Video: “How can a woman run a state and bring up … five children at the same time?”

posted at 2:25 pm on September 2, 2008 by Allahpundit

This should go a long way towards redeeming Trotta on the left for once joking about Obama being assassinated. They’re arguing at cross-purposes here: Kelly’s clearly right in principle that the argument’s sexist but Trotta’s point is that whether it is or not, some voters are going to be persuaded by it and act accordingly. Probably true, but is she sure they’re conservatives? As Goldstein notes, the “new feminism” takes a dim view of Republican women straying too far from the nursery.

Wow. They’re even vetting Levi more than they ever vetted Obama.

Does anyone else find that rather bizarre?

And while we’re at it, how did Michelle Obama escape this sort of anal exam? I always hear the white glove snapping, but only when it comes to Republicans and their friends.

They were already engaged? Thats even worse. who lets their 17 year old daughter get “engaged” (snicker) to a self-described “bad-boy” hockey player who was just kicked out of his previous high school. Dont these parents give a rats ass what their children are up to? Not when you get to be a mayor or something, I guess.

You are of course right…but…as a former 17 year-old girl that kid is sooo the type that could ruin your life! But for the grace of God so they say…

Tony737 on September 2, 2008 at 3:43 PM

Sorry, but I think Liz Trotta is enunciating what is, in fact, the conservative position for many family values conservatives.

Sorry, but while that may be the position for “family values” voters, it does not equate with “conservative.” Conservatives value hard work and individualism, and are not fans of living their lives based on what other people/pundits think about their family.

Unless by “conservatives” you mean people to the right of James Dobson?

Mr. Dobson routinely advises mothers to stay home full-time with their young children. But he has enthusiastically welcomed Gov. Palin’s candidacy and hailed her response to her daughter’s pregnancy.

If some self described “bad-boy” hockey player who just got kicked out of his previous school even tried to date my daughter, let alone get anywhere with her, he would have his “badboy” hockey stick firmly planted up his ass.

And now the “bad-boy” and the 17 year old girl are going to get married and raise the child? Wow…lucky child. Why dont they do the right thing and put the baby up for adoption? I will tell you why? IT DOESNT SELL AS WELL FOR THE PALIN CAMPAIGN!!!

Tony737 on September 2, 2008 at 3:45 PM

My child arrived just the other day
came to the world in the usual way
but there fish to catch
bills to pay
she learned to hunt while I was away
and she was talkin’ before I knew it
and as she grew
she’d say I’m gonna be like you, mom
ya know I’m gonna be like you

And the moose in the oven
and the fishin’ hole
little girl flew to the northern pole
when ya comin’ home, mom
I don’t know when
but we’ll be together then, yeah
ya know we’ll have a good time then

My kid turned ten just the other day
she said thanks for the rod mom c’mon let’s play
can ya teach me to fish
I said not today
I got a lot to do
she said that’s ok
and she turned away
and she never seemed hurt
she said I’m gonna be like her, yeah
ya know I’m gonna be like her

And the moose in the oven
and the fishin’ hole
little girl flew to the northern pole
when ya comin’ home, mom
I don’t know when
but we’ll be together then, yeah
ya know we’ll have a good time then

She came from college just the other day
so much like a woman I just had to say
I’m proud of you
can ya sit for a while
she shook her head
and she said with a smile
what I’d really like mom
is to borrow the shot gun
see ya later
gonna have some fun

And the moose in the oven
and the fishin’ hole
little girl flew to the northern pole
when ya comin’ home, mom
I don’t know when
but we’ll be together then, yeah
ya know we’ll have a good time then

I’ve long since retired
my daughter moved away
I called her up just the other day
I’d like to see you if you don’t mind
she said I’d love to mom if I could find the time
ya see this campaign’s a hassle
and kids have the flu
but it’s sure nice talkin’ to you, mom
it’s been sure nice talkin’ to you
and as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
she’d grown up just like me, yeah
my girl, was just like me.

And the moose in the oven
and the fishin’ hole
little girl flew to the northern pole
when ya comin’ home, mom
I don’t know when
but we’ll be together then, yeah
ya know we’ll have a good time then

Sorry if this is too off topic, but I just read the article

http://www.mererhetoric.com/archives/11274826.html

listed under Hot Air’s Headlines. Funny, in a sense, but otherwise not:

OK, I’m not under 30 anymore. OK, I know about life in the former East Bloc. Before my time, however…

Stalin was famous (Mao followed in his footsteps) for “retouching” photographs. Can somebody please get a tickler to the GOP (I can’t get through, and wouldn’t know where to post such a suggestion anyway) that there is a legitimate basis for outrage at the use of this propaganda (perhaps not for the iPod folks)?

Thanks.

You guys get all pissed when somebody likes me mentions the moral values that our parents and our grandparents all believed. You cant change nature with your uppity new moral standards.

Don’t some “moral values” that our parents and grandparents had need to change?

I mean, among my ancestors were sailors on slave ships.

I think ‘barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen’ was definitely one “moral value” that needed to go.
Get all pissed if it makes you feel better. But, I believe that it is an undeniable fact that, IN GENERAL, children are better served being watched over and raised very carefully by fully engaged parents.
Fully engaged does not mean a parent’s sole responsibility.

Fully engaged means “tag-team parenting” so that at least one parent (or parental figure) is with the kids at all time.

(Parental figures includes teachers, aunts and uncles, grandparents and babysitters among others).

IN GENERAL, the best situation is a mother watchin her children like a hawk and a father also watching out but bring home the bread.

Absolutely wrong.

The closer you watch the children the more secretive they become as they sense the inherit lack of trust in such a parental position.

And why is it that your formula only works one way? Why doesn’t it work when the father is the primary care-giver and the mother ‘brings home the bread’? That seems like a very sexist assumption.

They were already engaged? Thats even worse. who lets their 17 year old daughter get “engaged”

I’ll ask my rhetorical question again.

Why is it that the left thinks that a 14 yo girl is ‘mature enough’ to make a decision to abort her baby without parental consent…

…but a 17 yo young woman is ‘just a child’ whose ‘mistake’ proves ‘bad parenting.’?????

Doesn’t one get cramps trying to contort one’s brain around this?

Get ready to say President Obama.

Hey, I thought us conservative republicans were against identity politics and affirmative action. Of course, McCain the douche was never a conservative (hate to break the news to you numbskulls) and was only barely a republican..almost was John Kerry’s running mate.

epublicans running with a VP who makes a mockery of traditional values

Let’s see:

- she married her high school sweetheart
- Gave him (and only him!) 5 children
- is a practicing Christian (Assembly of God denomination)
- hunts & fishes
- pro-life and lives it out by not aborting Down’s Syndrome baby
- got to her position by fighting the corrupt system that was already in place
- got to her position by hard work, not through favors, nepotism or riding the coat tails of her husband
- Stood by her daughter when she made a poor choice that resulted in her own pregnancy

Yeah, that sure is SOME “mockery” of “traditional values.” /sarc

My middle daughter is the captain of her high school cheerleading team and all three girls are gorgeous. They have had no problem attracting attention of boys. But, while they are minors, and under my care, we set the rules and watch them like hawks.

BTW – Wasilla has a population of over 5,000 when Sarah was mayor (not 500 as troll-boy stated).

BBTW – Alaska is the 47th most populated state. Joe Biden’s Delaware is the 45th. However, Joe is one of TWO senators from Delaware which means that Sarah served a population twice as big as Biden’s.

When you factor in that Palin’s experience is executive while Biden’s and Obama’s is senatorial, she is clearly more experienced then they are.

allrsn on September 2, 2008 at 4:18 PM

Don’t know if anyone’s pointed this out in the comments , and I don’t have the time to read all of them, so my apologies to anyone who did.
If you want to talk about news channel segments, just turn on CNN. Between yesterday and today, I have seen a sickening vileness that I never believed I would have seen in this country. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that this country is headed for a terrible reckoning.
Yesterday I was treated to disgusting lowlife attacks on a 17 year old kid to advance a political agenda by Campbell Scott and co.. Today was more of the same, with some woman, for lack of a better word, from the Washington Post saying with a big smirk on her face that any and all attacks on Sarah Palin and her family were completely legitimate and justified. Her reasoning? That Gov. Palin is running for POTUS-not VP- because of McCain’s age.
Half of this country is completely insane, and the other half doesn’t seem to have the guts to so much as call them on it.A rep from McCain’s camp was on yesterday. He legitimized the filth and attacks by CNN and their reporters in going after a 17 yr. old kid by tap dancing to Brown’s snarky questions and remarks. He should have turned it around and called her on it, on her networks running interference for Obama on real issues such as his associations, then smiled into the camera and said “Take a good look, America. Is this the kind of filth you want running things in your country? And if it is, then to Hell with you”. But noooo. It’s all about be nice, reach across the isle.
Let’s be blunt. You are dealing with walking, talking sacks of excrement. There is no dealing nicely with them. And if you think that “taking the high road” is the way to deal with them, even when they’re going after kids, well, that’s not the high road, it’s flat out cowardice, and the only road it’s on is the one to Hell.
The bloggers and the people who read and comment on them need to take the gloves off, say enough is enough, and get vicious . Bombard these scum with calls and e-mails. Go after their sponsors, and most of all, go after these gutless clowns with “R”s next to their names and demand they get in the fight, rather than allow any and all vile obcenities by the other side to go unchallenged and with impunity.
I am furious, and can rant more, but you all get the point.
Enough is damn well enough.

Do you think Palin was chosen because she was the most capable, proven, and experienced VP alternative

or

do you think she was chosen based on her gender?

Whaddyathink?

Let’s see:

- she’s a maverick in her own right

- has impeccable conservative credentials

- is tough as nails (not just surviving, but winning a battle with the corrupt party machine)

- is an ‘outsider’ to “Washington-politics-as-usual”

- she gets things done

- has character and grit and charisma

Being good looking and a woman were a plus, but she never would have been picked if she didn’t have the ‘real stuff’.

She was picked for who she was and what she has done, not just because she has a vagina.

Religious_Zealot on September 2, 2008 at 4:23 PM

Okay, seriously, the left wing lack of integrity and principles really is glaringly obvious here. A woman, with 5 children, can’t pursue her chosen career the same as any man would?

The question isn’t simply one of experience, but of NECESSARY experience.

Senatorial experience is not the same as executive experience and since the presidency is an EXECUTIVE position, THAT’S what experience matters the most.

I have one good reason for you to vote for the Republican ticket.

Judges.

Right now there are 3 liberal judges who probably would have retired by now if Bush were not in the whitehouse.

Given Obama’s friends–Wright, Ayers… what type of judges is he going to pick?

McCain is not perfect. Palin is not perfect. But what kind of judges is McCain going to pick…. he chose Palin over other women who are pro-choice. What kind of judge will he pick?

When the issue of protecting traditional marriage hits the Supreme court who do you want making the decisions? Who is most likely to be fair to all parties? Obama’s choice or McCain’s choice.

I choose McCain.

Oh darn life is calling me I have to go.

Honestly, this just shows the lefts contempt for the values bestowed on us, as a country and a culture, from the “greatest generation” before them. The baby boomer generation rebelled against its parent generation and have been acting like spoiled teenagers ever since. From Vietnam to Iraq, “rebel at all costs” no matter what. When this greedy self important generation dies out from natural causes, we will surly be stuck with their bill as they sit in all the old folks homes they built, bought and sold to finance their American dream they fought so hard against when they were young and starry eyed. When I see a Democrat respond to a question anymore, all I see is a teenager sneering “I know you are, but what am I?” My apologies to the much smaller percentage of baby boomers that didn’t drink the kool aid then.

Kill babies that survive an abortion. McCain is OLD and about to die.

Sheep. Get ready for the slaughter sheep.

Why do liberals fantasize about death so much? It’s like a death cult.

Loxodonta on September 2, 2008 at 4:33 PM

All I am saying that in a close election this could be an issue, so people shouldn’t pooh-pooh it.
Vashta.Nerada on September 2, 2008 at 3:38 PM

I’m not pooh-poohing it, but where do you draw the line? Do you acknowledge the imperfect reality of today’s existence for young families, or do you pander to the ever-decreasing minority that want to live in yesterday’s reality?

These young people aren’t neglecting their children. Many of them live paycheck to paycheck to pay for decent daycare for little ones, or private school for older kids. They’re not asking for government handouts or (uck!) government daycare, just some acknowledgement of the way life is, today, in America.

Nichevo on September 2, 2008 at 4:34 PM

Sheep. Get ready for the slaughter sheep. “I have looked over Jordan and I have seen, things are as bad as they seem. No, this is no bad dream.”
Roger Waters, Sheep, from the Animals album.

Better question… why is he trying to use HA as an advertising forum? As much as he’s trolling, does he really think any of us will want to buy his liberal-trype-filled album? :P

McCain is not perfect. Palin is not perfect.

You forgot, humans are not perfect. O except Obama and the other corrupt socialists.

allrsn on September 2, 2008 at 4:37 PM

Petunia, you are correct.

If I vote, I will be forced to vote for McCain. But I dont have to like it and I dont have to pretend that either McCain or Palin are even close to being reasonable candidates.

And, we will lose this one anyway.

Be pessimistic if you want, but I don’t think we’re sunk yet. At this rate, the Obamatron will bomb itself.

I forgot which site it was, media matters or somthing. Sent out trolls to troll consertive sites like this one.

Roger Waters sounds like one of them. Watch all its twists and turns, sensless words and a total refusal to provide doucuments, sources or logic.

Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 4:42 PM

You’re kidding right? I thought conservatives thought little children need their mothers. I know I believe that to be the case. You know, nature and all, cant fool mother nature.

Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 2:49 PM

Getting in here late, haven’t read all the comments, but, didn’t Hillary Clinton write a book, “It Takes a Village”? From what I’ve read here and other places, her parents are retired and available to help care for the children. What, was the meaning of Hillary’s book only a good thing if you’re a liberal democrat? If you’re a conservative woman you’re not allowed to have a family and a career? I’m sick of the hypocrisy from the left, and now apparently the right.

Not to mention the constant “I/my family are better than everything in the discussion” and “We’re going to lose anyway”.

With the base energized and excited…

With McCain APPEARING to want to continue to court his base…

With the ‘perfect orator’ Obama meme getting destroyed each time he stops reading his teleprompter or deviates from the printed speech in front of him…

With the loony left letting their mask drop as they continue to savage Sarah…

With no real negative issues for Republicans at this time (Iraq war winding down, etc.)…

With a lot of saber rattling going on around the world which further exposes Obama’s clear incompetence in foreign affairs…

…with all of this, I think the election is looking really, really good for McCain.

Cute. You’re allowed to think that, I suppose. However, you sir have already been branded the troll that you are, so really what you think of me doesn’t much matter.

And that *eats* thing is gay as hell in case nobody told you yet.

You’re not the first… although you’re the first to refer to it as “gay”. Convenient insult that, very mature. Your children must be proud.

Apparently you’re not familiar with Zork. No worries, if you don’t like it then it wasn’t made for you. However, if I stopped something that I and others find amusing or fun just because one or two people whined, I wouldn’t be here.

I believe I’ve had my fill of playing the troll’s game. I tried to have polite and reasonable discourse with you and it seems you’re only interested in trolling. Ah well, I tried.

Wow. They’re even vetting Levi more than they ever vetted Obama.

Does anyone else find that rather bizarre?

And while we’re at it, how did Michelle Obama escape this sort of anal exam? I always hear the white glove snapping, but only when it comes to Republicans and their friends.

capitalist piglet on September 2, 2008 at 3:39 PM

Quit complaining. You have Google and fingers. Do your own “exam.”

Really. You guys act as if there is NO good reporting. The truth is, again for the uninitiated, is that you are a ravenous consumer of MSM news. This blog and other favorites offer their analysis and retort to…drum roll… MSM news sources.

I’ve suggested it before and I will again — do some original reporting of your own. Be proactive. Why wait around for some left-wing journalist to piss you off with their slant on the facts? Most reporting takes place on the phone; I’ve seen text messages used to gather facts. The right needs a citizen journalist cadre.

The paleo-newsers are a necessary evil. Bloggers often uncover what their breadcrumbs reveal but they were too obtuse or slanted to see. The MSM are my gateway drug, my pot if you will. Sites like HotAir* are the crack and meth — my addiction. But just like crack and meth there’s always some weed around.

* there are no sites like HA.

hold on there allrsn, you are the one saying that I am saying something untrue. If you have facts, lets see them. I am giving my opinion based on the articles that are right there in front of you from the media and listed on Hot Air and Drudge. I am not going to hold your hand and tell you which articles to read. It takes just a few minutes to read all of them and then you wont be so ignorant.

Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 4:48 PM

My wife was a stay-at-home Mom for over 25 years and has always been a good Mom to our 10 children (not counting a few foster children mixed in). When we got down to 5 children at home, she finished her college degree and served as an elected member of the local school board at the same time. She is now an 8th grade math teacher and continues (with assistance from me) to raise our remaining 3 children and to be a wonderful grandmother to an ever increasing population of grandchildren.

I really don’t understand those who are attempting to spin Palin’s political career as something that hurts her ability to be a good Mother and to get the stay-at-home Mom vote. Being a good Mom doesn’t preclude having a challenging career outside of the home, as long as the family works together to make it possible. My wife’s work in our community has greatly improved our local education system and has not ruined the lives of our children. She is excited about the choice of Palin on the Republican ticket and tells me that most of the women in her rather large circle of friends feel the same way in the very Democrat State of West Virginia. Most of my male friends also see the Palin choice as very positive.

Palin probably won’t be able to convince many of the electorate in deep blue States to vote for McCain, but her selection will do wonders with the more rural battleground States that Obama was showing signs of winning over to his candidacy. All Palin really has to do is help keep the red States in the Republican column and I believe that she will far exceed that goal.

They can spin it any way they want to, but the Liberals and Democrats are showing real signs of desperation in their mean-spirited attacks on Gov. Palin’s family. She is the first woman in modern times with a real shot at being Vice-President of the United States and eventually President. Unlike Obama, she is an authentic reformer who will fight for the rights of average Americans and against bigger and badder government. She and McCain truly represent positive change that Americans can live with.

Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 4:45 PM

I haven’t read the book, but I think I understand the premise. I’ll answer your question with another, Roger. Why would a liberal democrat write it if they weren’t ok with the meaning behind it applying to everyone.?

4shoes on September 2, 2008 at 4:52 PM

I said, who is the MOST experienced, and capable person to serve as a republican VP? It wasnt Palin. It was an affirmative action political decision and the country would pay for it if McCain got elected (which he wont).
Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 4:21 PM

Uh, Roger, aside from executive experience vs. senatorial experience (and your somewhat ridiculous assertion that your wife knows/knew what your teenage daughters are/were doing at every moment of every day) you know, of course, that this is perhaps the only measure McCain could have taken to bolster his campaign among the right?

Some boring white guy — no matter what your definition of “experience” — would have brought a big yawn. Palin has brought life to a campaign that thought it could best Obama on his weaknesses alone, but a campaign still searching for an identity. A campaign slogged in the mud of “bipartisanship” and “you know, maybe we’ll drill offshore, but….” or “Carbon credits — yes!” needed a shot of adrenalin.

Deal with it.

Grue in the Attic on September 2, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Found it:

Waters has made his views about the 2008 United States Presidential election clear. During his concert appearance at the Coachella Festival, he released the trademark Pink Floyd inflatable pig into the air with the words “Don’t be led to the slaughter” written on one side, next to a cartoon of Uncle Sam holding meat cleavers. “Fear builds walls” was written on the pig’s other side and “Impeach Bush” on the pig’s behind. On the pig’s belly was Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s name with a check mark beside it.

Quoted as saying “Please, God – I’m an atheist so maybe I shouldn’t be asking God – but let Barack Obama finally win the Democratic nomination and elect a person who seems to be not just enormously intelligent but also deeply humane and seems to have an imagination.”

About says it all I believe.

1GooDDaDDy on September 2, 2008 at 4:55 PM

Nichevo,

I agree with you that that was the reasoning McCain used to pick Palin. I believe it was a horrible choice…but we agree it was a political choice, not a meritocracy choice. That is good enough for me.

I just have to laugh at the dummies here who actually think McCain chose Palin for reasons not political (she is tough as nails etc).

Roger Waters on September 2, 2008 at 4:56 PM

Don’t waste your time, Allrsn – he’s in full circle dance mode. Remember, trolls operate under “true until proven false” methodology, rather than the more traditional and more accepted “true because of proof” method that most people use.
