New Republican PAC ad: Barack Obama is horrible on immigration

From the new conservative group “Our Country Deserves Better.” You know, I hadn’t thought about it, but I guess it would be pretty irresponsible to elect a candidate who pays lip service to border enforcement and pushes bilingualism at the expense of assimilation.
Good thing there’s an alternative, huh?
You’ll be happy to know that your party’s platform this year will not include any statement of opposition to “comprehensive immigration reform.” But then, how could it? Anything else would be racist.
Update: A spokesman for OCDB e-mails:
Hi there HotAir readers and others.
You know, part of the reason we chose to produce an ad on this topic is because we know it is unlikely Senator McCain will chose to do so given his efforts on “comprehensive immigration reform.”
We felt it important that those who believe in secure borders and assimilation and a Melting Pot (instead of an open border/pro-amnesty mindset) should speak up for our beliefs.
And so that is what we chose to do.

Screw the RNC. They are dead to me.
PBoilermaker on August 26, 2008 at 9:15 PM
Heh. I just replied to an RNC e-mail saying that I’d be voting McCain, but because of his push for ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ I wouldn’t be sending a check.
This would be a great issue to hammer Obama on too. Oh well.
BadgerHawk on August 26, 2008 at 9:16 PM
So is McCain…

Our country does deserve better.
Too bad John McCain’s not offering us anything better on this issue.

How? They left the opposition to “comprehensive immigration reform” out of the platform, essentially leaving a status quo.

Thin ice for “our man” on this topic. The key is not letting the democrats get 60 seats in the Senate. We all must do what is necessary to ensure that doens’t happen. If it does, we’re toast.

Nah we take it back slow with mayors, county leadership then states. It’s gonna take 12-20 years to undo the damage that was started back in 88-92 but it can be done.
We, as a party, must reembrace Reagan’s famous “The nine scariest words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’” as our guiding principle.

I live on a nice very middle class street in a very nice section of town. I drove down a block and turned right ,stopped, went a half a block further and looked left. SHOCK and DISMAY.. Some sumbitch has got a brand new mesican flag flying over a Round Rock HS flag.
You know I am thrilled by this great display of love for mesico, while some of my friends still in Afganistan.
Question, if mesico is so damn great a place why in the hell did not this family just stay there. I guess I will offer him a NEW AMERICAN FLAG that has been overseas and see if he will accept it as a gesture of GOOD WILL.

Yes, this is thin ice for McCain but you have a better chance of making your voice heard with him than with Obama.
Obama WILL open the borders wide, at least you have a shot of getting McCain to close them or at least restrict the flow. But hey, you could also wait for Reagan to dig himself out of the grave and come back in 2012, meanwhile fifty million illegals will call our nation “home”.

Ugh. You probably just registered yesterday, didn’t you? Noticed how I never said “I agree with McCain on immigration”. I simply said that it’s very clear that Obama sits to the left of McCain on the issue (and that’s pretty tough to do). If you can’t recognize the fact that when given the simple choice between Obama and McCain (what we have this election) that McCain is the better, more conservative (notice the “more” qualifier in there…I don’t want my comments to be distorted as calling McCain a conservative, something he clearly isn’t on a lot of issues) pick of the two, then yes, you are a moron. I’m sorry, you’re just going to have to live with that fact.

In the 1950s National Review wouldn’t endorse Eisenhower because he wasn’t a conservative. Yet he still saw off over 1 million illegal immigrants.
Flash forward to the present and the NR don’t even have the stones to repudiate McCain if he puts a liberal Democrat on the ticket.

Fletch54 on August 26, 2008 at 9:51 PM
Couldn’t be said any better than that. The two choices are clear and we’ll be forced to deal with whatever we end up choosing. Who would you rather deal with? Whose administration do you think will preside over more illegal immigration into the United States? A more important question, whose administration do you think will do more to stop radical islamofascism? McCain or Obama? If it’s the latter, you will be hurting yourself, your family, your country, and the free world. If it’s the former, we’ll recover. And I think we’ll recover pretty nicely. There is no third choice. There is no “Present”. But, hey, it’s your choice.
malan89 on August 26, 2008 at 9:51 PM
Thank God we are running against a bunch of geniuses who get so shrill at a 527s ad that they open the door for McCain to start bodyblows on the initial hit that made the One shriek like a girl.
sven10077 on August 26, 2008 at 9:54 PM
I doubt that a majority of National Review readers stayed home for that election. However it would be nice if opinion-formers at that magazine and other establishment conservatives placed a greater emphasis on conservative principles.
Bishop said that with McCain at least your voice is heard on some issues but that presupposes that if McCain is elected President Republicans will not be so timid as to mumble quietly or keep their mouths firmly shut.
If someone says they will vote for McCain but will still oppose him on immigration I accept that. If on the other hand they say you had better shut up now or its your fault if Obama gets elected then that is not acceptable.

I guess whoever wins, people should be ready to oppose amnesty with full force and no timidity.
Though its not even amnesty that McCain and Obama seek to inflict.
An amnesty implies allowing someone to escape jail time after they have stopped breaking the law.
So in this case if illegal immigrants agreed to return to their homes countries and in exchange the Federal Government agreed not to prosecute them for their law-breaking then that would be amnesty.
No this is something altogether different and I’m not sure what word would even describe it.

I have a word – REWARDS. The word amnesty, which you carefully defined, has been misused by those opposing McCain’s proposed program of awarding lawbreakers with their ill-gotten goods.
Using McCain’s logic, a judge would award the stolen jewels to the convicted burglar, as long as he pays a $3000 ‘fine’.
fred5678 on August 26, 2008 at 10:16 PM

I’m not calling you a name, I’m telling you what you are. I’m sick of idiots deciding who the President gets to be. Not voting for McCain is tantamount to voting for Obama and I think we owe it, if not to ourselves, to the next generation to not allow that to happen simply because we don’t like the alternative. I didn’t vote for McCain in the primaries. In fact, since I live in Pennsylvania, I didn’t have any say at all. I’m sorry the primary system is broken and we’re stuck with McCain, I truly am. But I didn’t make it up. I’m sure that I’m just as frustrated with it as you are. I disagree with him on many of the issues I’m sure you do as well (CFR, Illegal Immigration, the Bush Tax Cuts, Nanny State Solutions to “Global Warming), but we have to recognize that he is the only alternative to Obama, a man so liberal that he makes a moderate like McCain look like Reagan. In today’s world, we can’t afford to allow a terrorist/terrorist state appeasing liberal like Obama to take the reigns of our country for a whole four years. The threat of radical Islamofascism should be enough to make the decision clear. If it isn’t, I have to do one of two things. Question your intelligence…or your patriotism. The stakes are too high.
‘71, but nice try at the condescension. I’m sure it made you feel much better about yourself.
Ugh again. It’s great that you’ve registered and are commenting on posts. I’m thrilled that new folks are being added. But you’ve called me a “moderate” and stated that McCain was “my boy”, when it would be clear to anybody who has been here for more than a day that neither can be farther from the truth. Please, learn a little more about what you’re commenting on before you resort to these kinds of attacks.

I watched some doc on NatGeo a few weeks ago.I believe that the going rate was $8000/person paid by Mexicans to smugglers to get them across the border. $3000 is WAY on the low side for such a stupid idea in the 1st place.
The border wall and enforcement would pay for itself if proper fees were collected for immigrants that covered wall, enforcement, infrastructure, and all other costs to related, that are usually confiscated from US citizens.
A fee to cover all costs and more should also apply to any immigrant unless proven to contribute on a higher level.

It’s clear that you can’t be persuaded and will be a part of the group of people helping Barack Obama take office come January. Anybody thinking clearly and rationally would not say that “McCain is marginally less liberal than Obama”. It simply isn’t true. You and MB4 can go back to living in your little world where illegal immigration is the only issue to vote on. A world where radical Islam does not exist and isn’t a threat to the United States. A world where the threat of Barack Obama turning our great country into a de facto socialist state doesn’t seem to matter. My best guess is that you’re some sort of species of PaulNut, but I can’t be sure. Whatever. It was a Republican controlled congress that passed legislation to build a 700 mile fence. It was the Republicans in congress that led the charge to defeat Comprehensive Imigration Reform.
