New Palin smear: She “slashed” funding for pregnant teens by, um, expanding it

Daily Kos up to no good again? Nah — this one comes from WaPo, doing the hard work of ignoring primary sources that are reproduced right in the piece. The boss, Laura W., and Anchor Rising did the heavy lifting so read them for the details; if you think expanding a program by $3.9 million instead of $5 million counts as cutting funds, you’re qualified to work for one of America’s most esteemed newspapers. The point, of course, is to use the left’s eternal fig leaf for demonizing Republicans, i.e. hypocrisy, to argue that Palin is callous about the plight of girls in the same position as her daughter. It can’t be that she wanted to save taxpayers money and thought the program could work with a million dollars less. Only the Cruella de Vil narrative’ll do. In fact, I’m surprised WaPo focused on Covenant House’s services for pregnant girls when its actual mission extends to all wayward teens, a much larger group for Palin to hate on by not showering cash on it to quite the full extent deemed necessary by our progressive superiors.

That’s not the only big media Palin smear circulating right now, either. Exit question: Which is more nuanced, the Covenant House nonsense or the fact that the NYT reporter who pushed the story about Palin being a member of the Alaska secessionist party is still standing by it even though the Times itself has now retracted it? (On its blog, of course, not in the paper itself.)

Update: “It’s never big enough for some lawmakers, it’s never big enough for some local officials.”

in the world of the liberal government-speak he’s right. this just shows how badly we need someone like sarah in power.

this is the same line the dems used against reagan in the 80s…we have to break the idea that government spending equals compassion.

To be fair, to Democrats if they propose expanding a program by 10% and Republicans only expand it by 8%, they consider that a cut.

All these smears coming from “The One” himself. US Weekly’s cover story trashing Sarah Palin – US Weekly’s publisher is a big Obama contributor. If BOR is honest, he should challenge “O” on this. Off limits & On for his buddies.

I thought I saw terror in the Left through the various forms and manifestations of Bush Derangement Syndrome. But this against Palin is way more intense. The MSM is pushing their engines at about 150% capacity to paint Palin as either the ultimate albatross around McCain’s neck or to get Palin to drop. Independent of my political leanings, which tend to be a bit less right than I suspect most readers here, I hope the media gets a few crows stuffed down their throat for this insanity. It’s not even unfair… it’s just sadistic.

Insanity. The media knows it can lie through its teeth and get away with it because all you need to do is put the idea out there.

Even when their lies are disproved, they know they reached more with their lie than were reached with the truth.

In spite of actually expanding funding, maybe she believes it best for families to take on some of the responsibility instead of having the government do it all. And in this case, again, she’s “walking the walk” liberal idiots shoot off their mouths.

I can’t wait to see how all this plays out tonight.

That’s just like “giving oil companies windfall profits”, which moron said that in a speech at the dems convention? They all said the same thing, I can’t remember.

It’s also like Obama-math, giving tax cuts to 95% of Americans, or families (they don’t even know). Of course this will be after letting the Bush tax cuts expire, so there will be less of a tax cut, but it makes a great headline or slogan. It also invloves increasing the ‘earned income credit’, so more people who don’t pay taxes can get a handout.

When the government takes less money away from you = giving you money!

pueblo1032 on September 3, 2008 at 12:38 PM

“New Palin smear: She “slashed” funding for pregnant teens by, um, expanding it”

Yeah it was slashed because some special interest lobbyist was quoted in the paper saying it should be higher than what it eventually became in the legislation passed. They have played that game ever since they started doing 5 year out projections and ramped that crap accusation up after the unified budget in, IIC, the 1970’s.

coldwarrior on September 3, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Totally agree. Their hair is turning white in panic, especially the Dems in the MSM. They’ve got nothing to counter this superb selection by McCain and it’s all down hill for Obama now. But if you think it is bad now wait until after Palin’s speech tonight. They’ll be pulling that white hair out tomorrow.

Hey! I think they might be on to something here. This could be fun!

Let’s expose something that Sarah Palin has done “wrong” every hour on the hour.

I’ll start: Last November while shopping at the local grocery store, Gov. Palin reached way into the back of the refrigerated milk section bypassing all the stale milk at the front of the display, in order to selfishly take the freshest milk for herself!!

That’s how the Republicans slashed Medicare — by raising less than earlier years’ budgets had projected.

This goes back to early Reagan. Future year projections had been based on the extreme inflation under Carter, and when that was finally under control by 1982, there were adjustments to the budget that came in below the high projections. Ergo, cuts!!!! Reagan was “hurling the homeless” onto the streets, as one critic said.

My gut tells me the arrogance of the Obama campaign is at the point that they have easily rationalized this line of attack against Palin simply because they feel the backlash was not that bad when they did it against Hillary. What they fail to recall is that Hillary’s best days were after Obama stuck his foot in his mouth with his bitter hick comments and after their rampant sexism.

The Left is killing themselves again. By the time Obama himself (and his tool Biden) get around to airing ther legitimate differences with Palin no one will listen because the soccer mom’s security mom’s and hockey mom’s will all be sick and tired of these men beating up on Palin.

I’ve seen this line of attack before. During Clinton’s first term, Billy Jeff asked for a 3.x% increase in some funding for children/school lunches ( I don’t remember the exact program). The House Dems wanted a 5.x% increase, while the GOP suggested a 4.x% increase. The media therefore trumpeted that the GOP was gutting and cutting a program and therefore wanted to starve children.

Just on a broader point, as the likes of race hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been out of fashion for some time and are fading into the background of irrelevance and oblivion, so too are the so-called “feminists”. Not only is the introduction of Sen Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for president the manifestation of the irrelevance of the race hustlers, regardless of if he wins or not, the rise of Sarah Palin, followed by the vehement reaction by leading sex hustlers, aka feminists, is a manifestation that they too are irrelevant. The more Sarah Palin remains as the GOP VP select, the more so-called feminists will oust themselves as the intellectual frauds they are.

Feminists have been crying for years of seeking equality of women not only in the workplace, but in the house as well. For many years, the feminists were justified in their calls of prevalent inequality between women and men. However, decades later, that inequality has all but been eliminated. Many feminist organizations, and infamous feminists themselves, would be unneeded in a world where there is no more sexism. They, ultimately, don’t seem to want this, because they perpetuate a false reality that the sexism is just as bad today as it was decades ago. They want to keep their day jobs.

With the introduction of Sarah Palin, the feminists publically and explicitly become irrelevant. Here is a woman who has reached high office and success without the feminists help. Moreover, she adheres to many principles and beliefs that modern feminism doesn’t derive from. She didn’t play the game, so she is accused of being a poor sport. Of course, “poor sport” is too lightly a word to use for the level of derision and hatred that has been directed at Sarah Palin. The game the feminists have been maintaining over the decades has been exposed as a fraud perpetuated by people who, like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton did with race, keep the lie going in order to profit from it.

So much have the sex hustlers been exposed as frauds with Sarah Palin, the longer time goes on, the more frantic and obscene their personal derision and hatred for her is unmasked. She must be destroyed, otherwise the sex hustlers are all doomed to the dustbins of history. They’ll have to go out and get real jobs and do real work. They’re reputations and jobs are on the line, so they are going to go as far as necessary to resecure their tenured positions. As the campaign solidifies, expect far worse accusations and slander towards Sarah Palin.

It’s going to get much worse. There is an entire industry to protect. Heaven forbid we should demand to clean up the intellectual corruptions engrained within our culture along with the corruption and incompetence that exists within government.

Weebork on September 3, 2008 at 1:00 PM

I dashed to Malkin’s blog briefly. I think this is worth offering up. Read it now, or print it (pages 2 and 3 on print preview) to read before Palin’s speech this evening. I think you’ll be glad you did.

http://www.firstthings.com/onthesquare/?p=1161

As you read it, if you’ve seen the min-series Band of Brothers, you might recall one of the later episodes (the one recounting the liberation of a death camp) is titled, “Why We Fight.” Think of that title as you read the piece.

Shifting gears, something about this election occurred to me months ago. We have as many as 1,000 World War II veterans dying a day now. Obama may have a historic candidacy, but he has nothing more. It’s Carter II or McGovern II, depending on your perspective.

At any rate, we should bear in mind that the Greatest Generation deserves to go out knowing the country is in good hands. They were called citizens soldiers. If it’s all the same, I’d prefer to assure them that the keys are in the hands of a war hero-experienced politician and a citizen governor rather than in the hands of a good talker and a professional politician.

You know what’s most bothersome about this enormous pile of BS the Democrats and MSM (points off for redundancy)? The fact that some of it will stick with voters. Even after retractions and “whoops, our bad” on everything, the stench will continue to hang around. Non-politically connected people (and that’s most people) will think that the constant plume of smoke indicates a blaze somewhere around Palin. This will not have a positive affect on the campaign.

I’ve known since I was little that the MSM was always in the tank for Democrats, but I swear that I don’t understand the level it has reached now. It’s like we’re talking a completely language. Last night, when McCain’s “I’d rather lose and election than lose a war” comment was mentioned, I will guarantee you that most MSM types saw his mouth moving, heard the sounds coming out, but they didn’t understand at all what McCain had said.

This is not the age to sit on the sidelines and watch while leftists take over the country. We all need to walk precincts, man phones, post on blogs all over, talk in church and at work and absolutely get out the vote for Republicans.

Palin was not responsible for the expansion. She did cut funds approved by the legislature.

barry norris on September 3, 2008 at 12:42 PM

Is she not the chief executive of the state? The funds were not approved until she gave the OK. Previous funds were at 1.2M. Only liberal math calls an increase from 1.2M to 3.9M a cut.

Next time liberals whine about Bush and deficits, be sure and remind them that the legislature approved the funds. Or is that only to be used against Republicans?

Who thinks Hillary is going to help Obama win? I think the Clintons will lay low and help McCain/Palin get elected. Hil probably doesn’t care if Palin is first V.P. because we all know Hil wants the #1 spot – top dog- President, maybe that’s why she didn’t accept BO’s offer of V.P. So, anyway, after McCain wins, Hil gets to make double history in 2008 by being in the first female/female Presidential race against Palin (since McCain might be a one termer). Always the optimist, Hil thinks she will easily win against Palin. Of course, this just speculation and my opinion.

…”if you think expanding a program by $3.9 million instead of $5 million counts as cutting funds, you’re qualified to work for one of America’s most esteemed newspapers.”

This is the same crap excrement playbook the Democrats and the MSM pulled when the Gingrich House attempted to scale down the yearly increases of government entitlements to balance the buget. The Dems and media screamed that the big bad Republicans were taking food out of the mouths of babys. (school lunch programs). Same old game.

I’m jazzed about listening to a woman who actually deals with life instead of “crying her eyelashes off” over a Barry speech like Oprah.

That’ reminds me…. got to make a beer run!

Just a thought,but a good one.

Covenant House is a Catholic run facility for boys and girls who are in need of help. If the State does not give money to them, the Catholic Church try’s to facilitate more. Also Covenant House is a 401(c)3 and gets grant money from various other places. Cutting funding to this organization is fine, but you can’t charge the Government or the State if a 401(c)3 gets money from private donations.

Isn’t Covenant House one of those Faith Based Thingies that the WaPo thinks we shouldn’t fund at all?

sweeper on September 3, 2008 at 1:18 PM

Thanks BuckeyeSam. Good article and good thoughts.

My dad (87) and I just finished writing his WWII memoirs. Nothing fancy. Just a MS Word document with scanned pictures. He wrote, I edited, and then off to Kinkos for copies for friends and family. The idea came from some cousins of mine I have not seen since childhood who encouraged my dad to write them because they wanted to know about it. It was a great experience for us both and I highly recommend it.

But Anchorage Democratic Rep. Mike Doogan said legislators were in “sort of your classic feeding frenzy” in putting the capital budget together.

“It’s smaller now that she’s done some vetoing, but I still think it’s too big,” Doogan said.

Hey isn’t this the douchebag that was slamming her in the other article over her “lack of experience”?

Covenant House is a Catholic run help based. it is actually a very good thing especially here in Alaska when you have teens AND children who run away from home due to abuse and it is -10 out. These kids have no where to run or hide and being out in the extreme weather doesn’t help. Also Covenant House helps them get on their feet, makes them get an education AND a job and shows them how to get through life in a determined amount of time.

I support Covenant House and give to them often.

Yep Cwac. I hate our Paper up here. The conservative paper was pushed out and now all we have is a California based rag.

Good Rudy clip. Brokaw was echoing the argument that Obama has experience because he’s been running for president (and getting a media pass) for 20 months. That’s beyond pathetic.

I want to see Rudy open up with both barrels tonight.

forest on September 3, 2008 at 1:25 PM

If Obama manages to steal the election with the inevitable ACORN aided/Chicago gangland/Philly stolen votes and with the media completely in the tank for him, he will NOT be a legitimate President.

As such, we need to destroy his Presidency. Do anything possible to disable his ability to enact his agenda.

We need to throw out his Democrat Congress in 2010 and then move to impeach him and remove him from office prior to 2012, because he will have committed high crimes by then.

I’m hoping McCain/Palin win, but if not, Republicans should refuse to work with an Obama administration. Nothing good will come from this corrupt clown.
