Palin: Let’s shatter that glass ceiling that Hillary cracked; Update: Full video added

The shameless yet thrilling Wolfsonesque crescendo from a momentous debut. Full video to follow. I’m pessimistic (as always) about the pick and will explain why in a post to follow, but I’m glad he chose her anyway. She’s irresistible, and in this year of all years we’ve got nothing to lose. Put the election on the table and roll the dice.
Don’t forget to show your gratitude to the man who made it possible. Thanks, Barry!
Update: Obama tries to manage the instant backfire from his campaign’s moronic attack this morning on her inexperience by congratulating her for busting barriers.
Update: Here’s the full video.

I am so impressed with Sarah Palin.
She WILL be the nations first POTUS – I predict it today.
jake-the-goose on August 29, 2008 at 1:31 PM
Good to see that someone else is both pessimistic yet still positive about today’s events like I am. I knew you wouldn’t let me down, AP!
Wineaholic on August 29, 2008 at 1:32 PM
Well I look forward to that post because your concerns expressed earlier on experience don’t seem substantial enough to be of any major consideration.
I don’t think any other pick could have excited the base the way this has either.

Thank you maverick!
This is the best choice and our voices were heard. We wanted Palin and we got her.

Hmmm Allah is slowly coming aboard the Palinmania?
Welcome ALLAH!
upinak on August 29, 2008 at 1:33 PM
I cannot wait to see how the Clinton supporters react. This nomination takes every attack that Obama had coming and throws it back at him. This is simply brilliant.
ApartforHaShem on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
She looks very good to be 280 years old
Elizabetty on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Allah it almost seems like an act, here, the pessimism thing.
Dr. Manhattan on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
I am pumped up for this pick! Consider the base energized.
BrianBoru on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Another point I haven’t seen mentioned – we now have two non-lawyers running against two lawyers.
If you like lawyers – Vote Democrat!
Realist on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Republicans cheering for Hillary. Who’d have thunk it? Nice speech, though.
ReubenJCogburn on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Well I’m not pessimistic, I think McCain picked the right person for the VP and perfectly demolished any positive media Obama’s speech would have generated. Also I think McCain has setup a trap for Obama. If he attacks Palin on experience (which we already has) he opens himself perfectly for more hammering on that issue.
Simply put, this was a brilliant move by McCain.
Kronos on August 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM

Everything else was a snoozer and more importantly:
It’s time for a woman in the WH; preferably a conservative one.

OK, can we stop it with the McCain Nails VP Selection and the McCain Taps Palin titles?

More like making 2 free throws. Still 2 points, but uncontested. We’ll see how she does against the Dem’s full court pressure.

What is going to happen in the first Hillary interview when asked about Palin’s comments on the glass ceiling? How does she respond?
ApartforHaShem on August 29, 2008 at 1:36 PM
PALIN! PALIN! PALIN!
Per my promise up and down the speculation threads, I just tossed the McCain-Palin camp $50.
When asked for a referral, I put down one name:
HILLARY CLINTON
Time to make good on my promises to work the HELL out of campaigning for this ticket as a former Hillary supporter!
Classy, classy, classy job Gov. Palin. I’m now a total Palin-ite. Go McCain-Palin!
lansing quaker on August 29, 2008 at 1:36 PM

Jim-Rose on August 29, 2008 at 1:36 PM
I hate to say this but she looked more comfortable than McCain with her speech.
Interesting fact, between McCain and Palin, have 4 children in the military combined. McCain 2 on active duty, and one in military academy, and Palin with her son. I dare the democrats to say that McCain doesn’t understand the sacrifice of war, I dare them.

Monas on August 29, 2008 at 1:39 PM
Give me a break, Palin isn’t going to win over Hillary’s feminist supporters. People aren’t so simple-minded to see Hillary and Palin as identical because of their gender.
Not sure why McCain didn’t go with a candidate who altered the electoral map by locking up a state like Pennsylvania or Ohio. That outcome would have created a nearly insurmountable obstacle for Obama. Palin doesn’t really change anything.

Yeah, if I were designing the perfect VP choice I would have preferred more executive experience. However, I’ll take someone with 2 years of solid credentials for reform and cleaning up the corruption in her own party over someone with 8 years of cronyism anyday.

cornfed,
“More like making 2 free throws. Still 2 points, but uncontested. We’ll see how she does against the Dem’s full court pressure.”
Since she was the point guard for the state champs in high school, I like her chances beating the press. (Pun intended.)
exhelodrvr on August 29, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Not too worried. The Dems know they need to be careful. There are lots of women out there that are mad that Obama won. Hitting Palin too hard will only send all those women to supporting her and McCain. It was a very good pick.
guitarplayer on August 29, 2008 at 1:40 PM
One thing even you can’t manage to be pessimistic about: win or lose, Palin promises to be entertaining and interesting.
If nothing else, McCain just made your job a lot easier.
Professor Blather on August 29, 2008 at 1:40 PM
All women MUST vote for Sarah Palin.
Hillary paved the way for women…discounting Geraldine Ferraro and Shirley Chisholm.
Save Hillary’s Legacy…. vote for McCain-Palin.

Cody1991 on August 29, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Yep, I can’t think of a better all around choice. It’s a gamble to be sure, but it looks like a good one.
My only reservation is whether she can raise her game to the level needed to survive the media spotlight in a national, Presidential campaign in the short time available. 99% of the electorate is going to be seeing her for the first time, and at least 90% of the media will be out to get her, so an early, Quayle-like stumble of some sort would be disastrous.
LagunaDave on August 29, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Come on now- we’re not ALL bad…
ConservativeLawStudent on August 29, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Clinton voters are not going to vote for someone so pro-life. It ain’t going to happen. This pick sent them to Obama. Does it matter? Not sure, I never bought the strategy of courting liberals anyway. I am concerned that her lack of experience and newness to the Governorship blunts criticism about Obama’s thin resume.
Ann NY on August 29, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Palin is the perfect choice. She’ll gain experience over 4 years. The VP doesn’t really do anything. She’s great on oil, guns, abortion, marriage, spending, corruption. She’s a great pick for the future of the party. . . and maybe she can straighten McCain out on some of his big government positions.

Yep, good pick. Either he is not as dumb as I think, or some fast talkers persuaded him not to do the dumb thing (the dumb thing being a Lieberman or Ridge pick).
Hey Jake the Goose, I’ll bet you any amount of money that she will not be the “nation’s first POTUS”.
Gaunilon on August 29, 2008 at 1:42 PM
Hear, hear… I said the same thing to my wife this morning.
We could very well be looking at a Hillary vs. Palin race in 2012. (If McCain wins 08′ and decides not to run in 12′)
Once again the conservatives have proven that they are the party of progress; using actions and not words.
Go McCain – Palin!
Claypigeon on August 29, 2008 at 1:42 PM
Hmm, AP. McCain/Palin vs Obama/Biden.
I think we’ve got a hell of a lot to lose.
It was an inspired pick and today’s the day to be optimistic.

Any remnant worries I had disappeared about midway through her speech, which I watched with a “normal working man” who took the time off from putting in a new floor here. He didn’t know hardly anything about her, and was “wow”-ed.
She’s got steel, all the way down to the bedrock of her principles. She doesn’t know how to back down on what really matters. It doesn’t even enter her mind. That’s what you dream about having in a president before anything else.
Toldja all that Mav was OK. Are at least some of you beginning to believe me now?
Pessimism is totally inappropriate and useless at this point, with around two months to defeat BO, and the GOP suddenly as energized as it’s been since around 1984 or so.

Turn out the lights, the party is over. There will be a landslide for McCain as I predicted. The McCain ticket has it all. Palin is Anti-Choice(I’m pro-choice), but means little to me in the grand scheme in that socialism has been thwarted for at least another four years. Listening to Andrea Mitchell to get a feel for how the moonbats are taking this. Her voice sounds like her husband left her, she got fired this morning and her dog died. I can’t wait until Olbergoebbels is on tonight. May be his straight jacket night tonight….Convention, what convention? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah………………

2016: Republican ticket Palin/Jindal take on Democratic ticket Clinton/Obama.
carbon_footprint on August 29, 2008 at 1:46 PM
Sigh.
Right. Because appealing to more than half the electorate – right after the opposing party angered a significant percentage of the demographic – isn’t as good as taking a (almost certain to fail) stab at swinging one state.
Hey, how’d that strategy work out for President Kerry?
Keep your day job. If Palin does manage to pull even a point or two worth of Hillary voters, she could swing half a dozen states.
There was no choice out there that could “lock up” Ohio – and nobody that could deliver Pennsylvania. It rarely works out that way.
Professor Blather on August 29, 2008 at 1:47 PM
