I love seeing Fred! and Newt all fired up…. I wouldn’t have believed it if you told me they would be so excited during a McCain campaign… I credit Sarah for it all…

Apparantly Newt Gingrich has had enough of MSNBC.

Gotta love the Newt!

and that was priceless..

Is anyone seriously suggesting that Palin might withdraw?

Mormon Doc on September 3, 2008 at 12:18 AM

Actually, suggesting that Palin might withdraw – at least on the basis of anything thusfar brought forward even in the form of vague rumor – is one inerrant definition of unseriousness.

In other words, that entire Eagleton thread is by definition a waste of pixels, not that someone in there might not have said something interesting (though in all likelihood it would probably be off-topic).

In fact, given the level of commitment and identification already established in the conservative base, for the McCain campaign even to hint at the possibility of thinking about considering the concept of dropping Palin would be suicidal. Not “politically” suicidal – just plain old suicidal.

I was just tellin’ the good folks here about my “Tobacco chewin’, beer drinkin’, baby poppin’ in-laws” who live up in Alaska. Is there a place called the North Pole up there? I think that’s where they live. They got a whole slew of kids and grand kids poppin’ out annually! (And I mean this affectionately – they are cool people.)

My point being they haven’t seen Sarah and her family fight back yet… but they will.

Mr_Magoo on September 3, 2008 at 12:52 AM

I am so loving that w/the addition of Sarah that Election 08 is now David vs Goliath…

Allah…….. MSNBC pulled Newt’s throw down:

MSNBC’s Ron Allen said to the former Speaker, “But to be fair, her resume is not something we’re familiar seeing with presidential candidates.”

This didn’t sit well with Gingrich who strongly replied (video embedded right, h/t NB readers Matt Noll and Patrick):

It’s stronger than Barack Obama’s. I don’t know why you guys walk around saying this baloney. She has a stronger resume than Obama. She’s been a real mayor, he hasn’t. She has been a real governor, he hasn’t. She’s been in charge of the Alaskan National Guard, he hasn’t. She was a whistle blower who defeated an incumbent mayor. He has never once shown that kind of courage. She’s a whistle blower who turned in the chairman of her own party and got him fined $12,000. I’ve never seen Obama do one thing like that. She took on the incumbent governor of her own party and beat him, and then she beat a former Democratic governor in the general election. I don’t know of a single thing Obama’s done except talk and write.
Newt then challenged Allen:

I’d like you to tell me one thing Sen. Obama’s done.
With that, Allen retreated, and said:

Thanks very much, Mr. Speaker. I’m going to leave it there. I’m not going to argue the case. Thanks very much.

You have to find it………..

Or else the next time you see it, it will be a Presidential add for McCain/Palin.

Connie on September 3, 2008 at 12:56 AM

It just occurred to me: It’s a good thing Olbermann’s not there, or he’d have said something about a shovel and Fred would have stomped a mudhole in his hairpiece.

The wind is at our back, they do not see our flanks, the reserves are eager, we are well armed, ……….. and although they might have a louder “horn” (aka, ..MSM), our prayers carry the wind…….

I was so psyched about that speech. Then i saw this. Damn them. They’re gonna win this thing, they really will, and there’s nothing we can do. I mean, for crying out loud, Thompson gives the best speech in ages, and, after showing every minute of the speeches last week, the networks DON’T EVEN SHOW IT. I’m sorry, but I am so mad right now, I can’t even explain.

I watched the entire video, stopped at the point of the description of McCains torture, went to his web site and donated $100.00. I feel so ashamed as a veteran that I did not support him earlier. This man truly showed what it meant to be a military man, and what it meant to stand up in honor of his country.

That other asshole in the race decided to associate with someone who bombed the Pentagon around the period of McCain being a POW, or bombed other domestic targets.

I support him now, I had never heard the details of how he was tortured. If he would have mentioned this earlier, that JACKASS Jimmy Carter would have been even more stupid in denouncing him for his POW experience.

After seeing this video, and recalling how Jimmy Carter said McCain was “milking” his POW experience, I say unequivocally that Carter is a disgusting POS.

Thank you Fred for reminding me why I should have supported McCain long ago.

Evilwhiteguy on September 3, 2008 at 2:39 AM

The transcript’s here. It’s not too late…

I want to write more but I have to go to work. The ferocity of the media’s onslaught against Sarah Palin and her family shouldn’t come as a surprise, even if it remains terrible to behold. That the media has long ago decided that Obama must be president and that all who come before his path must be destroyed is obvious. Vladimir Putin can only look on enviously and wish that the Russian media were this compliant.

But that Allahpundit is so relentlessly negative about Palin- now that is depressing. Fred might have been at the top of the ticket if he’d managed to stay awake long enough during the primaries. But he didn’t. If Palin is now thrown under the bus the Republicans might as well pack up their bags and prepare for 8 years of an Obama presidency.

Seriously, get a grip. If the negativity continues I’m heading over to Ace’s site.

schiehallion on September 3, 2008 at 2:57 AM

Red meat to be sure!

Fred! did not disappoint.

omnipotent on September 3, 2008 at 3:03 AM

Fred gave a great speech. That’s great with a capital G. He also gave a lesson in how to deliver a speach, from a plain-commonsense start to a thundering, nukular-powered finale, interrupted by spontaneous standing ovations that grew longer and more frequent as the energy built.

njcommuter on September 3, 2008 at 3:07 AM

Such a nice contrast compared to the garbage I saw televised for the Dem convention. People that love their country vs people that love themselves.

Regarding Obama on O’Reilly, I might be alone in my thoughts, but think it actually both shows some things and is a great opportunity. I cannot see BO going on BO unless internal polling is showing something that gallup/rasmussen and such is not. It stinks of desperation, especially on the night that McCain is speaking. It is either internal polling or the series about Obama that O’Reilly has been advertising.

The opportunity is that this will be as close to a debate as most people will have seen so far. Obama followed by McCain will show a lot of viewers the real contrast between the two. Even better, Obama in a possibly (although I doubt it) semi-hostile interview vs McCain in a forum showing support. Hopefully it goes well for McCain.

The only thing that would have made it better would’ve been if he’d drove out to the stage in the big red truck and given his speech from the bed; no jacket, no tie, sleaves rolled up, mic in hand instead of doing the usual stage bit that everyone else at every other convention does, and you know he could actually have pulled it off!

Fred Thompson + Big Red Truck = Money Momment

“Please don’t confuse my refusal to let these pessimists win me over with a call to boycott their organizations. NR is still a great conservative magazine, and Allah’s a wicked funny satirist who can get to the truth when others just see static. I’m just deciding to tune them out and listen to my own sense of right & wrong & take my own cousel on what’s good for America.” from Ace

Right on, Ace. It’s getting to whenever I see AP’s byline on a post, I can rightly expect sarcasm or pessimism or both. To me, the combination of those two do not equal wit.
If AP wants to ban me for not bowing to his altar, so be it.

Fred 2012 ( or 2016 if McCain gets elected).

What a brave stance. He probably will, too, the iron-fisted tyrant.

Jim Treacher on September 3, 2008 at 6:25 AM

I thought Fred was boring.
Jaibones on September 3, 2008 at 4:01 AM

Once every couple of years you and I will agree on something – this is one…see you in 2010.
At least it reminds the masses why a Fred candidacy would have been a repeat of Dole in 96.

At the very least it couldn’t possibly come off anywhere near as ridiculous as the Dems recreation of Triumph of The Wills…

SuperCool on September 3, 2008 at 4:48 AM

Are you serious? What theme music would you use? I know.. How about “The Watermelon Crawl”….

Had he done something like that McCain would be polling in the high thirties.

Bradky on September 3, 2008 at 6:48 AM

not angry enough.

Jaibones on September 3, 2008 at 4:01 AM

I understand that sentiment. But anger stems from inner conflict and is the most destructive emotion of them all. I thought Fred was very positive and confident in the cause he is supporting. Besides, i’m having too much fun watching the dems squirm to be angry.

myamphibian on September 3, 2008 at 6:59 AM

Did all the networks actually show the Dem Convention speeches? I have Direct TV so I can watch this stuff on C-Span or Fox or several other places, but I saw that someone said the networks carried the Dems but not the Republican. No doubt they are in the tank, but I don’t think they can do that.

As for the speech, Thompson was great. I had always known about McCain’s ordeal, but I don’t think I had ever really comprehended the amount of pain and suffering he went through. I don’t know how you survive 2 years in solitary under circumstances like that.

I also appreciated his strong defense of Palin. He is obviously pissed off at the treatment she has received.

Me too. The fact that major papers are still writing stories about her daughter’s pregnancy is so silly. Oh they say they are not prying, it is about judgment. After all what does it say about the party that supports family values if they nominate a woman who has a slut for a daughter. Or something like that.

Outrageous, sexist nonsense.

Terrye on September 3, 2008 at 7:00 AM

Bradky:

That is absurd. Fred’s speech was not boring. And while we might need some anger, we don’t need raving.

Has this been posted here yet?

A Note from Anne Kilkenny (on Sarah Palin)

Thanks. Anything to try to put the mania in some perspective is appreciated. Not particularly damning, imo, typical political stuff, but doesn’t help with the primary accusation (not here, although I share it) that her experience is on a level that is too small and too short.

I watched the RNC last night with my twelve-year-old daughter. It’s her first convention and she thought Fred was awesome. Good taste, she has.
