made a weak case, when there is plenty case to be made (i.e. “Does Obama get asked if he can take care of his children if he’s POTUS?”), but he (Chris) did NOT like being called out on his own show, for something he apparently things is a secret, he and all of his “colleagues” are in the tank, left-wing crazies. That laughter was priceless, however 99% of those who watch him won’t catch that, because they’re all of the same breed of zombie that he is.
RightWinged on September 4, 2008 at 9:57 PM
Another thing, I thought Matthews had it right about tough scrutiny and tough questions by the press. Too bad we haven’t seen that with Obama.

This is, what, the fifth shouting match or open disagreement on this network in the last week?
The problem is that this network has no standards for its journalists or on-air talent. Anybody can say whatever the hell they want, at any time, on any show.
Reporters give opinions, commentators can report news and if you want to argue a point, just go right ahead. Objectivity, fairness, balance be damned.
If the future of news is represented by this network, we’re in big trouble.

One, insinuating incest, dragging out a DWI by the spouse from 22 years ago, and speculating on a daughter’s pregnancy are not acceptable lines of “investigation.”
Two, all three of them have estrogen in their body.
I would ask MSNBC to disallow people who are completely ignorant of a subject from discussing it, but then what on Earth would they do for a line-up?

Chris was part of a panel discussion aired on C-SPAN today, and apparently, without his MS-KGB guards around (the ‘K’ in this case standing for ‘Keith’) actually gave John McCain credit for being the candidate most likely to work in a bi-partisan manner if elected president, and said Obama has shown no sign of bi-partisanship and has never moved away from his lefty friends in the Senate.
It was something that, if anyone had said that to Matthews on MSNBC, he’d go ballistic about it. Chris is such a split personality it’s hard to say if this just isn’t a matter of him forgetting to take his meds to St. Paul, but listening to the C-SPAN talk compared to what he normally says was the Democratic left equivalent of Peggy Noonan’s open mic faux pas on MSNBC Wednesday afternoon.
jon1979 on September 4, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Folks, we could go on and on about the “objectivity” of the folks over at MSNBC, but I think the following says it all:
TV VIEWERS FOR PALIN, 10 PM ET
FOXNEWS 9,038,000
NBC 7,720,000
CNN 6,114,000
ABC 5,050,000
CBS 4,630,000
MSNBC 3,277,000

Redteam on September 5, 2008 at 12:15 AM
I find Pat’s populist/nativist leanings troubling, and it’s uncomfortable to agree with him, but…
Pat was right. The MainScream Media fancies themselves the “Fourth Estate”, as if it were co-equal with the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government. To put it baldly, no candidate is compelled to submit to an interrogation by “the Sunday talk shows…”, especially when they’ve shown themselves to be anything but the objective journalists to which Chrissie pretends.
Unfortunately, Pat didn’t enumerate the sort of questions that have been asked of Gov. Palin that are never asked of male politicians. For that, I think we need a montage edited together and uploaded to YouTube.

I’m sorry but I saw reporters say they were sent to Alaska to find out if the Kos rumours were true and detailed the Kos rumours ON THE AIR.
There is a world of difference between going after Bristol Palin and covering a story about a sitting President exploiting a girl only 4 years older than Bristol. And then using his Presidential power to cover it up and lieing under oath and lying to the American power. So Matthews is full of it.
And Chris Matthews shouldn’t be asking anyone questions as any kind of fair dealer because he is so blind to any other view than his own.

I came to the conclusion earlier this year that Matthews was a raging alcoholic. It’s a shame ’cause Matthews used to be a guy who was interesting to read or listen to until he became unbent over the war. his book “Kennedy and Nixon: The Rivalry that Shaped America” was believe it or not quite fair to Nixon and was a very good red. Now he foams at the mouth over “neocons” and has drifted into paleocon territory – which makes his dust up with Buchanan hilarious to watch. Yes it is like Saddam’s Iraq v. Khomeini’s Iran – too bad they both could not lose (as Kissinger once said).

Chris Matthews, et al, have research staffs. If he wants examples of inappropriate questions, he should have them look into it rather than pop the question to a guess who does not have their research handy.
Here are what I feel are a collection of inappropriate questions asked on MSM by paid staff or contributors, not the blogs or tabloids. The theme is that Sarah is a bad mother for wanting to be VP: mothers need not apply for executive positions.
“There’s also this issue that on April 18th, she gave birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome…. Children with Down’s syndrome require an awful lot of attention. The role of Vice President, it seems to me, would take up an awful lot of her time, and it raises the issue of how much time will she have to dedicate to her newborn child?” John Roberts CNN
“How can a woman run a state and bring up five children at the same time?… I think they have every right to ask that…” Liz Trotta, Media Prof at New School
“Is she prepared for the all-consuming nature of the job? She is the mother of five children, one of them a four-month-old with Down Syndrome. Her first priority has to be her children. When the phone rings at three in the morning and one of her children is really sick what choice will she make?” Sally Quin Washington Post
“Adding to the brutality of a national campaign, the Palin family also has an infant with special needs. What leads you, the Senator, and the Governor to believe that one won’t affect the other in the next couple of months?” Bill Weir Good Morning America
” There is another question though which essentially I’ve heard expressed here many times today and from calls elsewhere, and that is the decision made by Sarah Palin herself, when knowing her daughter’s condition, by accepting John McCain’s offer she guaranteed that her daughter would be known globally as the best known 17-year-old unwed teenager in the world, and that decision many people question… The question of how it affected her daughter is not open to question. It has made her daughter a front-page item for the country.” Mark Shield PBS // No, Mark, “It” did not do this; the media did this. Mark seems to want unwed teens to be held in seclusion… to protect them from an unprofessional media. //
“But there’s also, I think the part of it is the particular dynamic of her family, Megan. Her youngest child, down’s syndrome and now her oldest daughter is pregnant. And there are some moms out there that are angry, that are saying she has put her family unfairly into the spotlight.” Meredith Viera Today // Meredith wants special needs children secluded along with their pregnant sisters. //
“Congresswoman, what about the argument that, you know, vice president is a tough job, and that having a four month old baby, who has Down’s Syndrome, that will have special needs, requires extra time, that, that she should be focusing on her four month old, that some people have said that, fairly or unfairly. What do you think of that?’ Norah O’Donnell MSNBC

That’s right folks! When you don’t have anything of substance to talk about, smear your opponent as a Muslim, Communist, or better yet — a TERRORIST! *sniff, sniff* I can almost smell the bigoted righteous indignation.
