Reports: McCain camp only starting to fully vet Palin now? Update: 25 people vetted her, says Team McCain

True or not? I’ll give you the “facts” as I’ve collected them and let you decide for yourself.
1. A guy named Andrew Halcro claimed this morning that eight people from Team McCain are checked into the local hotel in Wasilla and are poring through records. Who’s Halcro? He’s the independent who lost the gubernatorial race to her two years ago, and who was quoted sneering at her inability to articulate coherent policies in this weekend’s NYT. Not worth believing, right?
2. Wrong. ABC and NBC are also reporting that McCain’s people are on their way up there to try to beat the press to any hidden dirt.
3. Marc Ambinder claims to know from sources inside the McCain campaign that they’ve already been blindsided by the fact that she requested earmarks as mayor of Wasilla, that she supports a windfall profits tax, and that she doesn’t believe in man-made global warming. I’m skeptical about the last two; her positions are easily researchable on Google, as is the fact that she initially supported the bridge to nowhere. But like I asked this morning, if they knew about the bridge reversal, why’d they let her tout it on Friday knowing that it’d end up being gotcha’d?
4. Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager, told WaPo this weekend that none of the final VP contenders were vetted more or less than the others and that all of them were subjected to a records review and FBI background check. Minor problem: The FBI says it didn’t do a background check on Palin (or on any other candidate, for that matter). Maybe Davis meant a background check equivalent to what the FBI routinely does for government employees?
5. Mark Halperin’s asking a lot of unanswered questions here that make it sound like he already knows, or has reason to know, the answer to each one is “no.”
Maybe McCain does know all the dirt already, like he apparently knew about Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy, and simply decided the upside was worth the risk. Or maybe he decided that since he was gambling the election by picking someone so inexperienced anyway, they might as well cut corners on the vetting on the assumption that there’s only so much trouble a hockey mom could have gotten herself into. I don’t think the public is so process-oriented that they’ll draw any sharp conclusions about his judgment in not fully vetting her; I think the risk is that she’ll die a death of a thousand cuts as the media exposes and then inflates a bunch of exceedingly venial sins (the Troopergate investigation being a notable exception), incorporating them into a larger narrative about how America can’t take a chance on a VP who might have outstanding parking tickets that no one even knows about. The point, in other words, isn’t to prove that she’s evil or corrupt, which she almost certainly isn’t; it’s simply to grasp at all available straws, no matter how short, and bundle them together in an “unknown quantity” narrative so that she’s perpetually on the defensive about such important matters as why she didn’t oppose the bridge to nowhere early enough. It’s the best possible contrast for Biden, too. Love him or loathe him, he’s been in D.C. since the Mesozoic Era. WYSIWYG. But Sarah Palin — did you know she served on the board of a 527 for Ted Stevens three years ago? Why, I’ll bet Joe Biden’s never even spoken to Ted Stevens.
Here’s the newest tidbit, straight out of the chute from ABC about a party Palin quit 12 years ago. Expect to hear the name “Robert Byrd” invoked tomorrow in the context of youthful political indiscretions subsequently forgiven by our progressive superiors. Exit question: Assuming, hypothetically, that I wanted to stop sniffing glue, this would be the wrong week for it, no?
Update: Politico puts it in perspective. The “ordinary gal” forcefield is a powerful shield indeed:
“Authenticity is the most important characteristic for someone seeking public office,” said Nick Ayers, executive director of the Republican Governors Association. “Any news that comes out about her is not going to hurt her because it reinforces the point that she is authentically one of us.”…
Even the governor’s own Troopergate scandal, in which Palin is alleged to have exerted undue pressure to fire a state trooper, is suffused with an element that many families can identify with: one sister stepping in on behalf of another in an acrimonious dispute with a brother-in-law.
Powerful media organizations are beginning to pour resources into this story, so much more damaging twists and turns may await. But assuming the accusations don’t grow more serious, it is of a considerably different nature as an abuse of power than the last Troopergate scandal to rock the political world — the one in which Bill Clinton was alleged to use his state troopers in Arkansas to procure women as sex partners. That wouldn’t excuse Palin’s actions, of course, but it would frame them in such a way that could limit the political damage.
Update: Team Maverick tries to soothe a jumpy blogger’s fraying nerves.
Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser, said the campaign always planned to send a “jump team” to the eventual running mate’s home state to work with the nominee’s staff, help with information requests from local and national reporters, and answer questions about documents that were part of the review.
Culvahouse said Palin’s review, like others, began with a team of two dozen people culling information from public sources. The team reviewed speeches, financial records, tax information, litigation, investigations, ethical charges, marriages and divorces, for a number of potential running mates.
For Palin specifically, the team studied online archives of the state’s largest newspapers, including the Anchorage Daily News, but didn’t request paper archives for Palin’s hometown newspaper for fear the secret review would become public…
Palin then was sent a personal data questionnaire with 70 “very intrusive” questions, Culvahouse said. She also was asked to submit a number of years of federal and state tax returns. The campaign also checked her credit.

It’s way too early to know for sure, but frankly, I’m starting to get the sense that Sarah has more teflon than a dozen Reagans. Yes, she needs to perform well from here out, but all these “closet skeletons” don’t seem to be having any of the effect they might have on any other candidate. This may well be a very, very unique phenomenon playing out right now.
Tengripundit on September 1, 2008 at 8:32 PM
So far the biggest thing vetted on Palin, is that she wasn’t vetted.
And THAT is a game-ender!
So we already lost I guess………..
FiveWays on September 1, 2008 at 8:32 PM
This is why we get such crappy candidates. Who in their right mind would want to put themselves and their families through what these people are going through?
Sue on September 1, 2008 at 8:32 PM
Time to nut up, close ranks, and push to victory instead of demanding nonstop perfection.
Unless it is catastrophic stuff I’m still with Sarah!
sven10077 on September 1, 2008 at 8:32 PM
Sarah Palin’s libertarian impulses are a big plus, as far as I’m concerned. Many Republicans pay eloquent lip service to Reaganism, but she has actually lived and governed as a Reaganite.
The AIP association is consistent with her actions as governor to sue over the polar bears, advocate for drilling in ANWR and elsewhere, and with her Lt. Gov. to promote a land swap with the Feds to facilitate drilling.
What a fascinating life story. I can’t wait for the next chapter.

sven10077 on September 1, 2008 at 8:33 PM
BTW what sort of scandels can you find in Alaska ? Did she emeet with lobbiests or work with a known terrorists or attend a church with a Pastor who screamed “God DMN America ?”
William Amos on September 1, 2008 at 8:33 PM
I will take “Authenticity” over “Seasoned Political Hack” any day, and I believe the American people will as well.
Let the Left and MSM dig through her trash to find a used tampon to try to use against her. You know what, I also believe that the American people are tired of that crap as well!
20 years ago, it might of worked, but not today, just ask Dan Rather.
For every petty, little, small, vicious, snark, elitist, nonsensical attack against Sarah Palin, watch her approval ratings soar.
Wasn’t it Hillary’s campaign that said, “Don’t hit the girl“?
And don’t tell me that the American people aren’t tired of sending politicians to Washington because they believed in their message, only to see those politicians swallowed up by the beltway, the cocktail parties, the lobbyists, the reporters, the Sunday news shows, and then……… compromise. Compromise always to the Left, never to the Right.
I’m telling you Allah, besides authenticity, Sarah Palin brings something else to the ticket that has caused the power brokers behind the scenes to start to sweat………. we see her as one of us, and American citizen, not a politician.

AntonK on September 1, 2008 at 8:34 PM
This is getting annoying. I haven’t read all the responses but it gets tedious reading the same lies, misrepresentations, spinning without any one rebutting them. I think people would get more accurate and in depth information on these issue from BeldarBlog. AP you complain about a nervous stomach but how do you think your readers feel when every lede and story makes it look like the end of Palins campaign, and wrongly so?
Blake on September 1, 2008 at 8:34 PM
Andrew Halcro-from Wiki:
“..he ran as an Independent because he did not believe that he could win a party nomination in the Alaska Republican Party’s closed primary system given his prior loss of the chairmanship post at the national level and his closer associations with the Democratic orginization since 2002.”
Marc Ambinder-from his Atlantic bio:
“He spent four years in the ABC News Political Unit as a reporter, researcher and a field producer, and was one of the founders of ABC’s “The Note,” which, for a time, achieved co-biblical status in Washington with the Hotline. Marc is an associate editor at the Atlantic, where he writes an award-winning daily political blog and contributes to the magazine. He is also a contributing editor to National Journal. In late 2007, he was named chief political consultant to CBS News. He’s a 2001 graduate of Harvard and lives in Washington, D.C.”
Maybe the “sources” should be vetted.

Palins biggest potential negative is how she reacts in the spotlight. So far, fine.
The rest is noise, even her positions on earmarks and stuff.
This is about direction for 4 years and only McCain can make that sale.

Okay. Is the pipeline mean that everything is green lighted for flow of new or is that more efficient transfer of already tapped-in-to resources? 242 reads to me like it’s open for new development, am I right?
Where does the oil companies and the Fed come into play? Is that federal property leased out or is it Alaskan property leased out?
Spirit of 1776 on September 1, 2008 at 8:39 PM
This is from the WaPo article that Allah mentioned:
Far from being a last-minute tactical move or a second choice when better known alternatives were eliminated, Palin was very much in McCain’s thinking from the beginning of the selection process, according to McCain’s advisers. The 44-year-old governor made every cut as the first list of candidates assembled last spring was slowly winnowed. The more McCain learned about her, the more attracted he was to her as someone who shared his maverick, anti-establishment instincts.
“He looked at her like a kindred spirit,” said one close adviser, who declined to be identified in order to speak more freely. “Someone who wasn’t afraid to take tough positions.”
Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager and the person at the point of the vice presidential process, said there was no abrupt change of course in the final hours. Nor, he said, was Palin selected without having gone through the full vetting process that was done for other finalists. That process included reviews of financial and other personal data, an FBI background check and considerable discussion among the handful of McCain advisers involved in the deliberations.
“Nobody was vetted less or more than anyone in the final stages, and John had access to all that information and made the decision,” Davis said. “It’s really not much more complicated than that.”
In part to blunt criticism that McCain had pulled a last-minute switch and turned to Palin without all the information he may have needed to make a decision, some of those advisers shared details yesterday about the steps that led to McCain’s choice, mostly on a not-for-attribution basis.
Truth is there is probably stuff on all of them. Romney, Pawlenty, Ridge. The press will invent it if it does not exist.
Terrye on September 1, 2008 at 8:39 PM
The AIP stuff is probably going to hurt a little, since the connections are pretty recent (she sent a video to their last state convention) and the party maintains some really nutty links – there’s video out there of the party’s vice chair claiming that Palin still largely agrees with them (on what?) at a secessionist conference (also attended by the League of the South, Christian Exodus, etc.) Along with the Buchanan stuff and the nice things she has to say about Ron Paul, her opponents are going to make it look like she’s way off on the fringe. It’s a bad narrative, to use the language of the opposition.
Big S on September 1, 2008 at 8:39 PM
I called out Palin months ago. For the simple fact she is a red blooded American and not a politician. And not the fact she is an Alaskan… Allah, Ed and Brian even post that the McCain party was looking into her months ago.
Ask anyone in here. Or look for yourself.
As for you and your self rightousness. I have other things to deal with… attitudes are by far not on my agenca. Have a great day.
upinak on September 1, 2008 at 8:39 PM
Bill Clinton’s popularity INCREASED after he got caught red-handed and was finally forced to confess to much more embarrassing and damaging news.
Why?
Because he wasn’t surrounded by a bunch of frightened “omigod” chickens. Rather he had practically every Democrat walking boldly with him showing the support he needed to have, whether he deserved that support or not.
Unfortunately, such assuring stoutheartedness appears not to exist on our side, as evidenced by this constant end-of-the-world, all-is-lost forehead slapping.
jay12 on September 1, 2008 at 8:39 PM
Obama has set the bar so low for candidate vetting that nothing that comes out of Palin’s past is likely to torpedo the campaign. Yes, McCain may have followed suit and lowered the bar, like Obama, but he hasn’t lowered it any further. After all, Palin never associated with the likes of Rezko, Wright, and Ayers. Kos and Huff can huff and puff, but they will not bring down this candidacy.

If you are going to make an issue out of every strange or weird group that shows up in the state house of just about any state, then all is lost. No Governor could survive that.

sven10077 on September 1, 2008 at 8:42 PM
This gal could have descended from heaven flanked by angels with a great voice declaring she is THE ONE and the MSM along with their Democrat allies would find some “scandal” to harp about.
So let me get this straight:
1. Her brother-in-law is a dick and some people in her office (perhaps even without her knowledge) tried to get him fired.
2. Her daughter got knocked up but plans to marry the sperm donor.
3. Her husband had a DUI 22 freaking years ago (was this before or after they were married? I know most guys straighten up after they’re married) and not one since.
4. She plead no contest to a fishing violation that some idiot decided to record as a felony.
5. She once wore a T-shirt printed with “I may be broke but at least I’m not flat busted”
6. She admits to having consumed a controlled substance in her youth.
7. She, unlike any other politician in the states, actually pursued Federal money for local projects while an elected official!
8. And she only has a decade more executive experience than the Democratic Potus candidate.
I’m thinking that maybe the Democrats need some help here. They obviously can’t make up a scandal out of whole cloth that will stick, and there doesn’t seem to be many true scandals for them to work with, so I think we should give them a hand and invent some new scandals for them to use. How about:
1. She secretly worships the devil! Can’t go wrong with that one when dealing with bitter, gun clinging bible-bangers!
2. She doesn’t floss her teeth but every other day! How can we trust her to lead the free world if we can’t even trust her with basic oral hygine?
3. She doen’t police her brass! That’s right, she’s littered the pristine wilderness of Alaska with her filthy spent casings as she has brutally murdered large herbavoirs!
4. Her glasses are fake! That’s right, she doesn’t have a prescription for eye-glasses she just wears those mock glasses to cultivate the “girl next door” / “naughty librarian” look!
5. Sara Palin is really Karl Rove in (a really good) disguise! That’s right, Crafty Karl, that magnificent bastard, has disguised himself (horns and tail retracted of course) as a looker from Alaska to ensure the EVIL Republicans retain control of the Presidency!
Now your turn. Go on, it’s very theraputic.
Browncoatone on September 1, 2008 at 8:42 PM
OK, I think we all need to calm down here, look at who the “sources” are and remember the lack of substance in any of their previous ‘allegations’.
Also, just the other night we heard a prior allegation of “not vetting” because someone went to the newspaper’s office and found no one else had been there before him.
Problem was – newspaper records are available in libraries and the paper’s website had an online archive that went back decades.

A little perspective is needed, IMO. The web is like a massive political rumor mill. A lot of people are paying scant attention to what goes on here, while we treat it like it’s life or death with each new item that comes down the pike.
With Palin, people will see a woman with guts and a great family who has worked hard. She’s got charisma and you can’t underestimate that in politics. If she’s got the grit to endure the initial onslaught, which I think she does, then this, too, shall pass.
And I still want to know who’ll play Biden in debate prep. William Amos suggested Danny DeVito which would certainly be interesting.
INC on September 1, 2008 at 8:45 PM
Then do me a favor up. If you’re truly interested in civil discourse don’t excommunicate certain conservatives for being wary of another beating from headmaster John. Secondly, don’t project Obama on everyone. Some of us are sure of our political masculinity. Finally, self-righteousness is the only thing I’m good at. Can’t a man have one vice?
Cold Steel on September 1, 2008 at 8:45 PM
The difference: Nobody put anyone with ties to them on the national ticket. The standards are higher in national politics, and if these people seem like kooks in Texas, they’re not going to wear well at all in some less “nationalistic” states. I’m not claiming that Palin is a secessionist nut. I am claiming that she will be portrayed as sympathetic to them by the political opposition and that such a portrayal has the potential to hurt the McCain-Palin ticket. Country first, indeed.

I don’t think it is cheerleading at all. For months I have listened to people do nothing but complain. First they don’t get the guy they want, and then they obsess about who the VP will be, with all sorts of threats to sit home if their personal favorite is not chosen. And then when McCain actually picks the candidate the base seemed to want the most, the left goes nuts with what has to be the most outrageous atttack I have ever seen on a candidate. Bar none. The paranoia was insane. A lot of the cheerleading you are referring to was in response the hate mongering.
And you know what? If McCain had picked someone else, people would still be second guessing the choice and complaining.
Sooner or later you have to get past that.

The Units and the leases on the Oil and Gas have been there and we are talking years. They can’t get the NG out, which is why they are creating a pipeline. They usually inject the gas back into the formation and make a UIC well.
When Murkowski was Gov they started the “idea” of the pipeline but without the consent of the people. Sarah got voted in due to the crap Murkowski pulled. She got the Oil Companies to work together and within under a year. They have the rules in place, the items in order and soon it will be builking time. The Permits are there but it took a while to get in gear due to environmental items. EPA and Dept of Enviro Conservation were worried about tundra since the pipeline would be buried. But if buried under the trans alaska pipeline.. better idea.
A lot of time and thought went into this. I can’t even tell you everything.

If the MSM would go after Obama the way they are going after Palin Obama would be toast. The double standard remains firmly in place. Whatever is OK for a democrat is a total scandal for a republican. As far as AP is concerned he has a tendency to let his mouth get ahead of his brain.
duff65 on September 1, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Good point Tomas. This might help explain to Michael why enthusiasm is important.
Spirit of 1776 on September 1, 2008 at 8:47 PM
The “Democrat Party” is very-very “scared” of this woman!
GO SARAH “Kick Their Butts”!!!.
bucko36 on September 1, 2008 at 8:47 PM
If you want all good news about the GOP all the time, I’d recommend here. Otherwise this site is for conservative commentary and reality checks with occasional oddities. When Allah starts getting crazy blog money from the GOP, then he’ll start spewing GOP talking points.
amerpundit on September 1, 2008 at 8:47 PM
Amazing!
A negative tide washes over this place on the mere POSSIBILITY that something, maybe, could be, found that might be questionable.
Good God…this is going to be one helluva ride.
FiveWays on September 1, 2008 at 8:47 PM
Honestly, I think whether she had ties to some kooky party is a bit too “inside baseball” to really make much of a difference in popular support.
The only issues that might hurt her are the trooper firing and the pregnancy thing. Those resonate with voters.
Slublog on September 1, 2008 at 8:48 PM
These “allegations” aren’t going to upset the conservative base.
All they do is reinforce the left’s resolve to not vote for McCain.
Religious_Zealot on September 1, 2008 at 8:48 PM
She doesn’t floss her teeth but every other day? I’m voting for Obama!
RushBaby on September 1, 2008 at 8:48 PM
I love Karl Rove, and I’m loving on Palin too, but I don’t think even Rove is talented enough to transform into a good-looking woman. If he is that good, he’s in the wrong career field.
Anna on September 1, 2008 at 8:49 PM
Geez, do I have to let you have one?
upinak on September 1, 2008 at 8:49 PM
Allahpundit says: “Don’t read the site then. If you want to cocoon, this ain’t the place.”
I’m sure we’ll all thank you for not telling us whether to come here or not. Also, I’m not sure what cocooning has to do with not wanting to read you repeat every piece of garbage coming out of the mainstream media.
AntonK on September 1, 2008 at 8:34 PM
Why in the world do you want to be broadsided by the MSM? Why is it any worse for AP to tell you not to read the site than you telling him what to write? Stick to the thread, if you want to critique the blogs I bet that would make a great blog on it’s own. I am sure they are all breathlessly awaiting your opinion.

The “one of us” is only available to Sarah Palin because it’s true. You can look at that woman and see that she is real. And sincere. Her head is up, her eyes are sparkling, and her smile is genuine. She is not a professional politician, she’s a mom who entered politics. And that feels like a very good thing for America.
So what if she has some different views from McCain? Cheney no doubt has different views from W, but it is the President’s views that are center-stage. Remember how 41 and Reagan disagreed prior to George H. W. Bush becoming Reagan’s VP and, from that point forward, his wing man? Do you think Reagan picked H.W. because he was his favorite person or “political soul mate?” No, but you can bet it was political, and obviously it paid off. This choice feels to me like it is NOT a political pick, or “because she’s a woman,” but a gut instinct on the part of John McCain, a gamble, sure, but a real one; a come-with-me-to-DC-and-let’s-really-make-a-difference-for-America-even-if-I-lose-because-of-it. And isn’t that just John McCain! He doesn’t pretend or take the easy way or pander. He is who he is, and so is his VP pick. Wow! Hallelujah, it’s actual change in politics.
Besides, who in their right mind would take this assignment? Do you think Sarah Palin didn’t know that every aspect of her life would be held under a microscope and everyone she loves incredibly slandered? God bless her, she would have had a much easier life if she had said no to this position, but my impression: she really wants to make a difference.
When serving your country is hard as hell (America’s forefathers; Civil Rights leaders; the actual founding women; heck, John McCain pushing the surge) and people do it anyway, that is where we will find greatness.
Sarah wants to go to DC and take on corruption, out of control government spending, and politics as usual. Let’s let her!
eucher on September 1, 2008 at 8:49 PM
Not only that, but they’re dumping everything too fast. The “drip, drip” strategy only works when they give the drips time to fall at the proper tempo. This weekend, it’s been like a bucket of very thin slime dumped over Palin’s head. Anything likely to disturb the electorate will probably dissolve in the blinding stupidity of the Trig Troofer movement.
If the media hopes these little non-scandals will achieve some kind of critical mass so they can begin referring to her as the “embattled” or “controversial” vice presidential candidate, she’s going to blow them out of the water when she speaks at the convention. 2004 proved that the public can completely divorce itself from the media when they go too far. It’s already been happening, thanks to months of canine media slobbering over Obama – they would have been wiser to keep playing “objective journalist” until much closer to the election. If Palin doesn’t have any really terrible skeletons in her closet, and she does a good job at the convention, nothing that’s come out so far will bother her a bit.
Just curious: if the post-Palin poll numbers we’ve been seeing continue to hold up through next week, would it not be correct to say Obama is the first modern presidential candidate to receive absolutely *no* bounce from his convention? Think we’ll see a lot of reporting on that?
Doctor Zero on September 1, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Thanks for explaining. So the big compromise they were referring to is that deal with the oil companies to build the pipe?

Actually, the last Troopergate scandal involved Gov. Discreet, Elliot Spitzer, and we know how that turned out.
Amazing bit of Dem-style moral equivalance writing off abuse of power as “demonstrating she’s one of us”.
Gee sorry, I’ve never had the pleasure…
sanguine4 on September 1, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Big S:
For one thing you do not know if she has ties to them. You just hope she does so that you can feel vindicated for being pissed off your guy did not win.
When Bush ran in 2000, did he fail to vet himself? What about that DUI? I think it was bs to even bring it up but it damn near cost him that election.
And you do not know what ties there might have been where Romney or Pawlenty was concerned. There could have been all kinds of stuff out there just waiting to come out.
Would you prefer rich white men with sanitized lives who leave people cold and uninspired?
Terrye on September 1, 2008 at 8:50 PM
I’m not so sure about that. All of the ingredients for a new narrative are there, but I guess we’ll see. It’s already hitting the MSM, and the couple who runs the party (and who appeared at that secessionist convention) seem like talkers. You may see them on cable news within the next week or two. Can that be good?
Big S on September 1, 2008 at 8:51 PM
1000 cuts only goes one way with the PAM triangle….
the Politicos, Academics, and Media are in a nice dasiy-chain and nuke our candidates with papercuts and staunch sucking chest wounds for libs….
Nut up, close ranks, she is a good pick not perfect life will go on.

Sorry Cindy, but if you want to shut up, then shut up; for my part, I’ll criticize Allahpundit and/or this blog whenever I feel it it/they need it.
Now, go on little girl…
AntonK on September 1, 2008 at 8:53 PM
“Not reporting on this” is not what the people have a problem with. It’s how it’s presented. Much like the ‘Condi: America will be fine under President Obama. “[T]here’s something to be said for fresh blood.” entry.
wise_man on September 1, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Besides, any allegation with any truth to it is far, far outweighed by all the garbage that has been thrown her way.
The left should have read The Boy Who Cried Wolf, because after Trig-Gate, Incest-Gate, Bad-Mother-Gate, Fat-Suit-Gate, Cuckolded-Husband-Gate (with real fake video!)…
…after all of these, if they ever find anything REAL no one will believe them.
Religious_Zealot on September 1, 2008 at 8:53 PM
You know, I have said a lot of negative things about McCain, some here, but I never said he was dumb. Because he is not.
The rumor mill was ripe before the pick, sour grapes if you ask me — Likely source of the rumors, Gramnesty camp.
I don’t care, I’m voting for the girl.
tarpon on September 1, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Sort of. There are tax incentives for those who build or invest in more of the pipeline then others. There are those who will need to do hiring and firing for the demand work.
More is involved. But what can you do with you have something that is large but unknown as to when it may happen. BP, ConocoPhillips, Cheveron, Tran Canada, and many smaller Companies are going to be involved for sure. Exxon is the “problem” child at the moment.
upinak on September 1, 2008 at 8:54 PM
So now McCain not only has a VP candidate who represents change way more than Obama’s VP, he also has a VP candidate who has way more independence than does Obama’s VP candidate. McCain seems to have done a fine job stealing every one of Obama’s narratives.
