Its war
William Amos on September 1, 2008 at 10:40 PM
What is their plan, to FORCE the Hillary supporter who were upset with Hillary being treated this way to vote for McCain?

Sarah Palin could become a modern day Boudica. Boudica was a celtic queen who nearly drove the Romans out of Britain. If she had flanked the Romans through dense forest, instead of a frontal assault, history would be very different.
If they want war, liberals and the MSM chose the wrong way to go about it.

Can an entire political party have a Lazio moment?
Stay tuned and find out in the latest episode of “As Obama Squirms”.

Wow. That’s a really terrible idea on the part of Obama’s supporters. Their candidate showed class in his statement. They should follow his lead.

Having a baby is punishment enough.
Kini on September 1, 2008 at 10:47 PM
The fact is teenagers from all walks of life will have sex. Especially 17-18 year olds. Bristol is not an abnormal teen, even from a conservative family. Here is the difference:
Conservative family values: get pregnant, have the baby.
Progressive family values: get pregnant, kill the mistake.

Oy, nothing is sacred to these folks.
AbaddonsReign on September 1, 2008 at 10:47 PM
I agree that Bristol Palin should not be the focus of this campaign. However, do people here think that issues like sex education and abortion should be off the table now because it might hurt her feelings? Seriously, I’m really curious.

I read a couple of comments too. They seem to be saying they are attacking because if it was Obama’s daughter the Right would be attacking them.
Doesn’t that sound a lot like preemptive war? I thought they were against that.
petunia on September 1, 2008 at 10:49 PM
When will someone on our side standup and tell these idiots that having Christian values and wanting our country to have an ethical foundation does NOT mean every Christian IS Jesus Christ and therefore considered to be perfect and devoid of all earthly sin?
Just because Palin, like millions of other American mothers, teach their daughters to abstain from sex based on their religious beliefs and basic common sense, doesn’t mean when that teenager decides to make a poor decision it should immediately reflect on the mother’s teachings.
With the democrats I thought good intentions were enough of a measuring stick to determine success. However, if they want to open that can of worms lets start hammering them on their failures as welfare parents.
smfoushee on September 1, 2008 at 10:49 PM
I must have missed that in my history class. But the history channel came to the rescue. It was a really amazing story. Shows what can happen when you dismiss the opponent because she’s a woman.
wise_man on September 1, 2008 at 10:49 PM
And for crying out loud, being a Christian is not portraying that one is perfect. The very crux of being a Christian is that we are all imperfect and require salvation.

You know, over the years I have had a lot of experience with people I know getting preggers before they were married. The first reaction is usually shock, and embarrassment, by the parents to be as well as their families. Parents are angry, and they say things–or at least think them–about self-control, moral values, what-were-you-thinking? It’s a natural reaction for parents to wonder where they went wrong in raising their kids when something like this happens, but it…passes. People talk, fingers are pointed, it’s a huge deal, and then everyone gets focused on what to do next and the baby to come.
This is no different than what any family might go through except for scale. And no matter the scale, the shock and the embarrassment will pass, and we can get on with life.
And this election.
Bob's Kid on September 1, 2008 at 10:50 PM

Exactly, petunia. They are just waiting for the right to attack Obama’s family. I mean, they are republicans, and only the republicans resort to the personal attack – not the democrats (in their own minds) they would never do that …. Right?

petunia on September 1, 2008 at 10:51 PM
But the Republican party has consistently used the religious right to say ‘we’re Christians,’ to say ‘we don’t believe in this and we don’t believe in that.’ And so I think they have to be held accountable…. She has to be held accountable.”
Yeah, the kids gonna marry the guy and have the baby (as oppossed to KILLIN’ it) and her family is there for her. That IS ‘family values’. Ok, she made a mistake, she had pre-marital sex, but should she UNPUNISH herself by aborting? Then the left would REALLY go nuts! “Oh, I thought you guys were AGAINST abortion!” Yeah? Well I thought YOU guys were against gettin’ involved in somebody else’s maternal decisions?!
Tony737 on September 1, 2008 at 10:51 PM
No. Look Bush famously pushed for abstinence education, right? At one of his fundraisers, he was talking about it and a couple of the big donors in the back (ladies as the case happened to be) were laughing at it, as in haha, how naive. So they, the ladies and then Gov. Bush, are talking about it and they say say something like, ‘come on you can’t be serious’. and he said ‘yes’. and they said, ‘were you a virgin when you got married’ and he said ‘no, but i think it’s a good policy to talk about’. And they were impressed.
The issue isn’t, never has been, whether people make mistakes, etc. It’s about trying to find a balance between parents and schools and how to raise our kids for the best chance in life for happiness.

alphie on September 1, 2008 at 11:00 PM
I see what you mean, but there was relatively little attention paid to sex ed when Bush ran for office. On account of this story, there will be far more attention paid to it. In addition, Palin’s baby with Down syndrome, her membership in the anti-birth control pill Feminists for Life, and her statements about abortion in the case of rape or incest, will bring reproductive issues to much greater attention overall. Trying to use Palin’s family situation as a shield against discussing these issues (Shhhh! You’ll hurt her feelings!) is simply dishonest politics. She’s outside the mainstream of American politics on some of these issues, and I get the feeling that her staunchest defenders are trying to hide that fact.
Big S on September 1, 2008 at 11:01 PM
I’m concerned if these voters are representative at all of a large segment of Americans. Did you notice the one saying that Republicans made her out to be “perfect”? Um, I don’t remember that…
I think a lot of these attacks are based off jealousy. She’s young, smart, attractive, with a great family…a lot of women would be envious of that and cast aspersions on her for it. They can’t wait to take her down…its sad, really.
And is McCain running on Conservative Christian values? I haven’t noticed that as a major theme…I guess the Dems are running on liberal Atheist values, then?

All I know is that Obama’s daughter’s are quite and that Jesus and Victima (see Iowahawk) seem willing to exploit them.
I do think that BabyDaddy is the dreamy bad boy type that teen girls go ga-ga over, and based on my reading of the NY Daily News article it seems that the Palins knew that the relationship wasn’t good and decided to transfer Bristol to another school, so I don’t think that you can fault them for being lax parents. Teens are just really good @ defying rules. That being said you have to give this guy props for doing the right thing.
Illinidiva on September 1, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Fred Barnes did it to critize Sally Quinn’s piece which erroneously said the whole pregnant kid thing would hurt Palin with “values voters.” Which is totally false. I had to explain this to one of my friend’s today who has PDS.
CanadianGuy on September 1, 2008 at 11:03 PM
It wasn’t Fred Barnes, it was Bill Kristol. And he had some righteous indignation going on against Kondrake for trying to say that this situation was somewhat justified and that it was alright to use it as a discussion of the failure of abstinence education.
Even Mara Liasson was very supportive of Palin and gave no qualifications to her disdain for what’s currently happening.
Either way, I was glad to see Bill hit back hard on this and call the whole smear job the media is trying to pursue as despicable.

Weddings are so passé, especially for the ‘enlightened’ Europeans, and the lefties. All of a sudden “where is accountability?”, “when’s the wedding?”, “who’s to blame”, “who’s to pay a price”, “families will suffer if she runs/wins”, “poor evangelicals”….
And from the other side “it’s all ok, they love each other”, “they’re going to get married”, “yada, yada, yada”.

I am Jack’s complete lack of interest in this topic.
Jack is amazed that the media is trying to make a political issue out of a pregnancy which, correct me if I’m wrong, has long been an essential aspect of the human condition enabling the perpetuation our species.
You’d think that having a baby was an atrocity or something…. and you know, maybe that’s their beef. They would probably be happy about it if the baby were aborted. They’re like jackals circling just outside of the light cast by the campfire, waiting for the kill.
I have a hard time believing that the new Socialist Party is going to get any mileage out of this contrived controversy.

LtE126 on September 1, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Maybe for a couple days, but the McCain-Palin ticket is a ‘reform, clean up government’ ticket really. It’s not McCain-Palin ‘teaching you about sex’ ticket. If the issue of sex is front and center it will be because the media drags it out, and issues the media drag out make them look stupid. Like the evolution to Huck in the debates questions. Voters aren’t hanging on pins and needles for those answers (as evidence by the non-answers).
Spirit of 1776 on September 1, 2008 at 11:06 PM
That is not hypocrisy. That is known as “making the best of a difficult situation.” It will be much, much easier for Bristol and the baby if she and the father love each other enough to commit. Single people not getting preggers is an ideal. When people fall short of that ideal, there are better and worse situations in which it happens.
Anwyn on September 1, 2008 at 11:06 PM

She made a mistake yet the family as a whole will take responsibility for her action and raise the child. That is exactly what family values are: you take the good with the bad; you assume the responsibilities of your actions regardless of how inconvenient it may be to your ‘lifestyle’. The Palins live by their convictions. Saint Barry, on the other hand has already told us what he would do if one of his daughters found herself in the same position: he wouldn’t expect her to be ‘punished’ with a child. consistency from the guy who killed the ‘born alive’ bill while he was a light-weight backbencher in illinois. A stark contrast if there ever was one.

Good evening Anwyn. So glad you’re back. If you did not see my previous thoughts on topic, here’s a summary:
1. The Palin pick is a masterstroke because it turned left and right upside down.
2. It’s no one’s business but the families’ (all of them)
3. The left is hypocritical for being holier-than-thou all of a sudden.
4. The right is hypocritical for overlooking teen pregnancies because it’s one of theirs.
5. Glad the two love each other and I wish them well.
6. Teen pregnancies are not to be encouraged.
Just thoughts, not to worry. Both sides are like molasses on this one. It’s fun to watch. Best regards, as always,

do people here think that issues like sex education and abortion should be off the table now ?
1. Deciding what is included in educational curricula is done at lower levels of gov’t. When was the last time a Veep decided what gets covered in your kid’s classroom?
2. Palin’s position on abortion can’t be made much clearer.
Who cares if these issues are on or off “the table?” There isn’t really anything there to discuss.

Exactly. We also don’t expect people to be perfect and we know people – especially young people – make mistakes. Even conservatives make mistakes. We don’t look down upon that. What matters is what a person does after a mistake is made. The Palins are doing the right thing with this situation and it is perfectly in line with their moral and religious beliefs. They are walking the walk along with talking the talk and the liberals hate it. Thus, the venom.

The Descent of the Left and the MSM
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 12:27 PM
This Reuters story caps off 72 hours of shame for the leftosphere and their pals in the MSM who trafficked in wretched rumor about Sarah Palin and her family. This led to the breach in the family’s private life, and to an extent that should appal everyone. The children of candidates and officials should be off limits, even if the nutters declare they are not. I even understood the MSM’s reluctance to pursue the Edwards story because of the impact on Edwards’ family.
I applaud the Palin’s for their candor and their decision to be completely transparent with the public, and expect the vast majority of decent Americans of all political stripes will respect their wish to keep the young couple out of the news. This is hardly a rare story, though it is always a difficult one for families to work through. In the end it just means that Sarah Palin will not only be the first woman and mother to be vice president, but also the fist grandmother to hold the office as well.
Keemo on September 1, 2008 at 11:11 PM
McCain went for a decision on the socio-biological level. Obarry beat the experienced and qualified Hillary and he is leading in the polls despite never having accomplished anything of merit as an adult. He managed this by being the reigning prom queen in the race. He beat the caustic ex-wife and could trouncing the old man. To counter this McCain had to go out and get a real prom queen. Done. Obarry’s star will begin to wear thin. Mission Accomplished yet again

Obama is right on how he’s handling this. His minions won’t be able to help themselves. It won’t amount to much, not this topic.
Entelechy on September 1, 2008 at 11:13 PM
And the Obama ticket is about Hope and Change … but Republicans can go and point out policies of his that they disagree with in the interest of campaigning. Here’s a little secret: you don’t get to control your message. If McCain and Palin have taken positions on abstinence and other reproductive issues – heck, if they’re part of the GOP platform – it’s perfectly fair for Democrats to bring them up and debate them. If the positions make McCain and/or Palin seem out of the mainstream or even crazy, that’s fair too. I’d hate to see Republicans get whiny about it. The Obama campaign is not going to go after Bristol Palin, and is not going to attack Sarah Palin for deciding to keep a baby with Down syndrome, but they might, during the course of the campaign, question whether abstinence only education works. If that happens, conservatives shoudn’t try to use Bristol Palin as a shield – that’s just as bad as attacking her, in my opinion.

Oh sure, but the bigger picture is that we are not simply electing one candidate or a pair of candidates, we are electing an administration. Obama, if elected, will bring a whole cadre of people into positions of authority and power. It matters what kind of company he keeps.
If the actions of his supporters put his candidacy in a bag light, well that’s just too damn bad.

Well, Jim,
The timing of the wedding is a legitamate question.
Assuming the kids want to get married before the baby is born…they’re gonna have to wedge it in before the election.
And will McCain attend?

Nope we are going after Biden. He has quite a few Skeletons in his closet

I’ve never been tempted to vote twice, but in light of the way the mainstream left has behaved toward the Governor, it makes me want to vote and vote often come November.
Of course, I live in NC, so only one vote is needed from me to defeat The One and his Plagarist. What little support he had here is drying up fast. I’d sleep in if it weren’t going to be so much fun watching Olby’s head explode and Sully’s blog go crashing down.
Yeee HAAWWWW!

Distilled to the simplest difference: accepting the consequences of one’s behavior to an individual human with a right to exist or taking the “Get Out of Jail Free” card which minimizes those consequences.
Progressives will, in most cases, cast those who do not play this card as ignorant imbeciles who don’t have the intelligence to do what is “best ” for the society they dream about.
The attacks will continue since the actions of rabid dog lefties will always be those of rabid dogs – they know no better.

Nice…kind of shows that you care more about the bloodsport rather than being objective. Obama explicitly condemned these attacks but you use the word of some yahoo to justify your “let slip the dogs of war” missive.
It takes more courage to turn the other cheek than you give credit for. Lets hope Palin is a little more courageous than you…
