Palin's going to mop the floor with Uncle Joe.

Oh, and as for the "small town mayor" thing... well, if we are going to adopt the practice of referring to candidates by their previous jobs:
- John McCain, warrior
- Barack Obama, race hustler
- Joe Biden, town councilor

Crazy....She has more experience leading a government than all the 3 others at the top of the ticket..... I would vote for a Palin/McCain ticket with more gusto than the McCain/Palin ticket that I am now proud to vote for.

Here's hoping that McCain decides to serve only one term so it's Palin/Jindal in '12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"If it were your decision, and you were putting your country first, would you put an untested small-town mayor a heartbeat away from the presidency?"
Boy, those talking points sound like they're from the DNC...
To answer the (wrong) question: YES. Yes, because she's more than that; she's a governor, she's a woman who went after the good ol' boys in the oil industry and the corrupt Alaskan elected officials who aided and abetted them, to champion the People of Alaska, AND SHE WON. She walks the talk on this issue and on energy...and she wears cool shoes to walk the talk. No matter how you slice it, she still have more executive expience than Obamabi. So, what's the real beef?

Harry Truman was a basic Missouri boy that worked on his grandfather’s farm.
It’s a modern concept that’s come across over the last 30 years that says you have to be in the right group, come from the right place, and know the right people in order to be a success.

Bull.

All Sarah Palin has to be is an American. And she’s that; All-American wool, and 100 yards wide.

itsspideyman on August 30, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Yes, she is. And I am THRILLED to have her on the ticket. As for her being "a heartbeat away from the Presidency"...yeah, so? Harry Truman was a heartbeat away from the Presidency, too - and hadn't been briefed on the development of the atomic bomb, or the state of our relationship with the Soviet Union - when FDR passed away. And then, all of FDR's problems, and projects, and policies, became his to deal with. Which he did. Because that's what he had been elected to do. His job.
Truman was a haberdasher - and his business went bankrupt. His home in Independence, MO, is lovely...but if you blink, you'll miss it. A modest, honorable man.
And Sarah Palin is a modest, honorable woman, fully capable of leading a PTO, or a town, or a state, or this nation.
Allahpundit, get over it..it's Palin.

I read somewhere once (can’t recall) that the Kremlin really took Ronald Reagan seriously when he made the “reckless” decision to fire the striking air traffic controllers.

Uncertainty is the essence of deterrence.

Dennis Miller said, back when the tea-totaling Democrats were attacking Bush because he kicked alcohal 20 years earlier: "I don't care if it's true or not. We need to start spreading the rumor that Bush is back on the sauce - give Al Qaida one more thing to worry about late at night!"

3 things...

Governing a state that borders another country doesnt count as foreign policy experience.

Governing a state with no urban center and a population of only 600,000 (thats less that westchester county NY) doesnt count as executive experience (unless you think county exec andy spano is ready to lead of course).

Running a budget smaller than the City University of New York's doesnt make you a reformer.

Does she even have a world view? Hows she feel about Israel, Iraq, Russia, China, Social Security, the bank meltdown...etc, etc.

John McCain has stated positions on these matters, and so do Barack Obama and Joe Biden (whether you agree with them or not)

Im sorry, but she's worse than Dan Quayle. As a matter of fact...

I know Dan Quayle, Dan Quayle is a friend of mine, and governor...YOU ARE NO DAN QUAYLE

The Exit Answer to Frum’s question is that were McCain to stand on principle and choose the best person for the job of VP, he would not have won the election. So he had to choose Palin to play the identity politics game and win the election. But, people could argue that McCain winning the election and keeping Obama out of the White House, no matter what he has to do in order to do that, is ‘putting the country first’.

Identity politics most certainly entered into the equation. It is easily pointed out at a glance that Sarah Palin is more of a lady than Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton. When you factor in her upbringing and accomplishments, she is also more of a man than Obama or Biden.

Identity politics most certainly entered into the equation. It is easily pointed out at a glance that Sarah Palin is more of a lady than Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton. When you factor in her upbringing and accomplishments, she is also more of a man than Obama or Biden.

Greatness comes from all corners of our country, not just the more traveled. Alvin York was born in a log cabin in Pall Mall Tennessee and never traveled more than 50 miles from his home until called to war. Harry Truman was a basic Missouri boy that worked on his grandfather's farm. Audie Murphy was the son of Texas sharecroppers, only 5'5" tall and went on to earn 33 medals in World War II. And there's a guy by the name of Ronald Reagan who's formative years were spent in Dixon Illinois.

The fact is that America is a country where greatness abounds everywhere. In a free society as ours where "anyone can be President" a person can rise "above his station" because no station exists. Time and again from towns and villages great people arise and do great things.

It's a modern concept that's come across over the last 30 years that says you have to be in the right group, come from the right place, and know the right people in order to be a success.

  Bull.

All Sarah Palin has to be is an American. And she's that; All-American wool, and 100 yards wide.

If it were your decision, and you were putting your country first, would you put an untested small-town mayor a heartbeat away from the presidency?”

Not unless the only alternative to an untested small-town mayor was an untested Chicago community activist.

But question: If it were your decision, and you were putting your country first, would you put an untested small-town mayor a heartbeat away from the presidency?”

If I wanted to:
change the politics as usual,
break up the good old boy network of politicians who forever feed at the public tit and only seek to serve themselves,
take the country back from elitist insiders who have 0 experience in real life who have never had real jobs, real lives, real responsibilities and
give the country back to Americans, citzens who go to work each day and make a real living/life, citizens who make this great country work
I would put Sarah at the top of the ticket , fire every politician with over 8 years and hire a thousand more like her.

Short answer: YES!

Yes, McCain has taken a chance . . . in a hard fight a good leader must do that. It probably won't satisfy all of the hand wringers but I think it was an excellent decision.

Has anyone else noticed that MSNBC's little stunt (During the announcement of Palin, the byline in red at the bottom of the screen: "BREAKING NEWS: HOW MANY HOUSES DOES PALIN ADD TO THE TICKET??") last night has attracted no attention at all?

I don't even see anything about it on Newsbusters.

What gives?

Bottom line for me, Gov. Palin was a very good choice. I'm still lukewarm on Juan. We'll see what is said at the convention. Then I'll decide whether or not to vote for McShamnesty.
