Trippi to Democrats: Don’t laugh off Palin

Joe Trippi has had a couple of days to consider John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as running mate, and he has thought better of his initial response. The man who created the Howard Dean on-line phenomenon warns his fellow Democrats not to underestimate Palin as some hick-town rube. Instead, Trippi sees McCain’s real purpose:
McCain picked in Palin someone who has taken on the corruption in the GOP in Alaska, turned against her own party’s establishment, and fought for reform.
The McCain/Palin duo will challenge Barack Obama’s claim of “a new kind of politics” and chastise Obama and Democratic vice presidential Nominee, Joe Biden, for their “silence” in taking on corruption in their own party in Illinois, Delaware and Washington, DC.
The McCain campaign intends to claim that “more of the same” in Washington means Barack Obama and Joe Biden and will make the argument that if you want to “shake things up” then McCain and his reform minded running mate from Alaska will get the job done.
My initial reaction was that in picking Palin, McCain had taken away the argument that Barack Obama wasn’t ready to be president. I now think my initial assessment on that score was wrong. Over time, the McCain team will insinuate that if you think a first-term Governor isn’t ready for the number 2 slot, are your really sure that a first-term Senator is ready for the number 1 spot?
Maybe Trippi spent some time at Hot Air this weekend. After all, I explained this on Friday morning after her selection had been confirmed. While the Left continued to spin conspiracy theories about Palin’s children and laugh at her for winning a beauty contest as a teen, the mainstream media started to figure out McCain’s purpose the next day. By that time, we had already shown how Obama’s attacks on Palin’s experience boomerang against his own utter lack of executive, military, and diplomatic experience.
At any rate, this shows that reality has begun to dawn for the Left. The massive support for Palin on the campaign trail, the enormous fundraising boost, and the sinking poll numbers for Obama point to the conclusion that McCain made a wise choice. He will attack Obama at his supposed strength and point out what a pair of empty suits the Democratic nominees are on reform and change.
Trippi says that Democrats will make a mistake in ridiculing Palin. Unfortunately, just like his analysis, it comes at least a day late.

solutely that is why they went so psycho.
McCain pulled a helluva feint and is way inside their OODA loop.
with Palin:
1) he stifled their convention
2) he unified his base
3) he nailed the radical left feminists
4) he generated a burst of fundraising becuse of 2
5) he has cornered Obama on “change” and “well experience don’t matter holmes”
McCain is playing 3d chess Barry checkers…..the M$M fawning over him prevented O’bama from having to develop foresight and I think may just wind up costing Barry the election….
M$M goes 3 for 3 in the 21st century

I had assumed they had checked out the trooper story a little more thoroughly than he reports, since Ed had posted on it about a month ago, it wasn’t exactly a surprise. Still, they’re going to have to come up with more than one phone call by a surrogate saying “Sarah and Todd are scratching their heads as to why this guy is still representing the department” to show that she abused her power to get this guy canned (and offered another job).

The more they trash Gov. Palin the more people will rally around her – especially women. The Dems would be really stupid to infuriate female voters more than they already have.
That said, I fully expect them to keep it up.

Yeah the Democrats are always trailing public opinion, they are out of touch with the majority of Americans. They put the Progressives in charge Dean,Pelosi,Reid. Big Mistake, these people are not Middle of America, down the Middle of the road and they have sold their souls to George Soros, so they can’t maneuver easily politically to counter punch the Palin pick.
Will the Democrat finally hit rock bottom so it can be rebuilt in the traditional Democrat Platform? Not as long as they are on the Soros juice.

The “TrooperGate” scandal is a complete and utter non-story. Even if they had pressured the guy to fire the Trooper it would have been completely justified considering what he’s been proven to have done. And the Governor is able to fire the Public Safety commissioner for whatever reason she wants. Add in the fact that it was many months have the entire issue had blown over that he was fired, the fact that he was offered another job, and the fact that Sarah Palin is completely cooperating with the investigation and it is a non-issue.
Oh and the tape that got the whole thing started in which an aide of Palin’s was released by Sarah Palin herself.

The Dems and liberals have and will continue to underestimate the McCain/Palin ticket until it eats their lunch. Then they will get even more vicious than we have already seen, if that is possible.
As to the capabilities of Sarah Palin, I borrow and paraphase a comment from a poster at Small Dead Animals: Unlike VP Cheney, if Sarah Palin shoots somebody they will stay down.
IOW, figuratively, Biden is toast.

The penny drops. Although maybe Mr. Trippi had the benefit of a Jesuit education, and so could reason out logically that if an 8-year [?] mayor and 2-year governor is inexperienced, then it also follows that a first-year senator is inexperienced. Who cares about a “heartbeat away” compared with the actual heartbeat?
He also left out that Palin’s experience is in the executive branch, and didn’t consist of voting ‘present’, and so is more applicable; and that it’s better for her as the GOP’s No.2 to be ‘learning on the job’ and less dangerous to the country than for their No.1 to be ‘learning on the job’.
andycanuck on September 1, 2008 at 10:18 AM
Obama is a victim of an overly long campaign. The guy’s been running for president now for two years and the novelty is wearing off. Ironically, rather than being seen as the new voice and the candidate of change, he’s increasingly being seen as part of the status quo!
So along comes the fresh face of Sarah Palin and the public looks at her and thinks, “well, here’s something NEW and novel. Wouldn’t it be a nice change to have HER in office?”
As Palin gets introduced this week at the convention, expect one of the topics discussed by the pundits to be how Palin has taken some of the glamour from Obama’s candidacy.
And really, w/out the glamour, what exactly is Obama running on?

Did the Dems never see the absurdity of running a politician out of the Daley political machine? Saying Richard J Daley (Sr or Jr) or Cook County to any adult (over 40, at least), and the usual connection is corruption, not change.
The GOP should portray Obama as a product of the Cook County Daley political machine every time the Dems try to connect McCain to Bush.

All these people dissing Palin now will be embarrassed in 20 years. She’s really going to be a superstar of American politics for a long time. I’m sick and tired of Washingtonians thinking they are ‘better than everyone’ because they live in Washington. Palin is no dumber than anyone else who might have been living in DC as an elected official for the last 40 years (Biden, Pelosi, Reid, and Clinton I’m talking to you).
ThackerAgency on September 1, 2008 at 10:27 AM
Palin has something that the democrats have no conception of…..integrity. This is compounded by the fact that Obama, being a brainwashed Daly lap dog, sold his “call for change” out by brnging a dinosaur with 36 years of political corruption to his team. Obama may be right that Congress is broken, but Biden removes all doubt that it is just TALK.

Covering both options with a back-handed compliment:
It’s an overstated projection to either whine or wish “McCain is toast” over whatever the national media dumps of its own onto Palin.
McCain was already inching ahead of Obama before EITHER announced their VP.

I read the Flopping Aces timeline, and it was reassuring, thanks. My only concern is that she has pissed off a lot of people in the establishment of Alaska, and they could use the timing of the investigation report (Friday before the election) to issue some trumped up findings that won’t hold up to closer scrutiny, but by the time they get worked out it will be too late. Have they stopped thinking critically of Obama and so his obvious weaknesses are no long apparent to them? Have they created mental images of him that bare little resemblances to reality?
Regardless of why, they have a huge blind-spot when it comes to Obama and that’s going to continue to hurt them down the stretch.
The Palin pick has brought out the absolute worst in the Left. A lot of people who lean to their side are listening and don’t like what they are hearing.

All she needs to be is genuine and likable. If they attack her for petty things it will only draw people for the majority of the political spectrum closer to her. The same thing happened with Reagan. Every time the Left and media attacked him unfairly his popularity went up. She has that same q-factor based on what I have seen thus far – which, I fully admit, isn’t a lot.

Obama’s idea of changing a “broken Congress” is picking someone who has been involved in “breaking it” for 36 years. Obama is so shallow, he is embarrassing. Except for the second-to-the-last paragraph, if I didn’t know any better, Kirsten Powers (an Alaska native) may be putting her pitcher of Kool-Aid back in the refrigerator.
That aside, I’m trying to restrain myself, but Palin has Sheriff Andy Taylor written all over her. David and Goliath, N.C. State-Houston (1983), Hoosiers, Georgetown-Villanova (1986), U.S.-U.S.S.R. 1980 Olympic hockey, you name the successful underdog scenario.
Some are rolling out the Bentsen-Quayle debate comparisons, but Bentsen was a senatorial giant. Biden largely has tenure granted by a small-state. More important, Biden has a delightful penchant for stepping into it all too often. Palin will likely fumble a pronunciation or two along the way, but I cannot resist thinking that this turns out like Rambo in First Blood. Biden and Obama won’t know what hit them.

I’m beginning to get really irritated by the way these pundits are dealing with the Palin nomination. This week we’ve learned that:
1. The only experience that counts in life occurs within the DC Beltway. You can be the most intelligent and succuessful person in the world but if you did it outside the shadow of the Capitol, then you are woefully unprepared to be in public office.
2. Republican women can’t be mothers and politicians at the same time. Presumably because Republican women actually raise their children unlike “mothers” like Hillary Clinton who essentially dropped her child off at the village on the way to the pants suit shop.
3. Apparently Alaskans are too backwards and remote from America to lead but multi-racial candidates raised in Hawaii and God knows where else should be handed the Presidency by acclamaition.

The Dems problem is that while Palin is at risk to stumble in her one debate with Biden, Obama has to debate McCain three times (without a teleprompter). The potential for more bad soundbites coming from the top of the Dem’s ticket is greater than for the bottom of the GOP’s. And the presidential debates will probably pull in larger live audiences, too.

Trippi may have gotten his analysis right, but the problem is the great majority of the Democratic Party — including the man he worked for in 2004 — will never acknowledge what he’s saying.
A large part of what makes up the mindset of the Democratic Party’s hardcore is that they are smarter than 99 percent of Republicans, who are morons like George W. Bush, and are led by the 1 percent of the GOP who are intelligent and more evil than Hitler, like Dick Cheney. To think of Palin as anything other than a dumb small-town rube too stupid to come in out of the rain or a scheming fascist murderer who wants to enslave the nation and destroy America’s freedoms would be to call into question their own sense of self-esteem.
They HAVE to be smarter than Sarah Palin because the left obvious is home to human beings of superior intellect and moral character. And if Sarah’s smart, she must be evil, and even the left is smart enough not to go there (yet) with accusations like that to the voting public at large.

serving time as Senator or a Congressman should disqualify you from running for the executive branch.

I donnoe Manly…. As I recall, most of the team used to see the medic post haste; at the first sign of any rash.
That was the jungle then, your sofa may be bacteria free now, I hope!

That’s quite convenient a_c; another physical location to recharge your batteries…!

Do tell. What significant percentage of each paycheck are you donating to the development of alternative energies? Huh, cupcake?

I’m not so sure. To be afraid of something means that you have assessed it, understood it, perceived its strengths versus your weaknesses. That is a rational process that I don’t think they have done yet.
Their are attacks are not well considered objections but instinctive lunges at something that didn’t hatch within their own seething, wriggling brood. Hence the ridiculous pregnancy speculation and their inability to grasp that if Mrs Palin is too inexperienced then their beloved Mr Obama even more so.
Not scared, not worried, possibly rabid.

Aw shucks Manly, you’re big and definitely broad enough to handle an olde geezer like me; by your own self.
You can leave the A Team frolicking in the hay barn…!

Golly gee- I recognized this strategy two days ago, and McCain stated as much over the weekend.
Boy! The Left sure is sharp! It only took them 3 days to realize the McCain Camps talking points- and just HOW EFFECTIVE THEY WILL BE.
I’ve said it before and I will repeat it again:
Barry O is playin’ checkers-
Maverick is playing CHESS-
Check-Mate my friends- Check-Mate!

Will the Democrat finally hit rock bottom so it can be rebuilt in the traditional Democrat Platform?
