Gingrich: The media’s overplayed its hand in shilling for Obama
posted at 12:56 pm on September 4, 2008 by Allahpundit
Slow-pitch softball from CNS with conservative all-stars at the convention. Wishful thinking on Newt’s (and Mark Steyn’s) part? Maybe not:
Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin with their news coverage, and 24% say those stories make them more likely to vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in November…
In the new survey, while 24% are more likely to vote for Palin due to recent news coverage, 19% say the opposite and 54% say the stories have no impact on their votes…
Eighty percent (80%) of Republicans say reporters are trying to hurt the GOP vice presidential nominee, and 28% of Democrats agree.
The poll was taken before her speech so that 24/19 split is set to widen a bit, although I suspect the people saying they’re more likely to vote for her now were, like HA readers, already firmly committed to the ticket before the coverage got rolling on Monday. Much depends on where that 19 percent comes from, needless to say. Meanwhile, women voters see her as having been subjected to a sexist double standard to the tune of 48/35, which puts their opinion squarely in line with, er, Joe Biden’s (“I just think some of the stuff said has been over the top, totally unfair, and has been sexist and I think the way the governor has handled it has been admirable.”) Obama shill Roger Simon can’t for the life of him understand what everyone’s upset about, so Slublog helpfully clues him in. And yes, when I call him a shill, I’m using the term advisedly. Click the image to watch.

Again I say, it must be aversion to strong women NOT in pant suits. I wonder if Hillary could pull off being tough in a skirt or dress. Come to think of it, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Hillary in a skirt. . . she must think it isn’t powerful or something. Palin for President. She is America’s Maggie Thatcher, and not a moment too soon.

I’m waiting for the day when the dems will finally drop the facade and have the media types actually address their convention.
They could have a “media night” when the speakers are Oberman, Matthews, Couric, etc.

If there’s another watershed moment (beside the phenomenal one last night) we desperately need to have happen, it’s the MSM-tipping-point moment, when enough people – the market – for once and for all tunes out
Pravdathe MSM, rendering them powerless. We’re not there yet, but maybe soon.Halley on September 4, 2008 at 1:06 PM
sorry for my Palin post. I posted before watching the video. I just assumed it was all about Palin, but it was about media bias. Yeah, they are rooting for Obama. Sorry for the previous off topic post.

You would have to be a complete idiot to not see how the media fawns over Obama. I know people who do not even like Republicans who admit this is true. It is that obvious.
I think their treatment of Sarah Palin was so over the top it was embarrassing to watch.

Newt has done a lot to disgust me lately, but over the last 2 days- his interview with a reporter at the convention, and his speech on C-Span to a group the next day, he has kicked an awful lot of butt. Stay on ‘em, Newt.
tomk59 on September 4, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Agreed. We are way past fawning and embarrassing. Voight’s tone was much more to the point. We are on our way to media control without a huge pushback. “The Internets” have arrived just in time to expose this.

Hillary used to wear dresses in public, but she was subjected to a lot of criticism and nasty jokes because she has very thick legs and ankles — she carries all her weight in the lower portion of her body. I believe that’s why she switched to all pants, all the time.
Do you mean the older lady? That was Phyllis Schafly.
AZCoyote on September 4, 2008 at 1:11 PM
Yes, they’ve gone way too far this time.
Biden even felt the need to scold them. That should be a clue to the media that they’re completely out of control.

Hey, maybe they can arrange Palin’s first appearance on cable news for tomorrow evening opposite Bill O’Reilly’s big Obama interview! That would be fantastic. I wonder if BOR, who normally enjoys far and away the best ratings in his time slot, would come in second if that happened? What a statement that would make! Who’s in BOR’s time slot at CNN?

Thank you for mentioning Roger Simon! I was thinking for a while that I was the only one about to lose my mind reading what he had written. Now Ben Smith (also at Politico…imagine that) is praising Roger’s piece as hilarious. These people are disgusting! How is the VERY real concern of sexism and attacks on young children “mock outrage”?!? I hope everyone, in comment and e-mail form, sends them a piece of their mind. Politico is just another radical leftist site shilling for Obama!

So far, all the women I’ve talked to (aside from one femi-nazi) have all been highly impressed with Senator Palin. These are educated, hard-working moms and they are impressed.

The RNC operatives need to slightly switch tactics to this:
“If the mainstream media really believe that it is their solemn duty to attack Sarah’s family and personal life- then we welcome the challenge. We will let the American people decide if journalists are the rightful arbiters of average American family values.”
FiveWays on September 4, 2008 at 1:25 PM
Hot Air had a link to the LA Times trash-piece written by Gloria Steinem. I went and read it, and saw there were no comments yet, so I left one, disagreeing with them (they hate Sarah, believe it or not.)
Their website says they will decide if the post is “worth” posting, and will let you know soon. An hour or so later, there were still no comments showing. So I left a second one. In both I was very careful not to “offend” them, or “Ms.” Steinem.
A few minutes ago, I went to check again. They’ve completely taken the comments section out. It’s just gone.
I guarantee you, the reason is they got post after post “disagreeing” with Gloria, and they just can’t handle real debate. The cowards.
They’re not only losing, they’re helping us to win.

Hahahahaha. I just sent this comment to JMart at Politico regarding his being upset about the broken teleprompter story:
Soooooooo, JMart is outraged that a false pro-Palin story is out there and might get some media traction? LOL Where was his outrage when the MSM ran with stories like Palin is actually a grandmother, Palin took money from a teen pregnancy program, Palin took money from a special needs program, Palin had an affair, and on and on and on?!? ALL of these stories have been shown to be false, yet I didn’t see JMart’s outrage regarding any of these! Politico is VERY rapidly losing any credibility that they might have ever had. Plus, other news sources have validated the broken teleprompter as well…
http://media.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTdmN2ZhMGM5NjM4YzA0Nzg5MWNiMTA4ZjYxMTE1ZmI=
Then I received this e-mail response from him:
I must have missed the mainstream news orgs that “ran with” any of these stories.
Are you kidding me, JMart?!? Soledad O’Brien just this morning made the claim that Palin took money from special needs kids. I’m willing to forward the e-mail to anyone who is interested in proof. davenp35@hotmail.com

Weebork on September 4, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Like I said in the comments here before, McCain gave the media some rope by letting them get out ahead of his campaign in defining Palin and they hung themselves with it. Their credibility for the rest of the election is dimished by their unfair treatment of her.
I think McCain’s got his own Karl Rove and we just don’t know his name yet.
Woody on September 4, 2008 at 1:35 PM
I find it hard to hate these people any more, people like KO, CM, and the rest. After a lot of thought, I have to pity them. What kind of empty lives they must lead that this is the best kind of nonsense they can come up with? Even our resident trolls, Rywall, Alphie, and J Gocht; how sad that they waste so much time and energy hating what is good and right (expect immediate denials on all their parts that this is so, but their postings tell a different story). I have no more time for hate, but they have my pity.

Speaking of Politico, I found this minor dust-up in a story about the media swooning over Palin’s speech interesting:

A strongly partisan press is a healthy press. The press, particularly the print media, should put forward strong opinions on the OPED page. It becomes incumbent on the educated citizen to read multiple sources. In large measure the partisan press has moved to the internet.
What we have today is not a partisan press, but a Party press. The MSM views itself as an integral part of the Democratic Party. The MSM now fills the role that Pravada, Izvestia and TASS filled in the old USSR. It is merely a propaganda instrument for the Democratic National Committee.

I was never committed to McCain (although I would never have voted for BO!) until Palin joined the ticket. On Friday I donated money directly to their campaign and after last night I will be writing an even bigger check to the RNC. Don’t these liberal pundits get it yet? She has re-energized the base. The conservative base which is the support McCain had desperately lacked before.
trader67 on September 4, 2008 at 1:42 PM
It may well be John S. McCain himself.
Five years in solitary confinement, he had all the time in the world to think through every predicament conceivable and imaginable.
Give credit where credit is due.
And morons, don’t twist that to think that I see no faults in McCain.
maverick muse on September 4, 2008 at 1:42 PM
It sure seems as though the Oberlman’s of this MSM community were probably soiling themselves last night after spending the last several days trying to convince us that she was nothing but small town Alaskan trailer trash.

Bill O’Reilly is on the FOX network – a couple times each night. I’m just wondering what kind of arrangement Bill and BO made. Does BO get to know the questions beforehand?
CrazyFool on September 4, 2008 at 1:59 PM
I have a feeling Bill is going to be VERY weak with Obama. That’s how he gets guests he really wants.
davenp35 on September 4, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Of course BO gets to know the questions before hand. He would never do an interview with Fox unless they promised not to ask any questions about Wright, Ayres, Dohrn, Rezko and all the other militants he hangs out with. It would be great if Bill just went a head and slipped at least one in.
church on September 4, 2008 at 2:03 PM
Hopefully the MSM bias isn’t too much for McCain and Palin to overcome, but I fear the enormous effort may win it for BHO. No matter what happens I think this cycle is the MSM’s last hurrah unless they make drastic and sweeping changes.
As for whoever said they pity people like KO and the libshills, I agree 100%. Our kids will read of Bush and Petraeus and how the surge won the Iraq war in their history classes as they grow up. McCain deserves credit from everyone as being right early, often and loudly about how to win. The other ticket has two guys who absolutely could not have been more wrong and will be on the wrong side of history forever. I’m not going to bother arguing with BHO supporters. Anyone who follows the issues and still wants BHO isn’t worth the time and aggravation.
People who are undecided, however, are a different story! Having facts on our side is a wonderful thing!

O’Reilly suck-ed and groveled and uriah-heeped his way to a Hillary interview and is still bragging about it. He would swallow goat droppings for an Obama slot. Obama has far more to fear from a Hannity than from the star-struck, ratings-obsessed O’Reilly.
