RNCC, McCain organizing storm relief

Just a few minutes ago, I spoke with Tom Steward, the spokesman for the John McCain campaign in the Northern Mountain region, about the changing plans for the Republican convention. I fortuitously caught him just as he received an update on the efforts at the RNCC to assist the people hit by Hurricane Gustav. Tom read the details that he had just received from his Blackberry:

Tom forwarded me the details while I was editing the spot for upload. Note that they will try to get relief to a number of states hit by storms in recent days. The McCain campaign has a new website, Cause Greater, to direct fundraising efforts:

The governors of the five states have recommended charitable organizations that are helping with relief efforts. We are working to coordinate and encourage donations to these groups.

Louisiana: AidMatrix

Governor Jindal directs visitors to his website to AidMatrix, a leading aid organization that mobilizes more than $1.5 billion in aid annually, worldwide. The donated goods, money and services benefit the lives of more than 65 million people.

Mississippi: Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund

The Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund has been set up by Governor Haley Barbour to serve as the state’s central clearinghouse for corporations, organizations, and individuals to donate much needed money, equipment, goods, services, volunteers, and time to the hundreds of thousands of Mississippians who may be affected by Hurricane Gustav.

Alabama: Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund

In preparation for the possibility of Hurricane Gustav impacting Alabama, Governor Bob Riley and the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives are accepting offers of goods, volunteers, and financial donations.

Texas: Texas Responds

When activated by the State of Texas, Texas Responds serves as the State Portal for non-cash donations, such as goods and services.

Florida: Florida Disaster Fund

The mission of the Florida Disaster Recovery Fund is to raise funds to help Floridians recover from natural disasters by strengthening families and rebuilding communities.

Ed, did you break Hot Air again? The blog posts are missing. :(

Tuning Spork on September 1, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Now we have political parties to look to for disaster relief?

The GOP is pandering just to head off criticism.

This is sick really. but I understand how your hand is forced when the opposing party can, in concert with the MSM blame your party for weather and actually make that absurdity stick.

TheSitRep on September 1, 2008 at 1:57 PM

“break hot air” sounds a lot like “breaking wind”. maybe you should re-phrase that. ;-)

Ed, you broke Hot Air again

Lance Murdock on September 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM

Well….. I guess we have broken the blog..

..good excuse to get some work done…

The hurricane is starting to look like a dud, and this “hurricane relief” is starting to look opportunistic.

BTW, use “Wonderful World” by Joey Ramone, a die-hard Republican, at the Convention.

indythinker on September 1, 2008 at 2:05 PM

Liberals are falling all over themselves in glee at the shutdown of the Republican convention and declaring that God is on their side. Normal Americans, however, are praying for relief for those affected by the hurricane and looking for ways to help. The contrast couldn’t be more stark.

My two cents:

Consider shutting down the comments on the Bristol thread and directing commenters here. It’s run its course, and this is far more important.

Thanks for the links.

Funny!

Olbermann sent to NY covering Gustav; bad dog! Down boy!

Gregory to sit beside Chris Matthews at the RNC Convention. Gregory Glee Club with Chris’ tingle-less leg gone to sleep. Now, to see how ugly or decent any of them can manage to appear on camera.

The GOP is pandering just to head off criticism.

Agreed.

Can’t they see how obvious they are?

alphie on September 1, 2008 at 2:26 PM

Visit the RNC Convention Website with a LOAD of approved GOP ads.

Johnny Ramone was the Republican. The other Ramones were either libs or uninterested in politics.

Just out of curiosity, what’s Obama up to today?

taznar on September 1, 2008 at 2:27 PM

The GOP Convention hosts care-package packing activities for attendee participation in organizing and sending aid and relief to Gustav victims.

Good work, Country First.

Obama news:

***
Global Labor and Politics (blog) by Steve Diamond, 9/1/08.

Not much has been heard from Obama on labor issues and he prefers to “dial in” his lectures to labor groups rather than show up in person as he did recently to the teachers’ unions.

On the Democratic Convention: Will Obama Keep His Promise on Merit Pay for Teachers?
By Lance T. Izumi

Mr. Obama has rightly drawn praise for his courage to push merit pay in front of teacher-union audiences. The question now is whether he would allow his union allies to limit the parameters of merit pay, turning his good intentions into less-than-effective policy.

***

On smearing other candidates’ families, Obama cheers behind the curtains while maintaining his public absence and silence rather than keeping his slashers on any leash.
BHO modus operandi for the record.

McCain organizing storm relief

Change we can believe in.

Why not domestic disaster relief…?

I’m certain you’re aware of the fine steady hand Senator McCain and his chief foreign policy advisor played in that dicey situation last week in the country of Georgia…?

“We’re all Georgians today…”—Senator John McCain

The Ruskies pulled up trou and headed for them thar hills to the north, you betcha…!

Real quick…!

J_Gocht on September 1, 2008 at 2:52 PM

Alphie – STFU already. You would be posting some offensive nonsense if the GOP had their convention as planned. I honestly cannot understand how you seem to revel in being patently offensive. I gess, like most children, you behave badly for the attention. Well you got it from me once and never again.

HawaiiLwyr on September 1, 2008 at 3:23 PM

Go John…..

make sure ALL areas impacted get your aid visibly.

sven10077 on September 1, 2008 at 3:46 PM

Hope these efforts are mentioned during the RNC convention. The defunct [drive-by] media certainly will not publish them.

DannoJyd on September 1, 2008 at 4:39 PM

The liberals have got to be steaming mad about this.

“Why didn’t we take the lead on hurricane relief?!”

“WE’re the real party of the people, not the Republicans!”
