McCain has used obvious openings like this before, and it would be sweet to see his running mate knock this one out of the park.

I can see it now- “Why should a small-town mayor like Sarah Palin be a vp candidate?”

“Well, McCain could have gone with a big-city mayor like Obama’s friends Kwame Kilpatrick and Richard Daley, but I think I’m a better choice….”

Expect to see Hillary in a national ad.

They might use footage of her but she’d never make an ad for Obama.

As for Obama, he’d be wise to take Bruce Reed’s advice and go easy for now or simply ignore her altogether. The risk that someone’s going to cross the line in belittling her is too great and the media will do the heavy lifting on her weak points anyway. If she surprises at the debate with Biden and their hand is forced, then they can tear her to pieces.

He’s not going to attack her directly – he’ll use her as a defense against the experience argument – but he will trot out every female Democratic politician to make the case that Palin represents a “backwards” agenda. Expect to see Hillary in a national ad.
