Alert the Media: John Gibson on the Temple of the One; Update: Bad Democratic reviews

John Gibson will have me as a guest at 7:10 ET to discuss Barack Obama and the Temple of the One in Denver. Personality cult, or just a classic setting for public speeches? John and I will discuss it — hope you can join us!
Meanwhile, here’s a reminder of the fun that Greco-Roman themes can bring to a party:
Update: ABC’s Rick Klein calls this a “Greek tragedy”:
Reporters got their first glimpse of the stage where Barack Obama will deliver his speech tomorrow night at Invesco Field. Reuters described the set as similar to a “Greek temple.”
Thus a legend — not the good kind — was born.
Said one Democrat: “This is a disaster of mythical proportions.” Said another: “It’s not enough that he wants to be president — he wants to be Zeus.” Said the first: “Will he send down thunderbolts from the mountain?” …
For the candidate who brought you his very own faux-presidential seal, this is not a good perception. Obama aides insist that the set is staying, and that it won’t look as bad as it sounds right now; the real backdrop, they say, will be his supporters.
I guess this means he’s skipping the toga.

Heh…Obama’s gonna put the US on “double secret probation”.
JetBoy on August 27, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Nah, but he has done it with Hillary’s delegates and their convention votes.
Damiano on August 27, 2008 at 6:17 PM
Could be worse coulb be P Diddy whining that it costs too much for him to fly his jets around for his acting career
I just put it up so give youtube some time to get ir processed

yo bro can you spare some JP-4 dog?
sven10077 on August 27, 2008 at 6:25 PM
Well, it appears that the Dems have deflated Barac-rates’ spanakopita. Many flaky layers, and falls apart at first notice.
MB007 on August 27, 2008 at 6:27 PM
Is Obama surrounded by the worst kind of “Yes” men and women? Isn’t there a sane one in the bunch?
bbz123 on August 27, 2008 at 6:28 PM
Hmm, Fireworks after the speech, wonder if those are his “lightning bolts”?
offroadaz on August 27, 2008 at 6:28 PM
I do -not- want to see Zeus’ lightning bolt. Can we at least make sure of that?
OR
So the problem with McCain’s “celebrity” ad is that Moses wasn’t deific enough?
On the other hand, Zeus may be appropriate:
I think I’ve heard all of those associated with Obama.
lorien1973 on August 27, 2008 at 6:28 PM
Zeus was also quite the little skirt chaser. Or so I hear tell…..
Interesting interpretation…..
mjk on August 27, 2008 at 6:30 PM
He had a fondness for changing shape, getting what he wanted and taking off. Sounds like a good formula for tax policy to me!
lorien1973 on August 27, 2008 at 6:30 PM
DANG.

Thanks for the update! Paging Mel Brooks.

McCain’s campaign sent out a press notice to reporters that said: Appropriate attire for the Barackapolis: Temple of the Obama.
In it, it mentioned various toga styles.
Awesomely awesome.
Enoxo on August 27, 2008 at 6:33 PM
This kind of thing kind of reminds me of those films of Nazi rallies with Hitler and all. Are all the people going to salute Obama ?
StuLongIsland on August 27, 2008 at 6:34 PM
So I guess the networks will be broadcasting his speech with the cameras trained on the adoring(psychotic)throngs and Obama will be down in the corner of the screen in his own little PIP thingy????
What I wouldn’t give for a good old gully washer…..
BigWyo on August 27, 2008 at 6:35 PM
Yeah I wish McCain would put MAVERICK! away so I could back him more completely but his campaign guys are on it.
sven10077 on August 27, 2008 at 6:35 PM
Gaudy Greek temple? I guess the interior decorators ARE Democrats.
Lily on August 27, 2008 at 6:38 PM
There is some truth to that. So clearly this is to remind us of Barry’s humble roots as a State Senator, here.

Is this the meme Obama really wants out there the day before his deification? Worst. Week. Ever. (for Obama)

Laughed Out Loud!
abinitioadinfinitum on August 27, 2008 at 6:41 PM
I would love to see something like the final scene in the old after school movie “The Wave.” That was where a high school teacher did an experiment to show the kids how easily people could be manipulated into being part of a Nazi group.
In the final scene, the teacher has an assembly to introduce the National Leader, which is a picture of Adolph. The kids, completely disgusted, throw down their “Wave” badges and papers and just walk away.
JamesLee on August 27, 2008 at 6:41 PM
As I said before, will Obama also have someone whisper in his ear, “Memento Mori.”
DanStark on August 27, 2008 at 6:41 PM
And I thought ‘Jason and the Argonauts’ was hokey. I wonder if Todd Armstrong will get to announce Obama to the crowd?

Barry,
Please, PLEASE don’t change your mind! Stay true to yourself and stick with the divine oracle theme. The country will be better off if they see you as you really are.

I will admit that I had to read the last word twice, just to be sure.

Never heard of that. But its freakily apropos.

Man, he’s in big trouble. These comments are in-line with reports by Reese Hopkins from Denver. Reese is an African-American, moderate conservative talk show host in Boston who says the internal unguarded talk in Denver is pure disdain for the Obama campaign.

Chuck Schick on August 27, 2008 at 6:57 PM
Now if McCain can just keep from doing anything stupid.
PappaMac on August 27, 2008 at 6:59 PM
I wonder if the temple came because the 80,000 screaming Obama fans at the 50 yard line of an outdoor stadium with fireworks going off were deemed too subtle
Chuck Schick on August 27, 2008 at 7:05 PM
Seeing the columns and Romanesque crap makes me fear he has the California-Armenian vote wrapped up.
leftnomore on August 27, 2008 at 7:07 PM
If the crowd puts up the ‘O’ sign when he is talking you will have your answer and this country will be in deep sh*t.
Old Hippie Vet on August 27, 2008 at 7:07 PM
Not possible.
However, as long as nObama keeps being stupider, we’re okay. If you know spanish, that is.
Quien sabé?
klickink.wordpress.com on August 27, 2008 at 7:07 PM
It’s not the toga that would worry me, Ed.
It would be the laurel wreath on his forehead with that “snob” tilt.
heh.
Lockstein13 on August 27, 2008 at 7:10 PM
Sorry, don’t want to crimp the mirth, but…
I have a bad feeling that Obama will use this as a backdrop to: (i) remind people that Greece was the birthplace of democracy; and (ii) promise that he will restore democracy.
The drive-by media will eat it up. Obama will use it for campaign commercials. Friday morning, people will be saying “Awesome!” I will be losing my breakfast.

RJGatorEsq. on August 27, 2008 at 7:13 PM
It would be cool if the McCain team had a Celebrity III ad all ready to go, and all they need is to drop in a few scenes from the first few minutes (and choice phrases) from Obama’s speech, and then release via web as soon as Obama wraps it up and as his lightning bolts…er, fireworks go off.
David Rasbold on August 27, 2008 at 7:16 PM
RJGator,
He will restore democracy? And all the votes he’s been getting in the election process so far can be attributed to…?

It will be up to Fox to make sure the camera is panned to see the temple itself.
There will be no shots of the temple by the MSM.

Well after the ceremony Obama could then campaign in the Central Park Zeus, the San Diego Zeus, the Denver Zeus, the Los Angeles Zeus, and other Zeus throughout the country, while wearing his Zeus Suit.

Video clip is perfect. Thanks for the laugh…

Obama’s a clown of monumental proportions. The last few weeks are their own parody.
mr.blacksheep on August 27, 2008 at 8:32 PM
They better have dry ice effects for the floor and some smoke machines AND some laser lights. He can bust out of the smoke like a pro wrestler.
I’d watch it.

PLEASE, let him come out in a toga!
PattyJ on August 27, 2008 at 9:01 PM
If that happens, the logical response is to point out that the last major world leader who indulged in similar iconography while making similar promises was, like the Obamessiah, a strong believer in socialism, notably the syndicalist type. He was also famous for making the trains run on time, cavorting with other dictators, ruining his country’s economy, trying to remake the rest of the world to suit his own fantasies, and getting his fellow citizens so disgusted with him in the process that, in the end, they did him in themselves.
Namely, Benito Mussolini.
cheers

Dukakis is looking like a fu*king idiot!
He is giving Barack credit for the 16 month witdrawel & for victory in Iraq. Ok….now I’m offically PISSED!!!!!!! How dare him say that. Barack is to have no credit for anything to do with the military or Iraq. My god are there really people who buy into this shit?!!!!!~!!
Winebabe on August 27, 2008 at 9:44 PM
“Behold his mighty power!”
What Obama really needs is a robe and the Death Star.
He wants to be the Emperor. Lord of the Dark Side.
Everything he’s done has religious overtones to it.
Everything.
He should have been a Baptist minister.
drjohn on August 27, 2008 at 9:48 PM
Yes. Then the sky will open, the deity will descend, awe us with his oratory rhetoric, the skies will open again, and the annointed one will fly away, smiling ever so smugly.
The subjects will be left in a mesmerized gape, with their mouths hanging open, and their pants/panties all wet.
The rest of us will murmur “good lord, save us from this phony nightmare before it’s too late”.
Entelechy on August 27, 2008 at 10:41 PM
If I was there, I’d set up my kool-aid stand with my son and rake in zillions.
And then get us out of there before the first toast.
Yikes. This is going to be like the Orwellian opening ceremony of the Olympics in Biejing.

If it will get him out of here permanently, singing angels can hoist him (and his ego) in their arms and waft their way to heaven.

Am I the only one grateful for Obama?
At first he delivered us from Hillary! Which is no mean feat in the first place.
Now he is delivering us from Obama himself.
Doubly awesome.
Sir Napsalot on August 28, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Now the McCainiacs should be paying close attention, and grabbing every strip of footage they can from this. There should be plenty of material for commercials to keep this image in everyone’s heads right up to election day…
.
Damn I’m getting nervous! Life as we know and enjoy it will cease to exist with Hussein Obama in the White House and a dominating democratic congress. They’ll wreak havoc that’ll take another 100 years to straighten out…
