Palin: Yes, there was sexism towards Hillary but she shouldn’t whine about it

Someone e-mailed me about this earlier and made it sound like she was laying into Hillary, a righteous development in most cases but not on the day she made her pitch to the PUMAs. Not to worry: It’s not a slam, just a gentle nudge that the sisterhood is ill served by a posture of perpetual grievance, especially when the aggrieved is one of the most powerful women in the world. Not to go too far into the tank but I think she strikes just the right note between sympathy and impatience with victimization. But Ben Smith’s right: God help her now if she plays the victim herself when the left starts throwing uppercuts. This’ll run on a loop on cable for a week as a counterpoint. Exit quotation from Ann Althouse: “As a feminist, I love that she did not leverage herself into power through her husband and consider this an important improvement over Hillary.”

Indeed….Hillary had a pretty big advocate.
Sarah goes barracuda on their butts and wins she doesn’t brood.

Ex-Hillary fans will obviously line to vote for a younger more attractive pro-life female candidate who might have suggested Hillary “whined.”
Good plan, McCain! Might as well start picking out new curtains for the oval office right now.

Any basketball player with the guts to drive the lane hard isn’t going to whine when they draw the foul.
Spirit of 1776 on August 29, 2008 at 6:54 PM
I like her sentiment. I would love it if Palin didn’t take personal attacks personally like thin-skinned Obama does. If she just said, ok, that’s their opinion. That’s them, not me. And be done with it. That would be so refreshing.
Paul-Cincy on August 29, 2008 at 6:55 PM
Here’s a true feminist. She made her own way, didn’t rely on her husband to get her to this point, and is pushing through it all.

Really gong to be interesting to see how the National Organization of Women (NOW) spins…
IE, are they for Womens RIGHTS and Equality? or are they for Abortion, and thusly will not support Palin.
Romeo13 on August 29, 2008 at 6:55 PM
true feminists in the sense they want equality will…..gender warriors who want free bennies…not so much.
YOUNGER WOMEN are stronger in this sense than the old bra burners…..
I suspect she will appeal to younger women more than Hillary would.

Abortion is the only real issue for the NAG gang. They’ll attack her mercilessly and call her every name in the book.
And to top it off, she’s good looking. Democrat/libtard women are rarely attractive (and the hatred they exude doesn’t help any). The NAG’s are pretty much all “facially challenged” and they’ll hate Palin for it.
drunkenmaster on August 29, 2008 at 7:17 PM
That’s what this country is about, how you can succeed, despite naysayers. There will ALWAYS be naysayers that say you can’t do something because of your race, your gender, etc. A true American is one that ignores all that and proves them all wrong on their own merit. (”You gotta plow through that…”) Not one that Obama wants where the govt. steps in to help because he doesn’t think people can succeed on their own. How sad that he does not have faith in the country that brought him to where he is today. I think America’s finally going to get her pioneer spirit back, the same spirit that brought us to the moon, helped us get to the technological era, formed the 50 states, and won through all sorts of wars and strife.

Sarah Palin does not use the word “sexism” herself. Also, I reject the notion that Hillary has been anything less than a ruling class in the MSM eyes.
She literally said that she was holding out just in case Barack Obama got assassinated. NO Republican would have a career left after what her and Bill unloaded on Barack Obama.
Hillary was not the victim of sexism. She was a victim of Bill’s sex-is-him.

A lot of professional females, who have had to cringe through the entire Clinton era and who can’t understand how Hillary became the poster girl for female achievement, will find that kind of talk very refreshing.
Infidoll on August 29, 2008 at 7:23 PM
After listening to the few clips from today, I am even more impressed with McCain’s pick of Palin. I don’t think that she will have many gaffe’s during the campaign because she believes what she says and states her position clearly and confidently – as opposed to virtually every other politician who have to continually twist their position to say what they think the audience wants to hear (Obama).

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is evidence of achievement based on character and not race or gender.
Damiano on August 29, 2008 at 7:28 PM
Anything is possible, this is one thing I think highly unlikely. Palin seems to be a self reliant doer, not a beggar of others to fix problems she has. If she encounters sexism during this race, she’ll be more likely to kill it, drag it home, skin it, cook it and have friends over to a party to feast on it rather than whine about seeing it.
Dusty on August 29, 2008 at 7:30 PM
The “whining” dilemma is one fundamental problem with some feminists today. One the one hand, they want to be treated as “equals” (equal pay, Title IX, etc.), rather than lesser or inferior beings.
On the other hand, they want special preferences (”affirmative action”) for perceived or real wrongs, and not necessarily wrongs done to them, but to women in the past.
They use whichever argument fits the situstion, but are not, in the long run, consistent in what they want, unless “equal or special, whichever benefits me most” is a consistent position.
Women like Palin are like Clarence Thomas. “Yeah, we were treated horribly in the past. But moving forward, ask to be treated equally, and act like it, and no more. But no less, either. And no whining.”

Obama, elitist, was an unaccomplished high school senior provided with an ivy league education only to thieve tax money to line pockets of attorneys who further lobby and funnel multiple millions of dollars of misappropriated tax money and charitable contributions and grants to line pockets of corrupt board members, individuals and organizations that provide nothing but grief to the needy and elderly citizens of America.
This elitist Obama has the nerve to disrespect accomplished women. Indeed, he has never forgiven his tramp of a mother who dropped him off with white gramma instead of black Kenyan gramma, AS IF Barack would rather have grown up Kenyan!
Those elitists supporting the Obama Elite Campaign now prove their unworthiness to represent America by attacking parents of Down syndrome children, pushing them all into a home closet or attic to hide from public view, discriminating against their contributions to public service, bigoted against both parents and children.

I don’t think it’s completely out of the question that Hillary might be quietly (but not officially) encouraging the PUMAs to support PALIN . She has to be some P.O.ed about the OBAMA camp caucus fraud and intimidation used in AT LEAST 15 (so far ) STATES. There is video and statements starting to get onto the net. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED is just part of it. When BO is not elected the house of cards falls apart, DEMs will be trying to escape the collapse. I’m not quite so hard on Janet myself. I too live in AZ. But I found myself thinking did Janet ever complaign that being a woman caused harsher critism? And I don’t ever remember her doing that. And yeah I think some of what she gets is sexist. Hillary did complain or at least her staff did. I think bringing attention to it is fine. But better done by someone else.
Before I knew who Janet was a guy I know who is high in Repub. circles here was describing her and he said, ” Just wait until you hear her voice! She sounds like a man!” I think Janet’s voice is fine. I think that was a sexist thing to say. I disagree with her and have been really mad at her but… I don’t dislike her.
And then you probably know all the rumours they try to get started about her… I don’t think it is fair.

I actually think there may have been PUMAs encouraging him to pick her. I thought Gerraldine was very coy about voting for Obama. There are some pretty mad women overthere weighing the option to punish the party for the way they were treated. I think they are worried about how pro-life she is…. or it would be a slam dunk!
As it is revenge may win out. But I think she could be a force for quite awhile. And they couldn’t control her like they do the women in their own party.

Seeing’s how she plays basketball…If you dive to the basket and get fouled, you take your free throws. If the Obama campaign pulls anything really nasty, it’s a flagrant foul and they get even farther behind in the game. The whining about racism is, of course, a technical. And the more the Obama team tries to put the heat on her, the easier it is to pass out to McCain for a jump shot through the “experience” hoop. I’m not worried.
