Huckabee: Romney should have ignored the Massachusetts Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage

posted at 7:36 pm on August 25, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

It comes at 30:45, right after he finishes wondering what the difference is between men marrying men and people marrying animals. (Er, consent?) This plays well with the base and no doubt he’ll enjoy the extra venom it earns him from Team Mitt, but I think he’s dead wrong. Where’s the line? If the governor gets to pick and choose which rulings to enforce, we’re forever on the brink of a constitutional crisis. In fact, if Eisenhower had followed this advice, schools wouldn’t have been desegregated after Brown. What he’s suggesting, actually, in the name of empowering the people is making the judiciary nothing more than an arm of the executive. If that’s the government you want, okay, but in that case you might as well go the whole nine yards and abolish judicial review by constitutional amendment. Short of that, you’re not without options. The governor can campaign for an amendment to overturn an unpopular decision or, in states where judges are elected, to get them tossed out and replaced with ones who’ll vote the way the majority wants. Exit question: The Huck approach or the Romney approach? Click the image to watch.

Update: Good question: “Note that Huckabee’s excuse for soliciting additional taxes — any additional tax schemes; they were all ‘all right by me,’ as he said — was that he was compelled by a state court decision to do so. (Actually, he wasn’t quite, but let’s pretend he was.) How come you didn’t just defy the courts yourself, Huck?”

Careful your ignorance is showing. Every time you call Christian conservatives, socialists, it shows you pay zero attention.

SaintOlaf on August 26, 2008 at 8:03 PM

Your man Huck isn’t a conservative. And how you can ignore the dude’s record and tell me I’m not paying attention boggles the mind.

There are quite a few Christian conservatives. I am one. Small government, low taxes, enforce the laws, etc. I know the party line quite well, tyvm. That’s why I know when someone’s politics diverge from it … like Mike Huckabee.

S’okay, St. Loaf. We mormon-muslims don’t get excited too easily. Hey, going back a bit, where you asked:

Is that what you believe? And please do explain. In depth.

Intermingling the government and the church the way you and Huckabee propose WILL harm the church

You mean a constitutional amendment banning abortion?

Or a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage?

Or that he wants our schools to have options and NOT be a state funded religion(secular humanism/evolutionism).

Yeah that will DESTROY Christianity…

Maybe you were not aware of the fact that this has been part of the republican party platform since 1980.

The only difference is Huck actually wants to accomplish this.

I don’t think so. Anyone trying to make sense of that Mormon Maze is confused by definition.

For one, I don’t go around reveling in damning 90% of the human race to hell, unlike some people here.

I would like proof please. You can’t just say things like that without any proof to back it up. Show me when I’ve done this.

But I stand by my claim: The majority of Huck people argue mostly how evil Romney is, not why Huck would be good.

Do I say Romney is evil? No. I don’t. Stop lying please. I don’t attack him the same way you attack Huckabee. Yes, I think Romney’s dishonest. I didn’t like his gutter campaign against mcCain and Huckabee. The way he hammered Huck for weeks with misleading attack ads. It’s the same thing here on this forum. Huck haters viciously attack him and when I strike back criticizing Romney, the waterworks begin. My attacks on Romney were purely retaliatory in nature. I pray for him and his wife hoping one day they will find a Bible-believing church and get saved, Wasn’t his wife a Christian before they were married?

I’d like to amend this please. The Bible tells us,

One cannot even trust his own conscience. Truth is, we’re all wicked, vile, sinners. Only God’s Word gives fully reliable counsel. Thank you.

Hmm:

President Huckabee today used his powers as Commander-in-Chief to order the military to arrest Nancy Pelosi for violating government rules on face lifts.

The Supreme Court ruled the actions of President Huckabee violated posse commitatus.

Huckabee responded he doesn’t care.

What gutter attack on Huckabee and McCain?

Oh, come on, you remember.

Mitt spent a mere pittance of his eeeeevil filthy lucre earned by laying off people who look like Huckabee to make adds pointing out unfavorable aspects of Huckabee’s and McCain’s records.

You know, the worst sort of sewer-dwelling negative campaigning.

sulla on August 26, 2008 at 9:11 PM

Huckabee only stayed on his shoe-string, nobody-believed-in-him-enough-to-donate-real-money campaign (wow that’s a lot of dashes) because of all the free positive air time the MSM gave him in hopes of him taking out better candidates. Do the MSM usually give such positive press to strong Christian leaders? Did you not think something was up when they were covering up for his weak record instead of exposing it? I mean, they camped for two months outside Mitt Romney’s house, dug up everything they could find on Rudy and Fred, but didn’t report any of the mounds of dirt on Mike Huckabee?

right4life on August 26, 2008 at 9:12 PM

Didn’t Huckabee stay on budget. Kinda like a President should run a nations finances. Compare that with Romney who spent how much?

The point has nothing to do with budget. Mitt Romney dropped out of the race when it became apparent that he would not catch McCain for the nomination. At that point he started working faithfully and loyally for the McCain effort and stopped is campaign rhetoric.

After that, Huckabee spent another month in the campaign where he was spending other people’s money. His effort was even more unlikely than that of Romney to succeed since he was farther behind. Yet he spent the money and continued his effort to what end?

I think it became clear when Mike Huckabee continued to criticize4 and hammer away at Romney even after he had dropped out of the race. He is still doing it. He dropped out of the race himself just after he passed Romney in delegates for the convention.

It is clear that the real target of his continued candidacy had nothing to do with McCain who he rarely criticized. He was running for a VP spot at that point. So he was willing to continue spending other people’s money and slamming somebody who wasn’t even running just to gain position and power.

Sorry, those are not the acts of a truly Christian man. They are the acts of somebody that uses their religion as a means to an end but does not practice it in a meaningful way.

The MSM, which is the most powerful force in American politics decided to eliminate Huckabee from the race. And they had help from the GOP elite. Coulter should be embarrassed of herself. Same with Rush, Beck, and Hannity. I mean, when Laura Ingraham talks about “power to the people,” it must mean kind of people, the Republican elite, cuz she’s sure missed the boat on Huckabee. And for the record, these folks were once my favourites. I mean take Laura for instance, that’s one attractive girl, but y’know, how can I trust them now? I can’t. Not aftter what they did. PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on August 26, 2008 at 9:29 PM

Frankly the man scares me. I have the distinct impression from him that he will, and already has, compromised his faith in an effort to win power. Frankly, Mitt Romney has behaved in a more Christian manner than Mike Huckabee has and that is a large reason why I support him over Huckabee. I am a man that looks at actions not words.

Hawthorne on August 26, 2008 at 7:43 PM

Either you are deluded or a liar. I can’t think of a nice way to say it. That is such a gross distortion of his run for the Presidency. People attacked Huckabee for his faith and ask him all sorts of questions about it including attacking the Baptist view on marriage and distorting their view on it. But the second Huckabee asks even the most timid of questions about Romney’s Mormon faith, he is pilloried as a bigot. Truth is, it wouldn’t matter who was running, if he was a genuine Christian unashamed of his faith, you’d be saying the same derogatory things him as you are Huckabee.

apacalyps on August 26, 2008 at 9:30 PM

ok, but we’d better keep it interesting. He closes down “tiresome” threads.

Strikes me that Huck’s acting like a spurned suitor.

The “rabbit stew” didn’t help matters much.

sulla on August 26, 2008 at 10:29 PM

Here’s some interesting:

Governor Mike Huckabee, errrr Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer is pumping up the crowd before the Hilldebeast rolls out in her electric pantsuit.

Cold Steel on August 26, 2008 at 10:30 PM

Isn’t it true that Mormons believe Brian Schweitzer and Mike Huckabee are brothers?

thecountofincognito on August 26, 2008 at 10:31 PM

Identical twins. I can’t tell the two populist governors apart. It must be my seer stone glasses, but Schweitzer’s cadence and aw shucks delivery are a dead ringer for the squirrel popper.

Cold Steel on August 26, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Wow this guy is a goober and a half…(Schweitzer I mean)

thecountofincognito on August 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Chubby even laughs at his own jokes like Huck. When Huck said something he thought was a zinger, he always stopped to wait for the non-applause to die down. Schweitzer dislocated his arm in self-congratulation after the McCain’s homes joke. Petrodictator is truly original too.

Cold Steel on August 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Uh oh…Chelsea used her mother’s middle name when addressing her. Racist undertones??

thecountofincognito on August 26, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Huckabee is the most hypocritical and corrupt person we had running in this cycle. Even Ron Paul, crazy as he is, is more trustworthy. For most people on this site and my guess is, most Republicans, Huckabee represents the worst form of used car salesman/ tv evangelical you just know is preaching against immorality right before his appointment at the local hooker bar. Is Huck immoral? No idea, but his vibes scream that he’s selling us something. Vanceone on August 26, 2008 at 11:04 AM

Vanceone – I couldn’t agree more with your take on Huckabee! The part about the “local hooker bar” might not be far off! Huck and his band play music about these things (such as Honky Tonk Woman by the Rolling Stones, about getting drunk and having sex with a hooker and then a divorcee)! If Huck has no problem as a minister singing the words….maybe he’s got no problem doing the deed?

All I know is that he makes my skin crawl!

Hot tangerine electric pantsuit! LOL! How does Hillary come up with these fashion statements?! SCARY! This alone should disqualify her from ever becoming the prez!

Shelby on August 26, 2008 at 11:18 PM

I lost my post, so I’ll try again.
OK brethren this is my attempt to keep it going, even though some of you in the East must go to bed early.
Hi apocalys – see your busy again. Hope your having fun.
You guys have got to stop calling everyone who posts and doesn’t like huck – anti Christians. I know you love to call Mormons anti’s and we can take it, but nothing gives you the right to call everyone else that. Sure there might be some Jewish people and they are not, but God loved them and they are his chosen people. So, I’m not the one who will criticize them.
So, in your prayers tonight, please “ask with real intent” if you should be judging and criticizing and condemning everyone!
Have a good night all and thanks for all of you who stand up for fairness and truth.

Bambi on August 26, 2008 at 11:21 PM

P.S. – didn’t Romney look handsome, intelligent and completely comfortable on Hannity and combs tonight? It’s not hard to tell why huck hates him.

Bambi on August 26, 2008 at 11:55 PM

Hi Bambi, What’d I miss? ;)

SkinnerVic on August 27, 2008 at 12:12 AM

I had a hard time hearing everything cause I was on the phone and trying to listen to both conversations. He did not back down to combs (sp?) when he went after him about his adds against McCain, during the primaries. He stood toe to toe and told him he never said that McCain wasn’t ready to be president. He talked a little bit about his differences, but let it go at that. He is sooooooooo good looking, so intelligent, and gracious.
Is that enough for the huck supporters?

Bambi on August 27, 2008 at 12:26 AM

I doubt it. “Flippy McCultenstein” will never be okay in their book.
