Dean: Republicans are like … Milosevic

Howard Dean, keeping the hate alive in Denver:

You see, the Republicans are very, very good at dividing people. You know, they’re always … you gotta be mad because this group is against that and that group doesn’t get that. That’s terrible for the country, but it’s a time-honored way to win elections, and people use it in all kinds of different countries … Slobodan Milosevic used it in Yugoslavia!

Howard Dean in January:

“I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for…”

Howard Dean in February:

“This is a struggle between good and evil and we’re the good.”

Now, after the identity-politics meltdown that the entire nation witnessed in the Democratic primaries this cycle, and with Dean’s own quotes as context, which party seems more obsessed with groupthink — Democrats or Republicans?  Which party set factions against each other more in 2008, all the way to the convention — Democrats or Republicans?  Which candidate launched multiple, unfounded smears of racism — Barack Obama or John McCain?

Poor Howard Dean.  In the end, all he has is hate.

He doesn’t even realize that what he is “saying” is not what he is saying — take a hard look at yourself and your party — some serious cognitive dissonance there, Howie.

Great thread.

Dean-o
Is full of bean-o

I wonder if Kirsten Powers agrees with Howard Dean.

wise_man on August 26, 2008 at 12:38 PM

Well, she agrees with him that sliming Cindy McCain is a good idea, so my guess is YES.

Oh yeah. Dems would never set groups against one another based on race or socioeconomic status or culture or …. heeeeey….

TheUnrepentantGeek on August 26, 2008 at 2:02 PM

I’d apologize, on behalf of my adopted state, for having inflicted him on the nation at large, but frankly, I was just as happy to get him out of our statehouse.

If for no other reason than that the very MOMENT the DNC made him its national chairman, my lifelong-Dem husband came over to the dark side switched alliances and became a Republican.

Stefka on August 26, 2008 at 2:06 PM

Oh, and Howard? Here’s the democrats who will cheer louder than I when you lose your job in November:

Howlin’ Mad Dean changed the lyrics to the Beatles’ song. It now reads All You Need Is HATE!

What a hater. Hey Howie, isn’t one of your slogans “Hate is not a family value”???? What a doofus.

Republicans are like … Milosevic

No, Milosevic had a spine. The republicans are still missing theirs.

Poor Howard Dean. Up until In the end, all he has is hate.

There, Ed. Fixed that for ya’. No need to thank me. Just bein’ neighborly. After the end, Howie will receive something in addition to his hate. I’ll let collie tell you about it.

My collie says:

Speaking of neighborly, my three-headed friend Kerberos is purported to be there at the gates of Hell to welcome large numbers of the Deaniacs. Those three heads work together to create a great voice impression of Jim Neighbors saying, “Surprise, surprise, surprise.”

I sincerely hope the driver of the bus that will run Howie over has a strong family to lean on. The celebrations will wear him out.

You’re dead on sir. The Democrats M.O. is fearmongering; on the economy, the decline of America, on our place in the world as well as the more mundane points of social justice and equality of outcome.

The number one tactic in their playbook is divide and conquer; which dovetails nicely with their dedication to identity politics and tribalism…

Well this year, their chickens are coming home…TO ROOST

RocketmanBob on August 26, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Hitler breathed oxygen and so does Howard Dean, thus Dean is a Nazi. Margaret Sanger was a racist, like virtually everyone else was in 1920, and therefore family planning and abortion are racist.

Logic is a wonderful thing.

Dean is only talking what he knows best: Democrat strategy, motivation, and attitude. He assumes that Republicans politically are just like him and his party. Obama and the Dems have been doing this throughout the campaign — blaming Republicans for how the Democrats act, and ‘predicting’ what the Republicans will do. In the past this has been done far more subtly — with Dean and Obama in charge it has become so obvious that I believe the average American is seeing through this and one by one Obama’s supporters are moving away.

jerseyman on August 26, 2008 at 2:59 PM

Hey Ed, just a quick tip, I believe those older Dean quotes are from a couple of years ago. It doesn’t change the point, but for accuracy purposes, you may want to clarify that they didn’t happen this January/February. He’s had a string of comments like these ever since dropping out of the race in 2004 though.

Note to DNC:

Use Kevlar for the butterfly nets and Screamin’ Dean will chew through them less quickly.

thuja on August 26, 2008 at 2:55 PM

Not necesarily - but Margaret Sanger specifically wanted to limit the breeding of the lesser races and so started Planned Parenthood. She has succeeded as the vast majority of abortions have been performed on African Americans, while the majority of Planned Parenthood clinics are located in minority/African American neighborhoods. Facts can be very telling.

jerseyman on August 26, 2008 at 3:06 PM

“This is a struggle between good and evil and we’re the good.”

Funny, he stole that line from Hitler. Or do I have that backwards?

J.J. Sefton on August 26, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Dean is hate incarnate.

He’s the epitome of the DNC… angry, bitter, and self-hating.. like Hitler.

madmonkphotog on August 26, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Howard Dean is an example of what happens to the brain when you smoke marihuana.

pukara61 on August 26, 2008 at 3:19 PM

Poor Howard Dean. In the end, all he has is hate.

No. All he has is classic psychological projection.

Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reed, Dean.. ARGHHHHHHHHHH

reshas1 on August 26, 2008 at 4:12 PM

this guy is just one great big (howling) turd.
i think dems demonize republicans in desperation. anything that will shift them into position for public approval. thing is, it seems they really believe their stance… until they don’t. ha

I hear it sleeps at the foot of his bed and that he has to let it out at least 3 times a day….

And this man is a doctor for crying outloud!

Good thing about it is I showed my kid the loons trying to levitate the mint and assualting Michelle - Life long Republican now!

dhunter on August 26, 2008 at 5:14 PM

Who would have thunk it in the last few years the National Enquirer has become THE paper to trust and James Carville has become one of the most reasonable Dimwits! Hope and Change? Nope!

Howard Dean: A boil on the ass of society. (someone please lance it…)

D2Boston on August 26, 2008 at 5:19 PM

I think Howard Dean has been a disaster for the Democrats. They desperately need some new leadership.

Terrye on August 26, 2008 at 5:38 PM

I thought Dean wanted to get the votes of all those people with guns and Confederate flags in their pickup trucks. Comparing them to Milosevic could get them a little PO’d. Now what did Barry O say about bringing a mouth to a gunfight?

Steve Z on August 26, 2008 at 5:40 PM

Dean is not merely a boil, but an oozing carbuncle screaming for excision and a massive debriding with conservative unguent

paulsmos on August 26, 2008 at 5:47 PM

How-weird Dean lacks common sense and common decency. Has he ever listened to himself?

Perhaps when he was ski-bumming out West during the Viet Nam era he collided with a few too many trees.

onlineanalyst on August 26, 2008 at 7:11 PM

Howard Dean: A hateful cretin who fancies himself a genius.

ZK on August 26, 2008 at 8:30 PM

If the Democrats had not chosen this mental case to head up the Democratic National Party, they may have had a chance to get themselves out of this state of moral bankruptcy but they are so far gone that they will need a miracle to pull them out of this free fall.

Nastaran on August 26, 2008 at 8:44 PM

Doctor (Dean) - Heal thyself!

J.J. Sefton on August 26, 2008 at 9:00 PM

Dean: Republicans are like … Milosevic

“I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for…”

Hey Howeirdo you silly butt-hole, the feeling’s mutual.

BTW weirdo, the word’s out on the street, that the Democrats in Denver, want to jettison your worthless rump, ASAP. Pink slip time! You’re going to have to go back to earning a real living.

byteshredder on August 27, 2008 at 2:12 AM

Poor Howard Dean. In the end, all he has is hate.

maybe that’s the bitter clinger that Obama was talking about.

Chakra Hammer on August 27, 2008 at 5:35 AM

Cut this idiot a break. He’s literally insane, and is the gift that keeps giving over and over and over to the Republican party. I hope he’s chairman for the next 5 presidential elections….Yeeeeaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!

adamsmith on August 27, 2008 at 10:12 AM

Remember when Dr. “Demento” Dean said Republicans always use the race card, and dems never do.

Of course he forgot about the Clintons in SC and and BHO just last week.

Or his words: “I still want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks.”

Look at all the diversity in the Democratic Party!

CinC on August 27, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Ed, both of Dean’s ‘unity’ quotes can be found in this Meet the Press transcript — from 2005:

MR. RUSSERT: Let me talk about some of the things you have said about the Republicans. Here’s Howard Dean in January: “I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for…”

Howard Dean in February: “This is a struggle between good and evil and we’re the good?”

Do you really hate Republicans? Do you consider them evil?

DR. DEAN: I don’t — well, actually that was a little out of context. But I don’t hate Republicans as individuals. But I hate what the Republicans are doing to this country. I really do.
