New McCain ad: “Alaska Maverick”

Surprisingly dull given the frenzy of Barracudamania, but then the point isn’t to build her up so much as it is to tear The One down. They’ve got a second contrast ad coming later today focusing on their comparative experience. The one virtue of having the media spin her as dangerously unqualified, of course, is that it leaves McCain wide open for ads like this, treating Barry to a little vicarious ridicule for his absurdly thin record. Something like 70 percent of voters say the VP candidates won’t affect their votes in November; if Palin is deemed too green to be trusted but some of that rubs off on Obama in the process, it may well be a worthy trade.
Exit question: Are Obama’s people actually coming after Palin on pork? After Captain Earmark tried to stuff his fat face with federal money last year and voted — together with Biden — not to shift the money for the bridge to nowhere to Katrina relief?

They need to subtly shift off of experience – that she has more experience is, I think, true, but it’s arguable – and start focusing on achievements. She has several notable ones as Alaska governor, Barry, of course, has none.
Except funneling public money to his convicted-felon-campaign-bundler/real-estate-agent.

As long as you don’t do something stupid or try to show off, the chances are much less likely. Most self-inflicted injuries from bladed weapons – at least in my experience – are the result of someone who isn’t trained using something improperly, or someone trying to be funny or show off.
But I’ll take the advice – can’t hurt to be cautious!

Not clear on why a grue would need a sword to begin with. Especially an Elvish one that glows blue around trolls and thieves.

To be fair, Barry’s also funneled tax dollars to his shrew of a wife and to more than one lunatic preacher, so he’s got that on his half-page resume.

And don’t forget Obama’s experience with wasting other people’s money goes way back. He and his buddy, terrorist and lefty radical Billy Ayers, squandered $160 Million of Walter Annenberg’s money (donated to help improve public education) on a bunch of idiotic Leftist education programs — and an independent study of Obama’s and Ayer’s efforts concluded that, despite all the tens of millions they spent, they accomplished absolutely nothing. Obama and Ayers spent years doling out grants to various lefty school programs, yet when they were finished there was no measureable improvement whatsoever in the Chicago public school system.
And this is the same Obama who wants to raise taxes so that he can make our massive federal government even bigger, so that Obama can institute even more idiotic government give-away programs that accomplish absolutely nothing (other than fostering even more government dependency), and all in the name of “social justice.”

J_Gocht, you need to go back to Daily Kos and get your next round of baseless rumors. That one has been debunked already.

Maverick no more…?
Has McCain dumped Palin…?
Say it ain’t so…!
“We are holding a convention that will nominate a Republican woman governor, Sarah Pawlenty, as our next Vice-President.”

I was referring to the InTrade site.

this ad also lowers barack obama down to the VP level.
venicesurfer on September 3, 2008 at 3:04 PM
“this ad also lowers barack obama down to the VP level.”
Barry’s not qualified to be the VP of a Peoria paint store, much less VPOTUS.
NoDonkey on September 3, 2008 at 3:06 PM
Palin is serving the major campaign role of the VP candidate- attack the opposing party’s presidential candidate.
The best thing is that the media and Obama have given her the perfect opening to do so by making it a counter punch instead of an unprovoked attack.
Sackett on September 3, 2008 at 3:08 PM
Perfect.. the trap is set, and working… People ARE comparing the bottom of our ticket with the top of the Dems ticket, and the closer they look, the clearer it’ll get.. Obama is a joke.
El_Terrible on September 3, 2008 at 3:12 PM
Here’s my problem, troopers:
If the campaign becomes a discussion over who’s more qualified, Obama or Palin, Obama benefits if it’s even close (which it is.)
The relevant comparison is between Obama and McCain. The ad, which is accurate for an Obama-Palin race, completely ignores this crucial point.
Obama is by far the most unqualified candidate ever proffered by either party for President. A comparison between his credentials and McCain’s hammers the point home. We should be avoiding comparisons with Palin, even though she wins them.
philwynk on September 3, 2008 at 3:37 PM
Is this better…?
J_Gocht on September 3, 2008 at 3:45 PM
I think the “Obama is even unqualified to be vice-president” angle has some legs…..but not enough to carry it very far. Take some well-aimed shots then move to the next target.
LimeyGeek on September 3, 2008 at 3:47 PM
I think Palin’s experience as a PTA president is comparable to “community organizer” The PTA raises money and tries to improve the community with the money. And they support the schools and try to help encourage parent involvement.
I don’t see how Obama was any more than a glorified social worker. He had a law degree so his title was bigger.
What did he accomplish as this “community organizer” not much from what I understand or they would point to it and say he was the executive who over saw that success…
But they don’t they keep it as vague as possible. I think McCain can only win the more Obama is pressed on what he has ever accomplished.
petunia on September 3, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Well Palin’s creditials are comparable with past VP picks.
What did Edwards ever do? He was in the Senate for a couple of years.
VP’s don’t have to “be ready on day one” They don’t ever have to be ready most of the time.
petunia on September 3, 2008 at 4:01 PM
McCain/Palin are a progressive ticket in the truest sense of the word. Today “progressive” is code language for Marxism (or Mc Marxism).
RobCon on September 3, 2008 at 4:02 PM
I guess anything can be ‘progressive’ if you’re oblivious to direction.
LimeyGeek on September 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM
Bingo. Perfectly stated.
holygoat on September 3, 2008 at 6:46 PM
You need to find out what a community organizer is. Let me help you.
What they’re calling “community organizer” is what we used to call “outside agitator” back in the 1960s. In other words, he was a professional Marxist, attempting to rile up the inhabitants of a poor neighborhood to stand up to the corrupt capitalists and landlords who were the real cause of their poverty. His job consisted of meeting people, convincing them they should be angry, and then channeling their anger toward Marxist-inspired action.
Not only is this not executive experience, it’s not exactly honest work.
