Video: Gingrich rips the media for belittling Palin’s achievements

Something to start the day off right, like a video version of a hearty breakfast. Jonah Goldberg’s correct that the talking point about leading the Alaska National Guard sounds lame, and to the extent Newt means Palin showed guts in taking on an incumbent governor, Barry O surely showed some too in challenging the Clinton machine that ruled the party as of last year. Righteous stuff otherwise, though. I only wish he’d thought to call out The One’s charming habit of demeaning Palin by referring to her as the mayor of Wasilla instead of the governor of Alaska. Perhaps she’ll return the compliment tonight by addressing him as the state senator from Chicago.
Color me shocked, too, that our modern-day Murrow didn’t seize the opportunity provided by the satellite hook-up to take Gingrich on. Exit question: Palin’s speech is only 13 and a half hours away. What time should we start drinking?

One could only imagine the beauty that would ensue if Overbite had not been a pansy and asked the questions himself.
Newt would have owned him.

“not going to argue the case”
The very question you asked was “arguing the case.”
You meant “I will stop arguing the case.”

You know Republican Palin defenders like Gingrich are always talking about how Sarah beat Republican Murkowski for the nomination for Governor. They often neglect that she defeated an even larger Political Monster in former two-term Dem Governor Tony Knowles.
Anyone who is from Alaska, or has spent any time there, knows that Knowles is about as big a figure in AK politics as you can get.
I was there on election night at Sarah’s function in downtown Anchorage. We all thought she might not win. Knowles had a strong closing. The final two days Palin and her supporters were on ever street corner in Anchorage waving signs not stop. And the Libertarian Party of Alaska backed her. Their gubernatorial candidate Billy Toien, who had become friends with Sarah during their debates, and despised Knowles, told all his supporters to not vote for him, but rather “vote for Sarah.”
She beat Knowles by about 5%.
I don’t know why everyone keeps talking about how she beat Murkowski. Yeah, that’s big. But beating Tony Knowles was HUGE!!

Boo-ya! Other than run for office, campaign, and be a “community activist”, Barry hasn’t really accomplished anything tangible. I bet Olby dang near lost his erection after Newt finished up…

I’m glad for one thing that Gingrich did: He didn’t just say, “well, how much experience does Obama have?” That line of questioning misses the point. He actually listed off her accolades and credentials, making the case for her to take the VP job. Regardless of where Obama stands, the question is whether or not Palin is qualified for the job. Obama has nothing to do with Palin’s qualifications or lack thereof (depending on your perspective.) My toddler may be more qualified to go to kindergarten than a newborn, but that doesn’t mean he’s qualified.
Send_Me on September 3, 2008 at 3:48 PM
Unfortunately, that’s doubtful. Olby probably had some pictures of The One in performance of his “Community Organizing” stashed in the back somewhere with his pictures of Marx and Trotski.

Newt: “Tell me one thing Barack Obama has done.”
Reporter dude: “I’m going to leave it there, thanks very much.”
Translation: Nothing.

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this yet, but I definitely think, “Back to you, Keith!” should become part of our lexicon, representative of a liberal getting his ass OWNED by a conservative.
capitalist piglet on September 3, 2008 at 4:20 PM
That look on the reporter’s face when he says, “Back to you Keith” should be on a poster………… anyone with a winning catch phrase?
Seven Percent Solution on September 3, 2008 at 4:23 PM
Newt is the man! I’ve watched him defending Palin and trouncing on Obama at the same time the past several days and find myself becoming more and more impressed with him. No one can win a debate with him because he just knows more and has more political experience and clout than just about anyone else out there. I miss the days when he was running the show in congress! You know, back when we had an actual functioning house and senate that did their jobs and worked for the American people.

cat got your tounge there buddy? I’m not going to argue my a$*, he couldn’t argue his way out of a paper bag on that one. She rocks. I’m fired up. Too bad my TV’s still out of commission from Gutav. Will have to watch online.

Assumes that he has steely ones…alas, they’re ping pong balls.
Entelechy on September 3, 2008 at 6:50 PM
Worth watching again and again.
JellyToast on September 3, 2008 at 6:51 PM
You must admit, this rocks. Newt was an early Palin supporter, months ago. He might have been the one that put her over the top. The digs at Obama — priceless.
Paul-Cincy on September 3, 2008 at 7:01 PM
Palin will get 5 minute standing O. I can’t wait.
Paul-Cincy on September 3, 2008 at 7:03 PM
I got a fever and the only cure is more Sarah Palin.
Paul-Cincy on September 3, 2008 at 7:25 PM
Olby: “There were some openings there”
I think he’s correct. The opening is the entire list of achievements of Senator Obama. Prepare yourself… I think this conversation will closely resemble the debate between McCain and Obama. Senator Obama will not be on a teleprompter and I think there is a great opportunity for much humor.

Good idea! Count me in. If we can make a derogatory slang term out of Keith Oberlman’s name we’ve got something to be proud of.
He is an asshat extraordinaire, the court jester of the Nutroots. I really don’t have the proper vocabulary to express the depth of my derision for that douchebag…
Oh, my bad. Apologies to Summer’s Eve for disparaging their products like that.

BHO: My acomplishments?
I,,er,,was quite active,,er,um, in my home state of Illinios,,uh,,fighting for change,,womens er rights,, um and polishing my halo.
Chris: OMG!!! The heavens have descended down upon us in the form of holy verbal manna and it’s…yes…a tingle in my leg again!!! Keith back to you.
KO: Senator Obama, Wow! Just wow! How could I… add… anything… to that celestial offering? Make me a instrument of your crusade!
hawkdriver on September 3, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Newt just ought to be The Enforcer for the McCain/Palin campaign. Every time one of these dirt bags tries to spread their slime and hypocrisy deploy Newt to offer up a beat down of epic proportions.
SimplyKimberly on September 3, 2008 at 8:04 PM
As Sean Hannity would say….
Check mate.

Gwillie on September 3, 2008 at 8:35 PM
Home run for Newt. Well played sir. That’s what all potential targets of MSNBC need to do, throw it right back into their smug face.
Hog Wild on September 3, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Bravo, I want MORE just like this!!! Newt hit this guy between the eyes…left him speechless.
joeyb1955 on September 3, 2008 at 10:03 PM
“I’d like you to name me one think Obama has done on that level, and by the way, here is a sling with your backside in it.”
LOSER!

BACK TO YOU, KEITH.
Sir Loin on September 4, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Sir L: I thought I was so clever, and was going to type: BACK TO YOU KEITH. Sorry I was too late. Don’t worry, I’ll think of something, provided nobody beats me to it.
TimothyJ on September 4, 2008 at 12:45 PM
These media attacks are absurd. Palin has as much experience as Bush did before he ran for President, and Bush was clearly prepared when he entered the White House. The results speak for themselves.
