Video: Howard Wolfson unloads on Olbermann and Matthews

posted at 4:02 pm on August 27, 2008 by Allahpundit

Seems he doesn’t like being compared to Tokyo Rose simply because he’s willing to appear on a network where not every pundit comes from one side of the aisle. And if you think I’m exaggerating in saying that, do a nice slow scroll through Olby Watch’s list of guest analysts on “Countdown” dating back to the summer of 2006. You have to see it to believe it.

Incidentally, Wolfson’s flat wrong about Olbermann having spent the last two years attacking Hillary. To accuse him of that is to accuse him of having had the foresight or temerity to oppose her last year when she was the prohibitive favorite and the left’s golden girl. As late as the day after the Iowa caucuses, the nutroots were grumbling that he was in her pocket. Then Obama started winning and leftist loyalties began to shift, and like a good dog he rolled over and followed the tide. That’s how you get from point A, in which our modern-day Murrow actually interrupted an interview with Bill Clinton to hand him an envelope for his charity, to point B, screaming like the nutroots blogger he is (literally) about Geraldine Ferraro and lecturing Hillary on racial sensitivity, which must be the first time anyone callous enough to have earned a letter from the ADL has been that presumptuous.

As for the specific charge leveled against Wolfson, he shouldn’t take it personally. As I’ve noted before, there’s nothing Olby enjoys more than describing his opponents as enemies and terrorists, except perhaps affecting indignation when someone on the right returns the favor. So with no further ado, here’s the clip. Lest you feel too sorry for Wolfson, bear this in mind as you watch: His base created Olbermann. His constituents gave this bottom-feeder the power he now enjoys at MSNBC. And if he’d stayed in the tank for Hillary instead of hopping out and into the tank for Obama, Wolfson would have no problem with him.

Howard is alright for a liberal.

Griz on August 27, 2008 at 4:06 PM

The left’s purges are always a joy to behold.

Red Guard work seems a little too laborious for the fat/lazy far left in this country, but it’s kind of tough (not to mention hypocritical) to contract it out, so who knows what they’ll do?

I mean you can’t have the little dorks who marched in A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies running the concentration camps or no one will take them seriously.

NoDonkey on August 27, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Hillary Clinton is now a “conservative Democrat”. Keith Olbermann is a journalist. And now the liberals are to the left of Howard Wolfson? Either this is the end of the modern Democrat Party or the end of America.

D0WNT0WN on August 27, 2008 at 4:10 PM

It’s just so amusing to watch guys like Wofson, Rendell, the Clintons, etc. react to being treated like every single Republican has been treated by the MSM for decades.

SDarchitect on August 27, 2008 at 4:14 PM

A lot of this recent infighting on the left started with Howard Dean, who referred to the DLC as the Republican wing of the party. It was a mistake for Democrats to make him the chair of the party. They got short fused for their quest for power, and their grassroots efforts has mired them down in the weeds.

pt on August 27, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Incidentally, Wolfson’s flat wrong about Olbermann having spent the last two years attacking Hillary.

As sycophantic as Olby was to the Clintons until his switch to Obama, it’s NEVER sufficient to assuage the Clintons’ distrust of the media.

They’re ALL attacking us. Some just haven’t been obvious enough about it yet.

sulla on August 27, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Either this is the end of the modern Democrat Party or the end of America.

If there is another Democratic lose this year, I’m expecting Democrats to start strongly disavowing and going after the MoveOn.org’s and DailyKos’s of their party. They should have done it long time ago. I mean nothing is going to make these people happy anyway.

terryannonline on August 27, 2008 at 4:16 PM

David Horwitz, Tammy Bruce, Joe Lieberman, Bernie whats his name, Juan Williams, the list goes on and on. These liberals learn how mean the left is, how unforgiving, how relentless they are in making everyone follow the leftest agenda. Some stay as Dems, but they all see the Dems in a different light. I can see Williams wrestle with this, he is still a liberal, but he is less comfortable being a liberal.
Welcome to the real world Wolfson, you are just now beginning to see how ugly your party has become.

Those two fools need something running down their leg.

For me, trying to understand their thinking is kind of like trying to put myself in the mind of a homosexual in order to understands the mindset. I just can’t get there.

These two shmucks must have been hopelessly brainwashed in some fantacy land when they were young fools. I just can’t understand how non-retarded people can make themselves believe their mentality of downright stupidity.

Well the thing is we are seeing the Stalinist/Trotskyist split happening before our very eyes. There is a 5-15% deviation on methodology and almost no difference on goals but the ego and hubris of the actors in this little drama preclude true cooperation and demand “enemies” within to justify liquidation without.

sven10077 on August 27, 2008 at 4:20 PM

At some point MSNBC will have to pull back on the stick before they auger in.

I suspect we’re just now starting to see the engine sputter…

That would be the smart thing to do.

They took back Congress in ’06 by running Democrats who sounded like Republicans (but voted like Democrats, of course).

They didn’t win by going far left and they will lose this fall because they went far left.

Let’s hope the far left gives up on the Democrats and starts their own irrelevant third party.

I still can’t for the life of me understand why every single democrat didn’t denounce the “General Betray Us” full page ad that the New York Times ran at a discount for Move On PAC. Both the Times and Move On are advocates for Democrats. And while the people you list and more do not necessarily support this example, you would think that every single democrat would see this for the disgusting and baseless attack that it was.

Many people here suggest that we start a new party to punish the republicans for not being conservative enough. With that in mind, I really think that the sensible and sane democrats need to make sure that no unhinged people represent them, or that they need a fresh start with their own new party.

At least this guy has a sense of honor. Most of the fringe Leftists think that “honor” is tired and serves no meaningful purpose.

With the moderate Democrats being forced out by the loonies, what does this spell for the future of both parties? Will loyalty keep these alienated, besieged Democrats within their party, or will the GOP offer them the Center-Right under its Big Tent?

I think we are beginning to see the end of the ultra left wing of the party. From levitating the mint, the truthers, the shrill voice of the extreme left, and the pandering they demand from the Dems. It is beginning to take its toll. Kos is becoming just a bunch of kids with filthy mouths.
Just the beginning, but to survive the Dems. will learn they have to throw out that extreme part, just like the Republicans had to do with the extreme religious right.
Like a coyote in a trap, they have to gnaw off their leg to survive. Better to be three legged, then dead.

I can’t stand Wolfson and I really enjoy watching him attacked by the monster he helped to create.

Too bad Howie. Why don’t you two kids learn to play nice.

That’s “unloading”? What a gutless time we live in. Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann are nincompoops, and even worse — dangerous — but the danger they represent is only real because people, especially people within their own political ambit like Howard Wolfson, won’t perform the basic public service of calling them out.

You have pegged this right on. When reading history, I’ve often thought what it would have been like to live through momentous episodes.

I’ve mentioned many times this cycle that we are currently re-living the Roosevelt-Wilkie contest, in a backhanded kind of way. Except this time it’s the Dems that want to take an isolationist/protectionist posture; all this after they pushed the globalist/internationalist meme for so many years!!

I could never understand how people didn’t see how the strife overseas would ultimately effect us…NOW I KNOW…
