Biden on personal wealth: “I don’t have Barack Obama money”
posted at 9:12 pm on August 25, 2008 by Allahpundit
Via Ambinder, comedy gold from last year’s YouTube debate coming soon to an RNC ad near you. As you’ll see, this was Biden’s response to yet another attempt by The One to demagogue a Republican for his fortune. Speaking of which, what are the odds that a nutroots idea to prank McCain at the convention — ostensibly for owning so many homes — by rattling keys would be circulating just a few days after Democratic Underground reminded the left that McCain has PTSD reactions from Vietnam triggered by … rattling keys? The threads touting the idea are still coming even today, although basic human decency the fear of bad press seems to be changing hearts and minds.

I think they pushed those hair plugs a little too far into his skull.

Oh man, did Biden just inconspicuously defend Romney from Obama’s attack?!
This is gold, especially for a McCain/Romney ticket.

You can always count on Senator Kinnock for a good laugh.

Did you get the video of the huge king cab pickup OBiden drives? I bet it gets 8 mpg downhill.

Man, Biden’s like the Transvaal in the early days: you don’t even have to dig to bring the gold to the surface, the ground around him’s covered with it.

Mrs Obama makes or made $400,000 per year. Barack can afford to work for nothing.

Chakra Hammer on August 25, 2008 at 9:22 PM
Totally O/T:
I hate his politics, but doesn’t Dennis Kucinich seem like the nicest guy in the world? I always have this image of him and his ridiculously tall hot wife running around giving lollipops to babies in the park.
malan89 on August 25, 2008 at 9:22 PM
I kinda like it. You get to see a lot of reactions to whatever was said.
malan89 on August 25, 2008 at 9:23 PM
$70 – $150k networth at age 65 is poor financial planning. It’s sad that a low networth becomes a badge of pride. No, you did something wrong given the salary for a Senator is $169,300.
As an aside, the hair plug jokes are such cheap shots and are quickly becoming repetitive.
JPK on August 25, 2008 at 9:23 PM
These Senators sometimes go to Washington without very much money and almost always leave multi-millionaires. They do insider trading like Pelosi or get kick backs or “gifts” like Obama’s property.
Mitt Romney earned his money and any stinking Senator who thinks there is a problem with that should explain the exponential growth of their own wealth to the American Taxpayers.
Elizabetty on August 25, 2008 at 9:23 PM
Biden is 99th out of 100 for wealth in the Senate. His income is his Senate salary and the adjunct pay he receives for teaching a Saturday course for a law school. Obviously, he’s not motivated enough to make more money. That’s why they promote the concept of a “living” wage which is ridiculous. (There’s a reason you don’t make a living running the fryer at Mickey D’s)

Senator Hair Plug is going to be the gift that just keeps on giving!

But to be fair, a lot of that money is paid to Michelle just so her employer (Univ of Chicago Hospital) can get earmarks from Barry.

Priceless, and Biden has the same politics
and opinions as Hopey/Changey,even tho,they
appear at opposite ends!
Biden, mean’t exactly what he said of Obama,
this Liberal vice president pick,is a sham,
like a foreign women faking love for an
American only to get illegal citizenship!!!!

mad saint jack on August 25, 2008 at 9:26 PM
And so you can see the types of ads they would run against Mitt Romney. It would be class warfare demagoguery every 10 minutes from now until November. That’s how they will appeal to their base.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 25, 2008 at 9:26 PM
Hmmmm…. Barry taking a spin as POTUS for minimum wage. Naw… resume is too thin to pull in those kind of bucks. Maybe if he also takes a shift on the fryalator in the Whitehouse kitchen we can talk. And Joe Hairplugs can work the drive thru by the rose garden. Now thats change I can believe in! /sarc

No. Really. To me, he seems like a vicious glazey-eyed sociopath, or an evil dwarf from an ’80s B-movie, though less threatening because small. I suspect that in real life he’s a bit nicer than that, at least in small doses, but, if I ever saw him and Mrs Kucinich distributing lollipops in the park, I’d be tempted to alert the local emergency room regardng a possible influx of poisoning victims.
CK MacLeod on August 25, 2008 at 9:27 PM
And don’t forget about the money from the contracts with the Medical Center that went to Blackwell. And Blackwell that paid for Obama’s services (also donated to the campaigns as well).

While I fully support Congress working for minimum wage, I am endlessly amused by the “I am poorer that that guy” debate amongst Democrats.
Yeah, I want the homeless guy for President. He’ll know exactly what to do with the economy since he’s broke! Forget those rich people who actually manage their money well.
Maybe we should elect those people from Extreme Makeover that had their free house foreclosed on within 14 months.

Re: the DU keys “prank” (which I’m reluctant to dignify with a response)
Not only despicable, it’s a sign of complete desperation.
They’re screwed & they know it.
Obama routinely underperforms his polling. He’s gotta be down 3-5% at least, which should be scary indeed for the nutroots.

Biden is either a liar or a financial moron. How does someone work in the government for 35 years not have a net worth well over $150k? Are we supposed to comforted by the fact that he’s made over $125k FOR THE LAST 17 YEARS and has only been able to accumulate 1 year’s worth of savings? He’s been in the senate since 1973. His combined salary JUST FROM THAT – not speaking fees, not consulting fees, not his book – just Senate salary is around $3.75 million.
And he only has between $75k and $150K? That’s a horrible sign of his financial acumen and not something he should be playing up.
Jeff Akston on August 25, 2008 at 9:37 PM
Why is there a sense that we want our POTUS and VP to be people who are not smart enough to make a lot of money and or fiscally conservative enough to invest and save it?
I want the smartest people running the country and smart people know how to make money.
This idea of “AlsoRan/Failure ’08″ is just stupid and goes against the American Dream.
Elizabetty on August 25, 2008 at 9:37 PM
So, who paid for that “Biden Family Compound”? That driveway looked like it cost a hundred grand. Is his wife wealthy?
flyoverland on August 25, 2008 at 9:40 PM
I question the numbers. His compound has at least two houses, both in the 1.5 million dollar range. I think the number he is referring to is his legal savings.

I’m beginning to think that John McCain just very well may have been the perfect candidate for us to keep the White House this year. Any other Republican would have had the disenfranchised Clinton supporters running to vote for Obama, but Maverick’s independent streak actually makes him acceptable to a lot of those in the middle-of-the-road voters (and the Clinton supporters too).
If McCain can pick an up-and-coming member of the party that is an excellent speaker and is strong on the economy (Romney), then we can have the White House for a few more years after McCain retires.
I’ll drink to that!!
IrishMcPundit on August 25, 2008 at 9:46 PM

what cold wave rolled over me as “uncle teddy” was introduced at the convention tonight. the docu-mini opened with a shot of the lazy water lapped at the shore. the idea of the whole thing (docu-mini) was wound tight with tales of “uncle teddy” and how he always looks out for the little guy. i guess mary-jo wasn’t little enough to bother with.

Oh wonderful . . . the dolt hasn’t been able to accumulate any significant wealth throughout his time in the senate and now he wants to share his personal fiscal incompetence with the whole country. Why do these brain dead liberals think its great to be broke or destitute?
So, are his supporters saying something like . . . “Ok everybody, let’s all get together and elect this loser because he’s just as stupid as we are”. I know that’s absurd, but then again I’m not so sure it isn’t accurate.

Slow Joe has had no incentive to save, or worry about retirement.
Under the pre-1984 Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), If Joe were to retire at the end of this term, he would collect a pension over $148,000 per year for the rest of his life.
Hence why he could not give a crap about the social security system.

Obama supporters will vote for him because he’s not George Bush. McCain will win because he’s not Obama.

I like how a bunch of the dems lie and say they would work their jobs for minimum wage because they want to sound humble and they know they will never have to. Also, what good is a higher minimum wage when it will just cause the cost of living to go up anyways? Dodd says he would raise it to 10.00 and hour? So what. I live on my own and make about that much with overtime and I’m up to eyeballs in credit card debt just paying for food, gas, and other necessities. How about lowering taxes on the companies I buy my stuff from so I can afford more and concentrate more on my schooling than working so much overtime.
