Man who ignored Palin’s status as Governor aggrieved at lack of recognition as Senator
posted at 6:05 pm on September 4, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Someone call Barack Obama a wahhhmbulance. In a statement today following Sarah Palin’s tough speech, Obama complained that she ignored the work he did as a legislator in the Illinois and US Senates (via Brian Faughnan):
This is work I did three [sic] years ago They haven’t talked about the fact that I was a civil rights lawyer. They haven’t talked about the fact that I taught constitutional law. They haven’t talked about my work in the state legislature or the United States Senate. They’re talking about the three years of work that I did right out of college, as if I’m making the leap from 2 or 3 years out of college into the presidency.
First, Barack Obama himself has held out his community-organizing work on many occasions as one of the touchstones of experience that prepares him now to be President. But more to the point, he’s also the same person who forgot that Palin has been Governor of Alaska for two years in ridiculing her as the Mayor of “Wasilly”:
BO: Well, you know, my understanding is that, uh, Governor Palin’s town of Wasilly [sic] has, uh, 50 employees, uh, uh, we’ve got 2500, uh, in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. Uh, uh, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month. Uh, so I think that, uh, our ability to manage large systems, uh, and to, uh, execute, uh, I think has been made clear over the last couple of years. Uh, and certainly, in terms of, uh, the legislation that I’ve passed just dealing with this issue post-Katrina, uh, of how we handle emergency management. The fact that, uh, many of my recommendations were adopted and are being put in place, uh, as we speak indicates to extent to which we can provide the kinds of support and good service that the American people expect.
One more point. Sarah Palin refused to act like a victim last night, although everyone who has followed the smears and the sneers of her critics know that she certainly could have legitimately claimed that status. Palin instead answered her critics with tough criticism of their own. Obama, on the other hand, whines that he didn’t get enough respect when he himself didn’t bother to provide that respect first.
Listen, Obama, sweetie … maybe you should just get over it.

Barry, you couldn’t win a boxing match with this lady, much less a leadership contest.
I am sure your self-approval rating is higher, but it will buy you little in the real world. When people think about who they want to be in foxhole with, it is unlikely to be you, and that isn’t because she is a looker. It’s because if she said she would cover your back, you could believe it.
You or Biden would run like butter on a hot plate at the first hint of trouble.
Be nervous. Be very nervous, you lying sack of low-grade night soil.

Civil rights lawyer? OK, Barry. When? With which firm? Which clients? Where? What was the outcome? How many cases? When? Where? Outcomes? Straight fee or contingency? Who paid for your services?
State senator? OK, Barry, other than vote present and sign-on as a co-sponsor, what particular piece of legislation did you create, nurture through the process, get passed, and what were the trade-offs to get that particular bill passed into law? At any time did you have to put all your poliical capital on the line for your voting “Aye” or “Nay” on any legislation? When? What’s the Bill number? Who opposed you? Why?
He’s had legal training, he should be able to answer simple questions.
You joined Reverand Wright’s church. OK, Barry, when did you subscribve to Black Liberation Theology? After 20 years why did you not take a principled stand against Wright or BLT? Why did you wait until Wright shot his mouth off about “G-D America” before you finally, reluctantly decided that being a Black Liberation Theologist would cost you votes?
And keep the incoming directed on Obama every hour, every day…control the tempo, timing and targetting.

sonnyspats1 on September 4, 2008 at 6:23 PM
The reason that Republicans don’t dwell on these “problems” that Obama wishes they would is that it’s his party that spews the “Woe is me, I’m a victim,” doomsday rhetoric. The Republicans don’t reflect the same “America sucks” scenario.
It’s like Noonan stated a few days back that the Democrats can’t (won’t?) see the good in America, and it reflects in how Obama narrates the tale of the United States as if we consisted only of pitiful stories of pitiful Americans.

Obama: (Best Rodney Dangerfield voice)
Its been a rough day. I got up this morning … put on a shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle came off. I’m afraid to go to the bathroom.
I was such an ugly kid … when I played in the sandbox the cat kept covering me up.
I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.
I was such an ugly baby … my mother never breast fed me. She told me that she only liked me as a friend.
I’m so ugly … my father carries around the picture of the kid who came with his wallet.
When I was born … the doctor came out to the waiting room and told my father, “We did everything we could … but he pulled through.”
I’m so ugly … my mother had morning sickness after I was born.
Once when I was lost … I saw a policeman and asked him to help me find my parents. I said to him, “Do you think we’ll ever find them?” “He said, “I don’t know kid … there are so many places they can hide.”

One of Obama’s favorite rhetorical techniques involves “as I have always said…” Which should be countered with “When? Where? With whom?”
Another is his penchant for evoking pathos by citing stories. “When I was in Ohio I talked to an unemployed steel worker who told me he didn’t have enough money to buy a tank of gas so he could drive to a job interview.” “OK, who was the guy? When did you talk to him? Where? Could he afford a few gallons of gas? Or was he demanding a full tank? Could he have gotten to the interview if you drove him? Take a bus? Hitchhike?”
Both rhetorical techniques are used constantly by Obama. Yet, no one has ever called him on any of it. Simple questions.

What about him being a civil rights lawyer? Does Barack have anything to point to there, besides walking into a building in the morning and walking out in the afternoon? What court cases can he cite?
About his teaching Constitutional Law, he graduated from law school in 1991 and started teaching Constitutional Law in 1992, IIRC. Would he mind providing his college and law school grades so we know how qualified he was to teach it right our of school?
And on that State Senator’s job, they could talk about it more if there were actually some records of his being there, besides his voting “Present” 130 times and fighting the good fight for leaving babies in a closet to die.
They’d love to talk about your 147 days in the US Senate. What did he do there?
