Video: Palin knocks Biden on drilling, ties it to national security

And not just Biden either. Pay attention to what she says about Bush lacking a national energy policy and kowtowing to the Saudis to boost production, a line that’ll take a tiny bit of the sting out of the left’s “McSame” jabs. This’ll be her issue on the trail, for obvious reasons; presumably McCain will be having his duly appointed epiphany about ANWR any day now, since I cut about four minutes here of her explaining why people who wet themselves about the sainted caribou actually have no idea of what ANWR looks like and how little a threat drilling would pose to the environment. (You can watch the full interview at CNBC.) As predicted, the left is already pushing the line that she’s an ignoramus who’s on the ticket as an “affirmative action” pick, a policy to which the Democratic Party is now, suddenly and miraculously, opposed. See for yourself how ignorant she is. Exit question: Since it’s all about the second X chromosome, does anyone want to try arguing with a straight face that Kay Bailey Hutchison or Meg Whitman or Carly Fiorina would have provoked the sort of euphoria you’re seeing among conservatives today? The left’s right that someone here is treating all women as essentially fungible, but it ain’t John McCain.

Interesting. I hope she explains that then. Because, as I noted, the editorial comments I put in my comment were from HotAir’s Ed Morrissey. If she has a good explanation for it and a good explanation of how it will work nationally, I want to hear it. On the surface though, as Ed noted, it looks the same as Obama’s plan.

I simply want answers. I refuse to become the Chris Matthews of the right and go all leg tingle about a politician, which is what Sarah Palin is. A better one than Obama and Biden, for certain, but, in the end, she is a politician.

No biggie!
All states tax at the wellhead. And, if the mineral interest is state-owned (or Federally-owned), then the entity gets a bonus (usually 18.75-25% of the oil revenue, the same as any private landowner in the US).
For example, I’m leasing up in North Dakota right now, and my private landowner bonuses vary from 17-25%.
The State of North Dakota is in the 20-25% range.

Juan Williams on FOX NEWS roundtable;

Evidently the dumb Dems have picked the hill that they want to and will die upon – experience! How pathetic! There will be a surprise awaiting these partisan hacks as she shows her experience.

How about some debates without a teleprompter 0bama. We shall see how fog horn, blow horn Biden does against a smart, articulate, Conservative. This ain’t your ordinary Senate playground boys welcome to the big time get ready for a big time ass kickin!

Thank you. I will.

For the record, my indifferent attitude on Palin is a result of all the Obamania-esque-like comments I am seeing all over the right-of-center blogs today. As if Palin as the VP nominee takes away all of the lousiness of McCain at the head of the ticket.

The one big thing that has annoyed me in this campaign is seeing the Left go absolutely euphoric over Obama. From the comments I have read today on the right, they read just like the euphoria on the Left. It’s pretty off-putting, I have to admit. When it comes down to it, Palin is a politician. A good one, a much better one than Obama and Biden or any other Democrat, but she is still simply a politician.

Thanks for the insight. I’ll be reading the .pdf supplied by “upinak” to get a better understanding of this, but I still expect Governor Palin to address this issue and explain how she is different than Obama with her policies and how it will work to help create incentives for American oil companies to drill domestically, instead of create disincentives for them.

Again, I will state that I like pretty much everything I have read about Sarah Palin, her background, her attitude, her political history and achievements and the way she handles herself in public. I simply am not one to go all Chris Matthews about politicians anymore, no matter who they are. And, as I mentioned, Governor Palin as the VP nominee does not erase all the bad about McCain, so I am not about to forget the last 7 years of McCain’s policies with which I completely disagree, including things like Juan Hernandez and Amnesty.

I saw that idiot Jack Cafferty on CNN tonight yelling about how McCain picked an inexperienced and unqualified woman just to try and appeal to Hillary voters.

I wish someone would explain to me how Obama, a freshman Senator who has spent his entire 3-year Senate tenure running for President, a man who has never run so much as a 7-11, is somehow more “experienced and qualified” to be President than a woman who has been a mayor and a governor is qualified to be Vice President.

petefrt on August 29, 2008 at 6:56 PM

Absolutely true…

Except this quote neglects to talk about who’s bodies there are. She became Governor and cleaned house because everyone in place were corrupt appointments from a an even more corrupt former Governor.

If someone doesn’t work, she calls them on it and replaces them with someone who does… before their chair (or the body) is even cold. Controversial? Sure. But I applaud her for it.

Vice Presidential Debate Between Palin and Biden

Question from Narrater:

Governor Palin during a 2008 Democratic debate, Sen. Biden provided the following answer to a Youtube question.

“…I don’t know that he’s mentally qualified to own that gun…we should be working with law enforcement to protect people from those who don’t know how to use a gun…”

How would you respond to that question?

Well, I would first put down my moose burger, wipe my hands with a gun rag, take a swig of my PBR, and tell that guy his “baby” is safe.

TexasJew on August 29, 2008 at 7:12 PM

Well, hmm, no one could tell that from all the Chris Matthews-esque reaction around the right-of-center blogs, now could they?

Relax, TexasJew.

As I have repeatedly stated, I like Palin. However, I am quite a bit put off by the right acting like the left in their euphoria over Palin. The Left at least is euphoric over a Presidential candidate. The right is going nuts over a VP candidate.

Obama came off as angry and uptight last night; no real confidence. I think Obama has been hit with a hard dose of reality, the fact that he could likely lose this election that everybody told him he would win going away. The man’s ego is off the charts.

Crash landing coming, better get out of the way. When this fairy tale is all over with, Obama will be nothing other than damaged goods. Shipley and JG will be crying racist for the next four years, along with millions of black Americans. In the mean while, white America has been awakened to some cold hard facts about black America, compliments of the Obama’s and his Reverend of choice.

Keemo on August 29, 2008 at 7:27 PM

Michael in MI on August 29, 2008 at 7:05 PM

I admit that’s scared me a bit too today, Michael, and I have questioned my own euphoria. But then I remember that months ago I was initially attracted to Obama (his personality and speechifying skills, not his positions) – and the more I found out about him, the less I liked him. Whereas I already know a good deal about Palin (unless there are MAJOR skeletons hiding), and the more I learn about her the more I like her and want to stand behind her. No, with her.

We’re entitled to some honest joy today, I think. The best we’ve been able to do up to now is schadenfreude, a poor subsitute.

You keep chugging the Kool-Aid, Big S.

ManlyRash on August 29, 2008 at 7:28 PM

ManlyRash on August 29, 2008 at 7:20 PM

I think you are missing my simple point. Which is that I don’t believe people should be going nuts about any politician. As people keep telling me when trying to get me to vote for McCain, no politician is perfect and no politician aligns with all one’s principles and values. You simply find one with whom you mostly agree and then hold them to account on things with which you do not agree.

Well, I agree with that sentiment. And I agree that it applies to Governor Palin as well. She seems to be a good Governor and handles herself well in public and representing herself. All good qualities and I respect her, her background and her achievements. But, in the end, she is a politician and she is going to let us down in some areas, go against what she promises on other areas and make mistakes in some things. She’s human and she’s a politician. I understand that and am treating her a such. From some of the comments I am reading on right-of-center blogs though, one would think she was the savior of the Republican Party and the reincarnation of Margaret Thatcher. I’m sorry, but that’s ridiculous. She needs to prove herself first.

I am grateful that Senator McCain chose Palin as his VP candidate as she seems to be a qualified choice, however I still am holding each of them to account as the politicians they are.

Absolutely not reason to apologize, ManlyRash. I guess part of me is just jealous that most of you can be so excited and joyful over this. I just lost all enthusiam for the political scene over the course of this campaign. Short of Senator McCain announcing he was stepping down from the ticket, because he had brought Ronald Reagan back to life in his 1980 form and also putting Palin on the ticket, I don’t think anything could have gotten me as joyful as most of the people here. heh Oh well.

In all seriousness, I guess it is because I look at the top of the ticket and still see McCain. The same people who were telling me to shut up and get in line and vote for McCain even if he picked Lieberman, because Lieberman as VP wouldn’t have any effect on McCain’s policies, are now telling me I should be joyful and enthusiastic to vote for Senator McCain, because of Governor Palin as VP. I have to admit that I tired of the hypocrisy of both sides a long time ago, but especially from the right, considering my political philosophy aligns with them most of the time.

Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from too, Michael. I may not have been following politics as long – it’s a relatively recent interest for me – so maybe I just haven’t had as much time to get fed up.

Though I admit, I am so with you on the way people treat each other (not particularly at HA, just in general in politics and in the discussions of politics). It is enough to make me stay away from certain blogs and certain topics.

Maybe if you like Palin’s strong conservatism enough, and she runs for Prez in 4 or 8 years, you’ll have a campaign you can really believe in.

I must ask, with absolutely no sarcasm intended: if you’ve been fed up for so long, what keeps you coming back? Just wanting to stay informed, or is it more than that?

Hope you get your groove back soon, Michael! :)

Are you feeling the heat yet Obama? Are you starting to get that sinking feeling in the crotch of your stomach? I can tell you now it’s all over but the crying… and of course calling everyone a racist for not electing you.

Maxx on August 29, 2008 at 8:17 PM

Pay attention to what she says about Bush lacking a national energy policy and kowtowing to the Saudis to boost production, a line that’ll take a tiny bit of the sting out of the left’s “McSame” jabs.

even better because it’s a fair criticism

funky chicken on August 29, 2008 at 8:18 PM

I can’t believe that I’m actually getting excited about McCain being president. I’ve been saying that Palin would be a great pick for a month and a half, but I’ve been convinced McCain would blow the pick. I’ve been sure he would throw the election. Now he knocks it out of the park.

Sarah comes across as totally brilliant. Yes, running our cars on air would be great, but until then, don’t make me choose between paying the bills or filling my tank.

Awesome.

hal_mccombs on August 29, 2008 at 8:18 PM

Crash landing coming, better get out of the way. When this fairy tale is all over with, Obama will be nothing other than damaged goods. Shipley and JG will be crying racist for the next four years, along with millions of black Americans. In the mean while, white America has been awakened to some cold hard facts about black America, compliments of the Obama’s and his Reverend of choice.

yep

I must ask, with absolutely no sarcasm intended: if you’ve been fed up for so long, what keeps you coming back? Just wanting to stay informed, or is it more than that?

Rosmerta on August 29, 2008 at 7:53 PM

I keep coming back, because HotAir provides the best political discussion and news discussion in one place than anywhere else on the net, in my opinion. Whenever I want to find out what is happening in the political world, HotAir is my first stop. I used to loathe AllahPundit’s pessimism (I still detest the way AllahPundit, Bryan Preston and Michelle Malkin treated Fred Thompson during the primaries), but I have now come to appreciate it, because he keeps things on an even keel. He is a nice countermeasure to the euphoric cheerleading nonsense that is found in a lot of partisan bloggers and commenters. I also like Ed Morrissey’s more positive, yet mostly tempered and objective analysis.

So I keep coming back here, for the content and to stay informed.

As far as being fed up, that actually only happened recently. I think my frustration came to a head when McCain won the nomination and then I had people on my side turn on me on a dime if I dared criticize McCain and pondered the possibility of not voting for him. After that, I lost a lot of faith in my fellow voters and then just lost enthusiasm and optimism for politics in general. It is still a part of me. I have been spending probably an average of 40-50 hours per week reading political and military blogs for the past 4-5-6 years now to get informed and stay informed. So it’s basically a part of my routine now and possibly a borderline addiction now.

But this campaign has opened my eyes to a lot of things and that has led to my loss of enthusiasm and optimism.

It hasn’t been all that long for me in following politics either, as I just started to pay attention on 9/12/2001, found Rush Limbaugh’s radio show soon after that, got hooked and his optimism and teaching nature was so inspiring and that led me to take the initiative to keep learning and learning more and more each day. But the last 6-12 months has really sapped me of all my optimism and enthusiasm.

Rosemerta, yup Michael in MI is a troll, at least it looks that way to me. ED dropped the ball a little bit in taking what the BP exec gave him at face value . Michael in MI, didn’t correct that. He just keeps coming out with more doom & gloom. He’s a dittohead, yeah , RIIIIGHT.

heheh. You are obviously new to HotAir comments sections if you believe me to be a troll.

Also, all you have to do is go to my website (click on my screenname) and you can see all I have written since 2005 on my blog. Call me a troll al you like. You just make yourself look ignorant.

Welcome to the fight, Mike. This time, I know our side will win.

ManlyRash on August 29, 2008 at 9:19 PM

I’ll make it even easier for you, “bigmike”. Here’s a link to my posts on Rush Limbaugh.

You may consider yourself “big”, because you snap judge people based on a few comments on one thread on a website, but you really should stop and realize that there is a lot more to people than a few comments they leave on a blog post.

And this is exactly the nonsense to which I was referring when I told Rosemerta I tired of the way people treated one another during this campaign. I criticize McCain or Palin and automatically some ignoramus considers me a troll and doubts my admiration for Rush Limbaugh. Brilliant. Keep that up, “bigmike”. You’ll be sure to sway people to your side.

She sounds smart!

The Principal Chair on August 29, 2008 at 9:41 PM

Really impressive clip. She was on point, knew her stuff, and spoke with passion. Also very tough.

The meme that’s she’s unqualified and inexperienced is not going to survive the encounter with reality.

Unleash Sarah’cuda on Joe Biden. She will eat him ALIVE!

Mother of five phrasing oil production as “feeding hungry markets” is genius.

Yes, I’ve seen that happen here … and in discussions on Huckabee, and other topics that seem to stir strong feelings. I try to stay out of those fights. I don’t understand why people just can’t be civil at times.

I first got interested in all this when Steve Forbes was trying for the Republican nomination in 2000. I loved his flat tax idea (still do), and I got hooked up with an online discussion group that really got me thinking about politics and conservatism seriously for the first time. Better late than never. So in a way, I can thank the Internet for my political interests – and political education. We sure never talked about politics in the public schools I attended (though I do remember a show of hands on Goldwater/Nixon back in the day).

Rosmerta on August 30, 2008 at 12:52 AM

I wish Romney was a viable canidate. Sarah is going to be fine but what about the economy. We need to fix the banking industry. And I would love if Mitt could do something about Detroit! But no we have Moose and Cariboo on the brain… I’m already burnt out.

At the very least, this warrants the creation of an “I (heart) Baracuda” bumper sticker….

I hope she’s a barracuda and I hope she fights like a hungry wolverine. Wimps don’t win presidential elections.

Sarah Palin, you’re no Dan Quayle.
