Interview: Senator Orrin Hatch

Before Sarah Palin blew the roof off of the Xcel Energy Center last night with her acceptance speech, I had an opportunity to speak to Senator Orrin Hatch on Radio Row yesterday. I started off asking about the excitement level of the convention, which may have been high enough when I asked it, but will almost certainly jump off the scale today. Hatch addressed some of the criticisms Palin had received over the last few days:

Hatch called Biden and Obama his friends and “nice people”, but stressed the hard-Left direction of the Democratic ticket. He also agreed that the attacks on Palin would backfire, heightening interest and getting people to tune in out of curiosity. If that’s true, and I think it probably was, the backfire will be historic. They practically served as her publicist.

Also, watch Hatch’s face when I ask about the experience level of John Edwards when John Kerry picked him as running mate. Hatch takes the ball and runs with it in comparing his treatment by the media this year to the treatment Palin received — and Clinton received.

Since Feburary the most engaged I have been in this race has been cheering for Hillary.

Now I am bubbling over with excitement and I cannot wait to pull the lever for Palin and whathisname.

Have to love how so many of the major lefty commentators tried to say that, “Well, now that Palin has taken on Obama personally, the Obama campaign (and ol’ Plugs in the VP debate) won’t have to worry about being aggressive. What a friggin joke.
Folks, they’re panicked. They’ve seen a politician who can match Obama for charisma… but also has the record to back it up. Palinmania baby. Catch it.

I’m an old ‘white guy,’ but have the same conclusion. You bet she can be the Prez!

Cap’n, please remember to stick a microphone in your guest’s face. Hatch is easier to hear than McConnell was, but not by much.

Mic. Ro. Phone. Thomas Edison invented it for a reason. ;)

Last night was pure sodomy. Pure sodomy on the media and the left. Pure sodomy. She just tore everyone a new one.

….with a baseball bat.

I hear you! I’ve been so excited the last six days that I cant seem to sit still or calm down.

Conservative Gunman on September 4, 2008 at 9:02 AM

And now, as Ed stated on the other thread, Obama and his media orcs will stupidly start comparing his record with hers while McCain sits quietly in the background, looking the part of the humble President-to-be.

Wonderful.

What do you bet Obama, Axelrod, Biden et. al called McCain a “SumBitch” when they heard Sarah was going to be his VP?

Elizabetty on September 4, 2008 at 9:07 AM

it’s fun to watch the empty suit try to take the pressure..

Better than the one that Barack Carpathia would make you get.

Close enough?

Conservative Gunman on September 4, 2008 at 9:18 AM

Yes, Biden and Obama are nice people.

The kind of people you want perhaps to have in your community.

But not having any say in how your run your life.

Not exactly, but close. Palin will run effective interference for McCain, keeping team Obama busy, while McCain drives ahead with the Presidential Platform.

Indeed. Also cheaper and less permanent. \
THanks

Great interview, Ed. hatch was eloquent and honest. I’ve only seen snippits of him on the Senate floor so I have no idea about him, but he certainly impressed me with the things he said here.

NOTES ON THE DEPROGRAMMING OF AN O-BOT

Open the conversation discussing the question of MSM double-standard; the Edwards comparison is the best one to bring up with folks when illustrating MSM bias. While the Obama Kool-Aid and Jedi mind trick may close their minds to any argument based on the puff treatment Glibama has gotten, everyone who actually follows the news at all knows about Silky’s pecadillo and the media’s shameful, in the tank, complicity…

After that, via a segue based on bemoaning Elizabeth’s public humiliation, you move on to the MSM’s shameless sexism when covering Hillary…

From there, it’s back to Silky, with something like:

“Yea that phoney Edwards, even though he spent his whole time in the senate running for president, and lacked any other real political experience, when he was anointed Kerry’s running mate in 2004 the sexist MSM didn’t talk about his lack of experience…”

This will give you the logical progression to steer the discussion towards the Dali-bama at long last, with something like:

“Y’know, that fella Barack Obama kinda seems to have spent his whole time in the senate runnin’ for president too…”

And then, you’re MONEY

Actually, it was a hockey stick.

Beto Ochoa on September 4, 2008 at 11:24 AM

I woke up this morning with that Reagan commerical “It’s Morning Again in America” on my mind!

It does feel like morning in America.

Then I have to pause. I will not drink the Kool Aid of any politician. She is inspiring and I don’t think she is like the others but… I need to see her over time. I will not swoon.

One thing I think may stick:

Obama has spent his time in government office writing books about himself. He is 47 years old, lived a somewhat different life than most… but not very exceptional. Yet he has written TWO books of self adoration.

How does his life warrent TWO books. Isn’t there any other subject he feels passionate about? Only his own life? And nothing to show for his work in community or government. Nothing. But two books about his favorite subject.

And I am thinking about the points in the speech as much as the woman who gave it. That is a good sign.

petunia on September 4, 2008 at 11:37 AM

Speaking of John Edwards…I just realized something (unless someone else has already brought it up)….why didn’t the MSM/Leftards go after Edwards for staying in the race after Elizabeth announced she had cancer?

Shouldn’t he have also dropped out as well in order to properly “take care of his family”?

The Double Standard Express rolls on.
