I never said they couldn’t become productive members of society. What I said was they would rather have someone else take their place then face the responsibility themselves.
By them taking these “deferments” they forced others to take their place.
You may consider that honorable, and you may think that 35 years excuses that, but if you were a parent whose son was killed in place of a “deferment” dodger, you wouldn’t be so easy on them. I am not talking about legitimate deferments, I am talking about serial deferments like Cheney, Biden, and yes even Mitt.
I am not saying beat the drum of this, I am saying don’t let draft dodgers off the hook.

The liberals died on that hill, though. Twice. Believe me, I understand the desire to point out every piece of evidence that Big Media has a double standard vis a vis liberal politicians and conservative politicians, but just because it was wrong of the press and the left to pursue such lines of attack against conservative politicians doesn’t make it right for us to pursue them against liberal politicians. And it’s not about turning the other cheek or “rising above”, either. It’s about going all in against the ante on a mediocre hand. The potential payoff just isn’t worth the risk.

At one time I would agree but it’s a different world and we are now playing in their game with their rules. It’s hard to accept that but it’s pretty much the reality because the world has become connected and people that never mattered now have a voice and things that would never come out now do. It’s sad we have to lower ourselves into their world we can’t drain the swamp without getting our feet wet. We can’t win this with unmovable righteous positions or by taking a knife to a gun fight. They set the agenda and we have to work within it or get the hell out of the way and let them have what they want.

Besides the issue makes him a hero to the democrats.

If Biden’s display this past weekend in PA is any indication, I wouldn’t worry about the asthma thingie…seems Biden likes to self-medicate…

In a time of war, a nation full of men people like Clinton, Biden and Barry would lay down in the fetal position and wave a white flag the size of Montana while our country is overrun by islamic terrorists.

Deferments annoy me, but spineless cowards at the helm scare the living crap out of me.

OT but…..
Back in the ancient days when I was very young I was at a family picnic and I overheard a conversation between the adults. At the time I really didn’t know what they were talking about but I think it shaped my world view later in life when I did understand. One of my great uncles said that “we should just give in because we are better off red then dead.” I think it was during the Cuba Missile event and they were all talking about surrendering. It has really stuck with me and I think warped me into the “I will fight till my dieing breath.” attitude I now have. My parents are pretty liberal and life long democrats and I’m pleased that my Dad is going to vote McCain because he can’t stomach BO who he thinks is nothing more then a con man and my mom can’t stomach Biden. Her opinion of him is kind of unprintable in polite company.

No, I do consider it an issue. I didn’t like Mitt running off to France with his deferment, and I didn’t like Cheney with his deferment.
The fact is, someone else went in their place, someone else risk their life.
They would rather sacrifice someone else for their liberty. Draft dodgers are not leadership material.

Really? Just like that? These were kids avoiding an involuntary draft over 35 years ago. There are a lot of guys who used college deferments and dubious medical conditions to avoid serving in an Army they never aspired to and in a war they didn’t support. And a lot of these kids grew up to be decent, honorable and patriotic men. I’d bet a fair portion of them are voting Republican at this point in their lives. To hold such a decision made so early in life against a person for so long is not only unfair, it has the great potential to alienate moderates who made the same decision themselves, or know others who did.

This is an issue that plays to the base only, and if anything, makes those pushing the issue seem small and petty to the moderates who we just might need to keep Obama out of the Oval Office. This is the kind of issue that, when pushed, makes it appear that those pushing it have nothing of greater substance to offer. And that’s just not true when you’ve got Joe Biden as your opponent.

Rats! I was all set to try and sucker you some more. :)

I really expected to get nailed on the National Guard and McCain stuff first as it was carefully loaded with what I thought was inflammatory stuff. I figured that because I was pro-military and tried to serve, I got discharged from Basic Training due to being injured, I knew how to trip the triggers of the pro-military crowd.

So… Biden the Chickenhawk? I can’t wait for Code Pinko to get a hold of this one.

Biden didn’t become a “draft dodger” or a deserter, and as we can see, he became a productive member of American society.

Ed.. is this some use of the word, ‘productive’ that the public isn’t aware of?
