I want to love it, guys. Sincerely. Just like I wanted to love “The Half-Hour News Hour.” But … I don’t know. I just. don’t. know. Look at it this way: How many good movies has Gary Coleman been in?
Exit question: Which lefty hatchet site will be the first to cite the zombie scene as promoting a wingnut “climate of violence”? Media Matters or Think Progress?

Really, AP, what are you expecting? Did you see High School High? Did you see Naked Gun 33 and 1/3? Zucker makes movies that are stupidly funny! More so than say “Dude, Where’s My Car?”, but not by much! This isn’t going to be Capra, Scorsese, or Coppola!
MadisonConservative on August 28, 2008 at 9:06 PM
I actually think that it could be pretty funny. Plus, anything to make the liberals wail and gnash their teeth is good for me.
prolix on August 28, 2008 at 9:06 PM
After the 2004 election, I sent Moore a heartfelt thank you card. Seriously. I’m reasonably sure that without Moore, we’d have a President Kerry right now, so I’m a big fan.
At the end of my nice, friendly note, I made one plea: to please take off that hat. Being a former Spartan myself, I offered to send him a nice cash donation if he’d promise to quit wearing it.
I never heard back. Weird.

I saw a few more scenes this time that I thought were funny than I did in the previous ads. Particularly the Rosie clip.
That being said, I would have preferred something a little more “Red-Eye” and a little less 1/2 Hour News Hour/Newsbusted youtube videos.

You know how Zucker’s movies are: the dumb jokes just hit you one after another until you lose control of your bladder and fall on the floor laughing, writhing in your own effluent.
Can’t wait to see it!

There are no “best jokes” in his movies, just a ton of them. And stop calling me Shirley.

The first three or so were painfully bad. Clapper humor at best.

Then I guess mine isn’t either because I thought it was funny, too. And maybe some of the kids who go to see it will actually learn a little bit about history, to offset the anti-American BS most of them are taught in public schools.

Y314K on August 28, 2008 at 9:23 PM
I’m not sure the guys from South Park would need to do a collaboration. They seem to be doing just fine on their own and despite their “conservative” leanings, do not have any trouble attracting hollyweird celebrities to their show.
It really is amazing what Trey and Matt have accomplished by using the most “liberal” medium to advocate a conservative agenda. I don’t think it would help them in Hollywood to join forces w/a pro-republican message movie.
They just don’t need to do it.

I loved it and the best was “They are not human, they are they ACLU” Loved the zombie scene in the court house. Reminded me of Miami Vice first or second episode court scene and power goes out and the judge, recorder and every person in the court pulled out a gun. Power back and the judge smiled and said sorry 2 amendment.

RAH on August 28, 2008 at 9:31 PM
The first few clips were grinners, but the clips with the terrorists alone were hilarious. “Marriage should be between a man and a woman, or a man and a really good looking man.” Classic.
Nethicus on August 28, 2008 at 9:33 PM
Dude, the part where he is in Cuba and wheelchair dude is getting executed in the background is classic!
Airplane was a riot, though it had many scenes devoid of gut busting humor, it had so many dam funny scenes that still make me laugh. I will be stoked if this one comes close.

blue13326 on August 28, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Trey & Matt are not so much Conservatives… But more in the Libertarian/Inde side of things… … And they can smell BS from sea to shinning sea… It’s just that they find so much crap by lefties that it ends up dominating their plots…
Sometimes when I get pissed at the Rhino’s…. I find myself identifying myself like a SPC… South Park Conservative…

gmoonster on August 28, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Why must we apply such ridiculous standards to our own? If John Stewart were one of us, we would tear him down because his lines are cheap and patronizing…..well….duh….
If every attempt at humor on our side must live up to a “Dennis Miller” standard of sophistication, we might as well not even try. I’m betting a good number of our guys think exactly that when they consider doing anything.

jgapinoy on August 28, 2008 at 9:53 PM
Off-topic, mostly, I think, but I think it’s worth saying something.
From the “canned response” referred to above:
Agreed. There is a time and place for everything, and one must be mindful of the company one is keeping when deciding what words to use (and not just “bad” vs. “good” words), just as in deciding what topics to bring up.
You hear this one often, but that doesn’t make it true. Many would argue that some ideas can be better expressed using words often regarded as “bad.”
The meaning of words in modern context is determined by usage, not derivation. By your logic, I could declare your use of profane in that sentence to be incorrect, because it’s primary meaning is “secular” in a broad sense, not vulgar (the primary/original meaning of which, by the way, is “of the common people,” and not profane per se). Very little you hear today would make any sense if we allowed only original definitions of words to be considered legitimate.
And such behavior is rightfully counted as blasphemy, which should have no place in a Christian’s life. And basic manners dictate that, even if not a believer, it’s impolite to use such terms when one is (or might be) nearby. It’s also, however, not a believer’s job to change a nonbeliever’s outward behavior, but to hope instead for inward change that would, consequentially, be reflected on the outside.
A lot of words on a silly subject. Maybe I’m just bored tonight, despite the ongoing spectacle in Denver.
Oh, uh, and the movie looks funny. I hope it really is.
Oathkeeper216 on August 28, 2008 at 9:54 PM
Oh come on AP, it looks pretty funny to me…
winewife on August 28, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Not a fan of the genre at all. These stupid lampoon comedies are a dime a dozen. Making a political one really doesn’t elevate the humor. At best you have to be mildly informed to get the jokes.
There’s a couple of good bits – the Chamberlain/Hitler scene for one, but I doubt I’d even bother to rent it.
It’s no ‘Team America’. I’m sure there are a few good laughs to be had if you are in for some low-brow political humor.
Bonus points for daring to lampoon the left. I wonder how many actors will get black-balled for appearing in this?
Mr Purple on August 28, 2008 at 10:01 PM

Your canned response shows you have never been in the presence of a Master of Cursing. Consider that there is the 7 words and then maybe 54 variations on those. So you have given someone a 61 word/phrase vocabulary. A Master can go for 5 + minutes stringing them together in creatively vile ways and not repeat. I think this shows a mind that works in a highly effective manner.
Go find a Master young Padwan..and bask in the glow of language. Just don’t laugh when someone else is having their actions critiqued or you may well find yourself the focus of such skill.
*grin*

Speaking as a social con/libertarian/evangelical (yeah, tough to define, and yes, I have been given permission to speak for all of them), who do you think have been going to all those Rambo, John Woo & Diehard movies? If you’re talking about the tight-reared crowd who sees something wrong with everything, they equal the number of left-wing 9/11 was an inside job types…….few, although larger than you’d imagine, but not all that many…just very loud.

The reporting of gross receipts for this movie will be under published, to say the least.

If you don’t think it’s funny, don’t go see it, but at least pony up for a ticket. Hollywood conservatives need all the encouragement they can get, and besides who wants to give the libs the satisfaction of a fail?
