Democratic convention, night three: Aggrieved victim of Obama camp’s racial demagoguery to endorse Obama; Update: Messiah returns to earth, appears in Denver
posted at 8:06 pm on August 27, 2008 by Allahpundit
Harry Reid’s due to speak any minute now, followed a bit later by Evan Bayh and Tom Daschle. Bill Clinton gets his eight-minute quickie around 9 p.m. ET to impart the sort of national security wisdom he gleaned from letting Osama Bin Laden run free during the 1990s, then Biden comes on sometime around 10:15 to beat up on McCain. There had better be major attacks on the GOP tonight because the fightin’ nutroots is already grumbling about the lack of fightiness thus far and surely no one expects Captain Hope during his moment in the agora tomorrow to stoop to anything so mean as actual politics.
Two pieces to pass the time while you wait, the first a vignette from Joe Conason about Obama snubbing Billy Jeff’s invitation to dine and the second the obligatory, ceremonial, 1,000th Hot Air link to Sean Wilentz’s TNR piece from February about how the “post-racial candidate” demagogued Billary to racial oblivion. Consider it an ironic counterpoint to tonight’s piece in Politico about former Clinton lackey turned Obama supporter Rahm Emanuel demagoguing McCain to racial oblivion. Note to B.C.: It’s really nothing personal. Barry O’s cronies do this to everyone.
Update: Ah, I should have guessed. It’ll be Waffles, wearing the veteran badge of Absolute Moral Authority and martyred by the evil Rethuglican Swift Boat attacks, who’ll do the honors in bludgeoning McCain.
Update: Biden’s speech is over and The One is onstage.

Blowback

What I don’t get….is that they are all talking about restoring America’s greatness…..But..they don’t want America to be a superpower. They want America to be humbled…or something. Their message is so confusing.

I’m only part of the way through Bill’s speech (as I had the DVR paused while I made some food earlier), but did anyone else find it odd that a former president, preparing to give a speech (insincerely) endorsing a potential future president, had to come out to a song, which contains the most memorable lyrics “don’t stop thinking about tomorrow” and “yesterday’s gone”. Though I’m sure he had some say in what song he would come out to, doesn’t it seem like they specifically chose a song to tell him he’s yesterday’s news?

CNN: McCain has chosen VP. No name.
ganeshpuri89 on August 27, 2008 at 10:01 PM
I hope New Orleans is evacuating ahead of Gustav, so the media will actually cover the Repub convention.
bridgetown on August 27, 2008 at 10:01 PM
McCain wanted the election to be about the issues. Not about what Kerry did while in Vietnam. He was also against the left’s attacks on Bush in regarding the democrats’ bogus AWOL charge.
As a senator, his goal has always been to work at his job and get things done. And he recognized the destructive nature of the politics as usual. Something that Obama now says he’s for, and then lies about McCain. While McCain might want to play nice, the democrats don’t. And they don’t reciprocate when republicans ‘play nice’ with them.
He did not support or campaign for Kerry for 2004. But he was against what he saw as unnecessary and potentially a political stunt that could backfire. And it did.
Some people can understand the difference.

no…do tell?
bridgetown on August 27, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Yes he did. Quite publicly I might add. In addition he entertained the idea of being his runningmate. This is how Dems pay people back.
TheBigOldDog on August 27, 2008 at 10:02 PM
My theory about why people didn’t evacuate before Katrina?
Waiting on Government checks to pay for gas to leave.
However, most of those people left behind moved to Houston.
carbon_footprint on August 27, 2008 at 10:03 PM
They won’t cover it accuratly anyway.
remember what party the mayor and govenor, who killed all those people, belong to. Dems are ruthless people, nothing is below them.

DaveC on August 27, 2008 at 10:12 PM
1998, Operation Desert Fox.
2000, Regime change in Iraq becomes official policy.
I am sick and tired of people telling us Iraq was the wrong war.
Al Qaeda thought it was a central front in their war against us, and that is what counts.
James on August 27, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Hanks narrated the movie.

Isn’t McCain’s son a veteran?
James on August 27, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Mike Murphy, the Republican representative on MSNBC, is getting Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and the crowd all worked up. They were on the verge of losing it. Olbermann wanted to cut Murphy’s camera time. They can’t take even the slightest opposing view against Obama and the Democrats. I mean Harold Ford Jr. showed more composure and objectivity than the rest of the MSNBC crew and crowd.
Murphy said MSNBC is so in the tank that they should be filming this on a submarine.
He also said the Clintons will quietly vote for McCain in the voting booth.

I am actually in New Orleans right now on business.
People are tense and getting ready to leave.
Jindal has actually said the evacuations could start as early as Fri assuming Louisiana is in the path of the storm.
Not that it will matter if Gustav takes out New Orleans once again, with no loss of life. The MSM will still have a field day.
They will not mention the award “Willie Wonka” Nagin received (among protests) last week a block away from me.
