Video: Bill Bennett rips CNN for turning Palin’s daughter into a political football

posted at 8:35 pm on September 1, 2008 by Allahpundit

We got a bunch of excited e-mails about this leading me to think it was some sort of O’Reilly/Geraldo nuclear exchange. It’s okay — perfectly righteous about not turning Bristol Palin into some sort of springboard for a venal talking-head debate on abstinence education, but cordial and low key. The real outrage, as you’ll see, is CNN bringing up the pregnancy rumors about Palin herself as an intro to the Bristol piece. Here’s how easy it would have been for them to check that before going on air with it. Stay classy, CNN.

That clip and the Bennett clip are linked to the first image below; beneath that you’ll find a link to video of Bill Kristol getting exercised at Mort Kondracke along the same lines. Click both to watch. Exit question: Per BB’s logic, how is Palin supposed to be questioned about abstinence-only now given how close the issue hits to home? Any attempt to do so will call to mind her daughter and end up treating her like a political football, even if she isn’t specifically mentioned.

Wolf absolutely knew he was wrong. He was playing defense lawyer, more like shyster.

RBMN on September 1, 2008 at 10:15 PM

One question. The Dems are using this to score political points against Sarah Palin. What about Mr Palin? Last time I checked this was a traditional family with two parents. Why lay all the blame at the feet of Sarah?

Just A Grunt on September 1, 2008 at 10:17 PM

But…but…Bennett gambles!

Or something.

TYPICAL!!

CNN sent a reporter to Alaska to investigate internet rumors? Kos rumors? They won’t even investigate why Obama has distanced himself from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, the only executive experience he has ever had and tied directly into education. He doesn’t list it, he doesn’t mention it, and neither do they.

curious, isn’t it? Really, the whole CAC and William Ayers story would be more than enough to fill an entire hour news show, and would get blockbuster ratings. I just can’t imagine why they don’t want to pursue it.

Ack! No! I was thinking about him chewing Blitzer’s ass on CNN. I was surprised they allowed it as long as they did. But no, Bennett’s not a Dem or even a lib. Thanks for catching that.

But now I’m left wondering if Obama was the only Dem anywhere to tell people to back off of the story and Palin’s daughter.

sloopy on September 1, 2008 at 10:31 PM

I notice that CNN keep the banner announcing the pregnancy for close to an hour. I’ll bet that there were more important news to cover like, let me see, a hurricane that in my opinion demanded better coverage.

CNN, impartial Haa!

Point 1- none of the issues raised against Palin so far by any pundit, Democrat or blogger would have been raised if she were a male. The only possible exception is the experience argument, but even that has been discussed almost exclusively in the context of McCain choosing her because she is a woman.

Point 2- Time to take the leash of SarahCuda. Press conference. Tomorrow AM. 1st order of business, updates on the Gustov aftermath and relief work being conducted. Next, update on RNC and projections for the coming week. Next, take reporter questions and let her rip each one of these idiots apart.

If she can do that and show consistent, strength, class and character, the issue will end and the media will cower like the whipped dogs that they should be.

Is anybody here really surprised by anything the left does or says? Look folks, their fabrication has lost a huge lead he enjoyed just a mere few weeks ago. The frosting is off this nothing of a cup cake. Liberals will do anything to get power; anything to get power… The next (2) months are going to be all about the MSM pulling out every dirty scumbag trick ever created, or for that matter, ever thought of. Wolf Blitzer and that dirty old man Larry King, are pure 100% scumbag Liberals working for a network that literally lied through their teeth to the American people so that they could protect Saddam Hussein back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. CNN is the American version of Al Jazeera, pure progaganda spoon fed to those who thrive on being led down a road; any road, just as long as they don’t have to think for themselves.

As Obama falls further behind in the polls, Liberals will show you a version of anger & hatred that you had better be prepared for so that you don’t get yourself blind sided. These people can’t help themselves, they truly are spiritually sick people that only feel good about their lives when they have power and control. This is exactly why Ann Coulter referred to them as “Godless” creatures, and exactly why these people hate the likes of Ann & Rush so deeply. Ann & Rush don’t cower to their hatred. Quite the contrary, Ann & Rush take their hatred and use it against them by way of their own words.

Be prepared people, this crap is the tip of the iceberg. The KOS kiddies (alphies of the world) don’t come here to engage in debate, they come here to inject a piece of their sickness, a finger in your chest, a thumb in your eye. Trust me, Palin will not be blind sided by these attacks. Palin is one tough human, and will dish it out and display character while doing so! McCain will not be blind sided, he had seen the best communism has to offer.

Keemo on September 1, 2008 at 10:50 PM

that reporter for CNN that was reporting the way she did is a scuz!

ConservativePartyNow on September 1, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Good Lord. These people act as if the teens in this country all live in a cave. This sex stuff is plastered everywhere in this society. Any teen who doesn’t get the message on how to keep from getting pregnant, would have to be living in a closet. Get real. They’re going to do it, it’s their choice not to take precautions(although a stupid one), and no amount of “sex education” is going to change that. Ask any mother of a teen!

hopefloats on September 1, 2008 at 11:11 PM

McCain will not be blind sided, he had seen the best communism has to offer.

QFT- McCain has been one step ahead for the entire GL so far. The media and Democrats have done everything in their power to write him off, but he keeps coming out with a new wrinkle each week… then the S-Bomb on Friday.

The announcement today was clearly planned in advance to try and cut down on it’s impact. Plus, by doing through issuing a statement, the talking heads can only spin senseless webs of gossip about it.

But I still say they need to get Sarah in front of a camera ASAP. She needs to be seen in a leadership role and a press conference tomorrow would be ideal. Like I said- updates on hurricane relief efforts and RNC schedule… take a few questions. The media will ignore the hurricane and RNC and swoop in like vultures. Even if she simple says- “that was addressed in my statement yesterday and the rest is a private, family matter” she wins HUGE. Redirect back on topic and deftly handle softballs on the weather and RNC schedule.

Issue is over that fast and she comes making the entire media pool her bitches while smiling.

With or without school led sex ed, I think Palin’s daughter knew that without a condom, she could get pregnant. Teens are notariously impulsive. I had sex ed in school and I learned nothing that I didn’t already know. Is there really anything being taught in schools today that kids don’t know? My guess is that they could teach the class themselves. Every 16 or 17 year old knows that sex can lead to a baby and every 16 or 17 year old thinks in the heat of the moment that it won’t happen to them. The family is sticking together and loving each other unconditionally and that is something that isn’t taught in school. The media needs to back off this girl. It is only going to help McCain, but it comes at too high a price.

Which one of the 72 Democrat virgins wants to throw the first stone?

You left out boycotting McDonald’s too as they promote the homosexual agenda.

I am going to assume that Alaska is like any other state and that Palin’s daughter was exposed to as much graphic sex-ed and how-to texts as any other student anywhere.

If this actually turns out to be the case then this is just another example of the failure of these programs.

And what has happened to Kondrake? Lately he seems about ready to pull out an Uzi and spray the panels?

flicker on September 2, 2008 at 5:37 AM

Allah,

Thank you for posting the Kristol-Kondracke clip. I watched that live yesterday and couldn’t believe Mort Kondracke could sink so low. While I disagree with him on many issues, up until yesterday I thought he was a decent man. I was so glad Bill Kristol fired back. As another commenter pointed out on a different thread, people like Mort are under the misguided impression that every pregnancy that has ever taken place was planned and expected. It’s not as if birth control has ever been known to fail, right? Regardless, his speculation as to whether or not Bristol and her boyfriend used protection was absolutely outrageous.

I’m sick of hearing this “blame” garbage!
The young woman is having a baby END OF STORY. The media gave more respect to the clown Patrick Kennedy who got himself drugged up and drove like Stevie Wonder through downtown DC.

Are we going to start going after Dems because their children to keep strict adherence to the platform their parents hold?

What this shows is the ABSOLUTE adherence to family values and commitment. The libs and left are pissed because it shows the courage and commitment the Palen’s and her daughter have to Family, Family Values and Life and they hate it.

186k on September 2, 2008 at 6:16 AM

I think it’s deplorable to use the example of ONE teenage girl to make any sort of point on sex ed. It’s insulting to the intellect of everyone watching. And if they don’t think it comes off as a thinly veiled attack on Palin then they are complete fools.

This has the potential to really backfire on the MSM.

twoarmman on September 2, 2008 at 6:32 AM

OK, so if one teenager gets pregnant after having been taught abstinence only, then the whole program should be scrapped, according to Mort. It makes me wonder how many girls have gotten pregnant after being taught full-on sex ed. Zero?

Kafir on September 2, 2008 at 7:12 AM

I for one was waiting for Todd Palin to jump his snow machine through the CNN roof and behead Wolf Blitzer. Seriously, he is now officially an asshole. So CNN investigates blog rumors, huh? Okay. Michelle Obama is secretly a man. I expect a full report on CNN by the end of the day. Go get ’em, Wolf.
