Ultimate heart-ache: Hillary puts Obama over the top for the nomination

And so a historic primary ends fittingly, with the great champion of delegate enfranchisement calling for an end to the state roll so that the Chicago machine politician might win by acclamation. I can’t find video of this afternoon’s Masada ritual, but it sounds like emotions ran high. “I am not telling you what to do,” she reminded them, and indeed, until the bitter end, she was still pulling somewhere between a third and half of her pledged delegates.
The women I love always break my heart. Sigh.

I am so proud of Hillary. What a nice gesture. We’ll see her in 2012 I’m sure.
kanda on August 27, 2008 at 7:50 PM
I think this might infuriate the PUMAs more, because this is something they didn’t want. They wanted all states to be able to vote.
We’ll just have to find out what happens.
Enoxo on August 27, 2008 at 7:51 PM
They made her “KISS THE ROD”. Shame on them.

AP loves the strong Dem women. KP and now Hillary.
What’s wrong? Palin or MKH not good enough?

Aw, Hillary. YOU COULD HAVE FOUGHT, HILL.
I am wiping away tears of disappointment. You know what this means, though: she thinks he’ll lose.
Well-Armed Lamb on August 27, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Schumer had a knife in her back.
lorien1973 on August 27, 2008 at 7:55 PM
This is a definite signal the Clinton’s dont’ think Obama can win. They didn’t want to upset the base by prolonging a floor fight. She would have been toast in 2012.
SouthernGent on August 27, 2008 at 7:55 PM
Notice how Pelosi didn’t even give delegates a chance to say ‘No’ to Hillary’s motion.
davenp35 on August 27, 2008 at 7:55 PM
And when Obama loses, she can say: “I did my part for that loser… but I told you so.”

PUMAs come home to your fellow in liberal ideology Juan Queeg-close enough to Hilly to share perfume.

an OT question, but why are liberals so dang ugly?
bloggless on August 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM
There’s nothing dramatic about this . . . the fix has been in for weeks. Hillary is for no one but Hillary and is only protecting her image. In fact, this whole convention fiasco is a monumental farce. The sad thing is that we waste most of our broadcast bandwidth on this crap.
rplat on August 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM
Hillary isn’t from New York as some loud mouth announced. She is of New York, to the ever lasting shame of native New Yorkers.

Half the people there look like they’re at their best friend’s funeral.
RBMN on August 27, 2008 at 8:03 PM
As much as I don’t like her politics, and we all know this gesture is her double-down bet against Obama. I still give her a lot of credit for putting up with the Nutroots…I mean the MSM, you know what I mean. It takes a lot a class for a narcissist like Clinton to do what she did tonight. Hillary, I’ll NEVER vote for you, but I salute you.
Lance Murdock on August 27, 2008 at 8:05 PM
I’m not quite an expert on figuring out one’s body language like that gal on O’Reilly’s show or that other dude on CBS, but my humble opinion says that it is possible that Hillary was burning up with hemmoroids and trying not to grimace in pain. Like I say, I’m far from an expert.
Travis1 on August 27, 2008 at 8:05 PM
Selected. A key word you are likely to hear repeated in the coming days.
Vashta.Nerada on August 27, 2008 at 8:05 PM
That is possibly the most ridiculously rigged, dog-and-pony show I have ever seen. Yeah, we all know that conventions are nothing but a info-mercial for the selected candidate, but still…
Hillary seemed less than enthusiastic while reading her prepared card. She seemed to keep catching herself and forcing enthusiasm into her voice at the end of each statement.
Then you have Blinky, who so obviously did not even pause for dissenting votes.
2/3rd’s? I didn’t see 2/3rd’s. I did see democratic process get abandoned for the sake of making it look like everyone supports the least qualified nominee in history.
Damiano on August 27, 2008 at 8:07 PM
The dramatic moment was live on Fox, and you could see in her face that she was fighting for her political life.
The Democrat party, as a party, seemed to be willing to risk losing the White House for the chance to retire the Clinton family.
As that realization sunk in, there were delegates in tears.
The Obama might yet win the election (one way or another).
The democrats have just ‘elevated the game’ from regular season to the championship playoffs.
rockhauler on August 27, 2008 at 8:10 PM
She didn’t even blink!
Hening on August 27, 2008 at 8:10 PM
Didn’t matter as 2/3+ had already voted in the affirmative.
amerpundit on August 27, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Maybe I’m a little dense. Did she not say that the conduct of the roll call vote should be suspended, and in the next sentence say that all votes will be counted, and finally that Obama should be selected by acclamation? That’s a logic twist worthy of her husband defining the word ‘is’.
Vashta.Nerada on August 27, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Sad…. operation Chaos is officially over.
Can we start talking about Olby? What were the line bets he got in another sissy fight today?
Sergei on August 27, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Hillary did what she had to do…………NOW…Let the games begin.
The ‘O’ better be watchin his back.
Just my opinion of course.
Old Hippie Vet on August 27, 2008 at 8:13 PM
As expected, the Democratic party doesn’t allow its members to vote.

The prospect of Hillary being a potential Supreme Court nominee should Obama win should send a chill down everyone’s spine.
CP on August 27, 2008 at 8:17 PM
She’s done more than enough damage to the Messiah, enough to keep him out of the White House. And once he’s an also-ran, she’ll be able to construct an unopposable White House run against McCain in 2012. She doesn’t want to wait until she’s 69 to run again.

It may be over, but its effects will roll like a tsunami to 2012.
John the Libertarian on August 27, 2008 at 8:19 PM
All this talk of discord was nothing more than a brilliant scheme to increase TV ratings for the convention.
OT: Did you know that ‘gullible’ is actually not listed in the dictionary? I’m cereal.

I’m a native New Yorker and I’m proud of Hillary Clinton. I’m not ashamed of her in the least. Perhaps you are not aware of all she has done for New york over the past 8 years. You also may not have noticed New York reelected her to the Senate 2 years ago because of her performance on the job on our behalf. And oh yeah I’m a Republican.
kanda on August 27, 2008 at 8:21 PM
The women I love always break my heart.
Do they? Let’s flash back: “Say it with me: Selected, not elected.”
And she did.

Obama just lost the election.
Vashta.Nerada on August 27, 2008 at 8:23 PM
I think she was coerced into it. Just look where she’s standing- it’s the most dangerous spot on Earth: Between Schumer and a television camera.

TheBigOldDog on August 27, 2008 at 8:28 PM
I don’t get it. Could Obama’s fragile ego not survive the possibility of only getting 80% of the Primary votes? Where would be the real harm in that?
It seems to me this is about as bad as Hillary could have made it. She gave Obama a lukewarm endorsement, and now she’s refusing her minions the cathartic ritual battle they needed to blow off steam.
And in doing so, her backdoor politics are only going to make her own party a target for the psychotic conspiracy theorists she’s been carefully cultivating for the past 8 years.
logis on August 27, 2008 at 8:31 PM
Flipping thru the stations, the DNCC convention has become a black pep rally, not a nomination proceeding.
What a disgusting display. The DNC displays the only card it has - the race card.
madmonkphotog on August 27, 2008 at 8:31 PM

Maybe you should read and watch the news. All we’ve heard from the left is that race should not matter, yet that’s what they’re propping up this evening.
If race shouldn’t matter, why point it out?
Get a clue.
madmonkphotog on August 27, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Seems like democrats are misusing the term “democratic” like conservatives are misusing the term “federalist” (federalist means STRONG, CENTRAL GOVERNMENT not strong state-run governments).
DethMetalCookieMonst on August 27, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Sadness. No more Op Chaos. Sadness again. Catch you on the flip side Hill!
freeus on August 27, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Heh! You caught that, too?
Is Pelosi’s call for a vote here how she ramrods her power in the House? With all of her teeth on display, Pelosi lets not even a nanosecond of time take place between a call for objections and the fait accompli?
onlineanalyst on August 27, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Have no fear, the debates will be here.
DethMetalCookieMonst on August 27, 2008 at 8:54 PM
But a slender hope yet flickers. . .
Yes, it is difficult, in these trying times, with poor Hill publicly debased and humiliated before the masses at the direction of the one.
But, even at this dark moment - remember - never, EVER neglect to careful parse a Clinton!!!!
She looked dead square in the camera, and declared he be SELECTED, via acclamation.
She’s still playing the long game, folks.
That’s the Hill we’ve come to loathe and despise, so, buck up, campers! There’s hope!

How often is the candidate nominated by acclamation? I thought it was very rare. This is another sign that Obama is weak. Operation Chaos isn’t over. This is just the grand finale of Act One. Act Two will play out between now and Election Day. And Act Three will be tearing up the Dems from the inside out for years to come. Viva el Rushbo!
