Panic: Obama and Hillary work to cut off roll call vote before things turn embarrassing

What was it I was saying earlier about her phony “lift every voice” enfranchisement rhetoric? Oh well. Nothing says unity and catharsis like a vote that has to be suspended halfway through lest the margin of victory not turn out the way The One has foreordained. Chicago politics fever — catch it!

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are working on a deal to give her some votes in the roll call for the Democratic presidential nomination, but quickly end the divided balloting in unanimous consent for Obama.

Democratic officials involved in the negotiations said Monday the idea is that at the start of the state-by-state vote for the presidential nomination Wednesday night, delegates would cast their votes for Clinton or Obama.

But the voting would be cut off after a couple of states, the officials said, perhaps ending with New York, when Clinton herself would call for unanimous backing for Obama from the convention floor. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity while the deal was being finalized.

This is Hillary’s dream come true, isn’t it? She gets to play the good soldier, ostensibly, even while her fanatic supporters strike fear in the hearts of Team Barry. But then, how good a soldier are you if you’re oh so casually reminding reporters that you got the same number of votes as the nominee did and politely declining to interfere with your delegates’ very “personal decision” by asking them to vote for the other guy? Be sure to follow that last link, too, and note the enthusiasm of the New York delegation when asked whether they’re ready to elect a president. Exit quotation: “I’m thoroughly disgusted with the Democratic Party… I believe the real magic of Barack Obama was his ability to turn lifelong Democrats like us into McCain supporters overnight.”

Maybe to help during natural disasters, like during Katrina when the helicopters were lifting people off of rooftops or in California when they were helping to put out wildfires, or in the midwest when floods hit and they help to fill sandbags and exacuate people.. or when the Navy bring Aid to places when tsunami’s hit.. quit being a troll.

Hillary, in trying to look good (if that’s what she’s trying to do) is looking odd instead.

After all that Americans have been through for Hillary, and she’s throwing in the towel to sop up the blood bath that need not have been so damned politically bloody except that she willed it so.

If she wanted to press the Super Delegate support, she should never have formally resigned her campaign, but temporarily suspend it.

If she wanted her supporters to be “counted” as existing democrat votes, she should not double cross the voters in an act of “contrition” to BarriO, stopping the roll call.

Hannity keeps stressing how Hollywood has organized the DNC Convention to the teeth. Remembering “Excalibur”, drawing the sword from the stone, I can see Caroline Kennedy projecting that Camelot illusion for their squirrelly democrat POTUS coronation of BarriO.

Instead of visions of sugar plums, who else senses nightmares from Denver?

I think the suspension of voting to nominate by acclaimation will be a major mistake, no matter which candidates or DNC members support it. If this happens, we will know that the Marxists have taken over in spirit. This is the last chance for the Democrats to really behave like Democratic Americans. In my opinion, party unity is not more important than an honest vote counting. The party in congress has been taking all actions to prevent real votes, but do things by consent. That is the same thing they want to do in their convention. Remember, these are the same leftist partisans that have been pushing the “not-elected Bush” agenda for eight years and torturing us with the every vote counts political misdirection. What they want to do is no different than Hugo Chavez, Allenda, or Ortega. They get in power and there is no more need for votes. And, you don’t really thing the MSM will stand up for us, do you, if this happens?

That would be way more than a couple of states before they get to New York, since the roll call is in alphabetical order.

From the rule book:

7. Roll Call for Presidential Candidate:
a. After nominations for presidential candidates have closed, the Convention shall
proceed to a roll call vote by states on the selection of the presidential candidate.
The roll call voting shall follow the alphabetical order of the states with the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and the territories treated as states for the
purpose of the alphabetical roll call.
b. A majority vote of the Convention’s delegates shall be required to nominate the
presidential candidate.
c. Delegates may vote for the candidate of their choice whether or not the name of
such candidate was placed in nomination. Any vote cast other than a vote for a
presidential candidate meeting the requirements of Article VI of this Call and
Rule 12.K. of the 2008 Delegate Selection Rules shall be considered a vote for
“Present.”
d. Balloting will continue until a nominee is selected. The nominee shall become
the candidate of the Democratic Party of the United States for the Office of
President upon the conclusion of his or her acceptance speech.

Furthermore:

VIII. PROCEDURAL RULES OF THE 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

3. Roll Call Votes:
a. Voting shall be by voice vote or, when prescribed by these rules, by roll call vote.
The roll call voting shall follow the order as specified in Article VIII.C.7.a. A roll
call vote shall also be had if the Chair is in doubt or upon demand of any delegate
supported by twenty percent (20%) of the Convention’s delegates as evidenced
by one of the following methods:
(1) A petition submitted to the Chair indicating support of the
demand by delegations which comprise not less than twenty
percent (20%) of the Convention’s delegates. In the case of the
petition in support of a demand for a roll call vote, a delegation
shall be taken to support the demand if a majority of its delegates
have signed a petition to do so.
(2) By the rising in support of the demand by not less than twenty
percent (20%) of the delegates present.

So it seems to me that if 20% of the delegates want every vote to be counted, they will be counted. At least until one candidate has tallied the required total to win the thing.

Call off the balloting after New York? Hmmm, New York comes after Florida and Michigan in the alphabet. If ALL the Florida delegates vote as pledged in the primary, and the Michigan delegates are 60% Hillary and 40% “Present” (or Uncommitted), the New York delegates will put Hillary way ahead. Add on Ohio and Pennsylvania (a little later in the alphabet) and things start looking scary for Barry O.

Along about then, Hillary says to David Axelrod, “You know that deal we made about cutting off the balloting? How about we continue through Wyoming, and then your guy could be MY Veep?”

Yeah, he showed lack of confidence by trying to avoid a roll call vote, then seemed weak by agreeing to it, ending up with the worst of both worlds. But it was some of his supporters, like Donna Brazile, saying things that made it clear what was happening.

And now they’re negotiating issues supposedly settled.

I think that the main target of the remarks leaked in the article would be in the immediate situation – and in the immediate situation I see an anti-HRC target of demoralizing some HRC activists.

I understand the point about the Greater Socialists (D) being divided and how that helps the Lesser Socialists (R), but the whole ordeal is really hard to stomach. Maybe it is because I remember the 90s and just want the Clintonistas and their ilk to fade away as soon as possible. If there was some kind of major policy dispute, if Obama said that Bill had illegitimate black babies in South Carolina, or something like that I’d understand, but all this is supposedly about is feelings. Paul Tsongas and Jerry Brown did nothing like this. Frankly I have a hard time understanding how murderers like the Clinton who killed people at Waco without batting an eye and who probably offed Vince Foster could have such thin skins. A recent report from the Pentagon stated that only about 6000 U.S. combat troops ready for action were actually based in America, Smitty….the rest are in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, etc.

In other words, the U.S. military is in no position to stop China, Russia or Hugo Chavez from invading us…if they wanted to.

and

c.) our pork barrel aka “earmark” spending (can I get an oink oink?)

The press also thought if they didnt mention the Edwards affair no one would notice thus handing a plum to the Clinton side. The so-called secret could be saved until just before the election, taking Edwards out with no time for rehabilitation. And Silky could talk his way out of this if he had time. Bill Clinton pulled it off.

The mildly humorous part is Edwards staffers were left hanging without a shed of prestige on convention day, guaranteeing they would never regroup to help Edwards
