Don Fowler channels Michael Moore

Red State blogger “absentee” had the good fortune to travel from Denver to Charlotte after the Democratic convention with DNC National Chair Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina. His fortune turned into Fowler’s misfortune, as it turns out the blogger videotaped a conversation on the plane between the two prominent Democrats, who seem pleased about Hurricane Gustav. In fact, Fowler apparently believes it to be divine intervention, as shown in this clip:
The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. [Chuckle] The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] … Everything’s cool.
This comes just a day after Brother Michael Moore saw the Face of God in a natural disaster bearing down on New Orleans. Did the Democratic convention hold a seminar in Denver on how to take glee in the misfortune of others, as long as it works for you politically? While we’ve come to expect this from Moore, who is obnoxious even at the best of times, seeing this kind of weird schadenfreude from elected officials and high-ranking party members comes off … rather ghoulishly.
Absentee also reports that the pair had quite a laugh over Sarah Palin’s nomination, but apparently he didn’t get that on tape. They shrugged her off as a non-entity except for the accident of gender, and called her — oddly — “Dan Quayle on steroids”. None of that is rather exceptional, except that one can be sure that their official line will sound at least slightly more dignified, even if just as far removed from reality.
It does seem curious that Absentee had the camera at the ready while the plane was apparently in flight, and that neither Democrat noticed it. This also prompts a question of ethics, which all of us should consider carefully. Should private conversations between politicians get videotaped surreptitiously like this? If so, then perhaps Fowler and many, many others should take better care about having a laugh at the misery of others, even among friends.
Update (AP): I made this point in the Moore post yesterday but it bears repeating: This is their philosophy on Iraq too, of course. Defeat actually helps America, because defeat puts Democrats in power and only by having Democrats in power can America “progress.” Bear this in mind the next time Sen. Hopenchange affects indignation in wondering what McCain could possibly mean with his insinuations about putting country first. This is what he means.

Think macaca!! They have no problem with video taping every Republican just for this kind of statement. Now to bad it wasn’t on every major news channel with the Michael Moore clip.

I think its a bad idea to do this. Plus the short clip and crappy angle makes it hard to tell who it is.
Much to do about nothing. Democrats already say enough stupid things just have to be diligent and wait for it in the media.

Proof yet again that the “tolerance and diversity” party are the most unkind, cruel people in the country.

Indeed.
As an outsider it can be hard to get the real vibe of things here. I suspect that Blanco bought too deeply into the we “dodged a bullet” meme. She was more concerned with “screw chimpy” on popularity points than any real concern over the levee strength. Seems that she had neither asked for nor been briefed on the structural integrity of the flood relief mechanisms in place.
The rest is history.

****BREAKING NEWS*****
UTICA, New York – Republican John McCain’s surprise announcement Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate – some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama’s historic speech accepting his party’s presidential nomination – has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows. The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden. In other words, the race is a dead heat.

There’s nothing private about a conversation on an airplane. What politicians–what all of us really–need to remember is that anything we do or say in a public place is observed and overheard by others. This has always been a fact of life. The only wrinkle recording devices add is that it is easier to deny an unsubstantiated accusation than actual footage of yourself.

By that of course you meant Nagin and Blanco’s performance? Jindal and the now-wiser Nagin have told people to get the hell out of there, and have used buses to bring people out of there. Something Nagin and Blanco failed to do last time. Which was the reason over 1,000 people died. How can you possibly blame Bush and Cheney for that?
Ohhhh. Right, because the Democrats don’t take responsibility for their own actions and take the easy route by blaming Bush. Gotcha.

In SW Ohio, I just saw on CNN a new Obama ad using the melody I remember from the Animal House soundtrack. It’s the song that has the line, “Don’t know much about trigonometry…” In the ad, it treats McCain as singing that he doesn’t know much about the economy and the middle class and one or two other things.
I’m biased, but I think it’s hokey. Hard-left, I’m sure, will do high fives between bong hits, but it ranks down with McCain’s early Dr. No ad.
Chime in if you see it. I think it’s childish.

These vermin need to be dealt with. I didn’t evacuate to Memphis for the amusement of liberal Democrats. Neither did my neighbors on either side here who are also from the New Orleans area. There is a real situtation with real problems brewing on the Gulf Coast. This isn’t some sort of pleasant diversion for the long weekend. I’m not on vacation here. The long weekend ends on Tuesday and I’m still here for at least two more days waiting to see what happens back home.
For Democrats, liberals, or anyone to marginalize this by making it all about the RNC convention and politics is reprehensible. Likewise (and this appears to be the case) for the RNC to be putting on the usual idiotic party if the Gulf Coast is hit hard would be reprehensible. ‘
Grow up and wake up people some things transcend (or should transcend) partisan politics, like Katrina thousands of your fellow countrymen are displaced or on the move tonight because of the threat of a hurricane. By all accounts, evacuation efforts are much more organized than 3 years ago but in many ways this storm could actually be as bad or worse because of where the “dangerous semicircle” is going to make landfall- Essentially the massive storm surge that hit Mississippi and Alabama could hit New Orleans this time around. The levees may hold but the damage in the surrounding Parishes all came from surge flooding and all the recovery of the past three years could be undone. I’m not trying to be overly dramatic here but to express precisely why Democrats who are gloating about this storm are scum.
