Huckabee to supporters: I was never vetted for VP and I’m not going to Dayton

Just a heads up to his fans to expect coal in their stockings tomorrow morning.
There are reports that I’m on my way to Dayton tonight. Not true. Wasn’t invited to be there and any reports that I’m going to be there are a big surprise to me. I have never been contacted by the McCain campaign at any point about the VP slot. I have never been asked for any information, background, etc., so as I have said repeatedly in interviews, I didn’t consider myself to be under any consideration. I think people thought I was being coy and just not talking, but I have built my political life on trying to shoot straight and tell it as it is and as I see it. I have been honest in telling you that I had no reason to believe I was ever seriously considered or “vetted” for the ticket. That’s why I have continued with HuckPAC because I have felt that we (me and you) shouldn’t give up, but rather gear up and help good pro-life, conservative people to office across the nation.
There were indeed reports that he’d be in Dayton as a show of solidarity with the other VP contenders, but I think they were simply confusing that with a rally in St. Louis on Sunday which he — and Romney — will (supposedly) attend. Exit question: Why go to the trouble of stressing he wasn’t invited tomorrow and that he wasn’t vetted? All that’ll do is stir up the same sense of grievance among the Huckheads that finding out Hillary wasn’t vetted stirred up in the PUMAs. Or is that the point?

Always assume the worst with this clown. He doesn’t know when to exit the stage. He’s garnering as much attention as he can before the pick is announced. He’ll be back in 2012 like a bubble in a cess pit.

Because cranky liberal bastard loses votes if Huckabee is attached to his campaign. Huckabee does not really speak for social conservatives and evangelicals. He is a kindred soul of cranky liberal bastard and the socialist agenda. The way Huckabee keeps popping as the McCain spokesman for evangelicals shows how much the idiots of cranky liberal bastard don’t understand the concerns of true evangelicals. I’d hope his stressing he isn’t going to be there tomorrow means we’ll see a no-questions-asked conservative added to the ticket of cranky liberal bastard.

Or is this just a clever ruse to hide the fact that he has been chosen? Or is it going to be Palin? Or Romney? Maybe even Pawlenty or Christ or Hillary or Lieberman?
Discuss for the next 500 posts.

Ok, once again, people can’t just be the bigger person and behave.
I wanted Huckabee to win, and would have liked him as VP. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with him not getting it though.
I think not going with Huck or Romney is smart. It keeps little mini-fights like the ones on this forum from going national.
Some will be sore losers. I think most who voted for Huckabee will still support this ticket.
I think Mike knows he has a few crazy followers and the sooner their letdown, the better. Just give the man a break.

Course he has supporters. If he didn’t Mitt would be veep..which he won’t be.
See yall in 2012. Mike will spend the next 4 yrs on TV and radio building his base and earning enough money to self finance. While Mitt gets old.
Next time..there won’t be any confusion about where the Bush evangelicals put their support. Lots of buyers regret in those quarters.
This thing isn’t close to being over.

Mccain/Pawlenty beats Obama Bin Biden anyday.
At least it’s not Romney. That would be the only thing that could tempt me to vote for Ubama.
Pawlenty may be boring, but on the plus side…he will be no competition for Huck in 2012!
It’s probaby best for Huck not to be associated with the RINO president who opened the borders and destroyed this country anyway.
SaintOlaf on August 28, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Of course the real reason he wasn’t vetted is probably because the McCain people knew if they even had him in for an interview he’d take the furniture with him. As a perk for being considered.

Once again, the Catholics turn up the hate on an evangelical. Why? My theory is that Catholics have an inferiority complex because they are biblically illiterate and they are uncomfortable with their faith, and are thus intimidated by people who aren’t.

Isn’t anything conclusive that Romney is out, so ya might still be considering voting for The One.
All I can say about Huckabee is that I am glad that McCain saw through his rather transparent veneer of Christian values. The man is nothing more than an ill-tempered opportunist. With McCain in the top spot that role is already being filled. The Republicans need somebody that can offset that by bringing across an image of being sensible and deliberate in their actions. That sure isn’t Huckabee.

By the grace of God, I am an Evangelical Christian myself. I personally subscribe to these propositions, and not to Rome.
I do not hate Huckabee.
However, I fear a Huckabee presidency because his speeches are full of confusion and error concerning the proper, God-ordained sphere of government and the different role and function of the individual Christian.
The sphere (or “Kingdom”) and role of government should never be conflated with that of the individual Christian believer. Huckabee has a public track record of
confusing and blurring the distinction between these two separate “kingdoms.”
And for that reason, I fear the policies of a Huckabee administration.

I was a Romney fan before he announced and liked the early form of Huckabee till he rolled out his bigoted attacks on Mitt. I don’t think Mike has gotten over the fact more conservatives backed Romney or McCain than him and he doesn’t understand why. It has to do with economic policy and criminal jurisprudence plus preachers turned politician tends to rub many Christians like myself the wrong way. I do think Mike would be very good as head of HHS but not as POTUS or VPOTUS as he does have some very good ideas pertaining to health care.
I am hoping for a Romney pick because he understands how the economy works and he gets the threat posed by the jihadis. He may be late to the prolife cause but so was Reagan who signed the nation’s most liberal abortion law as Gov of California. Mitt also has a massive network already in place that Huckabee never had.
Can Mitt connect with the regular joe? I would say yes since he took time off the trail to help dig a stump out of someones yard after the major fires in SoCal last year without dragging the press along. It was reported only on small blogs. I can disagree with the theology of the Mormons but I cannot deny the huge amount of charitable good works that they do and the fact they are very decent people. I disagree with Evangelicals and Catholics on many theological questions as well but that does not stop me from supporting the positions that we share.
goat on August 28, 2008 at 11:26 PM
I’m not crying. It’s just unnecessary. I don’t see the point in evangelicals and Catholics (and Mormons, etc.) taking potshots at eachother…I’m an evangelical btw (and no I’m not one of those evangelicals.) :)
