CBS poll: McCain now tied with Obama — after trailing by eight points three days ago

A 48/40 lead after the convention turns quickly to dust. Better still, the new poll was conducted from Monday to Wednesday, so her speech hasn’t fully impacted yet.

No crosstabs yet, but note well the trends in enthusiasm. Dude, I think she might be … The One.

McCain has also closed the enthusiasm gap some with Obama, but it still exists. Fifty-five percent of Obama’s supporters are enthusiastic about their choice, and now so are 35% of McCain’s. Last weekend, just 25 percent of McCain’s supporters were enthusiastic about him, compared to 67 of Obama’s supporters…

Independents in this poll are divided. In the poll conducted over the weekend, Obama had a six-point advantage with this group, but now the lead is three points, 39 percent to 36 percent.

The poll also shows that the majority of Clinton supporters continue to support Obama – 67 percent in this poll, up from 58 percent last weekend.

McCain has seen a similar uptick from white evangelicals since the weekend – 66 percent now, up from 57 percent.

The base solidifies, Hillary voters come home, and it’s a duel to the death for independents. I like these odds, as much as anyone constitutionally incapable of believing in victory can. (We’re still down seven in Gallup!) Kaus offers the Democrats some good advice on Palin going forward; read it and ponder while I go turn the dial of my pessimism meter up from level seven to level eight, i.e. resigned to heart-ache but now hoping for a smaller than expected margin of defeat. Exit question: When does the first creepy cultish poster of Palin emerge?

I bow to your brilliance, that is exactly what I was hoping for.
The rack on Obama is a classic.
Allah, pick that up, I want to see that leading a post.
I am now sending this to 100 of my closest friends.
Thank you, thank you.
Now a title…The hunt is on…Obama in season…Palin’s looking for you…
and a good one on his bro…but the rack is classic.

1st creepy poster: it did, a week ago… Sarah McCain – Limerick on September 4, 2008 at 6:25 PM

Pish posh. Not even close. At most, hunters and most gun owners will chuckle and move on. Unlike Obama’s mindless minions, we have lives to live.

Soon enough.

Always look under the covers to find out who’s really there.

Previous CBS poll (Weighted):
Republicans – 229
Democrats – 308
Independents – 337

Current CBS poll (Weighted):
Republicans – 215
Democrats – 241
Independents – 235

I looked up “Community Organizer” on wikipedia. it said

The examples and perspective in this article or section may not represent a worldwide view of the subject.
Please improve this article or discuss the issue on the talk page.

Community organizing is an entry-level job into the corrupt political machines that tend to dominate politics on a municipal or regional level. Through community organizing, novice pre-politicians gain experience in keeping people helpless and paranoid. Only by proving themselves through top-notch community organizing can these wanna-be politicians gain access to more lucrative opportunities such as sitting on boards to distribute other people’s money to political allies. The best community organizers are given opportunities to run for office, where their prime responsibility is to compliantly do the bidding of the party bosses.

Really. Don’t know if it’s still there, but I snorted my rootbeer.

Better still, the new poll was conducted from Monday to Wednesday, so her speech hasn’t fully impacted yet.

Given how late the speech was, there’s a good chance the poll was closed before the speech started, much less finished.

Let’s see:

* Obama’s tax policies?
* Obama’s energy plans? (Small cars and wait for wind/inflate)
* Obama’s policies on defense (or rather, lack thereof)?

I’m sure others could suggest more.

tomas on September 4, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Because Bob Barr is a gullible fool?

Karl on September 4, 2008 at 7:15 PM

NO why McCain…not what is bad about others. I’m just interested to see if I know him as well as i think

tomas on September 4, 2008 at 7:16 PM

This’ll be short and inconcise as I’m in the process of leaving… but until recently “to keep Obama out” was more than enough for me. Obama is that much of a threat.

That, and third parties don’t work.

Hopefully someone will answer in better detail than I have time for.

See ya tomorrow HotAir.

One of the advantages we have over our opponents is that we truly area big tent. It’s the reason I can go read Ace followed by GayPatriot and the Evangelical Outpost. I defy you to find that kind of diversity among the Dems.

So in this instance I think that Allah is performing us a service. He is right that we should be happy but not turn Sarah into a cult figure. Sarah is human and a politician and is therefore guaranteed to fail us or disappoint. If we bear that in mind it will mean irritable grumbling rather than collective wrist slashing when Sarah says something like “Atheists are pretentious whiners who are all really Jesus lovers in their heart” or “Mike Huckabee gives me diarrea and I’d like to beat him senseless” or “I supported Senator McCain’s heartfelt efforts at illegal immigrant amnesty.”

Iron sharpens iron. We need to be a team, listening to each other, despite our different views.

Thank you AP, though I do agree with the suggestion that you should change your name to Eeyorepundit on Nov 5th :)

No…i think I know the guy and I know I’m a homer and I even supported him during the immigration stuff…I wan’t to know if I have perspective after last nights speech. Tell me why again so I can focus better on his speech…thanks.

tomas on September 4, 2008 at 7:29 PM

Tomas,

How about he was for the surge and that has worked.
How about he wants to end earmarks and the corruption that goes with it.
How about he will not let Bush’s tax cuts not expire.
How about he wants to go after Islamic terrorists.
How about selecting some constitutional judges for the SCOTUS.

Anyone else got anything?
