Let me clue you in on something that seems to escape you: this is the Republican party and John McCain is the Republican nominee, because Republicans supported him in the primaries. Conservatives apparently could not stop sniping at each other long enough to come up with a viable alternative.

We’ve discussed this before. I’d argue that if the RNC really wanted the best candidate, they would adopt a preferential voting system. If the RNC actually valued conservatism, and if we had the ability to rank order the candidates, I think we would have had a much different result. The conservative vote was split between multiple candidates, which allowed McCain to appear in the lead, even though he was on the top of the list for so few people. But because the conservative vote was split so many ways, McCain came out on top. Who were the other viable candidates? Duncan Hunter. Fred Thomposon, for starters.

If however, conservatives do not want to support the Republican nominee then why would you expect other Republicans to support the conservative nominee.

I’m tired of these labels “Republican” and “conservative.” I want the best, most qualified candidate possible. If Republicans don’t like me for not supporting their candidate, I really couldn’t care less. If they choose not to support folks with my ideals, more to the point that I won’t support them.

With regard to a McCain presidency being a success for the country: we’ll see.

If we all have to stay consistent when the election comes around, then that means that we can only vote for and support the guy we were most interested in during the primaries. It seems that Romney supporters expected McCain supporters to forget consistency and vote for Romney if he got the nomination, the same would be true with everyone else running.

This is politics, it is how it works. If however, conservatives do not want to support the Republican nominee then why would you expect other Republicans to support the conservative nominee.

I don’t much like guys like Hannity. I think O’Reilley is a blow hard. But I do not want to see the Republican party turned into some little fringe of conservative purists doomed to be a minority forever. I am sure the Democrats would like that idea, but not me.

If you want to help elect Obama just say so, don’t get all pissed off because other Republicans do not want to help you complain and moan about their ticket.

Obama could possibly be the worst candidate for President in our history, but he doesn’t concern me at the moment. I’m merely asking so-called “conservatives” to stay consistent. Conservatives have disliked him for years based upon principle. Now they’re fawning over him because of his Gov. Palin choice. What gives? As I say, I’m not attached to the hip of the Republican Party. I’ll have no part in voting for McCain due to his stance on free speech, gun rights, embryonic stem cell research/abortion, his embracing of Sandra Day O’Connor, voting to confirm Breyer and Ginsburg, border security/immigration, among other things. If this means that Obama may win, fine. He’ll do less damage to the country than McCain will. I know, you’re thinking “WHAT?! How can you say that?” Here’s why:
McCain, with his moderate Democrat ideas, will change the, message, direction and face of the Republican party. His policies will not help the country, and Republicans will take the blame. Given the above policies/actions, do we really think that McCain will be good for the country? Republicans will lose more seats in Congress in 2010 and 2012 because of his failures, not to mention, almost assuredly, lose the White House to Obama (or Hillary). Joseph Farah has even written a book on this very idea. I don’t think he’s too far off the mark.
What am I doing? Rather than ingratiate myself to a failure of candidates in both parties, I’m going to help send a message to both parties by voting for a man more along the lines of what I believe. Duncan Hunter maybe? Fred Thompson? (I’m waiting until 2012 for Gov. Jindal.) I’m also doing what I can to affect the REAL race this fall: the Congressional races. If “conservatives” can take Congress, then that’s a big dent in the potential negative impact that either Obama or McCain could have. Did you know that Dick Durbin is up for reelection, for example? The Congressional race is the real race, but it’s also the race that gets little to no attention.

If that’s your best guess, then you really haven’t a clue. If you haven’t been here that long, or paid attention to my comments, I could see how you could come to that. However, making two people get their panties in a bunch by calling Pat Buchanan what many other posters here have doesn’t really phase me, especially when one of them complains about straw man when using straw man themselves.
