Democratic convention, night two: Special, special lady to pretend she gives a rip about electing Barack Obama; Update: Hillary video added

We’re opening the thread now but things won’t start hopping for another hour. Mark Warner goes on after 9 p.m. ET followed by America’s most fabulously powerful victim of sexism phoning in her good-soldier routine around 10:15. Bob Casey will speak a few minutes before Warner and doubtless will be tasked with pandering to pro-life voters, so tune in for that as an intro to nominating a guy on Thursday who couldn’t bring himself to vote for protecting fetuses born alive during abortions. Warner’s speech could be fun too, as he was enlisted for the keynote for his bipartisan appeal and is now being badgered to attack by dopey Democrats convinced that no matter how hard they are on McCain, it’s not hard enough.
Obama-NBC reported a little while ago that The One has seen Hillary’s speech and is “very pleased” with it, which should come as good news to all those fundraisers of hers who aren’t lifting a finger to help him. Quote:
More broadly, a consensus appears to have emerged among many major Clinton donors that the Obama campaign did not do enough to enlist their support, according to interviews with more than a half-dozen Clinton fundraisers.
“I’ve had more contact from the McCain campaign since the nomination than from the Obama campaign,” said Calvin Fayard, a New Orleans lawyer, major Clinton fund-raiser and longtime Democratic donor who is not in Denver this week.
Mr. Fayard said he is now considering supporting Senator John McCain, the presumed Republican nominee, citing what he perceived as Mr. Obama’s inexperience.
Even sweeter than Hillary Happy Hour! If you missed McCain’s PUMA pander on Leno last night, enjoy that while you wait. Ed and I will be liveblogging, with video to follow of the inevitable “I do not approve that message” joke unless I simply can’t bear to watch it a second time during editing. Exit question: Is this the right’s last dance with our bete noire? I told a friend the other night that conservative America is totally co-dependent with the Clintons at this point: Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em. Maybe she’ll be back in 2012 or 2016 — or maybe she’ll up and quit the Senate and run for feminist Pope. Tonight could be the end. I miss her already. Already.
Update: Here’s the video of the latest episode in this contemptible soap opera, in which one all-star fraud defends another. I didn’t even watch.

Another thing that struck me, what adoption agency is going to give two kids to a single mom with no insurance?
Besides, kids are covered.

I’m about 30 minutes behind, watching on TiVo buffer. Did Chelsea Clinton basically declare her intention to go into politics during the intro video narration? She said something about each generation getting stronger, standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before, going farther, blah blah blah. There was a picture of Hill’s mom, Hill, and Chelsea while she said it. It made me think she was saying she’d finish the job her mom started if Hillary’s ambitions end here.

CNN is interviewing a Clinton delegate who is crying and saying that that speech was presidential speech and that she will vote as a delegate for Clinton. She said that experience speaks to her and BO has not connected. This is not what CNN thought they were going to get. It is hilarious…

BILL’S MISSING OUT ON OBAMA’S SPEECH. OLBERMANN IS ABOUT TO FIRE JOE SCARBOROUGH. THE PROTESTORS ARE BEING GASED, AND ORANGE SUITS ARE BACK IN STYLE.

Yes….I am a California wine drinker. I live in Sacramento and am surrounded by wonderful wineries. The wineries in El Dorado and Amador Counties are fantastic. Lots of Zins, Cabs and Barberas. Lodi also has wineries that rock. One of my favorite wineries is in Lodi. It is called St. Amant. Their Zins, Tempranillo and Port is outstanding. They also have a blend called Tres Cacos. Double YUM! Also, Lodi is the home of 7 Deadly Zins.
Winebabe on August 26, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Yup. That was the beauty of Reagan picking Bush Sr as VP when he did. If it’s that close and you are opposites to the person who nearly beat you. . . pick them and you will sweep the nation.

P.S. Why people don’t get that, I’ll never be able to tell.

I think she delivered the speech of her life. Hopefully it will stir the pot and we’ll have an ‘interesting’ floor vote.

Y314K on August 26, 2008 at 11:36 PM
funky chicken, indeed. I agree with you. She can’t afford to be VP since she has to run in 2012. Your scenario is very, very likely. Why should she help a punk who got in front of the line, with zero experience, and when it was her time?

Olbermann and Matthews finished wetting themselves at the end of Hillary’s speech – “don’t know what more she could have done”, they said.

Hillary Clinton’s Proud American affirmation must have really stung Michelle.

Indeed, but funky chicken is on to something. I’m more and more convinced that she said that she didn’t want it “no ways”. Why should she help him. The punk got in her way, at her time in history.

Eh, they won’t have to do much….Barry’s capable of doing that all by himself, as long as McCain doesn’t pick Lieberman or Huckster for veep.

funky chicken on August 26, 2008 at 11:45 PM

Lake of the Pines is georgeous! Rethink your move. If you are ever going to buy in CA do it as soon as possible. The worst of the moonbats are from San Fran south. N. CA is different. Nevada County is just wonderful. Lake of the Pnes is close to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Lake Tahoe is close by as well. Now Tahoe is truly God’s Country! There are wineries in Nevada County as well.
There are some peaceniks in Nevada City, but for the most part they are harmless.
Winebabe on August 26, 2008 at 11:52 PM
If you read Axelrod’s statement a couple of days ago, he said that Obama didn’t talk to anybody about VP and issues as much as he talked with Hillary back in June. All the leaks and statements over the past two months haven’t changed my mind. Hillary turned Obama down. And after the way she was treated, and her supporters were treated by the Obama campaign, GOOD FOR HER.
funky chicken on August 26, 2008 at 11:53 PM
He’ll never get the nomination again. Nixon was the last one to do that. You remember how that turned out?

You can get second in the primary (ala McCain in 2000), just not the general election.
thecountofincognito on August 27, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Interesting tidbit.
4 of the top 5 richest members of Congress are Democrats.
1 Herb Kohl (D-Wis) $219,098,029 2 Jane Harman (D-Calif) $168,651,649 3 John Kerry (D-Mass) $165,741,511 4 Darrell Issa (R-Calif) $135,862,098 5 Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa) $78,150,023
Nancy Pelosi has a higher net worth than John McCain and she is all over TV talking about how he can’t be in touch with the people because of number of dollars in his bank accounts.

“IT SHOULD’VE BEEN ME”
“oh and vote for obama”
“I’M THE CHOSEN ONE”
“And by the way, vote for obama”
“THIS IS MY CONVENTION”
“Oh and did I mention vote for obama?”

My nephew has autism. Can someone please check on the following person mentioned in Hillary’s speech? How does a single mom adopt TWO autistic children? Supposedly, Hillary met this person while campaigning in Iowa. My sister has doubts on this story:
“I will always remember the single mom who had adopted two kids with autism, didn’t have health insurance and discovered she had cancer. But she greeted me with her bald head painted with my name on it and asked me to fight for health care.”

For anyone who thinks that Shrillary even tried to endorse BHO, you need to pay attention to the important line (paraphrased from memory):
Barack knows that change must come from the bottom-up, not from the top-down.
This is like arguing angels dancing on the head of a pin (the change being such a joke concept) but BHO has been running on a top-down change a platform specifically, with BHO at the top, of course … changing down …

Third and below in the Big One means you can run again, as Ralph Nader and Ross Perot have done personally.
Unfortunately, it also means you have to run for a 3rd or fringe party, and your position in the field gives you no chance whatsoever of winning. ;-) . Which raises the question: Can you run in the Big One again because you came in 3rd last time, or because you represent a party that’s out to lunch and doesn’t have the good sense to keep you from running again? ;-)

Who can’t see through the fake faces of Hillary? Smiling and not meaning it till her face pratically splits down the middle. Oh and colors? She’s a color-wearer to get various points across. The whole flourescent orange color is one of those “listen to me” colors.
The body langauge says it all to me though. Mrs. Obama’s body language suggests she wanted to knock Hillary the hell of that stage, while yet Hillary’s delivery tries to talk a point in the affirmative as she shakes her head in the negative. Whats the deal with that? Again her face strain just shows she’s not happy and doesn’t mean what she’s saying.
Well, the vomit certainly came up to the back of my throat through this one. I coudn’t bear to watch it all without the Pepto handy.

Some things my wife and I picked up on that I haven’t seen posted anywhere were the subtle (to some) swipes at Obama in Hillary’s speech.
4-5 references to how “Proud” Hillary is.
The laundry list of foreign countries (Russia, Iran, Iraq, Saudis, China) underscoring the lack of foreign policy.
That opening video with ALL those Hillary for President signs
The constant references to “keep going, don’t quit” wasn’t for Obama, it was for her “underground” supporters.
This is the Clintons, I’m sure more swipes can be found if someone had the stomach to rewatch the speech.
redw0lf24 on August 27, 2008 at 7:16 AM
Well tonight was for the second banana. The opening showed a delegate unkowingly holding a “Hillary” poster upside down. Typical ideologist blindly following a marxist to rid themselves of white guilt.
