Video: Hey, are we totally sure Palin’s a supporter of Israel?
posted at 4:05 pm on September 1, 2008 by Allahpundit
Reasonably sure, as you’ll see. (Sorry, Buchananites!) Although as lefty critic Geoff Berg notes, the fact that we’re reduced to scrutinizing podcasts like the Zapruder film for evidence of her views on foreign policy is, shall we say, less than optimal.
If you thought you liked her before, skip ahead to 4:10 and just wait. She can’t possibly be as guileless as she seems. Can she? Exit question: Hey, what kind of pin is that on her lapel, anyway? Click the image to watch.
Update: A top Orthodox Jewish rabbi in Anchorage seems to like her just fine.

She is a supporter of a America and a pro-American foreign policy. Support for Israel is in America’s interest. We support democracies. We support our friends and allies. Another dud. They’re just throwing crap against the wall not even so much to see what sticks but just to try and derail the Palinmania Express. Not working.

It’s a silly clip, but it is revealing on many levels. I love that she walks to work. I love that she likes getting “killed” by her jogging regimen. I love how everyone in Alaska simply calls her “Sarah,” including the several passers-by who very comfortably greet her in such a friendly fashion. I love that she immediately points out that the governor’s mansion is the people’s house, not her house, and she sees herself and Todd as its stewards for future generations. It upholds her claim that she sees herself as a servant of the people first and foremost. I’m pretty certain she actually believes it (gasp!).

It’s too early to tell, NP. The video portion with Gov. Palin is basically an interview where they talk about how great it would be if more people in AK, especially YOUNG people, would come down and see Juneau and the Gov’t and the buildings, etc. Sounds all nicey-nicey made for TV kinda stuff, but she sounds REALLY natural doing it… not all uncomfortable and fakey. More like this is really how she is, I wish I had a better interviewer so I could ANSWER questions, not lead them kinda vibe.
Again, time will have to tell whether this is her on camera, or her on life. *shrug*

And, don’t worry folks, part of the ‘make-over’ that Palin will get will be voice lessons. The message trumps her ‘speech voice’ anyway. They will also remove any naive notions she may have, without novacaine.
Christine on September 1, 2008 at 4:48 PM
Yeah. She does. It’s called an accent. And you know what’s funny about her annoying Alaskan accent is that it sound so very similar to the annoying Midwestern accent you hear in places like, oh, Michigan, and Ohio, and Minnesota.

Wexler’s (ill-chosen) words strike me as indicative of a (very well-justified) fear on the part of the Democrats that, between the Israel-bashing and the foaming-at-the-mouth Jew hatred that one encounters on their “grass-roots” websites, they may not be able to count on monolithic Jewish support anymore. Buchanan may be an idiot (o.k., “may be” is the wrong choice of words here), but I think Palin’s a winner.

Allah, are you OK today? All your posts of late are “Oh My God, Palin won’t be liked by (Insert group here) because of her (Insert Daughters Pregnancy, Bridge to Nowhere, Statement on VP, whatever)” Allah, take it easy, Conservatives like people who are genuine, and honest. They don’t need every answer on the tip of their tongue. They need a track record of good judgment, and a core of moral values.
That’s why Rush’s ratings didn’t get hurt when it was revealed that he had become addicted to pain killers. We understand that, you do the best you can, aiming for the stars. You may not always reach the stars, but aiming for them is always the best choice. We like challenges, and we like people who overcome them. Starr Jones is a wonderful example of this. We don’t expect less of them, or think less of people who aren’t lily white and perfect. Todd Palin’s DUI twenty two years ago was just that. A mistake made twenty two years ago. It wasn’t last week, or last month. It was a mistake, he paid for, in the 1980′s for God’s sake. None of the traditional Republican voters are going to care one whit about that.
People liked Bush because he was genuinely honest about his ideals. He waffled on a few he knew wouldn’t be popular, but that is the thing, he tried to ease the impact. However, people felt he was more honest, and had better judgment than Al Gore. He espoused basic Conservative values, lower taxes, respect for life. While I disagree with some of the things he’s done, I still feel he is essentially honest, and he’s demonstrated the type of judgment we expected in 2000.
Palin strikes me, and most people, as an intelligent woman who didn’t set out in grade school to become President. Unlike Kerry, she wasn’t talking about it forty years ago. She eloped and didn’t have a huge wedding, this is what regular people do when they want to get married and aren’t worried about form over function. That is what Palin’s biography says to America, here is a woman who is worried about function, over form. She isn’t as concerned about the little distractions. She cares about fashion, but only so much. She cares about the image, but only so far. I guess the feeling I have after reading about her this weekend is she keeps things in perspective, not assigning too much emphasis on the image, instead focusing on the true issue at hand.
Allah trust me on this one, relax. Sarah Palin just won the election for John McCain, not because she’s a woman, or in spite of it. Not because she had a baby with Down’s syndrome. But because she has through her life shown she isn’t too serious to have a little fun, and isn’t too shallow to care about the form over the function. I would have no issue with her being President. Will she be ready on day one? I don’t know, who is ever really ready? No matter how prepared you think you are, the history of our Presidency has clearly shown something will come up that you didn’t expect, and you have to exercise your best judgment about.
That is what we want from a President, someone we believe will be able to see through the distractions to the core of a situation quickly, and will grasp the importance of the event. That is what hurt Bush and the Republicans in 2005 ala Katrina. It appeared to the people that Bush didn’t grasp the importance of the event, or ignored the suffering of the citizenry. It was untrue of course, however the truth is that Bush could have stifled that image, and didn’t. He trusted the people to take it for granted that he was aware and active in the role he was elected to, President. We took a great deal for granted, that he was doing the best he could on the War on Terror, that he was looking for solutions to Iraq, and that he was not stagnant in his approach to the war. Asking the people to have unlimited faith without some proof is fine, if you’re talking about a deity. Short of a deity, the people want something more than a press secretary standing there saying something like. “The President has been, and will continue to get updates on the situation in New Orleans, and has spoken to both Mayer Nagin, and Governor Blanco.”
Invite the press in now and then to see a briefing, and see what kind of information is being discussed. Open the occasional cabinet meeting to the press, and let them televise the discussion of issues by the executive. Of course it will be denounced as scripted, and to a certain extent, it will be. However, it will create the image in people’s mind that the President is informed, aware, and concerned with the many issues that face him or her.

Her reference to “good enough for the founding fathers” can easily be understood to the multiple references to the Creator and Nature’s God in the Declaration of Independence.
Some people like to forget that an major unifying characteristic of the Founding Fathers was a deep religious sensibility.

For a candidate with so many pluses, she is amazingly likable, accessible and non-threatening. She oozes competence and organized energy.
Snicker at her PTA-to-City Council career path if you dare, but Sarah Palin wears the confidence of a seasoned administrator who welcomes tough challenges. Obama seems like a callow salesman in comparison.
My concern is that the #2 position won’t be satisfying enough for her.

Glad she has an Israeli flag in her office. However, I hope that people will not use the Republican Jewish Coalition–as Omri Ceren (in the link you provided) seems to do–as the authority on who is pro-Israel and good on terrorism. Just the opposite The Republican Jewish Coalition has a LONG history of supporting anti-Israel, pan-Islamists just ‘cuz they have an R after their name. In fact, if the RJC supports someone–especially if they feature the person at one of their events–it’s a good idea to take a second and third and fourth look.
Not saying this about Palin–I like her. But don’t trust the RJC.

She is a really great woman. Its a pity she isn’t top of the ticket.
