Democratic convention, night two: Special, special lady to pretend she gives a rip about electing Barack Obama; Update: Hillary video added

We’re opening the thread now but things won’t start hopping for another hour. Mark Warner goes on after 9 p.m. ET followed by America’s most fabulously powerful victim of sexism phoning in her good-soldier routine around 10:15. Bob Casey will speak a few minutes before Warner and doubtless will be tasked with pandering to pro-life voters, so tune in for that as an intro to nominating a guy on Thursday who couldn’t bring himself to vote for protecting fetuses born alive during abortions. Warner’s speech could be fun too, as he was enlisted for the keynote for his bipartisan appeal and is now being badgered to attack by dopey Democrats convinced that no matter how hard they are on McCain, it’s not hard enough.
Obama-NBC reported a little while ago that The One has seen Hillary’s speech and is “very pleased” with it, which should come as good news to all those fundraisers of hers who aren’t lifting a finger to help him. Quote:
More broadly, a consensus appears to have emerged among many major Clinton donors that the Obama campaign did not do enough to enlist their support, according to interviews with more than a half-dozen Clinton fundraisers.
“I’ve had more contact from the McCain campaign since the nomination than from the Obama campaign,” said Calvin Fayard, a New Orleans lawyer, major Clinton fund-raiser and longtime Democratic donor who is not in Denver this week.
Mr. Fayard said he is now considering supporting Senator John McCain, the presumed Republican nominee, citing what he perceived as Mr. Obama’s inexperience.
Even sweeter than Hillary Happy Hour! If you missed McCain’s PUMA pander on Leno last night, enjoy that while you wait. Ed and I will be liveblogging, with video to follow of the inevitable “I do not approve that message” joke unless I simply can’t bear to watch it a second time during editing. Exit question: Is this the right’s last dance with our bete noire? I told a friend the other night that conservative America is totally co-dependent with the Clintons at this point: Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em. Maybe she’ll be back in 2012 or 2016 — or maybe she’ll up and quit the Senate and run for feminist Pope. Tonight could be the end. I miss her already. Already.
Update: Here’s the video of the latest episode in this contemptible soap opera, in which one all-star fraud defends another. I didn’t even watch.

It’ll be a little rowdy in here for awhile. Don’t take everything people say too seriously. Hillary has gained some respect here for her tenacity over the last months, and would be a much stronger candidate for the donks. The DNC gamed you guys.

Kristol is right. She never did say anything personal about Obama.
Connie on August 26, 2008 at 11:11 PM
She needs to learn to vary her tone and cadence to make her emphasis on key points more distinct. Overall a decent speech, but nothing memorable or nothing to make delegates think they made a bad choice.
However there was nothing there that would change a uncomitted voter or a devote PUMA. Nothing there that anyone will remember this weekend.

DfDeportation on August 26, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Yes. And I don’t know if anyone else will mention this on the networks, but even when she mentioned the beginning of the civil rights movement, she placed the genesis of that movement in the act of a WOMAN, Harriet Tubman.

My wife kept falling alseep, I had to wake her up to share in my pain.
That was painful.
Also, notice how the crowd didn’t boo and hiss at every mention of McCain? She mentioned him a few times, before she got to the part where they were obviously supposed to boo.
I thought that was a bit strange.

Hell yes she is. Hillary knows that in many ways the VP plays second fiddle to the First Lady. Would you ever consider putting yourself in that position vis a vis Michelle Obama?
I’m still convinced Hillary turned Barry down, and MO knows it may cost her husband the White House.

The FOX panel is back on track. They deciphered the speech well and constructively.
This speech is fluff, and not a confidence booster for the democrat candidate.
All she says is vote Obama, but nothing much. Just the regular misguided democrat platforms.

A few thoughts
1. Notice that when the opening video said, “Knocked out but not out,” it showed a camera shot looking up at a hovering Obama
2. Bill mouthed “I love you” When she came out. He actually looked like he did. Although he said it so many times, it may have been to make sure a camera caught it.
3. Proud this, Proud that, “Proud American” That’s a shot at Michelle O
4. No way No how No McCain, ummm puts NOBama in mind hehe
5. Never give in, never give up. Hmmm who’s that a message too?
6. Bringing up Georgia puts doubts in Obama and is a boost to McCain
7. Were you in it for me or for (insert anecdote) Does a real push to unity, but it’s nice and in the middle where people forget. People generally remember the first and last thing you tell them and nothing in between
8. “We need a Democrat” again speaks to unity and again is in the center
9. Where she talks about Obama signing a Health Care Plan into law and her holding her hand on her chest. I guarantee you that’s what Obama and the DNC promised her. It will be her bill.
10. Keep going, never quitting. Yeah back to telling her supporters to keep up the fight.
