New McCain video: Introducing Sarah Palin

posted at 6:20 pm on September 2, 2008 by Allahpundit

Lord knows McCain has his faults, but let’s please acknowledge that a man with the stones to pull a quote from Hillary’s pro forma congratulations to Palin and use it a quasi-endorsement can’t be all bad. Shameless, sir. Utterly shameless. And magnificent.

Further evidence of stones: The fact that they included Palin’s line about taking on the lobbyists, on the very day that WaPo published that story about her having retained a lobbyist of her own as mayor. Why do that? Because maybe one in a hundred voters will ever see that story and only one in a hundred of those who do will remember it on Election Day, but the speech will abide. I wonder how much of the Palin news over the last 48 hours falls into that same category. The story about her daughter has legs because it’s so vivid and easy to grasp, but the timeline on when she supported the bridge to nowhere versus when she opposed it? Not so much, not so much. Hence the lefty emphasis on smears. The fake dirt is so much more interesting than the real kind. Click the image to watch.

Sorry, it’s lame, especially after all the Sarah saturation.

Please, give us lots and lots of Governor Palin on Wednesday.

Ace of Spades does a nice job on a proposed topic/time outline.

It sure looks like Romney’s ad guys are working for McCain now.

That ad is almost identical to one introducing Mitt a couple years ago.

It is visually pleasing and upliftig and instills in the viewer a sense of hope for better things to come.

Well done.

Sorry, it’s lame, especially after all the Sarah saturation.

It’s not about us anymore. We watched her live.

It’s about the 9-5′rs getting home and seeing this on tv during the news or whatever. This is typical main stream marketing.

For the first half of the video, you wonder “what is the dude on the right side of the screen staring at?”

I think some tv ads with her will work terrific, especially on energy and abortion.

And, since I don’t think VPs are featured in ads very often, it’ll be unique and different as well.

Would Palin have had 25% of the support by conservative bloggers if she looked like Janet Reno? I know its the pessimist in me, but if BristolGate ends up giving middle class soccer moms to Obama, it will be because McCain’s campaign wanted to take a chance with a pretty big unknown.

It’s a montage of snippets from her Friday remarks. There seems to be something wrong with the way the page loads. Get with it, GOP.

I like her presentation style. It grows on me. With a little luck, she will be powerful.

It would have been better if she shot a rifle into the air at the end, but it was still good.

My mother is voting Republican for the first time. She’s a retired federal employee, who loves unions, thought the Republicans would take away her pension and that they turn the elderly into Soylant Green.

Now she’s got Palin Fevah, and the only thing that can stop it is more votes.

You’re full of it up to your baby browns. You must remember that the majority of Americans have careers, children, and poorly written/acted TV programs to watch. They don’t have time to sit around debating the latest unfounded rumor the Dems & Reps are throwing at each other. I dare say most people in America probably didn’t watch her acceptance speech and this choice cut from it works well as a bite-sized introduction to she who will be the Vice President of the United States.

Browncoatone on September 2, 2008 at 6:37 PM

You know who Gov. Palin looks like with her phony mannersisms in that clip? She looks like that girl running for student body president in the move Election with Mathew Broderick and whats-her-name.

I don’t think guys are seeing how this is playing to the “soccer mom.” These are women who vote on emotion. And this is even working for those working mothers who aren’t really political (most of them are not). First they see Hillary treated horribly in the primary. Now they are seeing the Dems go after this woman for something that millions of them go through every day. The woman vote is CRITICAL this year and I think we are going to get it.

I agree the feminists won’t bite, but not all women are feminist, thank goodness. In fact, I’d say hardcore feminist are a small percentage of women overall. The biggest women’s group in America is Concerned Women for America, but they get no press because they are conservative.

There are plenty of middle of the road women that were on the fence for this election that will now vote McCain. But far more important than any of that is the fact McCain has energized his base with this selection. Conservative voters alone can carry the election for McCain, if they are motivated to go to the polls and now they are.

I would have agreed with you two days ago. Yes, we all know teenage pregnancy is common nowadays, but its still not that common and certainly not desired by any “soccer mom” with daughters.

We were WINNING the experience compared to Obama argument and people acting like McCain was a year away from death were making themselves look ghoulish. This detracts from Palin’s supermom image which I hope backfires on all the lefties crowing about it.

bloggless on September 2, 2008 at 6:58 PM

I think Sarah will grab the attention of independent men and women who are yet undecided. Unfortunately, I heard on Fox today that Gallup shows undecided #s have gone down and Obama’s #s have gone up. Not sure what the exact #s are and I haven’t studied the #s myself but McCain needs to get some of them… and fast.

And I agree with those that says she is shoring up the base. MOst of the Hillary-ites will go to Obama in spite of what they say now. Their hatred of all things conservative is too great to switch en masse.

Mr_Magoo on September 2, 2008 at 6:58 PM

I have not seen this reported anywhere here yet:

BREAKING: Democrats Release Sarah Palin’s Social Security Number

The Politico has received an opposition research file from the Alaska Democrats. You can read it in PDF here.

In the file, the Democrats have released Sarah Palin’s social security number minus the last four digits. Also tied to the information are her various home addresses.

Back in 2005, Democrats used Michael Steele’s social security number to get his credit record.

It is atrocious that the Democrats would not only seek out Sarah Palin’s social security number, but release it in opposition research to the press.

We need to know who did this. We also need to know what happened. We also need to know if it was used to bolster the Democrats’ opposition research.

When it happened to Michael Steele, it turns out the Democrats knew about it and did nothing.

Come on be honest. Do you seriously think McCain ever stood a chance against BO? I certainly don’t and I doubt very much his VP pick no matter who will change that. BO will be the next president and nothing can stop it because a great many people will vote for him because they do not want to be considered racist or want to use their vote as a badge of proof that they are not racist. My mom and dad are in their mid seventies and have voted democrat all their lives but this time they can not stomach the BO ticket. They have been called racists and bigots by people they thought friends. The sad part is that my mom’s best friend for well over 20 years was a black woman. I don’t underestimate the power to manipulate people who want to fit in and be accepted. This time around the democrats have gotten a black man who is young and dynamic and is an empty suit without a history and he is the perfect weapon to bludgeon people with. McCain much to his credit tried the same thing by picking a woman but it is just not enough because people can handle being called sexist especially if she has a paper trail. What they can’t tolerate is being called a racist and that is the biggest factor in this race. BO will win and most likely it will be a landslide historic win because I’m sorry to say this but it is all about race this time around.

In your opinion, who would have been better pick? If you say Romney-this would have caused huge problems w/ the way-conservative right-for better or worse-due to his Mormanism and wouldn’t have energized anyone-Pawlenty??….I know more about Palin than I do this guy-help me understand how she is not a great pick..

Newsflash: baracka Hussein’s ticket now has more combined experience than ours!!

It was nearly impossible for Mccain to pull that off but he did.

Newsflash experience is not the solution when you get past say 20 years…”experience is the problem” Huck….

We shall see. I think there is a strong urge to make history. People also want to believe that Obama can actually deliver on all the crap he is selling. He can’t, but since he can spend the first 2 or 3 years blaming everything on Bush he might not have to.
