Palin: Let’s shatter that glass ceiling that Hillary cracked; Update: Full video added

posted at 1:30 pm on August 29, 2008 by Allahpundit

The shameless yet thrilling Wolfsonesque crescendo from a momentous debut. Full video to follow. I’m pessimistic (as always) about the pick and will explain why in a post to follow, but I’m glad he chose her anyway. She’s irresistible, and in this year of all years we’ve got nothing to lose. Put the election on the table and roll the dice.

Don’t forget to show your gratitude to the man who made it possible. Thanks, Barry!

Update: Obama tries to manage the instant backfire from his campaign’s moronic attack this morning on her inexperience by congratulating her for busting barriers.

Update: Here’s the full video.

Isn’t it REMARKABLE how all of a sudden, Dims are worried about a President being killed in office. They seem to think any Secret Service protection our current President utilizes is too much, but they are oh so worried about a McCain assassin.

You’re as brave an American as Sarah Palin, which must explain why you live in one of the last best states in the country. I too was thinking about you and recalling the other conversations we’ve had here re: Palin FTW. Congrats to you.

Among all her other attributes, it helps for me that she’s an Idaho native, a true Western governor, and a graduate of my alma mater (Go Vandals!)

DerKrieger – Palin wraps up the Hockey vote. A lot of them in PA, Michigan, northern Ohio, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Even upstate New Yorkers are going to like her.

I daresay this busts the balloon of Obama trying to win Montana as well.

DerKrieger on August 29, 2008 at 2:07 PM

And Biden is a Delaware politician we see on TV in PA because Delaware is in the PA TV market.

Didn’t Biden live in PA until he was eleven? And Obama claims some “foreign policy experience” because he lived in Indonesia until about that age? Why does either think the first decade of their lives has anything whatsoever to do with qualifications for president?

Ridge would have given McCain PA. I’m from that part of the country as well, and people who are worried about the economy and other issues won’t suddenly feel enamored to the Republican ticket. Palin and Hillary have only 1 thing in common and that’s gender- Palin won’t get Hillary’s vote in Michigan or Pennsylvania. In fact, you can expect Hillary to handle the dirty work of attacking Palin head on. People who think she’s in for light handling because of gender are in for a rude awakening. Hillary will b-slap Palin with pleasure and enthusiasm- you should know that about Hillary by now.

lol,

Was that an Al Gore vs. GWB sigh complete with eyeroll?

I’m not saying it was a bad pick, but she was picked because she is a woman, to counter Obama’s non-pick of Hillary, and to counter Obama having the only “first” to be possible in this election. Palin is a good pick, and will do the job as well as anyone else, but she wouldn’t have been picked had she been a 60 year old bald guy with the same policy positions. It is how the game goes, and McCain played it well.

I have stated it before and I feel strongly that the US will elect a woman President or VP before they will elect a black man. I am not advocating it nor am I saying it is right, but I believe it is likely.

History has shown that women got the right to vote first, they were on the Supreme Court first, they were Sec state first. There are undoubtedly more… I predict they will be VP and President first as well.

So I made effort send a donation via the net but the page left me hanging after I clicked the submit button so I’m hoping it actually went through. I won’t be able to confirm it till my statement arrives next month but I had to show my pleasure with McCain’s choice – of course I entered the name ‘Sarah Palin’ for my referral.

I can’t believe how poorly Obama is running his campaign (not to mention his life) and how well the McCain team is cleaning his chronometer.

There will be rough days ahead. There will be doubts, and scandals. And some people will simply not give a Republican a chance to speak much less vote for one. But I’m more confident now than ever that the next President of the United States I’m going to be hating will be John McCain. Who knows, maybe Palin can teach an old dog some new tricks about border enforcement and global warming cultism.

Allah, you have been a downer and wet blanket for months. I too was a die hard McCain hater, ever since 2000, and was disgusted with his primary win. I “knew” it was over for us in November, reading all of the anti-”Juan” comments from everyone.

But now, I have been energized and gotten my wallet involved. I believe the game has changed, and I will give her the faith I would not invest in McCain. This shows he can reach across the isle to a real conservative, and I respect that.

So, Allah, this is why you should lighten up and join the fun. If I am excited, you can be too if you try hard enough.

Ha ha, no Palin will give Hillary more motivation than ever before. The idea that another woman- esp. one from the right- has a shot to beat Hillary into the White House will drive her into a frenzy. And you thought Hillary was tough on Obama- you aint seen nothin yet.

I’m happy about this ticket as well but don’t forget about the windfall profits tax.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

shick on August 29, 2008 at 2:21 PM

Shick let me answer that.

The windfall was actually part of the Murkowski administration of 22-25% tax on all oil. Sarah took it over and set it as a different pace. It was based on BBL at the 15.00 mark.. not the mark of now. It was approved also via the Legislature to increase the tax.. because the oil companies were being “stingy” concerning taxes. That is one reason why Sarah got elected. She and the Dept of Natural Resources put it in the right frame of mind and gives tax incentives for those oil companies who explore.

Also if you are wondering about the 1200.00 checks that are not part of the Perm fund. That is a tax incentive for Alaskans. We are paying HIGHER then anyone in the Nation. As of today, gasoline is 4.29 a gallon, do you pay that much? 1200 is suppose to be for energy.. but you can’t tell people what to spend their money on. She and the legislature also will be stopping the gas tax for alaska for a year (8 cent decrease very soon) and is giving more incentives for families who are poor. This is a win win for everyone here in this State. As we are being punished living up here it seems and yet we have oil.

Sarah is a great Gov. I will miss her.

Furthermore, re: Hillary & Sarah Palin: Hillary can’t attack her too hard or she’ll hack off the main demographic she has, which is women — who will eventually want Hillary to simmer down & shut her mouth about their new homegirl.

So don’t get your hopes up too high, bayam — women are already massively jumping on the McCain Express and deserting the Obama Train Wreck over this.

Hillary wants women on her side if she is to attempt to have any national political future. I predict she will be at least secretly happy for Obama to lose, since then her way will be paved in 4 years.

Edouard on August 29, 2008 at 2:49 PM

This puts Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota in play. We only loss Pennsylvania 51-49, Michigan 51-48, Wisconsin 50-49 (I believe after all the democrat fraud we actually won Wisconsin) and Minnesota 51-48. I bet we flip 2 of those.

Capitalist Infidel on August 29, 2008 at 2:49 PM

McCain picked the VP candidate who is most like himself in style and decision making. That makes it a lot easier for him. He will not be fighting with Daddy and she is swifter than Lindsey Graham

Palin should play better in Europe than Obama. She has the hairstyle, glasses, bod preferred for the mystery woman in Euro entertainment. There is a distance in her body language that conflicts with the fast talking. I predict a fascination overseas. She will not have to use a rock band.

Biden will not have a clue how to handle her although I won’t watch them debate because I dislike the voices of both VP candidates.

I enjoy listening to McCain and caught him recently taking on veterans rights. He sounded sincere as much as Obama sounds calculating

With gas prices at their highest and a governor with a good energy policy, we can drill our way out of this, we can win!
Kini on August 29, 2008 at 1:50 PM

This is her ticket. She can be the expert on how Alaska can be the key to drilling our way out of our current energy crisis. In sales we call it “demonstration of high value,” in the form of expertise; it is what makes a person a leader. Since people want the information, they follow, and THAT is what confers leadership. Grue_, you’ve peaked my curiosity *eats*…does that mean you take time out for a snack after every post…?

If so, I hope it’s either a fruit or vegetable…!

J_Gocht on August 29, 2008 at 3:18 PM

I don’t know why this came to mind.

hillbillyjim on August 29, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Gocht,

Obama is much closer to a “Quayle” than Sarah Palin ever will be. And certainly not for the obvious reason of sex. But keep pushing that meme….idiot.

In the attic lies
Voices scream
Nothings seen
Reals a dream

Leaving the things that are real behind
Leaving the things that you love from mind
All of the things you learned from fears
Nothing is left for the years

Voices scream
Nothings seen
Reals a dream

(chorus)
Toys, toys, toys in the attic
Toys, toys, toys in the attic
Toys, toys, toys in the attic
Toys, toys, toys in the attic

Do you recall Al Gore’s theme song from 2000…?

J_Gocht on August 29, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Thanks a million for putting that tune in my head.

Aaarrgh!

Love the speech. Somehow seeing her just makes me smile. McCain looks pretty awkward just standing there, however. He should have taken a seat.

The Principal Chair on August 29, 2008 at 4:41 PM

Really entagor, Saint Mc, gives a hot damn for veterans…?

I’m an olde vet and I think he stinks like Limburger cheese…!

J_Gocht on August 29, 2008 at 3:11 PM

Good point, McCain made the push to erase the memory of the POW/MIA and rushed to normalize relations with the next low wage worker’s paradise, Vietnam

I meant McCain did sound sincere and touching while Obama always sounds uncomfortable when talking soldier, flag and country

This thread is hard to take because I am not a Palin fan anymore than I am a Huck fan. Anyone who says anything negative about Palin right now will be tarred and feathered in the threads. Ask me how I know. I have been accused of slime on another famous blog for mentioning a lack of enthusism.

I know people who dislike Palin deeply simply after watching her Charlie Rose interview. I know people who cannot stomach Hillary either.

Right now, anyone who stands in the way of the band waggon is going to be worked over. No dissent allowed

McCain should have just left Ohio altogether!

I gotta agree, Calm_, VP Quayle was awfully “light in his loafers…

Hell of a fine golfer though…

Palin looks much better in high heels and she doesn’t look taller than your aging Saint…

Outstanding…!

You’re in good company…!

I was there!!!! We finished the project I was in town for early and I ran over to the Nutter Center. Just now getting to my computer, but I managed to snag what may have been THE last ticket into the place, and it was standing room only and electric. I called the Mrs. to tell her where I was, then my cell phone died (#$%$%# motorola). Anyway, I got inside, standing way at the top, and a woman next to me got a text message and said CNN reporting Palin gets the nod. Then McCain arrived late (he has got to work on getting places on time, that is two counting Saddleback), and started talking. They were having trouble with the mike all morning, most of the speakers had to use a handheld and apparently no one could get the podium mike fixed. Anyway, in the cheap seats we could barely hear McCain, but I caught the word PTA, and then mayor, and then Governor. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES! HOT DAMN is right, Rush! The guy next to me asked aloud who he was talking about and I said “Palin”, then his lightbulb popped on. He leaned over and said something to the woman standing next to him, and she turned to look at him and said “No” (as in, surely you jest). And then McCain announced Palin, and damn, the roof went off the place. It was freakin’ magic. Smiling faces everywhere. Again, could barely hear Palin speaking, but caught enough of it to know she nailed her speech. Man, the only way it could have been a better day was to have had a cell phone camera that worked. $%#$%#$ motorola.

Hey hill and gulley, I’m rather curious…
Did you go back and listen to the Macarena a second or third time…?

I took a music appreciation class one time where we had to rate melodies and rhythm beats combined … the “Mac” came out near the top of everyone’s list.

Imagine that, me with any music appreciation…?

J_Gocht on August 29, 2008 at 5:26 PM

When I saw the full video, I had tears of pride and joy.
Way to go McCain and Palin! Go for the win.

NaCly dog on August 29, 2008 at 5:37 PM

Today got me more jazzed about this election than I’ve been in a very long time. Who cares that McC made his pick last night and reaaaallly wanted Lieberman! We got Palin! WOO HOO!

Off topic but Grue, you make me want to find a Zork emulator for my MacBook Pro.
