Unity like you can’t believe: Hillary advisers skipping The One’s speech

Want to know how well the Unity Fest has worked? So far, the first achievement of Democratic Brotherhood Week is that some siblings have decided they have better events to attend. Senior advisers to Hillary Clinton will not attend Barack Obama’s splashy acceptance speech at Invesco Field on Thursday, choosing to leave the convention when Hillary does:
A number of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s top advisers will not be staying in Denver long enough to hear Barack Obama accept the nomination for president, according to sources familiar with their schedules.
Clinton will deliver her speech Tuesday night. She will hold a private meeting with her top financial supporters Wednesday at noon, and will thank her delegates at an event that afternoon. Former president Bill Clinton will speak that night. Several of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are then planning to leave town. Among them, Terry McAuliffe, Clinton’s campaign chairman, and longtime supporters Steve Rattner and Maureen White. Another of Clinton’s top New York fundraisers, Alan Patricof, did not make the trip to Denver.
Earlier today, Hillary and Obama put out a joint press release accusing reporters of not knowing the facts when they wrote about continuing and deepening tensions between the Obama and Clinton camps. Perhaps, but their show of unity doesn’t quite mesh with advisers — and fundraisers — bailing out of the historic lovefest at Invesco. What other event could possibly take precedence over Obama’s acceptance speech? Washing their hair?
Their words say, “Unity”, but their actions say “split”.

One of two things:
1) Clitnon plays good cop
2) Clinton plays bad cop
I think her people are way too ramped up to let Hilly go half-hearted in either direction.

My guess is that whoever does still want to go and doesn’t have tickets, should just show up and they’ll get in for free.

Hey, us girls gotta get our hair done some time. Obama probably tried to charge them 10 grand for their tickets or something.

Palin has executive experience, she’s an ACTUAL reformer, she’s a conservative, and she’s someone regular Americans can relate to. McCain doesn’t need any more gravitas or gray hairs.

Upon announcing her, Maverick should diffuse the experience argument by acknowledging her short term in office but say that the time is coming to pass the baton to a new generation of conservative leaders and serving as VP will give her the experience to take the reins in eight years.

As I posted earlier today at the bottom of a long string of comments, it’s all in the timing.
Hillary needs to watch the dance, pay attention to the spin, read the mojo moves, and time her answer perfectly for maximum impact.

Do not pick Palin. To understand why, you have to understand female psychology.
Right now, female supporters of Hillary feel abandoned, the victims of misogyny. They were so close to their ultimate goal: getting a woman elected as President. Then Hillary lost by the slimmest of margins. Still there was hope of reaching their #2 goal: getting a woman elected as Vice-President. Now Obama has chosen another man to be Vice-President.
This is a time of vulnerability and fright for the female Hillary supporter. Like a mama bear backed into a cave with her cubs, she is ready to fight savagely against the One who has hurt her.
If McCain nominates a woman, the female voter will feel a mixture of relief and sadness. Sure, a woman could be elected, but it was not the one that she was fighting for all along. Great angst and mixed feelings then result in turbulence. The final result will be confusion, rage, sadness, and grief, with women splitting their votes 48/48/2 Obama/McCain/other.
The net result of picking Palin would be no gender gap advantage for McCain.
Now let’s say McCain picks Romney. The female voter will look around and realize that after they came that close, after all that hard work, there will be no woman elected as President or Vice-President. The result will be pure rage. This rage will be directed at the one who ruined the hopes and dreams of women everywhere: the One, Obama. He will be blamed for beating Hillary in the primaries, and then not picking her as his VP. He will be the target of their rage, and McCain will stand to benefit more than if he picked Palin.
This is female psychology at work. McCain will get nothing out of the Palin pick. Palin has only been governor for a year and a half, and before that she was mayor of a small town. She’s not national ticket material.
McCain/Romney.
indythinker on August 25, 2008 at 3:41 PM
A half empty stadium for the one? not likely. Now we know why all of Denvers homeless were getting haircuts. perhaps they will also train them to do the new Goatse Obama salute as well….
merryprankster23 on August 25, 2008 at 3:42 PM
BTW, are there any female Hot Air commenters who want McCain to pick Palin, or is this a male Hot Air phenomenon?
indythinker on August 25, 2008 at 3:42 PM
I am sure they decided that once Biden was named VP there wouldn’t be any room left at the stadium, what with the two egos that will be on stage and all – They might as well leave town before it gets too crowded. Plus, it gives them the jump on planning time for Hill’s next run at the White House.
InTheBellyoftheBeast on August 25, 2008 at 3:43 PM
Palin might make a great VP in time but not this year she isn’t known well enough outside of Alaska to be effective, not knockin her just saying if it wasn’t for here and LGF I wouldn’t know who she is,so give her time to get known around the country and let her lose in 4 yrs. besides the polls show if McCain picked a woman VP it wouldn’t help his chances it would hurt them.He needs to pick a pro-life VP with strong economics background to shore up his admitted lack in that area sorry but just MHO

As Barack Obama climbed the steps to speak at the DNC convention at Mile High stadium in Denver a multiple of tornadoes suddenly erupted sending the crowds of Obama faithful running for cover. Obama himself was filmed cowering under the main speakers stand weeping as he cried out for his white grandmother as he wet himself and…well…filled his pants. There was a report of an “un-godly cackle” that proceeded the storms along with pink clad women flying through the air on “brooms”. This, however, was quickly dismissed by Nancy Pelosi as something that “crazy Catholics” are spreading.
MSNBC has hailed Obama’s courage in the face of this onslaught as proof of his ability to lead America in a new direction.

I’m already trending McCain based on how the DNC dealt with my Primary and the stupid Biden pick. But Palin on the ticket would make me actively campaign Republican.

Indythinker is correct. Let female ire contine to be directed at The One. The One isn’t going to get much of a bounce out of the convention and Hilldog’s supporters will just continue to say “we told you so”. Palin needs time and this cycle will get her name out there nationally. Look for her to be widely consulted and visible in the coming years re the energy debate.

I do believe that if Sarah Palin is chosen to be the Veep then turn out the lights the party is over and McCain is the next president.
There are more women registered voters then men. Women out vote men and they are very independent in their voting. However, over the years they have been solidifying behind the Democrats. The Democrats have twice the number of women elected then what Republicans have.
Palin is pro-life. She knows the energy issues better then anyone else. Her honesty and credibility are legend. She is wealthy also. She was elected as Governor to bring “change” (I am really getting to hate that word). Unlike so many politicians she has to date delivered on that promise.
She is very attractive, she is articulate, and she can and will fight.
The knock will be lack of experience and the answer is simple she has more executive experience then Joe Biden and Barack Obama combined. Actually she will have more management experience then the other three combined.
At some time the Republicans will have to address the gender gap that they suffer from, either that or get used to being a minority party, forever.
