New Palin smear: She “slashed” funding for pregnant teens by, um, expanding it

posted at 12:23 pm on September 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

Daily Kos up to no good again? Nah — this one comes from WaPo, doing the hard work of ignoring primary sources that are reproduced right in the piece. The boss, Laura W., and Anchor Rising did the heavy lifting so read them for the details; if you think expanding a program by $3.9 million instead of $5 million counts as cutting funds, you’re qualified to work for one of America’s most esteemed newspapers. The point, of course, is to use the left’s eternal fig leaf for demonizing Republicans, i.e. hypocrisy, to argue that Palin is callous about the plight of girls in the same position as her daughter. It can’t be that she wanted to save taxpayers money and thought the program could work with a million dollars less. Only the Cruella de Vil narrative’ll do. In fact, I’m surprised WaPo focused on Covenant House’s services for pregnant girls when its actual mission extends to all wayward teens, a much larger group for Palin to hate on by not showering cash on it to quite the full extent deemed necessary by our progressive superiors.

That’s not the only big media Palin smear circulating right now, either. Exit question: Which is more nuanced, the Covenant House nonsense or the fact that the NYT reporter who pushed the story about Palin being a member of the Alaska secessionist party is still standing by it even though the Times itself has now retracted it? (On its blog, of course, not in the paper itself.)

Update: “It’s never big enough for some lawmakers, it’s never big enough for some local officials.”

Great smackdown of Brokaw by Rudy. Glad to see those guys rallying and getting tough with the self-inflated talking heads.

I’d like to see Team McCain show that Obama at DailyKos convention picture show up somewhere with a list of the smears they have put out.

The leftist media and the Congress less popular than the president they hate!

Me thinks this is a winning strategy run against both and the status quo which is 0bama/Biden!

You go girl!

But, that’s how politicians think, AP. Any reduction from the original requested amount is a “cut”, even if it is a new program that had no budget the previous year.

Geez, get with the program, man. /

These guys just keep coming straight at Palin, what they fail to see is the pungie pit McCain has dug in their path. I for one cant wait for the left wing media to fall in.

In a sane world the media might be looking into ACORN’s shenanigans, but hey, they have a 17 year old girl they need to harass.

I agree. It would look good on that huge screen they have set up – right after some screen caps of some of the most disgusting smears published at DKos.

They shouldn’t be shy about counter attacking.

You’re welcome, and good for you. I have plenty of military in the family, but no combat because the ages never seemed to match the wars. I do have an 82-year-old uncle who was sitting in the Philippines when the A-bombs were dropped. As a result, I was enraged every time I saw that Wright clip about our bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki “and we never batted an eye.” Truman agonized over those decisions, and, despite the loss of life, those two bombs saved countless Japanese and American lives and serve as a vivid reminder to stop short of those decisions unless their absolutely necessary. But, hey, he was Obama’s spiritual mentor, so Obama gets a pass.

Make sure you read the Noonan article.

The ends justify the means, remember? The media will just make stuff up out of thin air if they need to now. They all have each others back in this crusade. I’m pretty sure the ferocity is because they think they can trigger a bigger secondary story like Bristol’s suicide.

Where is this Rudy clip??????

Palin was not responsible for the expansion. She did cut funds approved by the legislature.

barry norris on September 3, 2008 at 12:42 PM

A 2.7 million increase she approved is not an expansion? What were your SAT scores?

barry norris on September 3, 2008 at 12:42 PM

Let’s do this in simple math…

The original funding for a program is set at $500.

There is a call to increase funding to $750.

The final increase in funding is set at $650.

$650 minus $500 = $150 increase.

No decrease at all from the original funding. Thus no cut.

Damn, 40 years of MEA-controlled public school education coming back to bite us in the butt.

coldwarrior on September 3, 2008 at 2:21 PM

MEA-controlled = NEA-controlled.

coldwarrior on September 3, 2008 at 2:23 PM

Talk about grasping for straws. The leftist are pathetic, and must be exposed. I read where someone said that Governer Palin has put the fear of God in the left. I think that sums it up. The liberal elite have their panties in a twist, and they have no idea what is really going on. They are watching a real American success story. This a true American dream, and the media can’t comprehend this.

Is “journalism” Latin for “I’m lousy at math”?

drjohn on September 3, 2008 at 2:41 PM

Apparently, the WaPo has frozen the comments for that bogus story so nobody can post anything disputing it.I’ve tried several times, though I wonder why I bother sometimes. I glanced over the comments that are there, and nobody seems to get the fact that funding for the program has actually skyrocketed.
