Video: Gingrich rips the media for belittling Palin’s achievements

posted at 8:23 am on September 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

Something to start the day off right, like a video version of a hearty breakfast. Jonah Goldberg’s correct that the talking point about leading the Alaska National Guard sounds lame, and to the extent Newt means Palin showed guts in taking on an incumbent governor, Barry O surely showed some too in challenging the Clinton machine that ruled the party as of last year. Righteous stuff otherwise, though. I only wish he’d thought to call out The One’s charming habit of demeaning Palin by referring to her as the mayor of Wasilla instead of the governor of Alaska. Perhaps she’ll return the compliment tonight by addressing him as the state senator from Chicago.

Color me shocked, too, that our modern-day Murrow didn’t seize the opportunity provided by the satellite hook-up to take Gingrich on. Exit question: Palin’s speech is only 13 and a half hours away. What time should we start drinking?

Slam dunk for Gingrich

theguardianii on September 3, 2008 at 8:28 AM

Olberdouche had to go to station break to change his pants. Make that into an ad and bang it for two months.

Captain Hate on September 3, 2008 at 8:28 AM

Newt gave that reporter a schoolin’. Go Newt!

txsurveyor on September 3, 2008 at 8:28 AM

Go Newt! They have no answers so they just ignore the questions. WTF?

ctmom on September 3, 2008 at 8:29 AM

Wow, Newt really handed the MSM their collective asses with one brief interview. You would think those idiots would know better than to ask Newt an open ended question.

This is why I wish that Newt had run.

orlandocajun on September 3, 2008 at 8:29 AM

What time should we start drinking?

Start the day with Irish coffee. Then progress to Bloody Marys at lunch and Martinis in the afternoon. Skip supper and switch to straight Scotch starting at 8 PM. Five or six Tequila shooters for a nightcap.

ManlyRash on September 3, 2008 at 8:30 AM

Color me shocked, too, that our modern-day Murrow didn’t seize the opportunity provided by the satellite hook-up to take Gingrich on.

They were heading for commercial and Olby did smile wryly as he said “there were some openings there” from Gingrich. I’d like to see what happened after the break.

Tuning Spork on September 3, 2008 at 8:31 AM

Bravo Newt . . . kick them in the groin. Those brain dead journalists need to be put down hard more often. Even old Olberdouche was at a loss for words.

rplat on September 3, 2008 at 8:31 AM

The media never question whether Obambi is ready to be President because of course he is not.

If the Obama-media nexus gets Obama elected, he’s their President, not mine.

NoDonkey on September 3, 2008 at 8:31 AM

What did the idiot Olbermann do with the openings left by Newt?

ctmom on September 3, 2008 at 8:31 AM

Listening to NPR this morning and it is amazing just how much they’re in the tank for The Obamassiah and downplaying Palin. Even Juan Williams is spinning troopergate (can we get rid of the -gates) as stemming from, and I quote, “a spat between Sarah’s sister and the trooper.”
Most of the women they interviewed about Gov. Palin were at least skeptical about her. Totally unlike their fawningness over the Democratic convention.

This is why I stopped supporting NPR years ago.

rbj on September 3, 2008 at 8:32 AM

How weird for MSNBC to have their anchor for the convention in NYC while it’s taking place in St. Paul. Just strengthens the “weird neighbor who has to be kept at a distance from the kids” perception of Olbermann.

Marcus on September 3, 2008 at 8:32 AM

NEWT, to quote the village idiot, watching that, I felt a thrill running down my leg!!!!!!

What a great way to start the day! I guess I would have seen that last night had I not re-wired my cable box to elimnate NBC and MSNBC forever from live viewing……

About time someone calls out the Chosen One for the fraud he is….this should become the mantra: NAME ONE THING! NAME ONE THING! NAME ONE THING!

What! No little quip, no little dig, not even a little smart ass comment. Olbermann, was not only moved away from the RNC but I think MSNBC put his balls in Hillary’s lock box.

CFL on September 3, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Typical. They have Newt on live and decline to take him on. And then, Olbermann apparently came back after the break and after Newt was gone to address “openings provided by the Speaker”. Keith is a wuss.

forest on September 3, 2008 at 8:36 AM

These people HATE Sarah Palin. They don’t understand her. They don’t know her. They haven’t spent time with her in the Hamptons. They want to destroy her. Facts are irrelevant. As Hannity says, “journalism is dead”.

D0WNT0WN on September 3, 2008 at 8:36 AM

Did you notice Brokaw last night? He looked at sounded like he was very drunk. We were amazed, we kept watching as he slurred his word, infringed on the other commentator’s space and sat with his head down and away from the camera. Is he always like that?

obladioblada on September 3, 2008 at 8:37 AM

Bout time! This is how we need to attack the leftist Machine. Everyone needs to take a page out of Newt’s handbook on how to hand the left’s its a$$.

Good Job the Newt Master!

Mercy4Me on September 3, 2008 at 8:37 AM

There were some openings. . .

Yeah, more like some loops on a knitted sweater that are slightly large than the others, that KO will try to pull on, to make the thing unravel. The real opening however, was the gaping new one that Gingrich ripped for that reporter.

Exit question: Will KO answer the question that the reporter couldn’t?

The Democrats remind me of small children on a playground. Because of their immature intellect they are forced to compensate with extremely loud verbosity. At first I thought that Obama was the only empty vessel, but now I am convinced that their entire party along with their media enablers are completely without substance and class.

rplat on September 3, 2008 at 8:41 AM

Ah, you can’t think of everything on the fly like that, Allah. Bit by bit we can get the message out, though.

Off to work I go!

Bob's Kid on September 3, 2008 at 8:42 AM

Get ‘em Newt!

Never in my years of being engaged in politics have I been this enraged at the media (and the Dems). Team Obama are going to pretend to take the high road, but they’re going to stand idly by as the media destroys Palin.

I think I am about to rupture an aneurysm. Please excuse me as I take some Aspirin.

eaglescout1998 on September 3, 2008 at 8:43 AM

Actually, I want the media to keep dogging her on the experience question. I want them to keep pounding away on her lack of national defense & foreign policy experience. Because in those regards she is MORE prepared than Barak Obama, even if she cannot match the depth of background of her boss, John McCain.

Oh yeah, and keep the double-standard smearing ing of her personal life going as well, NBC (et al). Just look at how well the Hillary thing worked out for you. Your boy beat her, but at what cost?

Shy Guy on September 3, 2008 at 8:44 AM

The main thing that Sarah has that the left cannot deal with is her integrity. It is a concept that they cannot comprehend. Newt demonstrated how weak the attack on Palin really is when it is not being presented with hate and rage. The people will be the winners if the truth is known.

volsense on September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM

“To deal with these challenges the Democrats present a history making nominee for president.

History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for President. Apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making, Democrat controlled Congress. History making because it’s the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation’s history”…..Fred Thompson

While the media bias is in full throttle with slander and vile attacks on Governor Palin, (a woman who has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined), the Democrats may want to return to Denver to find another candidate who can shovel snow and field dress a moose. The only thing Obama is shoveling is the dirt in the grave the DNC and the media has dug for him. When Sarah Palin finishes her speech tonight, all that will be needed for the Democratic Party is a proper headstone.

Rovin on September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: McCain’s not my favorite pick by a long shot, but either of the people on this GOP tickets has more balls than the Donk’s ticket’s candidates combined.

Here’s to hoping that Palin field-strips Biden, Obama, and the MSM. Something tells me she can…

ErikTheRed on September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM

I believe Bush the elder won his first election for president when he asked (I think it was Dan Rather) if Dan would like to have be remembered by the time he stormed off the set because he was upset about having a sports event cut into his segment. Dan was giving Bush a hard time over some inconsequential thing at the time.

MarkTheGreat on September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM

Barry O surely showed some too in challenging the Clinton machine that ruled the party as of last year.

Without the media burying the Wright incident until after Super Tuesday, we would no longer be speaking about Mr. Obama.

Hence, my 8:41 post.

I love it though when someone asks the questioner to quote just one thing Obama has done. The look of confusion on their face is astounding.

BacaDog on September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM

What’s sad is that this is an easy response and should have been the answer of every Republican analyst over the past several days as this question has been asked over and over and over again. Yes, Newt delivered it devastatingly well, but it’s not like it’s rocket science to point out that there’s a world of difference between actually doing stuff and just talking and writing about doing stuff.

I agree that the Alaska Nat’l Guard stuff is lameo, but repeatedly standing up to her own party is not lame. It shows great skill and determination to unseat MULTIPLE entrenched political enemies. Obama’s challenge of the Clinton machine is not equivalent. Remember, the Clintons have been on the outs in the party ever since Howard Dean took over and Kos announced that he owned the party. That nomination race was an open one. Yes, Obama took “guts” to run for president, and yes, he defeated a formidable opponent, but it’s not the same as the feats Palin accomplished in Alaskah. It would have been different had Obama challenged a sitting president.

What do liberals believe? They believe that a woman is more than just being a mom at home. It’s what they say they believe. They believe that a woman is every bit as qualified to hold public office as a man. They believe that premarital sex and sex by teenagers is normal, natural, and we shouldn’t try to stop it because we can’t stop it, they’re going to have sex. They want to deal with it by having sex education in the schools. Liberals say they believe that a woman should have a choice over whether she kills her baby or not, and liberals believe it’s nobody’s business to question that choice. Correct?

Okay, now, that’s what they say they believe. But now here they are pretending that they actually believe the following in order to get elected by tearing down Governor Palin and her family. I just went through with you what they believe. Here’s what they are pretending they actually believe, that a woman cannot responsibly be more than a mother in her home, she can’t do both, women can’t do both, according to the new priests and priestesses of liberalism, she can’t work outside the home and be a mother. They’re pretending to believe that a mother, Sarah Palin, who is a mother of small children, must not hold public office and must step aside so that a man, Obama, who is a father of small children, can hold higher office. They think a woman, “Get out of the way. This is Barry’s turn. We’re in the Beltway class. You’re getting in our way. You shouldn’t be running for office.”

They are pretending to believe that premarital sex by a teenager — Palin’s daughter — is terrible, awful, and indeed so horrible the mother must be hounded off the national stage, while they tell everybody else that premarital sex is wonderful, there’s love involved, we should give them condoms. We certainly shouldn’t try to stop it because we can’t stop it. But now it’s all of a sudden they’re pretending they think it’s horrible. Liberals are pretending that a woman, Palin’s daughter, should have had the abortion. And here liberals are now pretending that a woman, Sarah Palin, should have had the abortion, given her Down syndrome fetus. And liberals are pretending that it is in the national interest and the common good to denounce both of these women for their choices, to give birth and to give birth and to work outside the home and to get married and to raise a family. Liberals are trying to make us believe they believe this, and all of this is to serve their religion. Their religion is getting elected. The major sacrament to the religion of liberalism is abortion. (RL)

And now we have O’Reilly being conned by Obama into interviewing him right before McCain’s speech tomorrow night. Of course, I say conned, but considering O’Reilly has been unwilling to pursue anything against Obama since the Wright story broke…maybe he does support The One. And I can say this because he has received emails about the Annenberg links with Ayers and recently said he hadn’t heard about it but would look into it. How do I know he got these emails? Because I sent them. And he just “had” to repeat the story from the Kos about Palin. Yeah sure Bill…it’s all about ratings. Any takers on bets that O’Reilly asks mostly softball questions of The One?

With any luck no one will watch since the NFL opener is on at the same time.

Deanna on September 3, 2008 at 9:11 AM

Let me tell you all why I’m more optimistic than ever this morning.

Newt’s effective response was passionate, it wasn’t however random. It was calculated. Scanning around the broadcast and print media this morning and I’m seeing the very same talking points.

But what’s really got me excited today? This; I picked up my small-town CENTRAL ILLINOIS newspaper this morning. This rag has been in the tank for ChicagObama since day one. But what do I read? An editorial written by the dominantly Left-leaning editorial staff that concluded, all the attacks on Palin thus far have been- IRRELEVANT. With the minor exception of troopergate which they downplayed. And they ended the article with a very salient question: Just WHICH Party really represents “Change” here?

Then, looking over the reader responses- I NOTED A CLEAR BACK-LASH AGAINST THE MEDIA CRITICISMS AGAINST PALIN.

Mark my words folks, the media is completely over-playing their hand here, in a fit of undisciplined over-emotional panic. Two months is a looooong time. It’s plenty of time for mainstream America to get more than just a little fed up with Palin-hatred from a section of society that is loathed even more than used-car salesmen and trial attorneys: journalist!

If Sarah Palin is smart tonight, she will turn the “inexperience” criticism right back on to Obama. There is nothing more effective than turning an attack into a coordinated counter-attack, with the full support of oft-repeating Party leaders hammering the point home in every single interview. And we’re starting to see that today.

I don’t care what the polls say. I recognized the distinct signs of a slumbering average-American giant starting to rouse. And that giant doesn’t share the “hate America” views that have been fostered by the Democrats.

If you don’t think the Dem strategists are nervous: then I know a Chicago Church you can attend that is real mainstream America….it was headed by one Rev Wright…….

AP,

Your girl KP was on Hannity yesterday (radio-2nd hour) and was on fire. Worth a post IMO.

They have no answers so they just ignore the questions.

Hey, everybody, the reason the Left “hates” Sarah Palin is because it provides them an excuse to not discuss Barack Obama (OR, Joe Biden — has ANYone even heard so much as a pip from or about Biden — mention his name to anyone on the Left, watch the air quickly die).

Same with all this hyperbole about “vetting” Palin — the Left refuses to vet Obama — if they even began to answer any questions about Obama, they’d have to actually think about who the man is (or is not, given that he persists in remaining entirely undocumented and strangely vague on his identity, among other key things).

As long as the Left can hyperventilate about Sarah Palin, they don’t have to answer any questions (so they’re hoping) or even talk about Barack Obama. THAT’s why Palin’s being attacked as she is.

Go ahead, go to any Left website and pose a question to any Obama supporter. See the air die and the attacks on Palin begin. Attacking Palin is the Left’s attempt to not discuss (or examine) (or “vet”) Barack Obama.

And Gingrich, I’m thinking, has similar conclusions.

Gingrich is too smart for the Left, so is Karl Rove. Thank God for both these guys.

O’Reilly Jumps in the Tank

Factor Exclusive- Billy O’Reilly give Obama a forum for the “political malpractice” that his campaign condemns.

Yup. Same ‘ol Chicago Politics- level baseless and preemptive charges at your opponent for tactics that you plan to engage in. I am sure that Olbermann will be proud of Bill O for the first time in his adult life.

Last night between commercials I looked at MSNBC to see Tom Brokaw and their political guru talking and I also wondered if “over the hill Brokaw” was indeed drunk or suffering from a bad case of halitosis. The other guy was leaning away from him as we all have done when we have to listen to someone with bad breath. I believe that NBC has dental insurance, so am left to believe it is warm up cocktails for the “over the hill Brokaw”.

“Her resume is not something that we see with Presidential Candidates?” Excuse me, the last two Presidents who both served two terms were previously Govenors of States, NOT Senators of States. Dumb A$$!!

PappaMac on September 3, 2008 at 8:52 AM
