“With the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt”.

Classic line and a great speech.

Bishop on September 2, 2008 at 11:55 PM

Copied from Headline link, cause I’m teh lazy.

I thought it was a great speech, in both tone and text. It worked very well across the tv and it sounded like the crowd loved it too. There are going to be some pissed off Democrats after that.

The best part was how they never went to commercial. It kept the hit squads on cable news from shouting ‘McSame!!’ after the Presidents speech.

They will only tax the other side of your bucket.

FRED ROCKS THE HOUSE !!

Where has the republican party been all this time? Let’s get some MORE of this frank speech out there.

A voice of reason on September 2, 2008 at 11:56 PM

Man, when he told the story of McCain’s time in the P.O.W. camp, he really hit a nerve.

Tony737 on September 2, 2008 at 11:56 PM

I love Fred! He was an awful primary candidate, though. Better suited for the cabinet.

progressoverpeace on September 2, 2008 at 11:57 PM

AP, have you been properly vetted for this job? I bet you were the neighborhood pusher, giving out free samples.

If loving Fred is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

Terrie on September 2, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Except for the constant clearing of his throat, the speech rocked for me all the way in India at 7:30am!!! Go Fred!! Glad to see he’s still in the limelight and he’s a great front man for the Palin smears from the left. Excellent speech and I learned a lot more about McCain’s POW experience. Although I disagree with quite a few things Juan McAmnesty has tried to pull in the past, the man is definitely no lightweight. CNN’s after coverage of tonight’s convention was just as pathetically negative as you’d expect, but somehow still surprising how partisan these “neutral” hacks can be when covering Republicans. Campbell Brown is a joke.

Renwaa on September 2, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Looks like he caught up on sleep since the primaries.

OneGyT on September 2, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Egfrow on September 2, 2008 at 11:56 PM

Fred only had it partly right, actually.

Yeah, they won’t tax you. They’ll tax the place where you buy your milk. They’ll tax the companies that deliver the milk to the stores you buy from. They’ll tax the farms that feed the cows who produce your milk that you buy.

So, no, you won’t be taxed. You’ll just end up paying $6 for a gallon of milk that used to cost $3 and they’ll chock it up to inflation.

lorien1973 on September 2, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Allah likes Fred? Who knew?

upinak on September 3, 2008 at 12:00 AM

William Amos on September 3, 2008 at 12:01 AM

Who is this frank you speak of?

Rick on September 3, 2008 at 12:02 AM

I though the killer line was not having to wonder of you could trust him with the Presidency. That hits the core issue people really need to consider.

Ace ODale on September 3, 2008 at 12:06 AM

Just one question — why would you use the video from MSNBC?? It’s like using a video from Al Jazeera to cover the Knesset. Granted it’s just the speech itself, but I could almost hear Keith Olbermann huffing and puffing in the background, even though he’s been booted out of the convention and sent to New York.

Sparrow on September 3, 2008 at 12:06 AM

The respect he is given around the world is not because of a teleprompter speech designed to appeal to American critics abroad, but because of decades of clearly demonstrated character and statesmanship.

I’m firmly with Sarah, but some of the foreshadowing I’m seeing from the Enquirer is starting to make me worry about just how Sarah is gonna be dealing with this during the campaign.

Sakaki on September 3, 2008 at 12:08 AM

Allahbabe, stop teasing the animals. I wouldn’t take Fred for Sarah now, no way, no how.

Anwyn on September 3, 2008 at 12:08 AM

He really nailed this speech.

Started with a professionally narrated history of his life.
Transitioned well with his noble spirit.
Ended with some incredible contrast with Obama.

I was never a McCain fan (as an Arizonan), but this Fred! speech plus the Palin pick has me actually excited. Economics be damned, but they now have a solid ticket.

askheaves on September 3, 2008 at 12:09 AM

Oh, Fred, how it makes my heart ache that we’re not going to hear your speech on Thursday instead of Tuesday. But you surely did hammer out a splendid thing.

JudetheFossil on September 3, 2008 at 12:09 AM

Pssshawww Biden has his own dirt coming

William Amos on September 3, 2008 at 12:10 AM

I was a bit awed to hear the POW tale too, even though I pretty much knew the story.

That being said, I couldn’t help but think of the trials of Obama; the pain of not being able to find arugula in Iowa, the horror of being forced to eat squishy waffles in a common diner, the living hell of having to rub shoulders with hillbillies in the south

He has suffered too, you know……excuse me…..I think I need to be alone now.

Bishop on September 3, 2008 at 12:10 AM

She will do fine, plus she will have a groundswell of public support to assist her.

The dems are going to end up looking even more foolish than they do now, with stories of ever-increasing insanity. I believe both Palin and McCain will choose to either ignore them or issue brief press releases along the lines of, “You people are morons”.

Have faith in Palin, she has faith in you.

As I mentioned a few days ago, after this election, if McCain and Palin make it (and talking to PUMAs tonight, they just might by taking Pennsylvania), it’ll probably be one of the last votes I cast as long as the media is the way it is.

I’m just getting sick to my stomach by the stuff I’m seeing.

Fred for Sec. of State – would make Europeans’ and other assorted socialists’, communists’ and tyrants’ heads explode.

Joe Lieberman – Sec. of Defense – would make terrorists’ and tyrants’ heads explode, without us having to even fight them.

I don’t have the time to leave comments everywhere and they won’t convince anyone anyway. Nutcases like us who live out on the political blogs have already decided. My wife thinks I’m whacked but I can’t stop!

I could never be a politician. But I can be a good soldier and find a way to further the ’cause. Maybe talk to someone in the family, neighborhood or at work and get them to vote McCain/Palin. It’s the uninformed, the undecideds and the waverers we have to focus on now.
