Giuliani: Just give her a chance, for god’s sake

posted at 1:48 pm on September 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

In which Rudy voices to the second-most frequent reaction to the Palin pick by conservatives. Two clips for you here actually, the common thread being his very cynical suggestion that our caring media doesn’t really give a wet shinola about Palin’s kids being neglected while she’s on the trail or else they would have made the same point about Obama’s daughters once or twice during the past 18 months. (Maybe they’re just racist?) “Where are the feminists?” he asks in the second clip, a good question that can, thankfully, be ignored given that he’s both male and conservative(-ish) and therefore lacking — or almost lacking — the authenticity needed to challenge the sisterhood on this point. Although if he’s sincerely looking for lefty feminists willing to defend Palin, he can start right here.

Gotta say: I don’t know whether it’s something specific to Rudy or just my own doubts about whether Palin’s not ready, but the first two minutes or so of the ABC clip are singularly unconvincing. Especially the unblinking assertion about her being president on 9/11. Click the image to watch.

Or the fact that Nancy Pelosi has 5 kids and left her house to run the house. Notice the GOP never attacked her for that.

Gov. Palin is more ready to be President (let alone VP) than Obama or Biden. Get over this already! She is a great pick for the Hillary/Women issue, and the energy issue. She is a strong conservative with good values and she is right on all the issues. She can also connect with regular Americans. What more do you want? She is as ready to be President as half the people in the Congress, maybe more.

And Washington Post columnist Sally Quinn wrote: “Of course, women can be good mothers and have careers at the same time. I’ve done both. Other women in public office have children…but…a mother’s role is different from a father’s.”

The message? Sarah Palin: bad mother.

On that count we have no doubt these accusations would never be made about a man.

We’ll be reminding the lefties of this as they continue their crusade to get get words like “mother” and “father” purged from childrens’ textbooks.

You learn a lot running a State, even a small one like Delaware. Much more than running your mouth with no accountability while being in the Senate or House.

I say we wait and see. We’ll have the answer in a few weeks.

Weird how liberals could nominate the ice cream man, and they would all close ranks and support the candidate. Hey, I didn’t know OBiden sold ice cream. Maybe we should be hearing a little about his families business dealings.

Since when does “traveling” constitute foreign policy experience? To answer my own question, since Obama’s only adult international experience consists of a couple of trips abroad.

Sawyers’ line of questioning is annoying and it’s elitist. I know quite a few people who have, for example, traveled through Europe, but they really didn’t learn much. They still don’t know the difference between Slovenia and Slovakia or Latvia and Lithuania. They don’t know the history of Europe or current events either.

Taking a freaking vacation doesn’t mean a thing. Those of us who don’t have the time and money to vacation in Europe because we have jobs and families are somehow inferior to the snobs who vacation abroad? Gimme a break.

jp on September 3, 2008 at 1:58 PM

Exactly. My theory is that Obama ran thinking he had little chance to become the Democrat nominee and just did it for experience. However, after the media went nuts for him he thought: “Dayum, maybe I have a shot.” and he become enamored with the idea-being the narcissist that he is.
And now, we have the most liberal and least experienced presidential nominee ever thanks to Barack’s ego and the love and devotion of the media.

She’s an elected official that didnt let the oil companies or corrupt Republicans in office there do the same crap they’d been doing. She’s got a 80% approval rating. The state produces a ton of natural resources for the country. She knows energy policy, she knows how to run the state with over 24k employees. She has a budget of over 10 billion dollars.

Barack Obama, who is running for the goddamn President, not Vice President, runs his mouth and maybe his lawnmower when Michelle cracks the whip. His biggest budget concerns are how much Captain Crunch his kids are going through a week. He’s been a junior senator for not even 1 term, and half that has been running for president, the other half he voted on things. Sometimes.

You’re missing the point about Palin’s experience and judgement. Barack Obama has extensive experience writing biographies of Barack Obama, giving speeches about the greatness of Barack Obama, raising money for Barack Obama, and securing high salaries for Michelle Obama. What has Sarah Palin ever done for Barack or Michelle Obama? Zip. She’s got no experience at all. She might as well have been born yesterday – and if she had been, Barack Obama would have no problem with terminating her.

As for judgement, she’s a Republican. That automatically indicates a complete lack of judgement, and makes every member of her family a legitimate military target for the media.

Has anyone else noticed that the media ALWAYS frames the argument in relation to national security experience. Every time… watch for it. They will start talking about experience, then quickly reframe it into a question about national security.

Gotta love the media towing the line for The One. They frame everything in terms of the only experience where she has any partial weakness.

Sure, Palin’s national security/ foreign relations experience has been limited to dealing with Canada and the National Guard. She’s no John McCain.

When will someone ask Obama the same question? Or ask Biden how he can claim the mantle of foreign policy experience when everyone, including Obama, says he has been wrong in every judgment he’s made?

One of the things I don’t understand about people like Fred Thompson or Rudy Giuliani is when they argue about if Gov. Palin can fulfill the duties of Vice President and a family. Why they don’t argue from the standpoint of women in the military. The military is a demanding job, should all the single mothers or mothers married to civilian men be barred from military service? If the American Media is so concerned about Gov. Palin being distracted from the job because of family matters, then bar female military pilots just in case they get distracted by family matters during a combat sortie.

Allah,
Are you really a liberal feminist in a conservative blogger costume? You have insight into yourself, you are a real downer.

True dat, Upinak. All the northern leaders regularly deal with other “northern” governments, in conferences, etc., that include the US, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and Russia… Circumpolar stuff.

Can we list the smears?

Gov Palin not the mother of the special needs child
Gov Palin a former member of AIP
Gov Palin cut funds for teenage moms
Gov Palin banned certain books
Gov Palin pushed creationism
Gov Palin’s mom-in-law won’t be voting for Palin/McCain

I’ll give them credit for trying to destroy this woman’s life in less than a day, but wich each passing hour, we learn that these smears were works of fiction.
Gov Palin fished illegally

Here’s a question I saw at Ace’s.

How is it that Barry has a Security Clearance when he’s buddies with an unrepetant terrorist who seeks the violent overthrow of the United States Government?

Guarantee, some mid-level flunky lists “William Ayers” as an associate, and he will not get a Top Secret security clearance.

How is it that Barry has one? Is that not more of a story than poking around in a 17 year old’s sex life, MSM “journalists”?

Unless I miss my guess cant North Korean Missiles hit Alaska ? Sarah could say she lives under the threat of a missile strike from North Korea and thats why she backs Missile defense.

And why do we continuously have those beurocrates running the country? Aren’t they supposed to support the top WH executive decisions? Serve the President, not the other way around?

Sir Napsalot on September 3, 2008 at 2:45 PM
